It’s inspiring when tutorials are approached from a musician’s point of view versus ticking off boxes on a marketing checklist.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thank you!
Someone who's not afraid to say "this is so much fun" and "this makes me feel..." Isn't that what it's all about?

The Bob Ross of electronic music
100% accurate @38:39
I thought this within seconds of clicking on the video! Can't wait to enjoy the rest of it.
@@drewhenry784 hahahaha good one bruh!!!!!!!
Wrong. Bob Ross is the trucuckoo of painting.
XDDDD
You should make a patch book like the one that comes with the matriarch and put it on your online store!
I love how “stealing” is pretty much the official term for redirecting an output signal from a module.
It's always great to see Cuckoo with a smile on his face. Luckily, its not hard. My Matriarch makes me smile too. Great tutorial for a great instrument!
I actually really like 2 voice paraphonic; you can _almost_ get chords and have some nice oscillator layering.
Rarely do we hear “fun” in a tutorial as we do here, but when you said “ Now we’re learning something, right?” I fell off my chair. The mark of a great teacher is the combination of these two elements. Thank you for being such a gentle and patient soul. My Matriarch will now become a great partner.
That distorted filter sounds so good
This is my favorite Matriarch video on CZcams! I would love to see a Cuckoo video on the Moog One. It would probably last 8 hours, and I would binge watch the whole thing.
Second that Emotion
@@ronsunsinger483 third that whole stuff
are we not gonna talk about how he used a mirror for his face that's genius lmao
I just bought a shaving mirror on amazon!
You’re new here…
Analog is the way to go!
...for years...
Now this is the way to demo a synth. Done with love and interest too. That makes a lot of difference.
I don’t why I laughed soooo hard when cuckoo said “the mother, the mother of all...mothers?”
🤣
NES vibes! I want the Matriarchhhh
❤️👾
Cuckoo: *Makes a fat and juicy tone from scratch with patches and plays a sick little riff with it*
Cuckoo: "Cool"
Mr Cuckoo - I just wanted to say thank you for the years of teaching you've provided. Every new synth I get, your vids are the gospel. Everything from Octatrack to Matriarch I feel I owe you some beers. Cheers! Best CZcamsr ever.
You're in love. I understand. It happened to me as soon as I switched mine on for the first time. Even out of tune it drips mojo.
Bro, I don't care what any one says, it's cute. It's cute as hell. I'm gonna put a little cactus next mine. Yeaaaah.
Now I want a little cactus next to mine too lol
I just want a really nice cactus now.
Is a cactus required now? Ok. I got a Matriarch Dark... what do you suggest?

This is a wonderful tutorial I come from guitar and have had a long time interest to explore Moog especially since I recently lost a friend who has had a 70’s miniMoog D. For decades. When he passed away I helped his wife liquidate his collection of instruments and in so doing I made a commitment to myself to learn. About synthesizers. I started with a Moog Grandmother and within a few months I realized I needed a polysynth as I am just too used to chords as well as single notes and patching takes much time and experimentation. I am very grateful for videos like this as it keeps me going and wanting to learn more. The Matriarch is new to me, it arrived only a few days ago and I am ready to start the journey this is really helpful and makes it easy to grasp from a music point of view. Thanks for your time and insight.
Do I own a Matriarch? No. Am I planning on buying one in the near future? I wish, but no. Did I watch this whole thing in awe? Yes, I did.
I really wish I could afford these amazing pieces of gear. The sounds they make are just spectacular.
I love the special vibe you had at the beginning of the video when introducing this synth, as if you were talking about a very distinguished family member, that's a great feeling you shared!
Thank you for this joyous romp! So many cool sounds! I hope you will come back with even more videos as you explore sound creation with the Matriarch.
My all time favourite synth
Who else knows there’s a high chance you’ll never own one, but still enjoyed all 61 minutes of this video..
😅❤️
I got mine don’t be a baby lol
Just ordered mine!
Got the Matriarch the other day. Monthly payments from Sweetwater makes this a no brainer.
I want a Nord stage 4. I could probably get a couple of these for the price of one Nord LOL
its the raw perfection of paching you can ever get into one single synth for shure. Its different to all those programable + poly synths.....its the holly grail from semi-modular patching (manually)
Just got one and a cuckoo mega tutorial is exactly what I need in my life!
So happy I could be of service 🙏🏼
I agree. I have had one for a week and can't leave it alone. Gorgeous gorgeous sound.
You did it! You showed how to independently use each oscillator on the Matriarch! Great use of the Zoia Euroburo, as well! Very happy with this share!
We can feel the love you feel with this synth. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for such a joy. ❤️🌻
Such a great video! I cannot get over those sounds!
I'm so glad I fired off this video! Excellent tutorial, plus your passion for the instrument was evident from that incredible intro! I've got the Matriarch and Grandmother on the way now, dark version. Gonna be my first hardware synths, so you can imagine the excitement! I've been waiting a long time for this. Thanks so much for all the amazing info, I know I'll be back for more!
Probably the best synth on the market right now. I love the layout and color scheme, it is really easy to understand what's going on soundwise.
I'm really loving your vibes. Excellent showcase and props for using a mirror to show your face, that's really smart
Man thank you so much for taking the time to go all the way on this !
Always a fabulous adventure watching Cuckoo, and such clear explanation, served up with deep and genuine enthusiasm. Wonderful!!! ❤️
I’ve acquired this synth for my studio and I love it 😻 thanks for inspiring me
So enjoyable watching you do all this. Modular even makes sense to me more now.
36:26 that sequence is mad, my lad
I'm thinking of selling off a couple of my vintage synths to get one of these. Every sound I've heard from it is just absolutely gorgeous.
Sold a mono/poly for this and so glad I did. Miles better
Behringer have mono poly coming out soon to replace that one. I personally think it sounds fantastic. Probably cost about €2 as well
Far and away the best Matriarch video. I have one of these beautiful instruments and watching this has enabled me to get so much more from it, fabulous stuff Mr Cuckoo
Thanks a lot Luke! I appreciate it 🙏🏼
I’ve manage to hold this one off for quite a while, but couldn’t contain myself any longer. After watching this my patience kind of evaporated. Thanks for the great sounds and tips 🙌
Hey thanks man! It’s the coolest synth! You can take it in so many directions!
Hello!From Greece best synthesizer ever!
Really really nice creative demo. You explained so many things that weren't covered in the manual. My understanding of this synth was improved in magnitude like putting Krell IQ boosting contacts on my brainpan.
The lack of stereo outs and pans on the mixer really bummed me out. Although Matriarch is jam packed with features so I shouldn't complain. And the sound is like going back to the Electronic Music Lab at at San Fransisco State. What an awesome synth. Mine is parked right below my Euro synths. Nice expansion with the patch point interfacing.
Thanks Cuckoo!
Dude, you just sold so many Eurorack Zoias to pair with the Matriarchs everyone already owns. I know I’m getting one. I adore the Matriarch. I learned so much from your video. Thanks you!
Hey so happy to hear that, friend! I think the ZOIA is an amazing tool. This Eurorack version, the Euroburo, will be amazing once it launches later this year. I think to most semi modulars it could serve as a great solution-box.
@@truecuckoo Definitely sold one over here! Right now I'm looking for nice eurorack pairings for the Matriarch and this happened... Love to hear of more suggested eurorack pals for the Matriarch?
@@descrai Maybe a wavefolder and a low pass gate for some west coast spice to put into the mix? ;)
That's at least what I would do. Having said wavefolders and LPG's but no Matriarch.... :p
Excellent as always. Will be getting one this week :) loving the Spring colors too
This is going to end up being the most expensive one your tutorials talk me into adding to my set up... you've never steered me wrong, you always turn me onto the best gear
Thanks a lot for truly entertaining and insightful video! I love the metroid homage and will make an effort trying to recreate your patch/performance as it was EPIC!
Hello True Cuckoo, I wanted to thank you for this video tutorial, it is the most complete and calmly explained video, thank you very much for all the detail and work that it took you to record it, a hug from Chile
You have a very natural way of exploring and getting some amazing sounds from this synth. Thanks for the extended video!
Bravo! Great to see you working with a Moog.
Cuckoo....your the best. I watched your tutorials on both the Elektron RYTM and the Octatrack. Those videos got me up and running and now my "work flow" is smooth and focused on those instruments. Now, the moment I decided to get the Moog Matriarch your video here comes along. I havent gotten the Matriarch yet, but watching this video has got me ready and excited to go to work once it arrives. I cant thank you enough for your videos. Your approach to tutorials are just perfect. Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
I hope you hit his patreon :)
I swapped out my GM (which I was only starting to get to grips with) for a Matriarch. Now I'm totally lost. I went from every other patching attempt being usable to 1 in a dozen being semi listenable. I intend to watch this video 50 times at least. Hopefully I'll be up to speed in a year.
Awesome video mate! Miss the op-1 content
Nintendo melodies @59:06
Great tutorial, nice little sound design lesson too.
Originally spurred on by Loopop's video last year, and now yours taking it even deeper and in different directions - not only did I learn some general synthesis things, you've reaffirmed my choice for the Matriarch to be my first big synth. The matrixbrute is lovely and technical; and The Minibrute 2S/microfreak I have from Arturia already are lovely - but there is just something about that Moog warmth and friendly sound. The DFAM and Mother 32 (and totally subharmonicon perhaps even first) will be best friends with this. I've got enough saved up, just no space right now, ah!
Thanks again for this!
❤️
I have been listening to Lisa Bella Donna produce music on the Matriarch for years now and I am so blown away how similar your explorations sound to her music simply as a result of the extremely characteristic tone of the synth. Anyway, it was a joy to experience more of the Matriarch. Cheers!
❤️🙏🏼
That mirror is a pure genius act 👏
Fantastic video and techniques. I unfortunately had to return my Matriarch due to build quality issues and now have a Jupiter x, Hydrasynth and Seq pro3. Your video has me gassing gor a Matriarch again 😍😍
38:00 .. oh man, such rich sound.
The more you play the more I fall in love with this synth...
what an inspiring video. My matriarch has been sitting more than I would like and this video gave me some awesome ideas. Thanks a ton!
with your tutorial the Matriarch is even more fun.
Thanks for a really entertaining hour
Amazing MOOG Matriarch, thank you so much. HAPPY NEW YEAR dear Cuckoo. I like watching your videos. GOOD LUCK, many new ideas and TAKE CARE.
thank you man, truly inspiring stuff
I've been toying around with my matriarch for a couple of months now and learned a heap from watching this. Quality content!
Thank you so much Erik! 🙏🏼
Well done, that was superb
We love you, Cuckoo!!!
❤️ thank you!
This is amazing! My Matriarch is coming tomorrow and your video helped me understand this much more than any other videos. Thank you
very inspiring tutorial. thank you.
8:12 multi-trig demonstration very good.
11:37 paraphonic mode demo makes much more sense to me now. like an auto-arpeggiator for chords. sounds great.
17:30 combined resonance is a cool idea. I wonder if my MIDI-synced grandmother and mother-32 can make a similar effect.
20:41 great choice of timbres. sounds amazing; like an 80s video game church organ from Castlevania.
36:15 live changes to the recorded sequence is very cool.
The intro is soooo relaxing
This might be my favorite video on the internet
Thanks a bunch cuckoo. You’ve blessed me with matriarch knowledge.
Thanks Cuckoo! Great video, really helped me get off the ground with this synth.
i find it so crazy how i spoke to you about getting a synth and in the end i ended up getting the moog matriarch and then the day i pick it up .. boom! the great cuckoo puts out a mega tutorial for it!!!!!!
Great tutorial Cuckman! I was undecisive between the Sub37 and the Matriarch but know I know which one I go for.
Crazy good demonstration. Love 47:18. Stunning
Brother...…...your awesome man !! I love listening to your tutorials , its great for guys like me who have no clue what their doing
❤️ Thanks man!
I am also sick with this synthesizer disease Cockoo, like you🥰😊🙋♂️
Enjoy it!
Hello from Tallinn.
This intro is so sensual. I loved it, makes me feel good instantly.
Good Tuto Cuckoo San.
Pulling out the Euroburo… you're just showing off now. 😅
Lol. I thought about what I had, and I think the Euroburo was the most versatile module that I have. And it‘s also simple to frame in the shot.
Hey,...enjoyed this a lot!! A LOT! and as a beginner I learned a lot! Thanks man
Calming and delightful
Learned tons of important stuff, not written by the engineers. Thanks for focusing on what we really should know about the Matriarch
Absolute dream synth and (relatively speaking) fairly affordable for what you get. I'm thinking of getting a Minilogue XD but tempted to save up for another 6-12 months and get this. Amazing sounding synth with such great creative potential. Thanks for doing this video, really whet appetite!
davidevoid I agree that you should save up for the Matriarch. Next, go down the modular rabbit hole!
Very, well done!
This was/is a real help to me good sir. Thank you lots.
I know that this video is over 3 years old but 13:37 still gets me
Thank you so much for the tutorial!!
At 9:30, I’m like, “nah, one filter s plenty, thanks.” But seriously, great tutorial! I’ll be returning to this when I get mine next month.
(Also… you remind me of Billy Connolly!)
Very good synth for now!
Forever!
I've had my Matriarch for a few months and couldn't understand what the 4 Voice Paraphony was doing. You have made it so clear now. It dos take a little getting use to it but now at least I understand what is happening
18:39 overdriving the voices
21:04 filtered bubbles
37:52 Cuckoo Twin
47:22 Rain of Chernobyl
Check out the doepfer polyphonic modules for easy polyphonic options...they have quad vcas, quad adsr, and quad vcf. Mutable veils is also a really great quad vca
That sounds like immensely useful!
no one else, tuts the various 'moves' you can make with the synth. most just show what the knobs are. granted the last piece was hard for me to follow. but I need more instruction like "so you want to make the thing chime like a bell?" or "so you need a bit more attack" or lots of things. i'm a bit tired of just wanging on the dials and see what happens. I have goals and sounds in my head, and I want to get there. Like I want a tangerine dream kind of klang. i am past the what does an oscillator do. now I want to do things with it. I immensely appreciate the cuckoo style and methods. they are taking me where i want to go.
Yesss! Thank you for this!!
Thank you very much! That’s so cool!
Thank you for sharing, I needed a guide :)
43:03 Super Mario Bros Boss level (lava)
I think this is my 10th time watching this video and I pick up something new every time, and I own the god damn synth 😂😂😂
Amazing, thank you
Love this
so helpful. you're the man
