#musictips #moogmatriarch #synthreview - Hudba
The reviews on my channel are doing quite well in comparison so thought I'd do another one on my Moog Matriarch!
Dude you're awesome. Thanks for explaining the patches. That's exactly what I needed. Keep making Matriarch videos. It's easy to follow. I'm learning so much from you.
Glad you enjoyed! Lots more synth and tutorial content coming :)
Yeah second this. I just got mine and this helped loads
Great video, great synth. Thanks Miles🙏🔥❤️
Thank you! Stay tuned I’m going to do a Matriarch 4 years later video soon :)
Finally!!! The video I've been waiting for. A person clearly explaining HOW to create patches on a Matriarch. This is really good content. I appreciate you. P.S. You can do synth reviews if you want??? But what you demonstrated in this video is HOW to use the Matriarch. Nobody does that. Everybody shows you WHAT you can do on a Matriarch. That's fine. But I want to know HOW you do it. Where do the cables go and why? What knobs do I need to turn? Thanks to you, I have a bit of an understanding.
Happy to hear you enjoyed and welcome to the channel! Lots more synth and Matriarch content. If you liked this be sure to watch my Intro to Sound Design feat. Moog Matriarch video, I explain step by step how to create some classic sounds on this beast!
I agree. Seeing the how and why is what sets you apart. Lots of reviews around, but I can tell that you know what to expect before patching. Seems many videos are more like watching someone else learn as they make the video lol. Fortunately, the color versions of the GM and MAT are inviting, and help mentally break up its components. I have the GM, and plan on getting this. I also have the "trilogy" to pair with these. Really phenomenal family of products. Thank you.
+1 on this comment. The HOW portion is what I've been dying for as a newer synth player. Great tutorial.
@@geronimogerardot Thank you! more matriarch content will be coming soon, too enamoured with my OB6 right now though.. LOL
Love this, thanks for the simple but cool patch explainations
My pleasure Josh thanks for watching man!
great to see some super useful, simple patches. thank you
My pleasure! Thanks for watching, lots of other sound design videos on my channel :)
You are an excellent teacher brotha!! Thank you for the lessons!!
Thank you for watching!
that was dope. hope to see more matriarch videos!
You definitely will. Thanks!
great video! thanks for the Ideas. Got the Matriarch last weekend and can't keep my hands off it.
Awesome! Happy you are digging it! I have a sound design video on the Matriarch as well if you want more!
I learn a lot things in this video than joining my own online college classes. Thank you so much sensei 😆
Love this, very useful!
thanks!
Great job friend you make it a simple beautiful art!! Keep making that cream!
Thanks for watching! Check out some of my newer synth videos, this one is ancient, haha
it took me a year to find your site, but it was worth it. Thank you very much for the great patches.
My pleasure and welcome! What other synths would you be interested in patches for?
@@MilesAwayOfficial My patchable Synths: Neutron, DFAM, Matriarch, MS 20, Delta CEP A.
@@stefan3112 awesome collection - I'm working on a DFAM video now! How do you like your MS20?
this is super helpful thanks!
my pleasure! more synth content coming, took some time off for the holidays :)
a wonderful BEAST ! :)
the best :)
That last one was dope
Check out the updated review of the Matriarch I posted a few weeks ago, my videos have gotten much better since this one!
3:38 Teenage Wasteland is a sound I must create. Matriarch looks like it can pull it off.
So good! nice
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos, keep up the great work. I trying to reproduce your patch at 10:15 and I know it looks simple but for some reason I can't get it to sound the same...is there a setting or something that I cant see missing? Any chance you could make a PDF of your patches available, thanks.
Hey thanks for the comment. I sold my Matriarch so unfortunately I can’t help too much further but chances are you probably have the attenuator level set wrong. It really only needs to be at 1-2 o clock to affect the delay time, otherwise it will sound messy! The attentuator level is hard to read in this video so hope that helps!
4:35 Triangle, square, sawtooth and pulse with pulse being a sine wave?
I was just wondering if this thing sounds as good as the Mini reissue and the answer is most definitely yes. The reissue has a ton of punch on the outputs and the mixer on this thing sounds like it can do it close.
100% this thing can get so close because of the Cp3 mixer! As soon as your oscs are after 12oclock you get into minimoog territory
I’m new to playing synth but not piano. I recently got a Dreadbox Typhon as my first synth and love it. But, my compositional style is piano based and must have a voice for every finger at all times. With a good technique and effects, I can make a monophonic synth sound polyphonic but am still not clear on the terms “oscillator” and “voice” and how an oscillator can have more than one voice? I saw your Nymphes vid and you mentioned one oscillator having six voices or two oscillators having three voices. The gist is I’ve fallen in love with the Moog Matriarch with four oscillators and know how to coax a lot of motion out of one oscillator but I’m still wanting a voice for each finger. Can I make up the other six voices I’m lacking on matriarch with midi and a second polyphonic synth? I’m buying the matriarch but need some guidance. :)
Oscillator = a sound source. A voice is usually an Oscillator making sound into a VCA + filter + envelope. How many voices you have is how many notes at once you can play. A voice can have multiple Oscillators , but doesn't have to. Some synths like Nymphes can split up how many voices they give you to play with to have a thicker sound with more oscillators per voice (ie. 3 voices and 2 osc per voice = 6) or more voices but a thinner sound with only one oscillator per voice (ie 6 voices and 1 osc per voice = 6)
Hope that helps
Definitely one of my must haves when I get started. The Matriarch is the closest thing to a Moog Modular while actually being a fifth of the price.
Agreed! It really is a special synth, and I truly believe will be looked back at as a classic, the same way the classic Moogs currently are.
Please make more videos showing unison mode, 2, 3, 4 oscillators at once slightly detuned !
Will definitely keep in mind for my next matriarch video!
How do we update the firmware with a mobile device? Is there an editor for the 48 functions buried in those lame keyboard shift routines ? My matriarch came out of the box unable to send midi out from the sequencer or arpeggios . We (Moog tech support)did the routine to fix that and it still doesn’t send out anything but key down . Suggestions? 😕Peace Christo
Ah man that's tough. Really not sure why! I think you need a computer to update firmware :/ did you solve it?
@@MilesAwayOfficial yep! And now I can update the firmware with my iPad Pro using the sysex app! Hurray! Peace Christo👽
any chance you could do a video on running your guitar/microphone through the matriarch?
Great idea! I have never tried it with a mic, but defs can do with the guitar.
holy shit its Luke from modern family! Good Tutorial sir!!
Hahaha, I can see the similarity a bit, thanks for watching.
lol he just like me, we are synth addicts. Just getting into semi modular and got a matriarch on the way
yep synth addicts unite! welcome to my channel, this is an old video, check out any of my recent synth videos!
@@MilesAwayOfficial lol I know. And I actually started following based off obx8 vids and was randomly watching matriarch videos when your’s came up
can i patch the glide knob to only one osc?
Not sure sorry! I no longer have this one
man... if this thing had an aggressive analog distortion somewhere in the signal chain i would buy it right now. and
if it could save patches it would be "my last synth"
Totally agree on the distortion even though the mixer can drive hard!! Patches are sick but then you’d miss the modular, no?
Thanks for the nice review. You really should set your camera to fixed focus instead of auto to avoid “focus sweeps” ;-)
Thanks for watching! It's been fixed since :)
I wish you were Brazilian come to Brazil man
One day I'd love to perform there!
I had a Martriarch for 21 days, unfortunately, had to return it due to major QC issues, build quality... But, they were the best 21 days of my virgin synth existence ❤️
Ah man! Sorry to hear that! Are you going to be able to get a new one or just going for something else?
Miles Away yes, i will get another Matriarch one day, that was a great video by the way, very helpful 👍
I can attest to QC issues. A few of my Matriarch buttons were recessed in what I have to say is excessive. I pulled apart a few items just to get to the board stand-offs that were in my opnion, too long. This prevented the light up buttons from sitting at the correct depth on the panel. In addition to this, my moog grandmother does not sit level at all, and wobbles at least 3/16"
I want this synth but it intimidates me. I’ve always been a preset guy and don’t really know how to sound design. It’s either this or a prophet 6.
Welcome! Good question, and good timing actually, I recently sold my Matriarch to get a Prophet 6 and kept my Moog Sub 37. You really can't go wrong with either this or a P6, and don't be scared! Both are super well thought out to learn sound design on. BUT, the Moog has some big limitations and I found for just making finished songs, nothing beats the Prophet 6 or OB6 for me. They are just a joy to learn sound design on but you also have presets too. If you like the Moog richness though, they won't sound like that!
Hope that helps and feel free to ask more questions! I have videos on all those synths. When you do buy something, please consider using my perfect circuit link, its no cost to you but it helps me keep the lights on :)

@D D Day esq thank you, yeah, I think I’m going to go for the matriarch. I’m just drawn to the sounds that this thing makes…still intimidated, but I’m looking forward to try and unlock some of its potential. I forgot to mention in my 1st post that I already own a Rev 2. So I kind of have that DSI sound…although the p6 sounds better to me. The moog however is just a completely different sound palette.
Wish me luck!
You need sound treatment in your podcast room to cut noisy reflections.
check out my recent videos, much better audio and new studio space :)

Ayy
I love the video but I'd turn off your auto focus
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for watching.
@@MilesAwayOfficial absolutely, keep making videos!
