As others have said. Definitely a regular Wii that's been modded and put in a new case. Probably because the doors had snapped off the original which is a common thing. You can pick up a complete one in the UK charity shops now for about £10. They only take a few minutes to mod. I used to have one that I done myself and used with an 80gb HDD.
Yeah, it's definitely somewhat "refurbished" by the seller. Points for the homebrew channel stuff and the emulators, I don't have first hand experience with those emus but I'm guessing they might be better than VC. And if you want, you could play Project M and CTGP-R. This is a keeper.
Those found in the US are getting rarer, and prices are past $100 for a complete system at this point.
10 pounds ? 🤔
@@TheRealMrPeach thats just you man. i have a local game store (not naming it or saying where bc its a local treat, if you know, you know) that for about 5 consecutive years now, he has had the same price for a wii. It’s an actual Wii. It’s not fake. They just replaced the outer shell of it (that’s why it came in that shell replacement box I’m guessing). But that’s a real Wii, just with some added features. You got a decent deal imo.

@I'm me sometimes do you have one yet?
As cool as it'd be if it was a 1:1 recreation of the Wii hardware in a cheap case, I think this is just straight up a regular modded Wii. I've modded all my Wiis and their software looks like this.
theres places in japan that sell used "broken" wiis for 1-2 USD. theres probably something similar in china. people are probably buying them, fixing, replacing the case if necessary, and reselling on wish.
It is a real Wii. They replaced the case with a cheap Chinese made aftermarket case to "refurbish" it. It says it's a case right on the box it was in.
My money says they did a disc drive replacement annd the shell swap replacement is just so it lookes new enough to justify the cost.
@@tboatrig and soft modded it
Most of the original Wii drives are still in good shape thanks to the wohle homebrew thing around it, so i dont even think that they swapped it, its just the case and the softmod and even that can be an Estate of the previous owner like me (its not my one, this is still on my tv next to my switch😅)
@@Eddy_E. many do swap the drives even if they’re perfectly fine for one reason: disc burning. The original white rvl-001 wiis had drives that, if you modded the wii, it would play dvd backups and dvd movies even. All other models, and even colors of the rvl-001, cannot.
@@Eddy_E. so it’s very likely that if they swapped the drive it’s from an original white unit.
I knew as soon as I saw it was 32gb with 10-20 games that it was a modded wii. The included games are very likely Wii and GameCube games and to play those you games you open usb loader, which it told you to do on the paper it came with at 4:32.

@@moonwalkerboy162 no copyright infringement with the Wii logo on the tv. What they are selling is a reshelled Wii with homebrew on it. You can even see the homebrew channel on the 2nd page of the Wii menu. This is 100% a regular Wii.

@@jrob0021 But it is the real thing just a replacement shell and soft-modded. Just like you can get a Nintendo GBA from China they are genuine GBA with a third party case and screen they take beatup working consoles and rehouse them in a new shell. They probably buy them in bulk cheap put a new case on it and sell at a profit
The little paper slip was more useful you may expect from like a Gamestop refurbished console, it tells you to open USB Loader to play the games on the SD card, the listing said it was an US console, but it was a bit misleading as the preview pic said it was only the base and console, at the end this is just a refurbished and softmoded genuine console but with a generic case, what surprises me is that it actually works.
"It's just like a Wii"
It is a Wii.
Definitely a "The cheese is under the sauce" moment.
Dood I keep finding Wii consoles at my local thrift shop for $20 Canadian which is like $15 USD. You actually paid some guy in China 650% more for a Wii than it would cost you to get a normal fully-functional western Wii.
"This is just like wii"... This literally IS a wii with replacement case, that's all..
That would explain the console coming in a box for a replacement case. They literally put the internals in a new case and put it in the box to ship it.
As you took it out of the box i could immediately tell 100% it's just a refurbrished and reshelled Wii shipped in the box the shell came in. Kinda weird to sell them like that though
I've done softmods on quite a few Wii consoles, and this is all pretty standard stuff. My suspicion is that it's real Wii guts, but most likely a replacement case for one that was either heavily damaged, or just too dirty to pass off for sale. I can speak from experience that the flaps to cover the gamecube ports tend to break quite easily, and replacing them can be a bit of a pain. Some people opt for full replacement shells.
"Pretty cheap plastic"
*looks at Switch Dock*
That case looks *almost real*, but like as an example, the buttons look a bit off and darker, but I just can't name what is off tho. in my opinion, that is a re-cased wii (edit: instead of unplugging the Wii to reset it, hold the power button for 5 - 15 seconds , that will fully power it off/reset)
Yep it's really close, but the case is definitely not legit. Probably a real Wii inside tho
Yes do that but pull out the internal battery at the same time
@Fur Q Wii Won't

You should have gone into the "USB Loader". That app allows you to play Wii games without the disc. That is probably where you will find the built-in games.
It has game is built in which is a good thing that means you can run some pirate games just like I do
Yes but you need to load them off of USB. So nothing will show up. There's no internal storage on the Wii, and there's no way to load games off SD. He would need to load some WBFS files on a USB drive or burn some DVD himself.
@@novafawks Last I recall they've developed ways to run games off the SD
It also allows you to play Triforce games, which is awesome since that's the only way to play the proper version of F-Zero AX apart from playing it im the arcades.
@@novafawks I'm pretty sure literally every single USB loader on the wii also supports loading the games off the SD card too. And judging by the "usb-loader" folder name you can see at 13:47, the one installed here is most likely USB Loader GX, which I know supports loading ISOs off the SD card.
Probably a pretty old wii too. It’s on firmware 4.1 which still supported exploits such as bannerbomb, and iirc version 4.3 (the latest firmware version) was pushed all the way back in 2010. So either they force installed a wad with system menu 4.1 for whatever reason, it’s really old, or the seller never updated it since before 2010
It's a real Wii, with an internal softmod (Probably LetterBOMB'd), the case was replaced using a Chinese Knockoff (They're usually pretty good, seems you got an unfortunately misprinted one), they buy these in bulk from Overflow stores or "Trashcan" stores (Broken consoles, sold for spares/repairs), you've actually gotten an alright deal asides from the missing extras/cables/wiimotes
It's literally just a soft modded wii with a replacement shell to make it look newer, it's not hard to tell that it's real.
Yea but why would someone sell a soft modded wii?
@@bechmk8442 why not

I was almost done with the video and I couldn’t help but notice that this man did NOT know that it’s an actual Wii.
Proof?
@@sticks_absolute_channel it is 100% a real wii, unless there's some insane trickery going on an it's a raspberry pi hooked up to all the wii's ports and they're using a modded version of dolphin which has somehow been altered to read actual wii hardware like the gamecube and memory card ports.
the amount of effort it would take for a wish seller to make a fake wii that looks exactly like a real wii is far too great when they could just get a real wii, refurb it, mod it, and sell it for 10x the amount they bought it for.
RVL-001 is the original console design. The next revision, Nintendo removed the Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots. If you have a bunch of Wii and Gamecube stuff, this version really is a great way to unify your gaming setup, though I'd probably put the stock BIOS back in place for that use case.
I'm betting what happened here is they took a beat up console, gave it a new shell, soft-modded it and sold it off as new with "built-in" games.
$99 for that, but not really a bad deal if you wanted a gen 1 Wii in mint condition! You can easily re-mod that devil for other kinds of functionality to simplify things if you wanted.
For example, I have an XBox that handles emulation stuff and the controllers are better-suited for the old games. So the Wii is modded to load its stuff from an external SSD, which makes it much faster to load games, and I no longer have to worry about the library getting scattered by the dog hitting the disc tower. Again. :D

@@Bigjar420 could have been a corrupt file, i'm not sure what that looks like on a wii though.
So China will commonly have this problem where they have leftover components at factories. My guess is a factory that manufactured the internals for Wiis had a bunch left over, wholesaled them to somebody as spare parts, then they bought 3rd party replacement cases and placed them inside of them. Jailbroke the firmware and pre-installed a bunch of homebrew channels. Then sold them on Wish at a profit.
I see this happen with leftover arcade PCBs on Alibaba all the time.

Wish sellers seem to make listings confusing on purpose so you order the wrong thing. You seem to have acknowledged that you ordered the "Bare metal" instead of "Package 1" version in some of the comments. You didn't check any of the USB loaders. Those would be my first suspect on what roms they'd load since they'd be the Wii games... You can configure the USB loaders to load off the SD card. Try those, and maybe homebrew channel to see if they actually loaded any games.
they dont do it on pourpose when its like this, most of thiese sellers are guys running shop out of there basement rather than large scale factories and google translating the description because actualy good human translation is expensive
there are scammers for sure, but a lot of the time its either guys buying stuff from recycling centers and repourposing it (honestly great, everyone wins reusing is better than recycling) or guys just making stuff from scratch
It's just a translation thing. Most of these guys have really big shops on taobao with a lot of options. They probably only moved the base package over to Wish to avoid confusion. The shop I got my Wii from had 10 packages with pages of photos and explanations. I'm sure translation would have been a nightmare.
With the amount of consoles that exist in this world, especially in japan, i wouldnt doubt theres pallets of old wii hardware just being refurbished in questionable means. Always love seeing some homebrew stuff, i would buy a wii like that

You can launch Wii "roms" using the launch backup. They are definitely using the Wii software with it soft modded to add the additional options to the dashboard.

Nintendo made millions of these console. Japan is exporting them as junk. Basicly cheaper than making fake console.
The Mii you have are probably from the last owner.
Might be a heavily modded wii
it’s not heavy modded, you can probably set up that’s currently on that wii in like 5 hours, it’s just homebrewing (which you can do in like less than 10 minutes) then installing a bunch of emulators and putting roms
Hello I’ve recently subscribed to the channel, I’m a gamer slash collecter myself. I watched the recent Xbox Series X video on the used one you bought and others like the recent Nintendo switch. My question to you is are you trying to educate the general public about buying questionable merchandise off eBay to let them know what you get and the experience.
The special stuff is emulators like retroarch Is a thing with alot of emulators
Retroarch rocks!
