  • @stefpix

    This is great, being 2.8 it allows a crop frame camera to compete with full frame A7C +24-105 f/4 . A comparison would be interesting to see if A7C+24-105 at ISO 1600 compares to A6400+17-70 at ISO 800. I just got in December a Nikon Z5 +24-200 for travel. really happy with it (beautiful viewfinder). I have the Sony 16-55 f2.8, bit image stabilization, close focus and longer range make this an amazing lens. Travel, lifestyle assignments, portraits, fashion. Also this Tamron is better and more competitive than the Sony 16-70 f4. Also wider and more versatile than Sony A7x+ Tamron 28-200.

    I have the sony and was about to regret it until your final comparison. Thanks for that. If I were buying now, it would be a hard decision (I do have a stabilized body a6500). That $500 difference, the VC and the 70mm long end are pretty compelling arguments. Tamron's got a winner. I'm glad that we have some good choices now. Great review!

    I recently picked up a 6100 (silver/black version which looks very nice) over the holidays to compliment my full frame Sony bodies. I wanted to have something small and compact that I can carry with me on less demanding tasks and trips. This is a workhorse lens that fills a gap in the aps-c lineup at a good price.
    I’m using my full frame lenses interchangeably but OSS is missing on many of them and no IBIS on the 6100. This is a godsend for darker environments and now on my wishlist. Thanks for the review.

    I just bought this lens for my A6400 and can't wait to start shooting video and close up photos! For the price this lens is a beast. I own 2 tamron lenses 1 for sony and 1 for canon and they are amazing for the price. In all honesty the quality is really good and so far no client of mine has had any complaints about their photos. Tamron is a great company with some great prices for the quality of both image and lens. I definitely recommend their products to beginners and pros.

    I have a 6600 with the IBIS so I realize the VC in this lens is great but I bet that adds a lot of heft. It's a rather heavy lens compared to the sony 16-55. I need an all-in-one for backpacking and I'm strongly leaning towards this. Decisions decisions!

  • @oconobee
    @oconobee Před 3 lety +1

    It's interesting to hear how several people have been tripped up with the focus ring and zoom ring between this Tamron and the Sony 16-55G lens when Sony's very own 70-350G lens has the Zoom ring on the outside and the focus ring on the inside like this Tamron.
    I use the Sony 70-350G lens quite a bit and its Zoom and Focus rings are identical to this Tamron lens which is great news for me, because I get tripped up going from it to the Sony's 55-210 lens which seems to be similar to the 16-55G.

  • @MichaelCartyIreland
    @MichaelCartyIreland Před 3 lety

    Really good video. You touched on a topic that I have been considering for a while. I have a small streaming business and want to add another camera. I currently have a Sont a6400 with a good selection of lenses. I have been thinking about getting another a6400 wit this lens (Tamron 17-70mm f2.8) or the Sony A7C with the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8. I think comparing these two setups, with test footage, etc, would be a great video. How would both setups compare under low light conditions for video work? How much more stable is the A7C footage thanks its IBIS? I was leaning towards the A7C setup, but Im now leaning back towards to a6400 setup because of this (Tamron 17-70mm f2.8) lens with its image stabilisation. If you decide to do this video, please use real scenes for low light. I dont think that point both camera at an object in a poorly lit room is a good test and most real life tests have moving objects. Keep up the great work. Michael from Ireland

    I actually using a tamron 17-28mm f2.8 currently and i use it for video reviewing and vlogging. Do you think should i pick this lens up? Or should i just get the tamron 28-75mm f2.8? Thanks!

    You always produce very beautiful and fluide videos. If I may ask, what ultra wide lens did u use from minute 9.13 to minute 9.23? Thank you.

    Thank you Jason for your great review! I’ve a Sony a6500 and I'm a videomaker but, sometimes I made various shooting photos for the clients. I noticed a difference in term of sharp, Sony 16-55 is better but... as I understand it, there is no reason to buy the Sony 16-55 because the Tamron is definitely the best choise. (I’ve also a Sony 30mm 1.4 for portraits photos). I’d love to know what do you think about it. sorry for my english 😂 🇮🇹

    Definitely my next lens purchase. Im waiting for for the a74 to come out to upgrade to full frame. So until then, this will really round out my arsenal for my a6600. Id really like to see the difference between the 24mm equivalent of the Sony vs the 25.5mm equiv of the Tamron

    I only own two lenses a Sigma 16 and Sony 35, the thing is I struggle a lot when I have to change from one to another (especially in run and gun situations or using a gimbal) I'm so interested in the Tamron Lens but I have doubts about not using that much my other lenses now. I don't have much experience in this so, you have any advice?
    Great content as always Jason!!
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Jason, on full frame it's 25.5 to 105mm right? Can I use this lens on my full frame, say, for events as I a one lens set up? I mean I usually carry two lenses for an event, one wide angle for the location of the event and then telephoto for portraits and food. I am torn between this and the 28-200 f2.8. Thank you!!! :)

    I've moved on from APSC to FF, but if I'm still using an APSC, the Tammy is a no brainer. You won't notice the IQ difference from the Sony F2.8 unless you're doing it side by side. And everything is easily correctable in post. The value you get from the Tammy easily makes it the best lens for Sony APSC. The larger size will be an adjustment but I think it's adaptable as this could be the lens on your camera 90% of the time. I have good experience with the Tammy FF, so I'm confident this is another good one from Tammy.

    Jason Vong, I am new to photography. I have been watching many of your videos and it has helped me decide to get a a6400. I am interested in this lens, Tamron 17-70 f2.8....Is this lens something that I can use indoors or will it be to dark of a photo? And lastly, I would like to use this lens for fast action shots like my dogs running as they do sports. Would this lens be good for this? Overall this lens seems like a great lens overall for everything, especially for a starter.

    I have one question. Can it perform well at night particularly during a motion photography at night. Especially now with VC/OSS and with a Constant F2.8 on this lens. For I am also night photographer on aircrafts. Thanks!

      So true! I own a 6400 and even with a gimbal (weebill s) the jittering is noticeable. I have a Samyang 12mm with no oss.. I think this Zoom's Tamron will be a good choice

    Hi Jason, Just ordered a Sony A7C camera and need to find out if I’m videoing indoors on a fixed boom arm (at arms distance away), which lens would be better to use (the Tamron 17-28mm lens, or the Tamron 17-70mm lens), that won’t make my face “fisheye” distorted (up close), and still get some of the background. I included a pic (in an email that sent to you) to show how close I would be. Let me know what you can please thank you.

    I am currently having the a6100 with the SONY E16-55 G which both of them do not have image stabilization. Should I buy this lens or just simply switch to a6600 if I want to have some kind of stabilization that will allow me to shoot in lower shutter speed? (For photography in low light)

    I have a DJI Ronin-SC gimbal and Sony a6400, do you think it can be balanced with this lens? It seems too big to make the camera front heavy, even the total weight is below the max load of the gimbal.
    Thanks.
