Excellent video for GSXR and RF owners, thank you. Goes to show that "I've cleaned the carbs" isn't always the answer, you have to get way in there as these parts are often missed during a carb service.

No, plastic slides or housings are not the problem at all… the reason for the wear is a dirty or modified air filter letting dust through… the dust between the slide and housing is what causes the wear… if you replaced your air filter at the specified intervals, this wear would not happen…! However, there are other issues with these carburettors, design issues in my view… if you place the long ‘jet needle’ down the centre of the slide, you will see that it hangs at an angle, and not straight down… inside and at the bottom of the slide there is a small shelf built into the slide causing the the white plastic washer on the needle not to sit flat… what I generally do is grind a flat on the white plastic washer allowing it to sit flat… but because the needle hangs at an angle, it wears the top of the ‘needle jet’, otherwise known as the emulsion tube… if you look carefully at the hole at the top of this emulsion tube, you will notice that it is no longer perfectly round, but oval… over time the bike is starting to run richer and richer… this is the reason… by the way, the needle also wears… so you need to replace both the needle jet and the jet needle… use standard genuine Suzuki air cleaners… the other problem with the air cleaners themselves, is you can’t see when they’re dirty… the recommended interval is replacement every 6,000kms…

You are right, I had a gsxr 1100 mod 92, for more than 20 years, I never needed a mechanic, I repaired it, on an average of every year and a half I changed the emulsion tubes, the neddles did not, they were titanium, but the problem more common is that the emulsion tubes become oval and fails at low rpm, I changed to a dyno yet stage 3 and a timming advance +2 but never change the plastic parts or sliders, the emulsion tubes become oval due to the vibration of The neddles inside the emusion tubes, there are other problems in the floats, they get stuck down when having wear on their sides.
