- Today the tavern talk announced the INSANE buffs that Roland & Frederica are receiving in their global release this Wednesday! I cover what the changes are, how they effect the characters, and whether or not you should pull for them accounting for all of this! They also announced a new shop where we can buy copies of the CotC 8 along with the long overdue release of Promme as the game's first paid only character.

What was your reaction to the buffs and to the new encounters shop?

i was already going to pull because i like the game and their art but man i did not think they were gunna go crazy with the buffs
Truthfully for the encounter shop - i don't really have a problem with it. Like I get the fear of people thinking they will stick other prime people in there but i think that's sort of the point. People would generally do whatever to get broken units so why would they do that, where as for this Promme unit, it seems that so many people were like whatever it is a skip - this is an answer to that solution. most people would not want him - and it fills up the pool, so now for 3 dollars.you can get him [and of course it tempts the no spender/low spender to maybe consider and open up the wallet. which is the goal for these games]
I think they key thing here needs to be affordable/accessible. If they get scuzzy about it then sure, but as for now i think it is a good idea
Time to use that summoning circle in the form of a plastic card 😅
I dunno if I want to A3/A4 Eltrix now with Fred’s passive..
I love that I don't have to choose between a game that I love (Triangle Strategy) and chasing the meta. Sounds like I can do both, thanks to these buffs. I just hope I still have enough rubies afterwards for the back-to-back good units that are coming in the following months.
Guaranteeing a unit on ANY gatcha game is rare and very appreciated. It's the only time people should spend on a game, none of this random gambling BS. Thank you devs!
I don’t know how many do this but Epic Seven has a permanent banner (obviously, all gachas do), but in addition to that the rotating banners (AND limited units) guarantee that the 5* featured character is the 5* you get. The only time you get other 5*s are if the banner features multiple at once (they’ve only done trios, and the players themselves pick who’s featured on those special banners) or moonlight and mystic summons (special alt characters).
I’m actually pretty curious on if there are other gachas that do this? Sorry if this comment just sounds like free advertising for another gacha, lol.

I have a special place in my heart for Triangle Strategy. It brought me inyo the world of HD2D games. My next game after was OT1, and right after OT2. Ill probably open my wallet for this even though I generally dont spend on gacha games 😂

Fredrica went from Molu 1.25 to full front Eliza ++ backpack.
Wow very nice Frederica buffs, definitely gonna pull for all the collab units now as well. She looks great with units like primrose, tithi, and other scholars. Great addition.
No doubt in my mind SE watched that podcast and admired your devotion to the wifu, so they buffed her to high heaven.
I've been waiting for the TS collab since global launched so I'm 100% pulling, good luck to everyone else who is!

I was going to skip TS but these buffs are WAY more significant than expected, plus they seem fun to use. I'll prioritize Roland through step up and buy U10, if I get lucky I'll give Frederica a shot.
Definitely gonna a4 Promme for that 20 sp regen, and he'll enable my Cyrus a bit more anyway since I don't have Molu so win-win for me.
I simped for Fredreka. Didn't know it was a good move. I just roll on cute units.

Really depends on if you value your spear comps more or if you need more elemental support in the near term.
In the long run, my personal opinion veers slightly towards Roland. I'm sure Dream would disagree (Freddy is my waifu too 😭)
Overall Frederica has more potential teams so if you only can aim for one, she's the one. Roland is just a great pick IF you already have/plan to pull the other spears to make a strong team. I have a1 Krauser, a1 Wludia, and I plan to pull for Leon, so Roland is an easy pick up to add to that roster.

Hei dreamt, i saw your video discussiom about future tierlist. And roland was in "big maybe tier" but with this buff, u reckin roland goes to tier 1 or 2? Federica too?
Both solid to high tier 2 for me.

Are 10 SP regen accessories the max you get through free content? If so, the 20 SP regen A4 accessory seems pretty tempting.
That's correct, so Promme a4 would be great on like a fire Therion or Ex Fiore.
Really unsure of how to proceed here… I was saving for those JP S+ tier units (Bargello, Tatloch, etc.) but now I don’t know how these new buffed units stack up. How do you think Frederica would compare vs. those top tier units?
I think both of them solidly land in the upper side of tier 2 units, grape or another jp player might have more perspective on how much Frederica can really enable.
So bargello and that gang are still higher tier, its just that these buffs really make a case for not skipping esp for spenders.

I have a question, I played some time ago but stoped because did not wanted to continue spending money. I want to play an mobile rpg and octo is the only I like. Is octo pay to win from your exp or can I play and complete events without having to spend or maybe spend a little
You can definitely complete all the story and normal side content like arena, towers, and lv100 npcs all f2p. It just requires better and more strict ruby planning. cotc_grind & momen02 are youtubers with f2p accounts that have cleared/speedcleared most content. But it sounds like your problem is more with over spending, the incentive to buy the good packs rolls around once every 2-3months, but it's never to levels of fomo for me. Def worth trying to be a low spender and enjoy if you think you can, but not if you think the fomo will empty your wallet.

Oh no, now my Eltrix savings are in danger 😂... but honestly real nice that they buffed collab chars. Collabs are probably one of the best times for gacha games to make money, and having them be 'easy-skip' characters just didnt make any sense
I was relying on these being easy skip banners… I love TS and would love to pull but I barely have enough rubies to pity rinyuu and she’s still the bigger priority…
I'm in the same boat. I'm saving for Rinyuu and Bargello. I might do one 10-pull.
are we sure that "elemental damage up" counts for dark/light/wind? Maybe it is only fire/ice/lightning?
It should almost certainly count for those as well.
It vaguely says “mag up” so if it’s being vague and not *specifically* saying “raises fire damage” etc. then it means *all* magic types.
“Elemental damage up” goes by the same logic, it includes “fire damage up” etc.
If there's one question about Frederica I'd have to ask... It's how many important battles have enemies who can be inflicted with burning? Apparently there's at least a few, as you said. She seems very dependent on being able to burn a boss to justify a spot in a party, unless the boss is naturally weak to fire and you can run a fire heavy team against it.
I largely try to keep myself unspoiled on story and big fights, so I can't really say by number, only that there are at least some.
The vast majority of non-arena battles aren't immune to combustion. This includes most npc's (like the ones in master tower), Titan Tower (yet unreleased), and memoir refights of story boss battles. Among the fights that have bosses immune to combustion, if any adds exist they tend to also not be immune to status in general even when the boss themselves are.
Love the guarantee on the collab banner. I’ve never been someone to shell out $120 worth of paid rubies on one banner personally but I think the folks who do that definitely deserve at least a guarantee for it lol.
Definitely mixed on Promme. I’ll go ahead and spend $3 to get a singular copy of him but stop there. I get that it’s cheaper than theoretically getting him through gacha (at least… only at first as you’ll likely get genpool units anyway), and it’s actually good he won’t be polluting the general pool. Still… PAY ONLY units do seem a bit concerning.
Should I go for Frederica A2 or U10 if I have her at A1?
Her ult has a pretty nasty penalty, so using it twice in a fight isn't ideal, you'd want to use it on the final turn as a big nuke. A2 probably more useful, and if they rerun the banner in the future you are two away from a4.
Roland went from meh to Ashlyte for spear resistance down while also being great at dealing damage.

I would describe Roland as a “lightning merchant” rather than a “spear merchant” since that seems redundant in this game where merchants always have some kind of spear skill, lol.
Unless there’s a special case where a merchant has zero spear skills, anyway. At least they have basic attack?
Haha you are right, I guess what I was trying to say by "spear merchant" is "offensive merchant" since quite a few of them are based on utility and not dealing damage.
i wonder if roland better than leon?
For pure dmg roland win but for dmg + utility cover other weakness leon wins (specific roles) in overall both are same level.

I mean Roland's banner is a lot more value to pull on thats for sure, but ideally you would want both to make a solid spear team.

Don't believe so. Krauser, Leon, and Roland special buffs can't be extended by anything out in jp yet.
