    Having watched several of your videos it is clear to me that you know exactly what you are doing. Unfortunately, there are always those that think they know better than the people that they are sitting and watching. I think the reason is low self-esteem or something related, to tell the truth.

    Garret, how offten do you change yor strike indicator? I've started use a bubble because wool was after three/fuor casts totaly wet. But the other hand, the bubble makes a terible noise. I am thinking start to use a euro nymphing sighter. Have you ever used this?

  • @thor_6886
    @thor_6886 Před 5 lety

    Nice one Gareth, always awesome to find a pod and get to fish it by yourself (a rare thing on the Tongariro). I think the people talking about 'haters' in the comments isn't justified. Nobody is being abusive etc, just engaging with the channel which is what it's all about. Plus they are channeling that stupid Taylor Swift song.
    From my perspective, I've sometimes thought you and Alex would both save having to do so much instant line stripping and backward stepping on hook up if you held the rod a little closer to the water - I reckon you can do that without changing the drift (totally get the necessity to have slack line on the water to account for the weird current lines, not dragging the indicator etc). Anyway, you certainly get plenty of great fish.

    @davidmackinnon6372 Před 5 lety

  • @Jaimelapoesie
    @Jaimelapoesie Před 5 lety +2

    You're saying the same thing a euro-nympher says: depth and drift, so there's no point in commenter's hating on euro-nymphing, those only come from ignorance of the technique.
    I've been watching you for years, and the amount of big fish that you pull in, nobody can argue with it. Euro nymphing riffles would produce more fish in those areas, but what you do with an indicator rig in other water types can't be argued with.

    Trying to cut you some slack... but your net set-up does my head in! I use a mag clip on the top of my net, so that it hangs from my vest handle down. Then a small retracting clip onto my belt. Just reach back and grab the handle, and it doesn’t matter if you drop it. With the handle down, the net doesn’t catch in the bushes so bad.

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  Před 5 lety

      Hey mate mag clips don’t work well around here as the is some much iron sand and they fill up and don’t hold well. Also the amount of bush bashing I do they are always popping off. Trust me I have tried it all this is what is working at the moment.

    It's funny regarding the "tight line" fishers...I'd like to see the way the drift a dry fly with a tight line...we call that "motor boating" your fly when it leaves a wake behind it as your "tight line" drags it across the water surface... slack lines provide a natural, uninfluenced drift...pretty simple...Maybe a slack line presents too much of a reaction challenge for these boys...
