Her response was, "...and I take it you said, 'thanks dad, but no thanks. I don't want something terrible like that,' right?" When I said, "no, I was happy to get it," she asked me why I would want to shoot innocent squirrels and birds.
To her it was a natural, logical assumption that the only reason you would want a gun is to kill innocent beings. It didn't even cross her mind that I just enjoyed target shooting. These anti-gun people think the one and only reason any of us have guns is because we take pleasure in death and destruction. And yet, if I had said I was into archery, she wouldn't have automatically assumed that I do it because I love killing.

Unfortunately for Daniel Perry his claim of self defense, while being at face value entirely legitimate was mitigated (in the eyes of the jury who convicted him) by a long history of social media posts in which he expressed very explicit racial hatred and desire to murder "black daddies". This did not eliminate his right to self defense but in the eyes of the jury it surely established a premeditation for murder. Governor Abbot at face value vowed to pardon this conviction based upon his initial briefing, but upon hearing all of the (social media) background facts deferred to the parole board, which apparently agrees with the conviction. So is this a 2A issue? maybe, maybe not, but if you want a solid footing for your future 2A defense, it might be in your best interest to stay off social media and not to tell the world who you intend to kill when you get the chance.

The scariest part of being involved in a shooting isn't the gun battle, the fact that this person intended to kill you, or the fact that you had to choose to use your weapon in self-defense. It isn't even the fact that you just shot or even killed a human being. The scary part is having your weapons seized, being investigated and possibly charged/imprisoned for crimes, knowing your only choice was shoot or die.

I put my garbage in my range bag, walk straight to the door, and throw it away in the shop - that way, I’m not exposing myself to the half dozen or so shooters in the adjacent lanes. It’d be great if all first-time shooters spent an hour or so with a seasoned owner before they go out on their own. A point that is missed here is that when you speak about soc-economic issues with gun violence, you have to talk about fatherless boys. It is the main reason for the shootings in the city. The boys join gangs and the gangs become their surrogate fathers. Almost 90 per cent of men in prison were fatherless. Almost all of the mass shootings are done by fatherless boys. 75% of all black births are without a father in the home. 33% of white births are without a father in the home. Add to that divorces where the father does not want to be, or is not allowed to be present for the son and we end up with over 50% of all boys are growing up without a father present in the home. The government and the welfare system has created this problem. Solve that problem and you solve the incredible numbers of murders in our inner cities. If you remove the murders in just five of our biggest cities, the US becomes almost last in number of murders per capita. This issue should be at the forefront of every conversation about crime, period.

I think one of the most important things Colion talked about- something that is rarely discussed- is that these mass shootings go beyond mental health. In the pod he described it as clout, but Dr. Peterson said it best: that these shooters would rather die in infamy than continue living in anonymity. In case anyone was wondering, when they are talking about tasers not working on people who are on drugs, it usually doesn’t have anything to do with the drugs in their system. More often than not, the taser malfunctioned or didn’t get a proper connection. Tasers shoot out two prongs and BOTH need to make a connection with the person’s skin in order to complete the circuit and provide the shock to the individual. Tasers are actually pretty notorious for not working all the time whether it’s because the subject moved at the last second or they are wearing thick clothing that prevents the connection. Unfortunately, not a lot of people realize this and that’s why there are a lot of misunderstandings when it comes to police video footage of shootings/taser deployments.

I've been tasered with the Taser X26 on two occasions: in the police academy and as a new-hire requirement of one of the agencies I worked for. There are two basic ways to deploy the X26. First by firing the two darts housed in the cartridge attached to the Taser. Best results require that the darts be at least about 18" or more apart and, ideally, one in each the top half of the body and the other the bottom half. The greater the separation, the more effective. While they are high voltage, most of that voltage doesn't enter the body and it has very amperage. The Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation effect is more the result of the wave form of the electrical charge than its voltage. This wave form mimics the wave form of the human nervous system signals that control the contraction of the muscles. Under NMI, all of your muscles contract as hard as they can for the duration of the cycle (usually five seconds in the X26). Your calves in particular are sore after just one cycle. While early versions of the Taser could be defeated by a strong and determined subject, I've never seen one, regardless of size, be able to overcome the latest X26. The link below has some pretty good info if anyone is interested.
    jnlwp.defense.gov/About/Frequently-Asked-Questions/Human-Electro-Muscular-Incapacitation-FAQs/
