It sounds like a kalimba, and I think this is a kalimba on steroids
I played around with it at Superbooth. It can sound like a kalimba but surprisingly it can also sound like strings.
if you think about it, it is a kalimba, instead of you touching the metal reeds, there is an actuator that do that, and some pickups tha amplify the sound as in a guitar... i dont know if you have ever seen this: czcams.com/users/shortsLsIx6mNO0fs?si=4biKAfAm2lnOQrmx
@@shawnpi I know the principle behind an actuator. This is a creative idea but people on net are a little bit too exicited about this little device, I don't understand that. That's why I made a joke: It is a kalimba on steroid. 😀
kalimba + rhodes + volca
@@teknokont there's a bit more sonic capabilities on this than a kalimba or mbira with a contact mic. Like, having a pick-up for each bar like a Rhodes and with a more balanced output than a contact mic could hope to have without practicing a lot of kalilmba dynamics. This makes plugging in to other gear a bit less of a headache. not to mention the lfo that goes into the audio rate for frequency modulation.
Every machine that goes into Cuckoo's hand sounds like Cuckoo. It's not about the gadget, it's about your creativity
99% sounded meh, get real. Even a 100 euro tx81z sounds more interesting.
@@Madrrrrrrrrrrr mad
@@ibelieveinsound the concept is funny but the sounds are bad. Udo super 8 sounds amazing though.
that's what all musicians are about but I wouldn't call button pushers musicians at all. fiddlers with an idea maybe.
@@Madrrrrrrrrrrr totally !!
I look forward to playing with it in my hammock under some trees in a pine forest when released.
humans. do strange stuff in the pine forests.
This is incredible! I love where Korg is going now with their more original ideas.
I am really glad they are progressing with this and its not just a one off experiment. I hope it comes with a dust cover lol
This machine really resonates with me. (pun intended) Can’t wait for it being released next year. Hoping that it won’t be super pricey, but time will tell.
Ever since I first seen this, a year or two ago, I've been checking every few months, to see what the status is. I'm looking forward to this one.
Same here. Only synth in the past few years that I've really wanted.
Also followed from the beginning since it's the most interesting concept for sure. Though I think it's gone into over development. The results are less cool than it's theory for me. I would put into into Somas Vlad hands.
They should make a Bass Rhodes version of this.
YES! actually I had thought it would be good in a rhodes format, but it might not work in a "piano" type format at all. but a rhodes bass? that would be GREAT!
Perfect for video game music where a character is moving through a dense jungle.
😂👍
If there was ever a synth that was made just for you, this would be it
Sounds lovely! Great to chat with you for a bit at the Moog release event.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this last year, but I'm totally intrigued with it now! Seems like a fun-to-play electroacoustic instrument that would be great for studio experimentation as well as entertaining live performance!
Interesting how they took the initial keyboard concept in more of a drum machine direction... hoping they also make a slightly larger keyboard oriented version as well. I do like the idea of building your own scales, though. Very cool!
I’ve seen several videos on this, and I keep coming back to one thing-there needs to be some way to *bow* the tines. Either make the top curved and not flat so you can use a violin bow, or…I guess I am envisioning something like a buffing wheel rubbed in rosin and attached to a drill. Not sure why I keep fixating on this idea-probably because I like doing this sort of thing with sampled plucks, turning them into bowed sounds.
I really like this. Have to wait until next year for release though.
they wised up to people sticking contact mics on Karimbas 😅
I love this synth and can't wait to play one!
The fact it has audio rate oscillation is fantastic
Fascinating, I can see potential in the future.
imagine if they made this into a full electric piano form factor-ish, each gesture sensitive key with its own tweakable tine. Have a cat sleep on the bars for added effect haha
I loves the format of this video. Very introspective.
God I hope they release this and soon. Hopefully all the interest gets them moving.
This is cocko, true cocko,u are touched,u know it,we know it,as always,thanks!!!
Dude you always bend my brain. Thank you!
Thanks!
❤️⭐️
It would be SO COOL if they made this into a full keyboard. Imagine a Rhodes or Wurli, but with electromagnets instead of hammers 🤯. The core tech is in fact very similar to rhodes/wurli
i wonder if they could use this tech to make a reverb effect
wow....the tones you were getting out of it....amazing sounding.
The second I saw this machine I’ve been waiting for Cuckoo to get his hands on it.
Cool symbiosis between digital and analog synthesis
I want one soon as possible!
I hope this is affordable. The sounds are easy enough to reproduce on traditional instruments or synthesizers so probably not much use for cutting a track with it, but the fun of this particular synth would be having hands on with playing it, it I suspect. Because of the amount of time they’ve spent on development alone, though, I suspect this will run $800+.
lol I was standing right there at the booth but didn't recognize you without your beard. Well it was nice to meet you! xD
I absolutely can't wait till this thing is actually released !!!
Love the tactility and the clean visuals of it. I hope they keep this design…
To make it less gimmicky. Make the metal parts playable. Thinking xylophone
Amazing! I want one!
This and a lyra 8 would be a amazing combo
I love the idea of this instrument. I hope the final version has at least 12 sound bars so it can be played in any key!
I really hope they get a product out like this. Guaranteed customer right here
It's the most interesting synth i've seen in many years. I wonder how much will it cost.
What a brilliant idea, it's like if someone turned a Kalimba into a synth. Such a cool instrument, would love to play with one someday! I hope they aren't insanely expensive...
Electromechanical wonder! Like a kalimba/noise box drum machine. I would love to hook this up to a granular processor like the texture lab. 😲 Even just dry it sounds amazing.
My highlight too 🎉 was excellent
Phenomenal! 😀
Prepared Synthesizer? John Cage would be proud.
Amazing⚡⚡
best part of the conf in my opinion. apart from your klunkerkranich set ofc
Thank yoU! ❤️
whoa! thats so cool
Another synth from Korg that will never come out to the public.
oh youuuuuuu! hugs and kisses
This is the new fender Rhodes. If korg makes a 73 model it’s gonna be a Hit !
I bet KORG were super excited for you to play with this. It's got CUCKOO written all over it!
It’s ahead of its time. Its sales will be slow at first, but it will result in amazing synths in the 2030’s.
Tats is a cool guy. 👍
2:19 that release time sounds sweet, or whatever it is that you did there
This seems wonderful, hopefully the cost isn't too prohibitive!
awesome❤🙏🙃
Waiting for the aphex twin demo
it sounds like it might used extensively in one of his live sets from last year, If you look up some of his unreleased live track comps on YT there is something that sounds extremely close
Want!
Id love to see bigger versions of these with bigger bars
_This sounds like a_ *Cuckoo* device! 🐦
I always wonder if he makes music for video games
nice
Can it play a chromatic scale? or only 8 notes?
Electric kalimba was not on my bingo card for 2024.
What's the price? I love it
it's a real piece of s... !
Korg decided to intervene on the Soma market... hmmm.... not what we expected but Korg is notorious on creating experimental
ot-really-profitable stuff lately. But i'm sure the people who loved Soma Terra will be satisfied. For all the others... hard pass. But hey at least it's kinda new market for Korg, which is good.
Korg have skipped past developing a purely true analogue equivalent of the OG Electribe boxes... & made a acoustic organic equivalent to something that otherwise... Is something new, but also very much sounds to my ear, like the better sounding & easy to use OG & ValveForce series Electribes. I like this, hopefully it will spawn a few different products of similar nature... & then Korg might realise developing a range of pro Volca/Analogue Electribe spec'd out grooveboxes by then too? Or the super VA/sampler groovebox they should have made by now for otherwise falling well short on the E2 & E2S Electribe flip flop... Korg could imo, still develop a E2XT... Make it purple so its marketed properly on release as being the merging of Electribe VA synthesis of earlier blue models, & earlier Sampler red models... Purple is the both sides of tribes in 1 new Electribe box... I dont think Korg would have to actually change the face of its existing E2'S hardware for creating a better pro spec purple 3rd E2 in with the 2 already developed for that series too... The workflow & operation of E2's is actually no probs imo... They just need to put the best cpu chip under the hood for the job of making it double up on polyphony, motion sequences... & most of all process the VA modelling of the sounds & synthesis engine, at the best resolutions for which korgs modelling should deserve to be generated out at... There is nothing about the VA sound & modelling in E2 Electribes that come close, to that of KingKorgs. So korg owes us a Electribe that should compare to VA synthesis & modelling quality of KingKorgs... The sold us short marketing the recent E2'S on the KingKorgs strengths supposedly incorporated over for them... Cookoo can ya KingKick Korg in the Klacklers & convince some Korgie onto a purple E2XT supa tribe type concept...
I still love hearing about it. But the tines don’t have the initial clarity of tone and sonic information as in a Wurlitzer, Rhodes, or even a kalimba.
It’s sort of like Baseball electronica: no fun to hear unless your playing it
Cant wait for the bad gear episode on this
What's the midi situation?
It has its’ in and outs, but fortunately the most of it is through.
what a exiting instrument ... played by experiment. g r e a t
seems to me that the user interface is wrong and the buttons and knobs should be farther away from the user and the tines should be closer so the times can be played with touch vs focusing the user on the knobs and buttons. Also it needs more tines.
I hope Korg puts a lot of dev in this direction. Korg keeps winning me over with their forward-thinking ideas. They’ve been making Roland look ridiculous pretty frequently since Monotron, Monotribe, Volcas started. Minilogues and even the non-Tats things like Wavestate and such, really high quality instruments at a reasonable price point. While Roland is by and large making repackaged versions of their 1980s stuff over and over that cost too much. (Except for the recent volca-like mini series which are frankly excellent.)
Or get a real Zimbabwean made mbira and put it through pedals. At least you can still maintain it in ten years time!
💆♂️
Acustic DFAM
It's a one trick pony BUT a nice one at that.
Sounds great but anything with electromagnets is a risk to my pacemaker :(
Cuckoo is the only one I've seen that can make listenable sounds out of this machine so far
can't wait to see some actual music from this thing instead of aimless noodling.
This is a machine I REALLY wanted to like… but I’m personally finding it to be somewhat disappointing at this stage of its development. Having said that, I do commend Korg for pushing the boundaries of synthesis.
It's sounding a bit strange for a synth but if you consider it as an electromechanical kalimba with midi it sounds great😊
robo kalimba?
Sounds very annoying to me but its cool it exists..
Hope it doesn’t stay a prototype.
I am the king of the underground .. why don't they send me a prototype?
Seems incredibly limited.
Are we just making noise now..?
What happened to melody, harmony…?
lol but whole video is full of melodies
@@bonwowo time stamp them?
have you considered that all songs have multiple elements to them? and have you listened to electronic music before? its pretty grooooovy you'd love it
@@loudcloud6889 do they really?
They make music with electricity now? Wow.
WTF is wrong with younger people being so obsessed with kalimbas?
How refreshing
People whom think this is boring have no rhythmic personality.
Doesn't appeal to me I'm afraid. It seems to be just a glorified kalimba.
You seem to be a glorified calimba yourself..
Just another influencer getting paid to advertise people's products so no impartiality.
What product? You can't buy this, you know. It's still a concept, but further along. People try it out and give feedback (pun intended) and they'll continue to develop it, and hopefully there will be a product, at some point. Or a few.
He was already mesmerised by weed even before touching this unispired rubbish Kalimba
