  • Tried exploring new water with my buddy alex, but plans were foiled by many factors, eventually found some nice rainbow and brown trout to catch on the fly rods. enjoy

    I've been to NZ twice but never a strictly fishing vacation. You inspired me to buy a ticket and get my arse on a plane! i'm officially headed to Queenstown on Sunday for 10 days! beyond thrilled! i'm self employed and a bit spontaneous, it works great for this sorta thing. Let me know if by chance youre in that area and up for a day of fishing. as you say....Cheers Mate!

      Hi bro na I am in the north island. Hope you have a good trip down there. Get yourself a guide for the first day or 2 it will probably greatly improve you success. Have a good trip

      Had a blast...and a few hangovers. plenty of fishing to be had but one day in particular. 5-6-7lb on the Oreti in southland. Damn those fish are tough to catch! lost the 10lb i was dreaming of but a good trip non-the-less. I may look you up on the North next "winter". Tight lines bud! Keep the videos coming, its the only thing that keeps me alive in this shit.

    Awesome video. The rain and snow over here on the east coast of the US has caused the fishing to be extremely difficult if not unfishable with the high water. Can’t wait to get back out

    One of the things of my bucket list is to go to New Zealand to fly fish for trout it’s unfortunate it is as far away as physically possible from me 🤦🏼‍♂️

      @@TroutHuntingNZ wish the trout fishing was just as good here in the States, but too many catch and cookers out there! I'm lucky to know some landowners who let me fish on their land 💯🐟🎣 want to keep spreading the idea of catch and release, because too many big youtubers are currently pushing this catch and cook idea and it's so annoying, would much rather be in NZ right now 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Is there catch and cook problems in NZ as well or not really? Guess since theirs less people means more fish

    Hi Gareth, forgive a silly novis but can you explain soft tackle when fly fishing. ?

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey man not silly at all. “Soft Hackle” is a type of fly. It’s normally a very small unweighted fly with a hen hackle collar.

    Why do you prefer browns over rainbows?
    Also, you seem to always sight fish or swing. Don’t you think you are missing a lot of fish in the broken water?

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  Před 5 lety

      Yep I walk past heaps of fish probably but I would rather find one to sight fish to. I do blind fish likely spots but would rather see them. Browns are less common up here so I really like catching them and there generally a bit more trick to catch then a rainbow that smashes everything

      @pierevojzola9737 Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, Brook Trout or Brook Char were introduced to NZ in 1877 and I have seen them in the Blue Lake in Rotorua. Never heard of anyone specifically fishing for them as the chance of hooking into a steelhead takes precedence in these parts.

    I was wondering if you could help me! I have a fly rod which says 6-7lb line on it, and I have WF7 line. What size of reel do I need, like 6/7 or 7/8 etc

    • @tussk.
      @tussk. Před 5 lety

      The rod doesnt say 6-7lb line, it means its rated for a 6/7wt line. You should use a 7wt line in order to properly load the rod, and you need a 7/8wt reel. That will balance the rod and give you plenty of room for backing line.

    • @gus_mcg
      @gus_mcg Před 5 lety

      tusskmusic ordered a reel earlier and some backing reel is 6/7 I’m sure it will be fine for my WF7 line also

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  Před 5 lety

      Try both a 6 and 7 wt line and see which one you like better. Then by the what ever reel you like and best balance for rod. But probably get the 6-7 reel if you like the 6wt line.

    Why oh why do you handle the fish so much? Film them in the water in the net, but please no unnecessary handling. Handling damages fish.

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  Před 5 lety

      Na mate the fish I handle are fine, I have caught the same fish 7 times from the same pool Over the years. And there is not a mark on her. So you just worry about you.
