It's like if a kalimba and a synth had a baby - love it! For anyone interested you can also look up the earlier iteration of this instrument, it was shown as a much more raw prototype last year at superbooth '23 (there's a nice video of Tats explaining in detail the technology and science behind all the overtones - he seems like such a smart and creative dude!). It's really interesting to see how this has progressed comparing these two videos, so I'm looking forward to when they finally have a working production model and I can grab my own. In the meantime I'll grab this samplepack, thanks David! :)

I also wanted to add, that many of these sounds can be found, rather naturally within the wide variety of Indonesian Gamelan music, particularly here, in an instrument which comes in a variety of octaves (sets of 6 drums each, called a Bonang. Very pleasing.

Yes the sounds it makes are very gamelanesque, and also a little like prepared piano, but I feel like the basic idea could be applied to differently shaped tines that would produce other styles of sound too, imagine using springs for instance

You've made me realise how versatile acoustic instruments are. People can find new ways of engaging with them for decades, while a lot of electronic instruments seem to be designed much more rigidly. I love the idea of this new Korg instrument, because its analogue elements make it a lot more versatile, without the designers needing to add any more features.

This might be really good for synthy jazzy stuff. There's an instrument called the Hang, which is used extensively by a band I really enjoy, Portico Quartet. This has a somewhat similar sound to that, only more synthy and with less resonance. Will surely try it out later. Thanks for another great instrument, David!
Edit: after trying it out my suspicions were correct. The middle of this instrument's range very much sounds like a crystal clear Hang drum! Great for jazz, and better yet it's completely free!

As a retired engineer I’ve long recognized that Roland is run by engineers who happen to play music while Korg is run by musicians who happen to be engineers. This is a vast simplification but it makes the point: I would have been absolutely gobsmacked if Roland had produced this, but Korg? I can only smile. That’s my Korg, nice job guys and gals.
Btw David, not sure of your ambitions, if you’re more liable to open a Tindie storefront or enter into a partnership with a music gear manufacturer, but many of your videos could be classified as Delightful Instruments, which perhaps could be flashed onto a Pi or packaged as a 1010 Black/Blue/etc. box. Think of it, a new Omnichord or Vocaloid or even this Korg venture. Hilowitz Instruments! In a box, with knobs and a screen 😎
