As a guy from the southern U.S. I'm impressed with your southern accent. Goodonya mate! 😎
Those guys telling you that just have slow reaction times 😂 always great content Garrett. Thanks for making me want to relocate to NZ lol
Nice work homeslice, always provides the goods like normal!
Excellent underwater shots on those rainbows! Love seeing that graceful action. Well done, sir.
Having watched several of your videos it is clear to me that you know exactly what you are doing. Unfortunately, there are always those that think they know better than the people that they are sitting and watching. I think the reason is low self-esteem or something related, to tell the truth.
I just left a comment with advise lol but I grew up there so it’s ok
That NZ strike indicator is on point man...... blends perfect with the bubbles! Let the haters hate, you’re a beast. Keep on doing you brodda!
Welcome back! Great work as always
Great video bro - thanks for the effort you put in to making them!
After watching as many of your videos as I have , you clearly don't know what your doing lol your a straight Slayer bro and love the content !!! All the way from Canada
awesome video man! just got back into trout fishing again and its been great haha look forward to more action for sure haha plus ur uploads too lol
Kicking ass again! Awesome video, keep up the hard work!
Love the videos man! Keep it up!
It’s only just another bloody awesome video by garret🤙🤙🤙🤙
You should make a video listing your favorite fly lines for different techniques and rod set ups. I would appreciate it, please and thank you.
You should take a collection and shoot each of the fly fishing tackle separately so that more people can understand and fall in love with them. Recommend more products and brands for your fans.
Rodger 🤙🤙

Hi Garrett James here from Ireland still enjoying to watch you catching great fish on the fly . I like spinning but loves the way you produce your show . I'll sent a private message on this to show you my gear took it all out last week thanks for getting back to me before appreciated.
Your technique is natural. Nice work.
I’m glad I found your channel! Amazing fish!
Thanks mate
Great video keep up the great work
another great video garret thanks for the uploads man I cant fish currently bc of my accident but I'm going through some old clips. And I caught a big brown trout on my fly rod. cant wait to upload it to my channel. thanks for the inspiration man I really appreciate it.. love watching you catch fiisshhh
Thanks heaps bro
Get well soon
That water is beautiful man!!!
Haha, good accents. The bag packing problems surely were food & coffee related. Thanks for the awesome videos.
Hahah cheers.. and I hope so
You are a damn good fisherman and there is a reason for a little slack so as not to influence the drift, which is right on, ignore the know it all's and stick to what you know. Excellent videos, keep up the good work from an old guide..
Fish pie and coffee love yah work mate
I get what you mean about natural drifts when drifting under an indicator - i was always taught to keep in contact with your flies by minimising as much slack as you can, but i guess it's different styles.
Hey bro that was me and my mate jay that you met. Love the vids keep them up!
Nice meeting you mate🤙
Love the vids man, your the jon b. Of trout fly fishing
Cheers mate 🤙
Great video.
Cheers mate
Awesome video as always!! Quick question, I've heard you talk about the Loop "Q" rod in the 6 weight, have you fished the 5 weight at all?? If so, any preference? Cheers!!
Always feel good to prove the 'experts' wrong by catching a lot of fish the 'wrong'way doesent it:) good stuff as usual:)
Looks to me you’re an expert fisherman, and I’ve been fishing for 25 years.
Cheers mate
Sick video
Like your content 👌 Best wishes from Germany
Cheers mate
What kind of net are you using? I love the scale built in part! Btw great quality videos bro I enjoy watching your fishing trips, as always tight lines!
Garret, how offten do you change yor strike indicator? I've started use a bubble because wool was after three/fuor casts totaly wet. But the other hand, the bubble makes a terible noise. I am thinking start to use a euro nymphing sighter. Have you ever used this?
Your slack is perfect bro I’d like to come share a few ideas on tying my wife wants to learn
I visited New Zealand in 2018, out of all the flies I used, Hare and Copper caught every fish.
It’s the juice that fly
What line are you useing as it seems to go out good and straight ?
The euro nymphing princesses will complain about slack on the water. In the US (and New Zealand) when indicator fishing you must have line on the water...
What head were you using while swinging? Are those fish willing to come up and play or, do you need to be deep when swinging? Just curious.
Lol you catch a lot of fish for someone who fishes with "too much slack"
NZ Nymphing is so different but i really like it.
Cheers s
When is the "dead period" on the T? Fished the SI and the nearby Rangatiki early last March and did well til' I got to the T. Granted, only fished one pool for a couple hours, but saw no other fishers and no fish?
You sould go to the san juan now that is some micro stuff
'nother great vid
Noticed how quickly you remove and set up your GoPro for a selfie when you catch a nice fish. Could you share what tripod or set up you use that lets you do this?
I live in alaska and here its known as a buck and hen. Jack's are considered to be young salmon.
Denny Doyle same here fishing I fish the Great Lakes I remember the first video of his that i watched I was confused when he called a buck rainbow a Jack I guess they have different terminology in New Zealand!
You should post the CZcams links of your critics channels so we can critique their fishing style!
You're a real pro G...you don't need any instruction as you need that natural flow presentation in the currents. Keep those awesome videos coming. I'm ready for another NZ go, how far away are you from Christchurch? I had a guide there but forgot his name
Gareth is in the Central North Island, Taupo. Christchurch is roughly half way down the South Island.
Ok thank you
Gareth, you mention that these are the same genetics as the Great Lakes. So are those migratory Bows coming out of a landlocked lake?
Nice one Gareth, always awesome to find a pod and get to fish it by yourself (a rare thing on the Tongariro). I think the people talking about 'haters' in the comments isn't justified. Nobody is being abusive etc, just engaging with the channel which is what it's all about. Plus they are channeling that stupid Taylor Swift song.
From my perspective, I've sometimes thought you and Alex would both save having to do so much instant line stripping and backward stepping on hook up if you held the rod a little closer to the water - I reckon you can do that without changing the drift (totally get the necessity to have slack line on the water to account for the weird current lines, not dragging the indicator etc). Anyway, you certainly get plenty of great fish.
What weight rod are you using?
You're saying the same thing a euro-nympher says: depth and drift, so there's no point in commenter's hating on euro-nymphing, those only come from ignorance of the technique.
I've been watching you for years, and the amount of big fish that you pull in, nobody can argue with it. Euro nymphing riffles would produce more fish in those areas, but what you do with an indicator rig in other water types can't be argued with.
Like y suscripción bonito video 😉
Trying to cut you some slack... but your net set-up does my head in! I use a mag clip on the top of my net, so that it hangs from my vest handle down. Then a small retracting clip onto my belt. Just reach back and grab the handle, and it doesn’t matter if you drop it. With the handle down, the net doesn’t catch in the bushes so bad.
Hey mate mag clips don’t work well around here as the is some much iron sand and they fill up and don’t hold well. Also the amount of bush bashing I do they are always popping off. Trust me I have tried it all this is what is working at the moment.
One of the best rivers in NZ but not my favourite has to be the TT
Great video I am loving the under water stuff.
Thanks for sharing.
why do you have 3 poles in your car though ?
barbless?
It's maybe a good idea to carry a bag of nuts in your backpack. I do so in order to avoid being hungry/undersugared when fishing a little away from the car.
Try setting the hook 5 times, takes concentration to remember to do it but seldom will you lose the fish.
Willow grubs snd tiny tiny glow bugs
Where is this I’m in NZ
North Island
Yes in tamahere
@@benjamindippenaar2101 I think what Kane meant was that the Tongariro and Hinemaia are both in the North Island, Taupo tributaries. Two of the most highly fished rivers in NZ. if you're near Hamilton, you can be on the Tongariro in about 2 hrs 15. Mid winter, you can have a great full day of fishing and be home by 7.30.
Yeah near Hamilton and will convince my dad to take me to the tongariro lake or lake otoumanaku near taupo
How is the weed in NZ??? 😆 if good I'm down!
Love you Videos! What's your setup! Reel looks awesome!
Cheers mate the reel is a Loop Q it’s a dope reel
@@TroutHuntingNZ Thanks for the reply! Is the Loop an New Zealand product? And I would love to fish just one of your Rivers out there! Fantastic Trout!
You need that slack. Ignore them .
It's funny regarding the "tight line" fishers...I'd like to see the way the drift a dry fly with a tight line...we call that "motor boating" your fly when it leaves a wake behind it as your "tight line" drags it across the water surface... slack lines provide a natural, uninfluenced drift...pretty simple...Maybe a slack line presents too much of a reaction challenge for these boys...
No...keep all influence off the line....drift it slack. Cheers
These tight line euro nymphers giving you trouble lol
i guess to much slack in your line didnt count tell the pros to come down and show you how its done lol
you have too much slack on the line dude!
You mentioned not recalling what we call male/female fish. A female is a hen, we call a male a buck.
I've always heard rooster/male and hen/female in the northeastern US
Probably just Townys who sit out at the pickerd fence who think they know it all lol new ways of fishing aren't created by fishing the way everyone else does
No three people fish the waitahanui bridge pool the same way and it shows
If you are catching fish, you're not doing shit wrong.
Cheers
what up? that's not even a sentence.
Bro do you even sentence?
