I Bought 29 Nintendo Consoles from Goodwill...

- Ok so it's actually 30 consoles đ I didn't realize there was a white DS lite until part way through the video. 29 sounds more interesting... anyways, I bought 29/30 "broken" Nintendo consoles from Goodwill. And I actually got a pretty solid deal. It was a bit less than $300 for the whole lot, which comes out to ~$10 per console. I can easily make my money back if I get some of these consoles working. We've got a little bit of everything here... 5 Wiis, 6 GBA SPs, 6 DS Lites, 1 DSi, 1 GBC, 1 GBA, 1 2DS XL, 4 DMG Gameboys, 2 Super Nintendos, and 3 GameCubes. Check out the video to see exactly what I got!
Any consoles here that I get cleaned up and working will be for sale on my website: www.jrobgaming.com

I have a couple GBA SPs on my website: www.jrobgaming.com
Can u fix my dsi xl
Got the pink AGS-101 so Iâm definitely gonna see if I can get it reshelled or even modded
I think the messed up game boy sp just had some sticker debris on it
Can I please please get 1 gameboy
Aww so you have a fancy goodwill only game related thing im see in 4 years is a baseball game for ps2 ya the goodwill I go to sucks
To clarify, I got this from the online goodwill auction website. Itâs not in a box because I picked it up from the warehouse
Iâd be extremely surprised if you found anything good in a brick and mortar goodwill anymore. Anything that looks valuable - theyâll take it and list it on the auction website
@@jrob0021 Thats why I only go to charity shops that arent well known brands
So that's who I lost in that auction to lol...jk
yeah it sucks that they auction off all the good stuff it destroys the point of going to the brick and mortar stores
@@jrob0021 I have gotten a few consols at Goodwill brick and mortar stores in the last two years, and seen several I didn't get. I got a Wii for $12, an OG Xbox for $20, and a 360s for $15. Haven't seen a single handheld though in a long time though.
The DSI has Zelda Four Swords Anniversary edition in it. That alone is a sweet find since you could only get it for a very short period of time which is long past now.
I saw a couple other people say that as well, I had no idea đł
I have it on my softmodded DSi via the Internet Archive.
@@aetheralmeowstic2392 That's the only way to get it now if you don't find one on it already like he did.
Yeah when I got my 3DS nearly 10 years ago as a present it came with that too!
The only game I ever got off the eshop bc it was free and I didnt have anyway to add funds
Those SPs working alone made this a sweet deal.
For sure. Iâm amazed they all worked to some degree
The 3 101s are worth more than what he paid for the entire lot.
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo sorry whats 101's?????? Thanks..
@@antoneckhart4010 There are two different revisions of the Gameboy Advance, the regular AGS-001 model and the more rare AGS-101. The 101 was released around the same time as the first generation of the Nintendo DS and has the same (better/brighter) screen technology like the DS.
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo thanks for the reply! Ppl dont reply enough these days...I get it now. Thanks :)
If I had to take a guess on the blue SP and why it was so sticky, it looks like it had one of those overlay stickers on it. You've probably seen them before, cheap stickers people use to wrap consoles with so they look "cool" like I know a friend that has a Wii but he bought some like Bakugon sticker set for it that fits the top and sides of the console. I'm guessing it had that and someone took it off, you can kinda tell by the way there's a perfect square where there's no residue around the speaker.

@@NoScopingRedPikmin prob what yr thinking is the actual reason
That Dsi has The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition on it from the looks of things. Pretty rare to have official since it was only available as a download like 10 years ago for a limited time.
Thatâs a good catch. I didnât realize it was a limited time download
I had that game on my DSi but an ex-friend decided he was going to steal the console from me and I never got it back đ
I dropped him from my life immediately.

Nintendo consoles are so durable, it's incredible how the game boys and the SNES works fine after all the years of bad care
Those DMG gameboys are no wonder, they are bit over 30 years old at this point and electronics inside are pretty tough. But I bet in 30 years no one even cares about Switch, they all have ended up in e-waste at that point
@@StaticVapour590 why
I pulled my n64 out of the garage after like 10-15 years from the bottom of a damp box. Missing everything but the console. Dusted it off, hooked it up and now it gets played regularly no problems
I know, when I was younger in japan I had a ds lite and now after all these years it still works:O
@@wxress you must've taken really good care of it. but, within 6 months of purchase the joy-cons on my switch started having problems, as pretty much any switch did
I never babied my consoles but I always did take very good care of them. I never understood how people get their stuff so grimy.
I recently bought a new Nintendo 3ds xL and itâs pre owned but I plan to keep it in shiny condition by cleaning it every other day of the week.
I think since some of us were once kids when kids had those consoles they didnât really understood care for them very well. Could explain why itâs grimy either that or being stored away for so long and dirt/dust got gathered on them? đ
I assume they were likely used by young kids. Nintendo consoles are aimed at families so there are often lots of very young kids using them. I had a DS when I was like 5 years old and I was the type of kid who was very careful so mine was well taken care of but most little kids donât really understand being careful with that sort of thing. I really want to go find my old DS now. I donât know where it is but itâs probably somewhere in the attic. I would be surprised if there was any scratches or anything on it, I kept that thing in a case 24/7.
@@rachelcookie321 wow, the only scratches I have on my dsi is just bumps and the bottom screen stylus marks. Itâs right button doesnât work well sadly.
I used to have a guitar hero edition of the ds lite however we put it in the shed and got damped.
I too was a careful kid but I remember dropping my old pink ds haha. Kids can be clumsy at times. đđ
I'm sure you're aware, or others have commented, but you can easily adjust/turn up the laser power on the Gamecubes slightly using a screw on the inside of the console, and that usually solves the disc reading issue! I had my childhood Gamecube which I thought to be broken for like 8 years, until one day I did just this, and it worked right after! I'm glad I held onto it, haha!

for the disc read errors you can try to adjust the resistance being sent to the Lazer. there is a small screw on the disc board that can be adjusted very minimally. using an Ohm meter. the result should be around 200to230 ohms I believe. check CZcams for others that have fixed this issue.
Nice Iâll try that. Iâve done that on 360s before
Some tips for the GameBoys (Might help, might not)
For any if the GB, GBC or GBAs that won't turn on, cleaning the power switch is really all it takes. I reccomend replacing the volume and contrast wheels in the GBs as in my DMG the contrast wheel tends to flicker the contrast depending on where it is. Not a huge problem if you don't but it can help sometimes.
If you buy a shell repacement for the GBC you're gonna' want to make sure you can get a D-Pad riser, as most aftermarket D-Pads are typically the wrong height (I learned that the hard way lol). I believe RetroModding has good replacement parts.
Sick! Im not too experienced with repairs but I do know that for GameCubes the Laser becomes weak after a while. But you can just tighten it sometimes and it works perfectly. Good luck with any and all the repairs. Im hoping to get into console repair this summer! Probably gonna start out on a GBA original or a GBC
Nice! Handhelds are definitely a good place to start, especially the older ones. I started on Xbox 360s about a decade ago and that was a mistake lol
@@jrob0021 Yeah, I say older as they tend to be less complicated with less parts lol. You jumped into the deep end before you could swim huh?

The fact that that dsi works and has Flipnote on it (extremely rare app on it) thats a great steal! Fantastic pickup on everything all in all!
I got my dsi used from a local game store and it had flipnote
I was able to get sudomemo to work
A dmg gameboy not powering on could be as easy as cleaning a dirty power switch/replacing the power switch/or cleaning corroded battery terminals

My favorite part was the surprise that you scored a couple GBA SP 101s. I have the 001 and didn't realize how much better the brightness is on the 101. CONGRATS! đ„đ„đ„
Agreed, the difference is stark when you see them side by side
Your 001 does have a couple advantages though: Pixel response time is much better than on a 101, so games can get faster before you get lost in the motion blur. And, it's more of a question of preference, but the 001 has the same somewhat washed out colors of the original GBA, and that's what the games' colors were designed to be shown on, so some games look oversaturated on a 101 -- but of course that might be a plus depending what you like.
@@joemck85 Thanks and the battery life is really good on my 001.
@@Evercade_Effect That too. The 101 doesn't use as much more battery as you would expect, but the 001 does come with the option to turn the light off entirely and play by sunlight to save battery.

That person had a couple 'sticker skins' on that thing. That gunk is residue from them removing the stickers, but not fully cleaning off the adhesive. They probably just chucked it in a bin with the other 'cleaned' units after removing them, leading to the adhesive sucking up and grabbing a bunch of dust and stuff as it was left there.
I got an old school Gameboy when I was 6 in 1999, and it came with Tetris. Along with my Sega Genesis, '99 was a good year for me.
those 3 sp 101s can make back nearly all of your money, nice!
GBC & GBA often have that problem with their power switches. It either doesn't work at all, only when in the right position, or makes the power light go red or cut out randomly. The problem is corrosion in the power switch, probably from being carried in a pocket and getting sweat in there over time. The fix is to take it apart, put a couple drops of isopropyl rubbing alcohol inside the metal-and-plastic slide switch mechanism for the power switch, and then push the slider part back and forth a zillion times. The same applies to crackly / cranky volume dials and sliders. The same MAY apply to the DMGs, but in my experience those don't get cranky nearly as often as the newer models that used smaller switches.
AGS-001 vs 101 is very easy to tell without turning them on or looking at the sticker: 001 screen looks light like a GBC or GBA screen when off. 101 screen looks black like a modern LCD when off.
Also the screens from some of the poor-condition DS Lites could probably go into the better condition ones with bad screens.
The "lots of gunk" SP may prove to be in the best condition -- SP shells ALWAYS get TONS of scratches on the lid. The gunk means there was probably a skinb covering it for years. At least if someone put it there to decorate and not to cover scrapes, that skin will have protected it! I'd take it all the way apart and use a gentle gunk remover like Goo-Gone on the shell.
DMG situation seems simple enough: Assuming the 2 that don't worn aren't fixed with a little cleaning, pull the screen lenses off them and stick them on the 2 that work but don't have a screen lens.
Iâve always been in love with the GameCube.
I saw this on my reommends so I just dropped-by to say : Good job đŻđ

@@jrob0021 So true! You got really lucky there! Also, for those DS Lite systems, I believe there's a Nerf case that you can get that just goes around the system, and helps with the hinges bit. They're fairly expensive, but it's up to you!

The DS is a great product. I just got an old one ever since then I havenât really messed around with my other electronics whole lot it has been really fun
A lot of times with GameCube disk read errors, the laser potentiometer needs to be adjusted. Its a little screw on a circuit board on the disk drive. U use a multimeter to measure the resistance as you turn until it gets to where its supposed to be. And im talking TINYY adjustments.
Put the working dmgs in the good shells and if you get the other ones working you could mod them, if you have lines on the screen try the screens on the broken ones too.
It's incredible you found that stuff! The goodwill by me is awful...the workers filter out anything good and set out the lesser grade stuff and usually broken electronics. A bit 3rd world unfortunately. Great flip'n pickups!
That sticky gba sp looked it had a skin/stickers on it and was removed and that is the glue
That gunked up blue sp has an obvious glue residue from stickers that were peeled off. Quite obvious when you look around the speaker area with no residue with straight lines around it.
A suggestion: could you do a video showing various consoles and how they compare to each other in terms of graphics power? Id love to see an xbox 360 vs a PS3 to see whos more poweful.
The blue SPs are a rare US exclusive release and are highly collectible here in the UK in fact avid collector's are paying ÂŁ100 minimum just to own them. I was unaware that you could play Gameboy games on the DS until i watched your video thank you for that bit of information.
All the Gameboy SPs can be sold for like $100 is refurbished and can even be sold for more if you do a IPS, and Aluminum shell mod
15:11 maybe all the sticky gunk is from a rubber case, because ive seen old rubber turn into sticky goop after a loooong time, so maybe it came into goodwill with one of them melting rubber cases, then goodwill took it off, tested it and marked it as broken because the screen was unplugged and they didn't know.
There is a little dial on the GameCube motherboard that lets you power up the lasers to read easier. After years they weaken so that may be all they need.
On the Gamecubes if the cd drives are bad, mod them with the GC Loader SD replacement.
That blue gba sp with the sticky residue looks like the past owner might have customised it with a sticker to change the design and then peeled it off to donate it, deffo looks like the kind of residue you get from that stuff especially with the way its shaped
Dude, what Goodwill do you have! Most tech thing I found at my Goodwill was a VCR from the 90's... Wish mine had old Nintendo consoles, working or not!
you know I rebuild games like this on the side as a hobby and am always looking for lots like this. I spend hours searching auction sites every day and hardly ever see anything like this anywhere. best lot I have seen was 14 super famicom consoles for $150 and half of them were beyond repair
Right, this is hard to find!
SPs can get you a huge turnaround if you can get them for the rite prices mostly if you put different cases also gameboy colors giving them a back screen and a rechargeable battery people look for those
The SP's, and Pokemon Sapphire bring me back to my childhood.
One thing I would mention is that disk drives on Wiis are hard to fix, my Wii disk drive broke about 4 years ago, I tried cleaning the laser and replacing the laser afterward, I think if it were to be fixed, I would need to replace the entire Disk drive Along with the motherboard and all the stuff on that

Nice Haul!
I bought a fat OLED PSVita from my goodwill locally with the original box, and two games for 29.99. Took it home and let it charge for an hour or so, and it came on just fine with no issues. Goodwill can be a gold mine sometimes.
Those Wii consoles that don't read disks would make excellent softmod machines, since you can just play games off a hard drive attached to the USB ports instead.
Great video keep the good work
that blue sp had a decal covering the whole thing and thats the leftover glue
That blue SP looks like it had some sort skin on it that left behind a ton of residue.
good score man, though it does sound like you are going to have fun with shell replacements. you probably will have better luck than I did with the ds lites, I tried replacing the shell on one I had and basically destroyed the thing as murphy's law took effect. luckily I was given another eventually that was in better shape. but yeah I am just going to stick to the older gameboys for now when it comes to redoing cases.
Try to swap a "Wii" shell... Good luck with that đ first time it took me like 5 hours... So many different and hidden screws..
Now I can do it in 30minutes
@@sander230e yeah, those are fun.. not
i swear that blue one has to be my old one. when i was a kid i dropped it open and that exact part of the hinge popped off and the screen was loose like that.
one of the gameboys had vertical lines missing on the screen to the left and right, you can fix that by using a soldering iron on a black piece under the screen, just look it up its not a very hard fix
Can you sand those cases down and then polish them to get rid of the scratches or is that too much for the plastic?
Since the Gamecubes have broken disc drives what you could do (to fix one of them) is homebrew a wii to rip one of your actual physical copies to a sd card then they have this board that you could sodder into the gamecube to read sd cards but I donât remember the name of it... Iâve seen a yt video about a month ago
That's a very good idea.

So how did you get this from goodwill? I didn't know the sold bundle deals like this
There is mods where people actually removeâ the top portion of the ds, and you are left with a GBA player, I think they even sell shellâ that delete the whole top portion

He replaced the batteries of course, but it still wonât power on. He hasnât opened it, but my guess is that the switch contact is just dirty. Or could it be something else?
Then for the Color, itâs in near perfect condition, but for some reason, the start and select buttons just straight up wonât work. We figured it might be the same issue of dirty contacts, but I remembered hearing that the actual buttons make contact with pins or something, so maybe those are damaged? Thoughts?
Finally, this is one is actually about my SP. I think maybe a year or so ago, maybe more, a single line of red pixels appeared on the far left side of the screen. I only use it for classic and Color games, so it doesnât run through the window the games play in, but it still bugs me because Iâll forget itâs there after a while and then I catch a glimpse of it and it gets annoying. I canât think of why it mightâve shown up other than maybe once when I dropped it. Other than some scuffing on the left shoulder button, I couldnât and still canât see any damage on or around the system and the screen is immaculate, so I donât know what happened.
If you read all of this, then thank you. And again, sorry for how long this comment is.
I've been thinking about going to goodwill to find on consoles and sell them
If a really good console appears and works just fine should I keep it?
Even if the white dsi has a bad battery you could easily repair it with a small screwdriver and a spare battery
the sticky sp is from a decal that was once on it, im guessing goodwill took it off
the pics on the dsi was from the movie bring it on fight to the finish so it wasnt anything personal
i remember back in 2009 or so around that time, i was so desperate for any entertainment, i only played Nintendo Gameboy for a long time. i was always bored in my room and had nothing to do and my parents were pretty poor and it was the only entertainment i had and one of the best. couple of years later i remember that i was able to afford my own consoles and a powerful PC. i look back at it fondly now
