âDid they go to the pancake place??â
-Mrs. Eats, asking the important questions
latinos and east asians are like polar opposites when it comes to affection and intimacy, the video is such a culture clash
I agree with that statement and you sometimes never know what Japanese women are thinking. I have been married to one for many many years and think that women are polar opposites of men.
Yeah, and I'm autistic and don't get body language. All of this would be so confusing for me to try to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
No shit man
Interesting observation. I never had any preconceptions about what ethnicity I wanted to date... But (and I'm a white gringo gaijin waygook) my most serious relationship ever was with a Latina. Then I spent a decade in Korea. I hooked up with plenty of Korean women, but never found myself in a serious relationship. Probably my fault.
Now I'm...ok, fine, I'll say it: in love with another Latina. It's always been hard for me to say the L-word, but I think telling her I want to wake up next to her every day gets the point across.
Don't know how much you can generalize about...not even a race in this case, but a linguistic group... One looked vaguely East Asian, the other is a natural brunette with brown eyes, but otherwise looks about as white as they come... But they both LOOOOVE being held and kissed all the time, which is perfect for me, because I am also abnormally, compulsively affectionate.
@Beau-Angelo Simon who would you say the black people of the east are?
I too agree that the sudden change of plans skit was annoying,.
Heck, if I plan to go out to eat, I'm probably also going to be hungry, why the heck would I want to go for a hike?
About that planning example... Not going to lie, if my date told me we were going to get pancakes and then we went hiking I'd be pretty disappointed too. I mean, they are totally different environments, and what if you're not into hiking? I think most people can relate to this in general!
Well that and to change plans without notifying the other person is irresponsible.
Its weird how this a joke video about Japanese women, but this applies to everyone.
@@TheOriginal_Unaleska But I think in other countries or culture, the women might speak up. Where as some Japanese women might go along even if they do not like or were not properly prepared.
It's weird in all countries. :D
Not to mention that you probably will have made sure you were at least a little hungry for a food date, and now yay, surprise exercise!
@@faiaflrt Exactly. I would be excited for the food!
Group dates would stress me out. As a shy person who takes time to warm up, I find it easier to be more vocal in a one to one conversation lol
As someone who has been on both a group date and one on one date it is actually easier to go on a group date.
stressful for me too, i could only think of one other friend id even consider bringing and i wouldnt be comfortable at all, since its just not a group dynamic ive ever been in or really seen.
Yeah on a group date is actually easier since you don't have to worry about staying interesting and you can let other people talk.
Depends on the people. Personally, I don't feel the need to compete and get my voice heard, so I'm usually the quiet one groups just listening. Group dates aren't a good way for people like me to shine, which is why I avoid them early on until someone has a chance to get to know me.
It's called speed dating
What bothers me is that he invited her to a pancake house, yet when she arrived he changed his mind and took her out for hiking instead.
I hate people like that and I am guy, I love planning and sticking to plans. Changes are acceptable, that is why you need Plans B-E at least :p

I don't have a Japanese gf, but I was recently talking with a Japanese girl on an app, I asked if we can talk on video call and when is she free between saturday and sunday , she said "maybe I'm free on both" so I said "how about Saturday 5pm?" and she said "maybe that's ok" . they're like a puzzle , aren't they?
I guess it's like, either she's unsure if she really wants to do video call but didn't want to be rude about it or she just didn't want to make full promise when she didn't know her schedule yet.
I say that mostly because that'd be what's in my mind if I say something like that.
@@skye387 I see, well I just assume she'll show up on time. And if she doesn't show up, it's not a big deal anyways
So after all this time, did it happen or not?
@@guilhermecardoso5862 yep, we talked multiple times, and then I've talked with other women too. I'd say they take a little bit more time getting comfortable but it's worthwhile
Same here bro happened to me yesterday!
The sound just died....?
Yeah, I was thinking my headset disconnected for a bit when that happened.
Huh. In western culture, if a woman recoils from you like that, it's also taken as a sign that she may not like you too much.
But I'd say that it would be a hard no kinda deal, Not a "too soon"
i think that's universal sign. if you are sentient being in somewhere this universe, this sign definitely means no.
btw, if a woman recoils from you and you are still trying to get closer, it's also a sign that you have no self respect.
Yeah but a western woman would probably say outright that she doesnât want to kiss or apologize to the guy and say something. So it is a bit of a difference in noting how some cultures are more body language oriented
@@youtubeuseri57 Thatâs only for more extroverted or confident women though. Anyone whoâs shy probably isnât going to say an outright confident no. An more introverted people will probably try to be more subtle about it to so as to not cause any sort of confrontation. Of course thereâs exceptions to this, but I wouldnât just say a western woman would âprobablyâ be more forward. Maybe half the population would? The more extroverted and confident ones? The other half of the population is probably going to just back away or do a little dodge and awkward laugh or something.
@@emikookime1849 true. I thought the slight recoil was a universal thing, but it may also be generational and regional. It's always been a "no" or "not just yet" in my circles. I'm 39 in NC.
Wish we had them group dates as a regular occurrence here in America then I might actually get a date as someoneâs +1
Step 1; get rid of the Naruto headband and don't mention anime to a Japanese lady. They'll laugh at you.
@@Magilla.Guerrilla itâs not like itâs an everyday piece of Attire but I get the point, then again I never specifically said I was talking to Japanese women, most of the women I know have their own headband and watch more anime than me
That is what college is -you go to college games or bars or whatever. And you can still do that as adults -go on cruises or ski trips and stuff.
@@Magilla.Guerrilla That's not true. I have a Japanese girlfriend and we both love anime... You can't take everything you hear about "Japanese women" as 100% facts, There are a lot of different women in Japan, just like anywhere else.
I'm 32 btw, before you start calling me a virgin boy or some stupid shit like that...
@@Magilla.Guerrilla Not necessarily that depend what type of girl you want to attract there are tons of girls who are into animes and stuff, OP can go to a anime convention and manga cafe and try to get girls there.
Ah, ah, ah, a common mistake, but "Japanese pancakes" typically refers to okonomiyaki, a fried cabbage dish topped with mayonnaise and a special savoury sauce, and *not* a spontaneous hiking date.
đđđ
From my experience dating someone who was Japanese, the body language is very apparent, because I was very distant with the touching scenario (being autistic) and when she went to kiss me she thought I didnât like her anymore at first. Till she learnt that I did like her and we ended up eventually kissing
That's a beautiful story.
ââ€
You guys sound cool, I hope you're doing well
Hope it developed into a happy relationship.
As soon as he looked at her in that pretty outfit and said "let's do a hike" it was all over đ
My gf is Japanese and I can relate to this lol
If my date backed away when I got any sort of close Iâd literally go home and re evaluate my life
This comment really warmed my heart, I've got a lot of respect for that kind of honor

Easiest way to make a date feel like crap lmao
@@MsJeanneMarie Most guys don't know how to treat a woman, no matter the country or culture. No date ever backed away from me, because their companionship was a treasured gift. My goal was to put stars in her eyes, and that can be done from a respectful distance.
That would be the last date. I can't handle that much social awkwardness. If we don't bone on the first meeting i'm done.
You have such a sweet voice. It would be nice if you made a video about dating in Japan đ
The face reaction was priceless when he said hiking. Instant face drop. đ
Maybe a little too slapstick for my tastes when it comes to informative videos, but some useful information for an unlikely future of dating Japanese women.
I hope the video is useful for you!
I was thinking the same!! They are cute and do seem to like us as well, but they live by a lot of little rules. I think it's unlikely I will date a Japanese Girl, but I guess you never know. This is nice. Iâm glad Iâve been getting notifications to these different Japanese CZcams channels.
Itâs always nice to get the perspective of those from another country. Iâve been to a handful of them myself and itâs always a pleasant experience.
Also I must embarrassingly admit that Japan is one of those countries Iâve been interested in with the culture, art, history and technological advancements to name a few. Iâve even made a few dear friends with a common interest in this country. They are now living there and I hope to one day visit them there.
Thank you for your work. These videos provide a valuable insight that I would be unaware of on my end.

Thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching them .
Mrs Eats is so cute. Love the videos and information. Thank you.
This is very interesting, thank you so much for sharing.
It is a bit off topic but the food aspect of the video made me wonder about Japanese cuisine. I am a Korean American and grew up in the United States of America. Without much direct exposure to Japanese culture, I have only been able to think of Japanese cuisine as consisting of udon, sushi, ramen, and other foods that one might find in for example a Japanese anime.
There was one time where I visited South Korea and wanted to see if there was a place where authentic Japanese cuisine was served but I imagine that in South Korea, the cuisine would be somewhat adapted to match Korean tastes more than a Japanese one. Hopefully once travel is normalized and the Coronavirus no longer poses the same problem as it does today, I will be able to visit Japan and get a better sense of the Japanese culture, mindset, and social customs.
From hearing fellow travelers my bet is, it isn't very similar same way French and UK or German food aren't the same.
There's something about sharing borders and origins for millenia but being quite distinct cultures.
Mexico and Canada might not be great comparisons next to the US though for being comparatively too culturally similar or too disjoined in time and culture like in Mexico.
There are times planning can be difficult if you do not know the area. Usually in this case I simply ask her to meet me in a mall for coffee , if we click we can catch dinner and then a movies. If things develop further you can always ask her to give you a tour. You should always have something planned so that she knows how to dress. I have not dated Japanese women because I have not been to Japan but I have dated women in the Philippines and Cambodia and usually will do what I mentioned above.
Very informative... Thank you đ
Imagine taking your girlfriend/or a date whoâs wearing a dress and a pair of heels to hiking LOL
You at least should do some research, have boots and clothes in her size, and then give her the option if she wants to hike or not.

I can def get behind the 6' distance rule. I've been to a few social/professional events where people I barely know just come up and hug me. Or men whom I've known for 30secs pat my back.

Not sure why it be off putting to wait to kiss someone, most sensible people donât run around kissing everyone one the first date..
Bruh, have you even seen romcom anime?
I'm a 70 year old guy, and I would not try to kiss a woman so quickly. I can be a bit shy or backward. Make my hand available, not for a handshake, almost as if to say, if you want to hold my hand, that's okay.
@@jimmyshaffer6613 The goal isn't to get in a kiss but to get in their dreams.
I know a girl who waits after marriage before having sex. She is married with her man now and is blessed with two kids.
I remember when I was a child my grandmother would always correct me when I said I loved something or someone when really I should have said I liked something or someone. She was a retired schoolteacher and this would have been in the 1960s and 1970s. I always thought she was being too fussy. But now I think that people toss the phrase "I love you" around so much that it has lost its meaning.
loved this. And yes, that AKB48 song shows um... i mean it tells alot . well done video and reaction
I hope that these tips will help me find and date a girl like Mrs. Eats!
Its very fascinating to see your mix and Japanese and American mannerisms in speech and expressions.
Bwahahaha... The "I love you" thing is such a misunderstanding! In some western cultures or America, saying "I love you" in that way to someone you're in a relationship with can be big deal, and just saying "thank you" back can be one of the worst things to say because we take it to imply that you don't feel the same way.
While we say " love" more freely, what we mean and how important that word is depends on our intonation and context, etc. I really like how both sides of the situation are shown so potentially people from Japan and other countries can understand both sides.
Neither one did anything wrong. It's just a difference in culture that leads to some very hilarious moments, lol.
I once had a salesgirl in Yokohama launch into a full on conversation with my because I understood the how to act politely.
Only after she asked me a question, did I explain I didn't understand Japanese. Fortunately, she also spoke English!
Also, I love Natto. I could eat the bowl like that!
Sheâs that boss lady teaching kanchou masterclass right?
OMG! I love the idea of goukan, I didn't know that was a thing. I swear I was Japanese in a past life, I spend a lot time watching videos about Japan on you tube, I love so many things about their culture and watch mostly Japanese movies on Netflix, I don't mind the subtitles.

My wife did the same thing when I tried to kiss her. I didn't quite understand and thought maybe something was wrong even after several dates. Then one day she kissed me. The rest is history.
I have that being polite "flaw" as well my danish friends back when I was a child often didnt understand this.
I feel a little less stressed in how I approach dates and public with my fiancĂ© now after watch this. It reminds me that itâs just how I was raised and that everyone expresses love differently! I must show this to him, he will laugh!
@5:40 in the Netherlands that would be seen as an insult.
here one should respect the other by being honest it is not very polite to lie even if you think you spare someones feelings..
it also helps misunderstandings.
Her English is very fluent. I thought Japanese people need extra effort to learn English, since Japanese people already has to learn Hiragana & Kanji for their country language. Sorry for my bad English.
Guess it is hard, but its nothing that cant be done.
Some foreigners also speak Japanese Fluently, but i guess its somewhat more easy to learn english when you're japanese, especially since the sounds you make are not far apart. Only thing may be the "r" and "l" in English what may be confusing for some others...
prolly would make it easier if anything. most Asians have remarkably good English, just like you
I believe the channel that made the original video is based in Canada, so it's possible that this is different there, but in the United States, it would definitely be considered quite rude for him to wait until she shows up in her nice clothes to suggest going on a hike. It would be much more normal for them to have discussed going on a hike ahead of time so that both of them would know what to wear (and also so that he would know that she would enjoy it).
AKB48 HEAVY ROTATION!!!!
I like your channel very much.
Hello Mrs. Eats, I Love all of your CZcams videos! I live in Canada. I watched a lot of CZcams videos where Japanese people say they donât really like natto. When I tried it, I loved it! To me it does not smell bad at all⊠It smells like coffee⊠If anything⊠I really like it over rice with a raw egg some soy sauce and sesame oil and garnished with green onions⊠Is the reason many Japanese people donât like natto because is it possible that the Japanese pallet is more suited to more bland foods rather than very big flavors? Anyway⊠Just to say⊠I love natto!! Keep the wonderful videos coming! I love the one on Fakkinâ!! đ€Łđ€Ł
my biggest argument with my ex wife was always deciding where to go to dinner... planning can be important outside Japan as well.

6:43 I have that Sailor Moon shirt...omg. Got it from the flea market around here.
And yes, that's a hardcore way to start your day. In the few times I've had it, I always felt that it needed sugar or honey to help take the edge off. Sadly, I have yet to try that again. Life goals! XD
9:02 I know about these words and what they mean, they're the cause of so many annoying and unnecessary misunderstandings in Anime (and that's the main way I learn Japanese: Anime with subs), seriously, the problems that the politeness of not directly saying what they mean causes, I would argue can be seen as impolite itself (I mean what's polite about making everyone involveds lives harder?)
Puertoricans are really affectionate, I think the start of the relationship could be difficult. Its important to communicate.
Awesome channel Iâll learn a lot from you !! But can you please try to match the audio from the video youâre reacting to with your voice? Sometimes I couldnât hear the video đ
Again, culture clash. In my country (Brazil), if you go to the right places (like night houses, clubs, bars/pubs and etc.), you may get a woman or a man in the first night. Holding the hand of the other person is soooo common and banal (if they are in the stage of "ficar" here, which may start in the first night they meet). I saw your eyes "flashing" when you saw both holding hands with each other. LOL... in my country it's strange if a couple don't KISS in the same night they started to be together, just some kind of chemistry between them is enough to kiss.
We have 3 stages of dating:
1) Ficar = it's just sex, it's a "colorful" friendship only. Like a special friendship between two people and/or it can be a way to see if we want our partner, if we like the same things and etc. It can also be seen like a test drive, but it's also a bed test drive if you know what i mean. There's nothing worse than a person who is not so good with the XXX matters.
That's super informative. Thanks for that.
So um how does one move to Brazil
Japanese discomfort with expressing humor, and the truth that is intrinsic to it, would be one of the biggest obsticals for me. Feeling out each other's sense of humor is one the best ways to get to know someone and whether you want to take things to the next level. Never "pretend" to love someone's joke.
Culture is important, but I guess personality is a crucial point. I am Brazilian and in some things I look like an asian man: organization, planning, expression of feelings.
Thank you for this video and commenting. Not directly related but maybe interesting. Many Europoean men see Japanese and Asian women as very beautiful. Beautiful black hair, beautiful Asian eyes, a nice smile, neat ...
HEAVY ROTATION BY AKB48!!!!!!!! One of my favorite songs by them!!! AKB48 was the last hook that needed to be set to make me want to move to Japan! Their music is fantastic and their shows are better than anything else on the planet! Okay, fripSide, Garnidelia, Ishido Yuko, LiSA and even E-Girls as well as others are also outstanding but, AKB48 and their sister groups are the best. Period! Exclamation point!
Unfortunate it was not easy to hear most of the soundtrack from the video that you were reviewing. It may be useful to others but, I have already been learning about Japanese women and this has confirmed much of what I learned. There were also some new things that I picked up such as the part about Ghoukon. That was not covered well elsewhere so it helped a lot.
I am going to totally love retiring to Japan!
90% of this is just dating in general. Still a fun video. đ
I've seen a interesting video of a kpop group called izone. They have a few Japanese members, but most are korean. Koreans don't seem to have a problem saying I love you to their family members. That was exaggeration to express a point, but its true. If it was not planned a month in advance and its any kind of surprise or spontaneous action it makes Japanese feel bad. Even if he offered her to have dinner in different restaurant then they have planned or something similar it would make her feel uncomfortable. Source married to Japanese woman.
When you were talking about the not saying I love you. I'm mexican and I speak spanish we don't say I love you to any friends or family we only say that to are romantic partner we say I like you or I like you alot so cool to see some simalarties
I think the point was that the Japanese never use the phrase "I love you" even to romantic partners. I've met Europeans who are the same way, with a literal translation of this English phrase but it never gets used by anyone ever.
