  • Why are you not dilating / dilating so slow? The answer is: there can be many different reasons. So, in this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy & Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, explain the 10 most common reasons why you are not dilating or dilating very slowly.
First, they explain several reasons why you are not dilating or dilating very slowly that can apply no matter if you are in labor or not. To be precise, they explain why a lack of dilation, or a slow dilation, can be a problem of the cervix itself and why it is important to deal with it even before the problem of lack of dilation or slow dilation occurs.
Next, they explain why it could be the baby and baby’s position why you are not dilating or dilating so slowly.
Next, they discuss several reasons why you are not dilating or dilating very slowly which apply only once you are in labor. In particular, they discuss how things that you do or don’t do during your labor can slow down your dilation. And finally, they also briefly discuss how inadequate contractions can slow down your dilation and why sometimes, there is just no obvious reason for a slow or lack of dilation.

      @@kylenixontv Hi there! 😊
Varicose veins normally won't cause any problems during labor. In fact, normally, not even vulvar varicose veins cause a problem because such veins usually have a very low level of blood flowing through them. So, normally, there is no reason to worry about it.
That said, if your wife has "vulvar" varicose veins, we always recommend letting your midwife know so that she can take care of it during the delivery.
But again, normally, they don't affect labor the delivery of the baby.
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you, your wife and your baby!! ❤️

To all the mamas stressing about dilation: don't worry if you're not dilated at the end of your pregnancy. I gave birth to my first a few weeks ago and was not dilated at all according to my doctor. But once labor contractions started I dilated super quickly! Went from 4 to 10 cm within an hour and was shocked when they told me baby wants out now!
You never know exactly how things will go beforehand so don't worry too much.

I've been having early labour contractions on and off since 30 hours ago and am still only 2 cm dilated as of today, so this is good to know. My baby has been engaged for weeks and my ob/gyn said that I'm quite effaced, which wasn't the case last week. When trying to read up on it, I was reading a lot of "don't stress" and rest messages, but it looks like that was what backfired on me. That and the long bath, because I thought the relaxation would help. (Probably over-hydration too, because I habitually drink a lot more than most people I know.) To be fair, the doctor said that since it was night time for most of the more intense contractions, trying to rest was the right thing to do. I'm 38 weeks along and progress is being made, so I should probably just be patient at this point.

      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there 😊,
you are MOST WELCOME - we are happy if you find our videos helpful!
      Regarding your question:
When it comes to scientific studies, the results are mixed. There is only one bigger study which included some 400 women and says that the Aniball is super effective. However, from a statistical point of view, the study is not THAT reliable....
This means that we cannot reliably say if Aniball or Epi-No really make a difference. However, we cannot deny that, by now, we know lots of women who have used such products and either did not tear at all or only had a first degree tear.
Because of that, we even decided to include into our childbirth class where we show women how to apply the Aniball.
However, the Epi-No works in the exact same way, if you prefer that one...
      We hope this helps! 😊

      Hi there 😊,
first of all, thanks so much for your lovely feedback - it is very much appreciated! And we are very happy to hear that you find our content helpful!
A post-C-section diet should be as healthy as possible so that your body receives all the nutrients that it needs. So, if possible, add lots of vegetables and fruits to your diet. Also, have a few sips of pineapple juice every now and then to help with the healing process (except when you suffer from heartburn).
Keep in mind: when we say: healthy diet, we don't mean a low-caloric diet. Your body urgently needs the calories because breastfeeding requires lots of energy (and so does the healing process)...
So in brief: there is no particular diet that you have to eat. Just make sure that whatever you do it contains lots of nutrients for your body!
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

I think we have just the right video for you: czcams.com/video/A8_JTWASGHw/video.html
Also, we recommend that you get a second opinion (ideally from someone who is a VBAC expert). That's because sometimes, a baby only engages once the woman is in labor (it happens particularly often in second pregnancies). So we find it odd that your provider recommends a C-section straight away.

unfortunately no one is able to tell you for sure how much time it will take for you to go into labor... 😬
The only thing we can tell you is this: if a woman is already 2cm dilated in week 38, she NORMALLY does not need to worry about a spontaneous start of labor (particularly if baby is engaged too, as well as in a good position for labor).
Such women almost always go into labor spontaneously (mostly around or even before their due date). Of course, there can always be exceptions... However, we would not worry too much about it....

It's difficult to come up with good advice here! We tried acupuncture treatments in the past to deal with such cases. However, the treatment did not focus on labor induction, but on the depression itself It did help SOME women... So maybe, this is something that could work for you too?

unfortunately, some women are not able to dilate: Some don't dilate at all. Others cannot dilate to 10cm, even with contractions.
It is still quite unknown what actually causes it. And the strange thing is also that it does not necessarily happen in subsequent deliveries too.

Just because baby is 3.6kg does not mean that baby cannot engage, unless there is something odd with your pelvis...
Keep in mind: both, dilation and engagement, can also only just start once you are in labor. It does not necessarily have to happen before you go into labor.
Your baby is head down and faces your back. That's the most important thing...
So, please stop worrying! Trust that your body knows what it is doing.... 😊

      Hi there 😊,
please note that week 38 is still early days. Most women start to dilate by the end of week 38 or week 39. In fact, sometimes, a woman may not dilate at all before labor starts.
Therefore, please don't be worried too much about your dilation! There are also other things which are important, such as the position of your cervix. Trust that your body knows what it is doing!

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před rokem

      Hi there 😘,
they normally do recommend an induction in case of polyhydramnios (too high levels of amniotic fluid). That's because the baby is able to move around a lot in that case. So the chances of ending up in a not so optimal position is much higher.
Therefore, it is not uncommon to induce labor sometime between week 38 and 39 in case of polyhydramnios. But whether or not it is needed depends on your overall case. But this is something that only your doctor knows because only they are familiar with your pregnancy case.
So, if you believe that an induction is not justified in your case, we recommend getting a second opinion from another doctor! It's the only thing you can do really!
Finally: yes, there can be side effects from an induction, as always when it comes to medical interventions. Plus, they do not always work... And it is the duty of your doctor to inform you about these side effects BEFORE you make a decision. In fact, some of these side effects may be specific to your case (i.e. depending on your pregnancy case). If they don't do that, it is yet another reason to get a second opinion.
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there 😊,
first of all, please note that on average, a pregnancy lasts between 38 and 42 weeks. Everything within that range is considered "normal". So maybe, it's just too early for your body at this point...
Moreover, there are many factors which play a role here, such as the position of your baby and the state of your cervix!
That said, in general, several things could help induce labor:
In this video (czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html) we explain several tools to prepare the cervix for labor and to induce labor.
Moreover, birth ball exercises could help (czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html)
On top of that, the right sitting position can also support the whole process (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)
We really hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there,
first of all, thanks a lot for your feedback! 😊
Please note that a tingling sensation in a scar (no matter where that scar is located) is generally nothing uncommon. In fact, when you first feel it, is can be a sign that your scar is healing. Of course, only a doctor can tell you for sure where the tingling sensation is coming from. However, that's at least our experience...
Whether or not you can try for VBAC very much depends on other factors, such as the thickness of your uterine scar. We have recorded a video about this! Maybe you find it helpful: czcams.com/video/-re1_KCgKWI/video.html

      Hi there 😊,
do you experience strong contractions or are they just mild at this point? How far apart are they? 5min or rather longer, like 10min?
The other question is: do you know the position of your baby in your womb? If your baby is facing your front instead of your back, it often takes much longer to dilate because your baby's head does not apply well to your cervix.
      Looking forward to your reply!

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před rokem

      Hi there 😘,
a slow labor progress can often be related to baby's position. That's because it is not sufficient for baby to be head down. Ideally, your baby is also facing your back instead of your front. If baby does not, it can lead to a slow progress during labor. However, normally, you will still be able to have a normal delivery...
But of course, this is just one possible reason why there is a slow progress (although the most common one).
So, ideally, you try to identify the cause of your slow progress together with your midwife. And then actively support your baby with the help of labor positions....

if it's on and off contractions, then, technically, you are not in true labor. Only once your contractions become regular and come in certain intervals will you go into labor.
It is hard to tell why it's taking so long. But most of the times, it is because of baby's position.
