  • This deer has been visiting our backyard for over a year now with a broken leg. It is painful to watch. I'm amazed that it hasn't been eating by coyotes or wolves since it is disabled. At first, she was visiting alone but at some point mated and now has a daughter (fawn) who acts as her guard and watches out for her.

It made me pause to figure out why that red barn was moving. 🤣

Had a 3-legged deer we nicknamed Gimpy last year that came by our neighborhood and seemed to get along pretty well despite his disability. We were always concerned that one day he wouldn't be able to escape whatever threat was imminent. Eventually he just stopped coming. Never heard what happened to him.

I’m a deer hunter but I feel bad when I see deer or other animals suffering like that

She probably didn't make it through the winter coyotes

She hobbled around here like this for almost 2 years before disappearing or being hit by a car. Not sure which happened because many deer get hit by cars on my road and it's hard to keep track of them all.

Long ago now, I saw a deer herd moving along a woods easily. To my shock one doe had three legs!! A hind leg was snapped clean off at the hock. It was all healed up and she just went about as usual, no impediment. Can’t figure out how that happened!

Very interesting! After this dear was no longer showing up, another dear came with the opposite front leg dangling. I'm thinking they get injured running through the snow and rough terrain (potholes) in the woods.

If it weren't that there's a cost to everything (and I'm not volunteering to pay), I'd suggest that both these deer be tranquilized and the mother's leg mended by a vet while her baby keeps her company.

Oddly enough, this deer lived to have 2 fawns together later on. One of the fawns was hit by a car I believe near my home. The other grew up to watch over her mother and we called her "Tuffy" because she acted tough and kept a watchful eye out. We have not seen "Gimpy" for quite some time now, over a year...

@@itiswhatitis5132 they usually don't make it long after an injury like that sadly. If a coyote or cougar didn't get her, she could of easily fell down a hill or Nything

@@FunnyLottery This dear roamed around the area with its broken leg for almost 2 years. We couldn't believe that could survive very long like this without being eaten by something.

@@itiswhatitis5132 yeah that's an extremely long lifespan for a broken leg I felt so bad watching it's leg just fold under it 😞😓 I might of put it down honestly, not knowing it would make 2 more years!
