  • Is it possible to induce labor with the right sleeping position? Can it even help you speed up labor and get stronger contractions?
In this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy and Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, discuss the best sleeping positions to induce labor and to get stronger contractions.
First, they discuss the exact reasons why the right sleeping position is supposed to help you induce labor. To be precise, they explain how the best sleeping position can help your baby prepare for labor. And they also explain how your baby affects your cervix and thus your ability to go into labor spontaneously.
Next, they teach you in detail what the best sleeping position looks like if you want to induce labor.
Finally, they also discuss which sleeping position is the best if you are in early labor and if you want to get stronger and more regular contractions (given that you CAN sleep of course).

I haven't finished the video yet, but I think this is relevant:
When I was in labor with my first baby, right after transition (the most painful part, eek!) I was able to "sleep" almost entirely through active labor (the pushing part). I did not have an epidural.
I laid on my left side with my right leg propped up by a firm pillow. I woke up about 10 minutes before the baby crowned and the delivery was super easy from that same side lying position!
Because I "slept" through it, I don't remember any pain from active labor other than during the actual delivery (which I had some tearing near my inner labia, but not of the perineum, it was more like intense discomfort than pain)
Just wanted to say this for any interested mamas

      Hi there 😊,
we have really met lots of women and thus, we have heard lots of stories. However, never ever have we heard of someone who was able to "sleep" almost through their entire labor all the way until the baby crowned.
This is highly unusual, particularly given the fact that a lying position is not optimal for baby's descent (it DOES work too, don't get us wrong - but it is NORMALLY more difficult for the baby). But it seems that you have a particularly high pain tolerance....
So, we really want to thank you for sharing your story with us! It is yet another proof that every woman experiences labor in a different way.... 😊

unfortunately, we don't remember where we bought this exact model. However, the best pillows for this are "memory foam" pillows because they keep their shape.

However, this is just one possible model. There are lots of similar models out there that are also cheaper. So you really don't need to buy this exact model...

      Hi there 😊,
first of all, thanks so much for your lovely feedback! 🥰 We are really happy to hear it!
      Regarding your question:
We totally get that that makes you crazy! 😅
So, here is what we normally do: if we know that baby is in a good position (and by that we do not only mean head down, but also anterior with baby's chin tucked in), and if - in that position - baby keeps disengaging, then we
      1. help the baby engage: czcams.com/video/A8_JTWASGHw/video.html
      2. once engaged, we try to "increase" the engagement by
      a. deep squats during the day (see same video above)
      b. adopting the sleeping position from the video you commented on without the pillow between the legs. So you basically give your baby less room to move around.
If you know that baby is engaged and in a good position, you also don't need to adopt the sitting position that we explain here: czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html
Instead, you can actually enjoy sitting on the sofa! 😁
Please note: this SHOULD help. But based on what's going on in there in terms of baby's size, size of pelvis, placenta etc. this does not always help.
Some babies just love to move around in there until the very last minute. However, we NORMALLY observe that such babies almost always end up in the right position eventually...
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and baby no 3!! ❤️

      Hi there 😊,
please note that on average, a pregnancy lasts between 38 and 42 weeks. Therefore, it may still be too early for your body... It very much depends on your cervix and the position of your baby.
That said, in general, several things could help induce labor:
In this video (czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html) we explain several tools to prepare the cervix for labor and to induce labor.
Moreover, birth ball exercises could help (czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html)
On top of that, the right sitting position can also support the whole process (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)
We really hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️
P.S.: Deep squats will not make your cervix dilate...

    Hi Natalie and Mathias,
Been watching your videos for quite sometime now and absolutely love your content.
A quick query, hoping you have some interesting insights to share. I am currently 40 weeks and 1 day pregnant with my first baby. I have been having false pains for a few days now but nothing more. Baby is not yet engaged (which honestly concerns me) Hoping to deliver naturally. Cervix is soft but not dilated. Baby is cephalic and longitudinal. Kindly help me out with any insights you might have especially regarding the non engagement. Can I still go into labour if my baby isn’t engaged? Or not? Also just for added info I have been doing exercises like duck walk, butterfly and deep squats( sitting) but nothing yet. I am not looking forward to getting induced. Want my labour to start naturally but the baby’s head not being fixed definitely is a concern.
    Thankyou for your time.

      Hi there 😊,
first of all, thanks a lot for your lovely feedback! We are very happy that you find our content helpful! 😊
      Regarding your questions
Sometimes, babies engage very late in a pregnancy. Some babies even only engage once labor has started. So engagement is NOT a factor that should concern you. Your contractions will help you with that, once they have started.
That said, sometimes, women whose baby is not engaged find it a bit more difficult to go into labor spontaneously. This is mostly because when baby is engaged, the pressure of the head on the cervix helps with the dilation - and a spontaneous start of labor.
However, this does not mean that you cannot go into labor if your baby is not engaged... We see women go into labor with unengaged babies every day....
When it comes to exercises, deep squats are the only exercises that can help engage the baby. However, even if they don't work, it's still not a reason to be concerned.
We have had women go into labor spontaneously with 0 dilation and 0 engagement of the baby.
Therefore, please do not worry at this point! These things can happen REALLY fast!!
Exercises are the best thing you can do right now (if your doctor approves). Apart from that, try to relax as good as possible!
Always remember that - at the end of the day - all that matters is that a healthy mother holds a healthy baby in her arms...
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

Also I've been watching yalls videos for ways to dilate lol so 🤞🤞🤞 i know if my body isn't ready, it won't work. I just really hope I dilate within 5 more days! This is my 1st & I'm soooo anxious about everything!

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi there 😊,
please note that just because you feel your baby mostly on your left side does not mean that you cannot have a normal delivery. Oftentimes, a baby's torso is not "perfectly aligned" with the mother's body which is okay as long as baby is head down. Some babies love to lie more on the left, others on the right side.
The only thing that CAN happen is that baby's head may not be well-applied onto your cervix (at this point), particularly if baby is not yet engaged. And when this happens, it can be more difficult for the cervical changes to take place at the end of a pregnancy.
Please don't get us wrong though: they WILL happen eventually, no matter baby's position. All we are saying is that the process may take a bit longer because there is not enough pressure from your baby's head.
But again, none of this means that you cannot have a normal delivery. It would probably just happen "a bit later".
But you really don't need to worry. We have come across similar cases very often. They all ended up having normal deliveries and healthy babies! 😊
The 2 best things in such situations are normally:
      - birth ball exercises: czcams.com/video/X3sOObqZHrY/video.html (they help baby find a better position and they also help with the cervical changes)
      - sitting in certain positions (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)
      - and of course everything else we teach here in order to help prepare the cervix for labor (but not induce labor): czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there 😊,
first of all, thanks so much for your sweet comment! We are very happy to hear that you like our content!
      Regarding your question:
Please note that week 37 is still very early days for labor to start! On average, a pregnancy lasts between 38 and 42 days. Everything within that range is considered "normal".
Moreover, keep in mind that in later pregnancies, things can often go really fast. You don't experience any signs of labor for weeks and then suddenly everything goes really fast.
So, right now, the best thing to do is relax! If your baby is in the right position and engaged, you don't need to worry about the start of labor. It WILL happen. You just have to be patient! Your body knows exactly what it is doing!
In the meantime, if your doctor allows you, you could do birth ball exercises (czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html), sit in a "good" position (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html) and again, try to relax as good as possible!

However, please note that a low lying placenta is not ALWAYS a problem. It depends by which extent it covers the cervix..... Maybe your doctor can say more about this....

      Hi there 😘,
if you are 2cm dilated even before labor starts, that's already great! So, clearly, your body DOES prepare for labor. Please don't worry too much about your dilation though! Your contractions will take care of it once labor starts!
Also, please note that things can sometimes go quite fast, particularly when this is not your first baby. It is not uncommon for such women to not see or feel anything for the longest time and then suddenly, they go into labor and everything happens really fast....
So, hang in there! Maybe today is the day! Maybe tomorrow! Just please don't forget to try your best to relax! It is SO important during these final days of your pregnancy.... "Let go" as far as possible! Your body will do the rest!
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there 😘,
because of the high level of fluids, we don't recommend doing these exercises...
We are not gonna lie to you: it is not easy to turn a breech baby given the level of fluids in your body. However, the good news is that the level normally decreases later in a pregnancy. Therefore, please don't give your hopes up that your baby is still gonna turn...
If a woman cannot do any exercises, we normally do moxibustion alone, while the woman is in a left side lying position (which is basically the best sleeping position to turn a breech baby which we explain in this video: czcams.com/video/L0Fb_HdBtog/video.html plus moxibustion).
We normally do this twice a day for 30min. We explain moxibustion in this video czcams.com/video/e-kh6nxGkCk/video.html.
To be clear: you would not do the exercises, just moxibustion while lying in a left side-lying position....
We did turn a few babies with this strategies. However, most of them did not suffer from any issues related to the amniotic fluid...
Still, maybe it will help you too?
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před rokem +5

      Hi there Nila 😊,
in general, it can absolutely happen that your water breaks before contractions start. However, this is normally not a reason at all for a C-section UNLESS this happens while your baby is still premature. Because in that case, it's important to get that baby out of there fast.
But if your baby is no longer premature, then what normally happens is this: your water breaks, then contractions start within 24 hours. If they don't start, they normally recommend to induce you (although there is not enough scientific evidence to suggest that inducing labor is the better option in this case).
Therefore, you don't need to be afraid! Your water normally does not break before it is time to happen. And if it does, you would normally go into labor all by yourself.
If in that situation anyone tells you that you need a C-section, we strongly recommend that you get a second opinion!
      We hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there,
based on what you describe here, we really don't see a reason for an induction and particularly not for a C-section. Based on what you describe here, it seems like you are about to go into labor... So it would not be a surprise if you would go into labor anytime soon now. 😊
That said, given your pregnancy history, we really do recommend that you stay in close contact with your doctor! Inform your doctor or midwife about everything that happens!
We say this because we don't know what caused your pregnancy to end in your first pregnancy. Therefore, it is important that you inform your doctor about everything you observe.
Please don't think that you get on your doctor's nerves! They are here for that! It's their job to make sure that you deliver your baby safely this time!
But again: if the circumstances are normal, we would not be surprised if you go into labor very soon now....

That said, in general, several things could help induce labor:

On top of that, the right sitting position can also support the whole process (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)

      Hi there 😊,
we totally understand that you are nervous! In fact, it is totally normal to be nervous, particularly given the fact that you are still very young and this is your first baby. We met moms who gave birth to baby number 10 and were still nervous...
However, there is really no need to be worried! 😊 Clearly, your body IS preparing for labor if you have been experiencing braxton hicks contractions for more than 2 weeks now.
Also, if you are doing all these things to prepare your body for labor, that's great! That's all you can do! The rest is up to your body (and baby), as we only have limited control over the process.
Keep in mind: on average, a pregnancy lasts between 38 and 42 weeks. Maybe it's still too early for you.
There are a couple of things that you could try as well, like acupressure, reflexology or nipple stimulation (see this video: czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html).
However, in general, our advice is to stop worrying! 😊 Fears and worries can interfere with labor hormones. You don't need them!
Your body knows what it is doing! It is made for this! So trust your body a little! You WILL go into labor! It's just a matter of time....

Moreover, there are also other factors which play a role, such as the position of your baby! So, it would be great if they could tell you, if your baby is not only head down but also faces your back...
That said, in general, several things could help induce labor:
In this video (czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html) we explain several tools to prepare the cervix for labor and to induce labor.
Moreover, birth ball exercises can help (czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html)
And finally, the right sitting position can also support the whole process (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)
We really hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there,
we are not 100% sure if we understood everything you told us, but we just try our best to give you an answer:
IN GENERAL, it is absolutely possible to have a VBAC after a C-section. But whether or not YOU are a good candidate for VBAC, depends on many factors, such as the thickness of the uterine scar. We talk about these factors in this video: czcams.com/video/-re1_KCgKWI/video.html
So, normally, we would tell you to talk with your doctor about it because only they can determine if you are a good candidate for VBAC. Now, apparently, you have done that already and it seems that your doctor DOES believe that you are good candidate for VBAC.
When that's the case, it's your decision whether or not you would like to try a VBAC or not. But basically, if your doctor suggests VBAC, it means that they believe you are capable of delivering a baby vaginally. Therefore, we would not worry too much about uterine rupture.
Of course, when you deliver a baby vaginally after a C-section, there is ALWAYS an increased risk of uterine rupture. But if your doctor says you can have a VBAC it means that they believe that that risk is low.
Finally, please keep in mind that the alternative is a C-section. And a C-section comes with its own specific risks. In other words, it is not free of risk either.
Does this answer help you? 😊

      Hi there 😊,
we totally understand that you cannot imagine how a head is supposed to come through down there. However, be assured that it's not gonna be a problem! Your vagina is very elastic and it will gradually be stretched by your baby's head. So, please don't worry about that at all!

My cervix length is 2.4 in last day's scan. .. doctor said I might go into labour as uterus is opening up and advised bed rest. . took injection also to increase my baby's lung capacity if delivery happens. So is this short cervix a major reason for premature delivery??? Will they keep my baby in NICU ??? WHAT all precautions shud i take ???? If i deliver in the beginning of 9 th month, will that be also premature......please reply. Loads of thank u in advance. Love from India,

      Hi there 😘,
thanks a lot for sharing this with us!
But before we even answer, we have a question for you: if your doctor is concerned that your cervix dilates too early and suspect a cervical weakness, why do they not recommend a cerclage? It is a common treatment to treat cases when the cervix starts to dilate too early...
A cerclage basically involves cervical stitches in order to prevent that the cervix can dilate too early. And then they are gonna remove it once you are close to your due date.
Has your doctor discussed this option with you?
Please note: if you do deliver your baby now or at the beginning of the 9th month, your baby will be premature. And yes, they will have to keep your baby in NICU.
So, the only thing you can do is bedrest right now. And please do talk with your doctor about a cervical cerclage!
      We hope this helps!
We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

      Hi there 😊,
      basically yes!
So, preferably, you try a left side-lying position. However, research has shown that a right side-lying position is also possible and that it does not increase the risk for the baby.
      We hope this helps! 😊

      Hi there 😊,
assuming that your baby is in a good position for labor (i.e. facing your back instead of your front), there are several things that could help:
In this video (czcams.com/video/8rehbupwhzY/video.html) we explain several tools to prepare the cervix for labor and to induce labor.
Moreover, birth ball exercises could help (czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html)
On top of that, the right sitting position can also support the whole process (czcams.com/video/K5uxfr0YJ_E/video.html)
Please keep in mind though that we normally start with these things already in week 37 (except from Castor oil and nipple stimulation). So, it really depends on your body and how it responds to the tools and techniques that we explain here...
Also, please always ask for your doctor's approval first before you try exercises or Castor oil! Only they know your specific pregnancy case....
We really hope this helps! 😊
We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes

@@heershah7621 That is quite a surprising argument from your doctor....
If it was true that the weight plays a role in a baby's capability to endure labor, then it would mean that no premature baby would be able to survive labor. And yet, every day, lots of premature babies are born, many of them with a weight of less than 2kg...
Honestly, we strongly recommend that you see another doctor!
