I got sent a video from a comedian Steve Hofstetter that claimed he defeated every argument against gun control. He stated, "People against gun control parrot the same arguments over and over. Here’s a detailed takedown of every single one of them."
I felt compelled to counter all 23 of his points and point out the straw man fallacies people like to use when arguing against guns. There's a lot to unpack here, so this will be a multiple-part series. Here are Arguments 1-5.
Argument 1. - If you think there should be absolutely no laws when it comes to the regulation of firearms that means it shouldn't be child endangerment to give one to a toddler, "Arm the toddlers like the Bill of Rights intended"
Argument 2. - The Constitution is not absolute because that's what an amendment is. 27 Times the United States has seen fit to fix something that the Constitution either left out or got completely wrong.
Argument 3. - The justification to make it harder for responsible people to own guns because then it would also be harder for irresponsible people to own a gun.
Argument 4. - Registering your guns.
Argument 5. - Gun registration leads directly to confiscation is a hilariously untrue statement.
Steve Hofstetter & others who are pro gun control are entitled to their views on gun control issues. Please always be respectful to others including Steve Hofstetter and their views whether you agree with them or not.

"You don't need an assault rifle to shoot a deer"
The 2nd amendment isn't for shooting deer. It's for shooting tyrants.
If you ask me, a tyrant staring down the barrel of a gun and about to be killed by one of the lowly serfs he was trying to rule over would probably have a "deer in headlights" thing going on.
The tyrants have drones dude. I dont think your silly bullets are going to do much.
@@Mikael-jt1hk Then why does it matter if I have them?
@@Mikael-jt1hk How exactly do you think it'll go if the government does one day go too far and crosses a line that shouldn't be crossed?
Do you think the people operating those drones are going to side with the government? Do you think they have no choice but to side with the government? Sure, you might have some who side with the government, but would it be enough?
Further, for a government that has become tyrannical to even try to use the level of force that you're suggesting, would mean destroying the country's infrastructure. Its a lose-lose outcome for such a government.
Finally, weapon superiority only goes so far. Remember those wars where the US had practically all of the superiority you could want in your favor to win... and... didn't.
My friends and I actually enjoy hunting with our AR platform firearms
That “Canada doesn’t confiscate guns” comment aged so goddamn well
Are they confiscating? I thought they just froze the transfer of handguns.
@@vexrich that’s where they are now but the use is illegal so they will inevitably begin taking them unless someone finds a collector loophole where they still can’t be used
@@PBOperator now they are doing a “mandatory gun buyback”
An amazing example of gun control done right, yeah ok.
@@vexrich it's a "Mandatory buy-back" of over 1500 style guns that the government deems scary. They introduced this Order In Council 2 years ago but are taking their time to actually buy them back - likely due to budget issues.
They also recently started pushing through legislation for banning any handgun transfers, which includes new purchases and any private sales. Our PM went as far as saying "this legislation doesn't affect law abiding gun owners"
Canada being an example of NOT confiscating firearms has aged like fine wine
Dude tried to use the "locked doors", but left out "only keeps out honest people."
Yup. “Makes it harder for irresponsible people to get guns?” Oh do tell how it’s so hard for all the people shooting up Chicago to get guns, or all the other literal felons who don’t give a damn about any gun law.
Enough bullets will make a door useless. And doors aren't always bullet proof.
Steve’s wife’s boyfriend is a gun owner.

I'm not from the US and I'm curious about your need for firearms, have you ever been in situations where you needed guns?
I just tell gun hating overgrown toddlers like him "You can avoid inconvenient realities & perform mental gymnastics all you want. Shoving your fingers in your ears & covering your eyes when reality fails to pacify or placate you doesn't make irrefutable facts an less irrefutable. Guns result in FAR more lives being saved in comparison with lives that are lost every year. Example: Seat belts...if the news constantly displayed graphic footage regarding seat belts cutting people in half when worn incorrectly the masses could very well be persuaded into banning SEAT BELTS. Perfectly accurate analogy, PERIOD. Seat belts do result in gruesome deaths when utilized incorrectly BUT overall they save way more lives than they take. Period. Sound familiar? Im tired of either political spectrum constantly utilizing deflection tactics & scapegoats. We the people deserve better. The industrial sized infants in power refuse to acknowledge the elephants in the room..because they are the elephants. Simple.

@@emilhammervold1095what a dumb response
@@emilhammervold1095 How can you make everyone not have guns? There’s no such thing as a magic button to delete every firearm in existence
He brought up giving a 2 yard old a gun. That has to be the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. Also, murderous neighbor? They should be in jail…
Murder, rape, and robbery should not be crimes. With common sense gun control, none of those things would ever happen again.
@@Icemario87You're joking, correct?
@@Ladis1 Correct.
The Constitution and law has forever meant law abiding citizens of 18 years of older who aren't criminals or other categories of dangerous people (mentally insane, threat to US in time of war, etc). It used to exclude slaves and certain "races" (race isn't a legitimate scientific difference, and clearly it isn't a legitimate category to make decisions on except from a historic view), but that was thankfully destroyed. So that straw man argument sounded even more idiotic not only because the guy didn't say what he implied he said but also even if he did say it the constitution still has already been determined to exclude most minors. Of course some minors are allowed on the social and scientific beliefs that they are mature and old enough to handle guns and have rights in certain cases especially with supervision. But kids should be able to shoot guns as long as they have a teacher or supervision. We should be teaching gun responsibility and use while kids are young so they could at the least vote reasonably. Most gun control supporters not only don't own a gun but they've never even shot one or learned from gun owners. You add in the logical fallacies that banning guns will save people and those people really shouldn't vote because they are uneducated. This is unrelated but anyone questioning crime rates and safety after outlawing guns in a state heavy in guns, look at Brazil. They're still facing the repercussions of taking guns from law abiding citizens, it's absolutely horrendous. It might not apply directly but it is likely it would happen here too. Its easy to see just how corrupt the police are in many areas of the US, and combine that with the same party that wants gun control as wants to "DEFUND police". If anything, we need to increase funding so we can pay for more quality policeman and better training. More like fund the police more and regulate them more. I'm not an ACAB, that's idiotic, the main issue that causes severe corruption is there isn't a standardized requirement. It's good to be skeptical and question police departments, but they are all completely different between departments. ACAB is harmful because it actually discourages good departments from spreading their ways and finding success and fulfillment in that environment. The studies show you treat someone or label them as a criminal or other bad guy, they do it even more even if they were angels beforehand. Just my thoughts and I'm open to discussing the issues. I'm just sick of all this uneducated bullshit straw man arguments going around by people who have no knowledge or logic regarding these situations. Its not that simple and it never will be. Anyone making absolute claims without explaining all potential outcomes positive and negative and then comparing them to make a final decision is hurting society wasting the space for educated messages and brainwashing people who don't think into confidently voting for something without actually thinking it through. That's unethical at best. Ironic that these gun control people feel they are the most ethical people sacrificing their rights to save lives when really they are unethically tricking others into voting without actually being able to think for themselves. Democracy requires people to be educated and voting used to even require you to be educated class. I'm not saying that was best or restrict voting because that's wrong, but I'm saying educate openly and fairly. You shouldn't have to argue your opinion and play on people's emotions. You should share the whole messages and all sides and if yours is right people will choose it.

The rest of the world is laughing at this statement!
He said something very scary. "Any deterrent, no matter how small, reduces the risk of a crime." Their idea of a crime is speaking your mind and defending yourself.
Nah, this is just his stupidity shining through. Note how even he admits that gun laws are only a “small deterrent” here, but fails to acknowledge a gun is a pretty freaking large deterrent. If we want every possible deterrent, arming people is a lot bigger a deterrent than gun control.
Words are violence and so is silence??, the smoothbrains think everything is violence probably why they keep saying theyre feeling "unsafe" constantly

The biggest problem with actors, comedians, and other celebrities voicing their political opinions so loudly, is that so many people are able to be influenced by personalities, rather than by the strengths and merits of the arguments being put forward.

Yup, most of these anti-gun celebrities are ironically protected by armed security and want only their security staff to be armed, so that way they can look down upon the poor and working class, laugh at their suffering, and not have to worry about them rising up against them.
If anyone wants to talk about gun control, just point them to Cuba.

@@nickabel8279 It's not so much playing games with what confiscate means but rather he's playing games the scale of guns in such a saying means. He's treating it as if when you say gun confiscation, you mean all guns are confiscated. You can have a country that strait up call it gun confiscation, and collects 99.99% of firearms leaving only a few well connected super wealthy people with a couple of guns, but because there are still people with guns then the guns were not confiscated since no one would have a gun if they confiscated guns.
You'll often playing the same game of scaling when they say "No one is coming after your guns" or (for some especially dumb anti's who really suck at the game) "No one is trying to ban guns". This really aged well now since he used Canada as the example of “gun registration doesn’t lead to confiscation”. Now Canada is calling to ban all Handguns 🤣
And to confiscate all AR-15’s.
The Canadians just switched to 3d printing them. xD
The handgun ban is the just latest BS trick Trudeau has pulled on legal gun owners. In, or around, 2019 (don't hold me to that year) he made over 2000 various long guns illegal with an Order In Council. No parliamentary debate and no facts to back up his decision. Never believe anyone who pushes for gun control when they tell you they're not coming for all of your guns. They're lying and they're not even really trying to hide it anymore.
Yep, one of the literal examples given of "see, you guys are using the slippery slope fallacy!" turns out to be a prime example as to the "the only logical conclusion is the slippery slope goal..." crowd. Only a comedian can be this hilarious without trying.

I have come around to the belief that if someone has served their time, paid their debt, and has completed probation or parole, they should have their 2nd Amendment rights. If they are a “dangerous child molesting murderous felon” then they shouldn’t be out of prison.
If you don’t trust them with a gun, why would you trust them with a knife, or a car, or a propane tank. I agree with you.
I can tell that I already love you. I ‘ve been lmao , it was a great comment and of course it meant dead serious. Keep on keeping on.
antpassalacqua I have been saying that for years. If they are too dangerous to own a firearm then they are too dangerous to be walking around freely in Society, whether they are armed or not.
Republicans should honestly overthrow the government and establish a theocratic dictatorship. Then, they should take the guns away from the people so they can't overthrow the new regime.

There was a critically acclaimed comedy special around 4 years ago that was essentially just 2 hours of a woman talking about how she was raped one time. Viewers panned it, critics held it up as a masterpiece. Can't remember the woman's name, unfortunately.

@@maxr.mamint8580 my point is just that these people shouldn't be allowed out of prison in the first place. That's the problem. The problem isn't "what if they got a gun!?" The problem is...what if they don't even need a gun? If you murdered and sexually abused someone, you should never step foot on our streets again.
As a God fearing Christian man, I'd defer to God's law when He instructed His people. These people must be put to death. I know that's harsh. But so is murder and sexual abuse. I trust God's judgment.
I’ve argued for ex felons to have rights...but if you don’t or can’t trust a felon, why is he allowed in our society. Only solution unfortunately is to have capital punishment. Victims of crimes shouldn’t have to pay criminals to live out their lives with 3 hots and a cot and if they permanently broke our trust, then we need permanent solution. In the prayer before executions we recognize the possibility of innocence. It’s a lousy reason to punish society while innocent people may still be in prison for 25 years instead of 8 then executed. Prison is longer even a deterrent when it’s better life than many have.
What if it was 3rd degree murder? Not all murders are morally equivalent. You have a natural right to defend yourself. Period. You don't lose your right to defend yourself just because you get convicted of a felony.

Back in the '70's gun safety was part of the grade school education. Gun hunter safety course was one of the best ways to educate teenagers about firearms and archery.
Seriously I feel like as many guns as there are in the US gun safety should be taught early in school. I am positive it would save so many lives.
@@vilneas6358 I agree!
Well nowadays public schools too busy prepping for the New World Order so they can't have strong toxic male masculinity being taught in schools anymore.
The dumb thing about this is while the elites THINK that gun control may ultimately succeed, this will have no bearing on Jesus' return, His power or the celestial weaponry of His saints (the Christian believers). Keep in mind that the first mention of a weapon in the Bible was the Cherubim with a celestial sword that turned every way. That sounds like an alien, technologically superior weapon.
Isaiah 2:4 shows the nations rebuked as disarming themselves
BUT, the saints themselves are armed while executing judgement over the world with a "sword" in hand..see Psalms 149:6-9
Psalms 149:6-9
[6]Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, 👉and a twoedged sword in their hand;👈
[7]To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
[8]To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
[9]To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
Back around 73 I took my hunter safety course. Three hours long all about gun safety. At the end we had to show we could shoot and aim on the range. What I really took away from the course was when the instructor told us half way through the course we were going to the range. He handed us 22 rifles as we walked by us and after the first one was handed out he made us stop. None of us had checked the rifle. He made us check and three of us had a spent round in the chamber. He repeated his instructions on checking a weapon when first handed to you. I'm 63 now and it still sticks with me.
Even more to the point, education about firearms and archery is not gun control! Only if said education becomes a firewall to gun ownership would it be a form of gun control. I would welcome a return to teaching many of the fundamentals in grade school... Firearm and hunting safety is just one subject, what about basic finance, basic cooking, first aid, and the principles of small engines, just to name a few?
Regarding point number one, children are not considered part of “the people” in the same way as adults. They don’t have all the rights, and they should not have all the rights. There are also historical analogues for restricting the rights of felons in many ways not just firearm ownership.

With regards to Canada's registry (set up by the Liberal government) ... First, it applied only to long guns, not pistols (note I am in no way justifying the program). Second, it was an utter failure, in part because many owners of those firearms - mainly farmers and ranchers - did not comply, particularly in the prairie provinces and especially in Alberta, where I am (proudly). Third, the registry was repealed in 2012 by the Conservative government and its records were destroyed. I will side note quickly that of the 199 homicide victims of those using a firearm in 2018, 72% of those deaths were by handgun, not a rifle or shotgun. Fourth, the current Liberal government's gun buy back program was initially proposed as mandatory ; it only became voluntary after significant pushback and has not passed, but that didn't stop the government from including sweeping gun control measures impacting legal owners and the banning of hundreds of models. The proposed legislation will die if it fails the Senate before an election is called after the summer break. Then, fingers crossed that the Conservatives win this fall, although I am not optimistic they will stand as firm as we'd like. We will fight on.
This guy didn't even answer the first question.
His argument relating to confiscation was not only brain dead, but certainly didn't age well. It makes me so sad how utterly stupid so many people in this country are. We're seeing a future idiocracy forming before our very eyes and the evil douches in charge are cheating to push it that way.
Seriously, just talk to Cubans. They'll explain why firearm confiscation leads to suffering.
People like this "comedian" will Never talk to people who escaped communist countries, because they're cowards and invested in their ignorance.
@@andresrodriguez3708 maybe in cuba but most european countries went to hell after ‘91... This is coming from someone who was a dumb teenager at the time and protested for independence in Moldova... A terrible mistake, communism was better.
@@andresrodriguez3708 Most of the Cuban ex-pats living in the US today are former collaborators with the violent, corrupt, and repressive Batista government that was overthrown by Fidel Castro. They thus have a vested interest in smearing the government that deposed them.
In Germany, Adolf HItler actually relaxed gun control laws after he took power. Yet he still managed to oppress the people. For every example you bring of gun control leading to oppression, I can give an example of the opposite (lack of gun control leading to oppression and gun control coexisting with freedom).
*It's almost as if descent into tyranny is based on more than just whether a country enacts common sense gun control regulations.*
But let's be honest, if you guys really cared about preventing tyranny, you would be protesting for expanded voting rights, extending voting rights to citizens of Washington DC and Puerto Rico, preventing the filibuster, etc. You would be focusing on tax reform and corporate regulation. Labor rights, and healthcare. You would be running for office.
You don't care about tyranny. You just wanna play with guns and not fill out paperwork. Grow up.

The comedian mentioned mandatory Gun registration in Bangladesh as if it's a good thing.
as a Bangladeshi, with a very strict gun registry and gun laws that were made under the British rule to keep non-british local bengalis from owning guns, I'm telling you that in this country there is NO militia, government via police and army have an iron grip over the country, no one can fight back again injustice, no one can effectively defend themselves when assaulted with illegal guns from the border or Knives, and homes are so easily robbed in middle-class to upper middle class homes. Gun ownership is VERY difficult here with a long waiting time, Outright extortionate weapons tax and MANDATORY handing over of weapons to the government without any cause needed. This is one of the reasons that a country of 180 million people is so easily ruled over by corrupt leaders, because the people of the nation have nothing to defend themselves, nothing to defend their homes. Law abiding, Patriotic people of this country are having their human rights violated, free speech virtually taken away, because the government doesn't allow guns more easily. And criminals get theirs as easy as making a simple phone call.

Short story:
In my early twenties, I worked in a multi-store operation for a hunting-fishing chain, in CA.
I was a sales associate, with two extra duties - I wanted to make management... So I managed 5 distribution streams representing 5 different major firearms manufacturers - to be left unnamed - in addition to working the retail gun counter. I also placed special orders for firearms we did not have in stock, and special orders for parts as well.
I can't tell you how many people came in with insufficient documentation - keeping in mind the already stringent requirements to purchase a firearm 20 years ago included having primary ID, secondary proof of residency (utility bill, vehicle reg., as a couple examples), and at the time a HSC (Handgun Safety Certificate) now a FSC (Firearms Safety Cert.).
That's now been one-upped by requiring Livescan and a Certificate of Eligibility... It gets worse, if you haven't purchased a firearm since 2014, you have to be live-scanned for Ammo Purchases.
When I sold guns, I had to be the messenger to multiple prospective owners, who would arrive after a 10-day wait, to find they'd been denied by DOJ. Boy, that was initially hard news to pass along, but, deflecting to the Cal DOJ - Firearms Bureau and providing their contact info helped mitigate some of the customers' frustration.
When I sold ammo, we had to maintain records of who we sold ammo to, by documenting their gov't issued IDs, and the quantity, brand, and caliber of ammo sold to that person - no restriction, they could buy a case - but it all had to be logged.
Fun Fact about ammo logs: 2x in 6 months, the local PD sent in Detectives to review our records, as they pertained to gun crimes and/or felons purchasing ammo (another Felony). From what I understand they were investigating crimes, Not checking the current status of our logs - they didn't have the mandate for that action, but times have changed. That was 20 years ago.
Now, Shockingly, last week, I was told I was not-eligible to purchase ammo for one of my dozen or so registered firearms, and had to get Live-scanned... Doesn't that seem like a contradictory behavior? State and Fed DOJ has the records, but when I want ammo, I have to go get ANOTHER backgrounds check?!
That is quite simply basic discrimination by socio-economic demographic.
Ridiculous.
I'm just going to get into reloading, this repeat backgrounds check and confusingly high fees from the state are an economic barrier to entry, aka acquisition of a firearm, as is the price of ammunition.
"You lock your door because any deterrent no matter how small reduces the likelihood of a crime" dude defeated his whole argument in one sentence, thanks! I'll keep carrying!
Its a cliche statement anymore but. When moments count the police are just minutes away. Nothings gonna stop someone from fucking with me or my family faster than 124 grains of high speed metal. Talk about a deterrant.
I said the exact same fucking thing. It would have been a great argument if he had a brain and said "Why buy a gun when you can buy a dog." BUT no it has to be a dumb argument made by an even dumber person.

It's funny that in Steve's third point he mentions "we lock our door, because every deterrent helps" yet fail to see Firearms as a deterrent to crime.
