It's not that Americans think it's impossible to stop, it's that we don't believe making people helpless and unable to defend ourselves is the way to do it.
You're rich, you can hire security guards to follow you around 24/7 most Americans don't have that privilege, so we own handguns, shotguns and AR-15's to protect our families from criminals and our country from tyrannical governments.
You may not like that, yet here you are in America making millions by giving us backhanded compliments and then trying to shame us because we won't bow to the daddy government and say please take our guns away from us and protect us.
    The Irony.

REAL EXPERIENCE: I came from Brazil to the US 2 years ago because Brazil turned into a huge criminal mess. This happened because of ONE REASON: in 2003 the federal gov disallowed people to have guns, limited caliber even for security guards and people that had proved the real need to keep a gun. After that, the crime in Brazil climbed a lot. My wife had a .38 in her stomach in the middle of the beach on a holiday with the place crowded. House invasions are pretty common there. Like, every day a house in the neighborhood is invaded. They make the whole family hostage and spank you and your kids. If you try to react, they kill you. They stole iPhones, cars, motorcycles... in the middle of the street. They point a gun in your head and tell you to shut up and give them everything. Do you know WHY? Because they know YOU don't have a gun. They know good people are not allowed to have guns. AND... in 2017, 2 guys made a mess shooting in a school. LAWS that disallow good people to have tools to protect themselves and protect their families, DO NOT WORK. Those who have the intention to commit these things will find ways to buy guns on the black market. Or even use another kind of weapon or a truck as happened in Nice, France.

The regular civilian has no way to protect himself or his family. And every civilian feel defenseless. Only military and cops which are bought ot threatened by the criminals is the ones with the guns. So you are at the expense of the bad ones hoping they just steal from you and leave. I just bought it because I like it and enjoy going to the range. It was also nice to have another option for defending my family. I don’t know what it will take to reduce these “mass shootings”, but I’m sure leaving law abiding citizens defenseless is not the answer. It's actually a pretty good comparison to use on an ignorant anti-gunner, because they consider driving a right and firearm ownership a privilege. Since they can't grasp that fundamental fallacy, you can use it to your advantage to explain, exactly how Colion did, the parallels between certain guns and certain cars or certain crimes with both.
For example, if someone wants to ban AR-15s because they "can" kill lots of people, then we should also ban sports cars because they *can* speed excessively. If someone wants to ban handguns because they're used in most crimes, then we should also ban large vehicles like pickups and SUVs because they're involved in the most accidents.
Then, when those cars are banned, and accidents continue, we'll ban the sedans, and on and on until everyone is driving a the same, State-mandated car, or all cars are banned from private use entirely.
Anyone sane can see the parallels there. If they don't, then they're a hopeless moron and there's no more point in arguing with them.
