I'm in my 70's and I travel light with Sony A6600 fitted with Sigma 16mm 1.4 wide lens and an extra Sony 24 1.8 Zeiss lens in a small Tamrac sling bag. I use prime wides for crisp and tack sharp photos for printing.
Do you use it for portraits and landscape?
@@albert333poolcan someone check if he is alright
I take the opposite philosophy with my APSC travel kit and lean in heavily on primes. The portability advantage of the 6000 series as well as how small APSC lenses are allow you pack a surprising number of primes.
I usually take a 9mm Laowa, 16mm Sigma, 35mm Sony and the 18-105 Sony to fill any gaps and have a long zoom option if and when needed. They all fit neatly into the Hadley Small - with enough room left for a tablet/small laptop, battery pack, a full cleaning kit, a few spare batteries and even a rx100 for backup (or another small lens like the OG 16-50 kit lens).
Super fun and hilarious rundown on your favorite lenses, thanks Jason! Now it's time to go shopping. Hello KEH...
Your energy is contagious! Thanks for these tips and keep up the awesome videos. Subscribed ✅
Thank you for your continued support to all APS-C camera owners/users. I own the Sigma 18-50 and Sigma 56mm, this video helped me decide to go for the Sony 11mm f1.8 than the 15mm f1.4; but will definitely try the 15mm f1.4 in the future. These small lightweight lenses from Sony and Sigma are answered prayers to APS-C owners!
I would think that sigma 16mm is going to be better bet, unless you really miss the 1mm, the price difference + image quality of sigma is hard to beat
My 56mm Sigma is undefeated, however I need a telephoto lens in my arsenal
Thanks Jason, this video was very helpful!
ZV-E10 + 11mm 1.8 is my walkaround video camera. I put it on a Zhiyun Crane M2S for stability and take it off the gimbal when not needed. At least I have Catalyst Browse as a backup to stabilize the footage. I have the A7IV with Tamron 35-150mm 2-2.8 for everything else: photos, timelapse, slowmo, long distance shots. and of course, a gopro and a drone.
Subscribed! Since some of the shots in this video was done at Arab St, Singapore. Awesome and thanks Jason.
Fantastic video! Tons of useful info.
I have the Sony 18-135mm lens almost permanently attached to my A6700. Useful for Street, Lancascape, etc. No other needed unless I was shooting wildlife.
That’s the exact lineup I’m working towards.
I got into Sony recently (leaving Canon ef-m, and Canon in general since their recent RF lens announcement) specifically for these lenses. I have started with the 70-350 lens since I didn’t have a telephoto yet.
I also got the 18-105 f4 on a pretty cheap deal to cover my mid-range needs temporarily and to experiment.
If my budget had allowed it, I’d have gotten the sigma 18-50 f2.8 instead. I’ll get it next for sure, and then definitely that lovely 11 f1.8.
I might still keep the 18-105. I actually quite like filming with the smooth power-zoom, and it’s a very useful wide focal range; but one thing I have noticed annoys me more than anticipated, is its long minimum focusing distance…
In any case I’m excited by the wide choice of quality glass at affordable prices in the E-mount system.
It was great bumping into you at Yodobashi yesterday! Going to add the Sony 11mm to my collection 👍
Thanks for making vids for the APSC users 🙏. You give us hope
I just got back from Megaplex 2022 in orlando and I actually got the 11mm f1.8 the day before the con. I used that lens sooo much during the con from quick shots of fursuiters to using it in the parade as a fursuiter to filming a panel with my camera being up front so more people could fit in the room. I rock a 16-50mm pz oss kit lens with 55-210mm oss telephoto and the 11m f1.8 with my white ZV-E10. I know I will get more use out of the 11m when halloween starts up in the themeparks cause it will be great for using in the haunted houses. Finally keep up the great work for providing us aspc users with this helpful info.
Great Sony APS-C round up! 👏🏼
Hey Jason, nice to see another good video as always but hey, i just noticed a big change (in good!) of the video editing and i had so much fun from beginning to the end! Something is different in your videos tho and i like it! I've been entertained for the full time of the video. I did actually watch it three times in a row lol. Hands down for the content. Thank you mister Jason!
Yes, quite good recommendation! I am using on the A6600 the old Sigma 8-16 via MC-11 Adapter, the Tamron 20-40/2.8 and the 70-350/G. Means, a range from 12-525mm for photography for the night I habe the Sigma 56/1.4.
Been waiting for a video like this! I have the 6400 and just got the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens.
My travel kit is a Sony ZV E10 with the Sony 10-18mm and the Sony 18-200. Job Done. I also have a Sony ZV1 ii as a EDC, I don't leave the house without it.
Great video!
Nice editing Jason
Today i would swap the Sony 11 F1.8 for the Sigma 10-18 F2.8 and the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 for the Tamron 17-70 F2.8. Yes, the sony 11 is sharper and has faster aperture than the Sigma 10-18, but you are covering more wide angle range wich is extremely versatile. Only having 11 mm is a bit restricting. And yes, the Tamron 17-70 is bigger, heavier and little bit more expensive than the Sigma 18-50, but it has more zoom-range on both ends, fills the gap between 50-70mm and has image stabilisation, wich is a big deal, especially on all the Sony APSC cameras without IBIS. Also i feel the Tamron is a bit sharper than the Sigma but that might be only my subjective feeling (tested both). Nothing wrong with 70-350 though, best Tele-Lens on APSC.
Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and Sony 70-350mm OSS for me. Gives 25mm ish to 525mm in 2 lenses. Never needed anything too wide when travelling
Great video! thank you.
I've gone for the Sigma 18-50 and Sony 70-350 with A6700. The third lens is a Tamron 11-20 2.8 but have just bought the Sony 20mm to try out.
Love the 10L Peak Design Sling too.
You make gear review so much fun! You are a funny guy!
thank so much for very informative video. My 18-50 kit lens just broken and now it's time to get the new faster lens :)
Zeiss 16-70 f4 OSS is my universal travel lense for any situation. Thanks to OSS, it's possible to get stills at 1/10, so in low light it much better than f2. 8 zoom without OSS.
I use Tamron 11-20F2.8 + Sony 16-55G + Sony 70-350G lens to cover an extremely wide focal length for my a6600 travel kit. I'll bring the 70-350 only when I know I need that long focal length for the day.
I then bring along primes according to the situation, such as the Sony 15F1.4G lens, Sony Zeiss 24mmF1.8 and the Sigma 56F1.4.
As an alternate for the Peak design clip, I've been using the Belay from Polarpro for a couple weeks now and it's VERY solid. I might have to frankenstein it onto the Peak strap, though, because theirs is so much nicer than the Polarpro one :x
Great fun watching your videos. My travel kit (stills only 🤠) is the Sony a6600 paired with the hefty Tamron 17-70 and the Sony 70-350. I have a tenba slim backpack insert that it all fits in, so I can be fairly light and compact for motorcycle, hiking or international travel shooting. I also usually carry the larger of manfrotto’s mini tripods. It’s so awesome that more lightweight and fast lenses are coming out for a6xxx series cameras. Yay!
Honestly that’s pretty perfect! The Tamron covers most ranges and the Sony takes you even further!
Nice I have the same camera and lenses. I was able to capture amazing photos with both lenses
I have a ZV-E10, and Iam planning a holiday trip to Europe, I don´t have any lenses so struggling to choose 3. On the wide angle between Tamron 11-20 or Sony 11, on middle range between Sigma 18-50 and Tamron 17-70, and for Telephoto just discover Sony 70-350 or Tamron 18-300. Any opinions I am also getting Sigma 16 mm F1.4 for filming at home greta price performance combination, but for my trip which selection you would make?
Tamron 17-70 is my favorite lens
I just bought an a6600 with the Sigma 18-50 as my first camera and wow is it an incredible combo. The Sigma really is amazingly versatile and so much more compact than the Tamron 17-70 I was weighing against it in my decision process. The next one I’ll get is the Sony 11mm and then save up for the 70-350. Thanks!
Don’t buy the sony 70-350 get the tamron 18-300 f3.5-6.3.
Sigma is coming out with a 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN E-mount in December 2023. It’ll be a great compliment to the 18-50mm F2.8. Look for it in “pre-order” soon.
@@chriskaufman4394 I think this will be a fullframe lens, or am I wrong?
11:26 So satisfying to hear Zhiyun pronounced correctly! Heard too many "zhaiyoon", "Zion" and so on!
I have the SAL70300G (4.5 - 5.6), that I use on my NEX7 with a E to A mount adapter. It works great for outdoor shots. It does not have OSS, but you will not be using something like that for video, so with a good tripod, you'll be fine. But the SEL70350G, which is a newer lens with OSS, is a better option for sure. Then again, I bought my camera setup like 10 years ago, so for the time, the SAL70300G, was a really good lens.
Thanks man, just got a ZV-e10.
The 6L Sling bag will also fit all 3 lenses plus a small battery bank/mic and small tripod. Plus batteries. I don't have the 11mm, but I have the Sigma 56mm
Thank you. Picked up an A6700 to augment my full frame Sony bodies so wanted to watch this but went slightly differently with new updates. Have the Sigma 18-50/2.8 and just got a Sony 70-350/4.5-6.3 both in mint used condition. Also did get a Sony 15/1.5 G because 11/1.8 is too wide for me as a prime and will use this more. Also pre-ordered the new Sigma 10-18/2.8 to pair with its mid focal range brother. Did pick up some of the other Sigma DC DN Contemporary primes for special usage but probably won’t travel with them. Great supplement to my full frame kit.
The transitions are so slick
Tamron 70-300mm is a good budget telephoto option. It's a full frame lens, but costs a lot less than the Sony 70-350, but also lacks OSS, but a great budget option.
You spoke the FX30 into existence 😮💨
My man already came in and updated the title for the a6700. We like to see it. CZcamsr level: Grand Master.
I want to see you compare the 11mm to the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm :)
One main reason im squeezing my kit into a Sony main combo... I have that peak design sling and like to fit 2 bodies in it for travel and the Z9 or Canon lenses are much bigger for the best combinations. The new Sony lenses are light and smaller.
With the FX30 out, APSC is now in our sights. This video will help us consider making the change from FF.
2:24 - almost prophetic about the A6700!
I was thinking the same thing watching this! We've all been waiting, but it was a full year since he released this video, haha!
Thank you for another great video. Love your content. I have been using Pgytech Beetle for months. Works good for me. Holds my a6600 and Sigma 16mm + Videomic NTG even when I ride a motorbike.
Thanks for sharing your beetle experience!
Hi Jason, Great Video !!! What 3 lenses do you recommend for Sony full frames ?
The tamron 11-20 f2.8 is also another good one to have
Even though I usually don’t want to spend too much on apsc lenses. I got to say that 11mm is so interesting to me for gimbal work
I've two out of the three. The 70-350 and 15-50. For wide, I've the Tamron 11-20, which is more versatile.
I hope you could make a full frame version of this video!
I am still using my trusty old SLT and tend to take the Sony 18-135 (f3.5/5.6), which stays on most of the time, but with a Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and a Sony 55-300 f4.5/5.6 to give me a complete range. I may pop in the 35mm f1.8 at times if I need it though.
Hi Jason, excellent video! I think that, in the case of apsc, portability is the name of the game. Recently I've been traveling with the sony 18-135 for general purpose (lens very sharp and a very wide zoom range); Tamron 11-20 for wide shots and the Sigma 30mm or 56mm f1.4 for low light. All 3 lenses are very small and sharp.
Yes! I am using the 18-135mm all the time, I think it is the most versatile APS-C travel lens, both wide enough for landscapes and with enough reach for some long-distance shots.
I have an a6500 with the SEL70350. Great lens except for one issue. When I go birding it tends to back focus above 250mm. Unfortunately, you can't just DMF and make the minor correction, even with MF Assist zoom the EVF doesn't have enough resolution to tell if it is back focused and the focus peaking has to large a range with f4.8 to tell if it actually hit focus or not. Maybe with a very bright high res external monitor you could tell... but Sony could just firmware update to include animal eye auto focus, cause this doesn't seem to be an issue for a6600 users. Of course they intend we just buy an a6600. Love the camera and lens otherwise and I have a beanbag to use for really long shots. Thanks Jason, good review, I use a 7artisan manual 25mm f1.8 when I want the wide aperture near 50mm equivalent for the reasons you mentioned!
Thanks for the video
My travel kit: 14mm f1.8 gm, 16-35mm f2.8 gm, tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8, and a7iii(waiting for a7rv)
Yes matched the camera I use and country that I live in ✅
Yes, good choices .
I have and using for travel (ZV-e10): Sony 15mm F 1,4 -- 90%: Sigma 56mm F1,4 -- 10%. Always curry Sony 70 - 350mm but using when needed because it were special and need 100% Tripod (at least monopod).
Well not really a tripod or mono if you use the OSS .
I love watching your videos. From India ❤️
Pgytech Beetle works well with the Mantispod. It is as secure as PD capture clip.
Thanks for the review, what would you recommend as a starter lens for the a6700 primarily photos/videos for traveling (landscapes/portrait).
My kit that goes with my Sony a6300 is the Sigma trinity of f1.4 primes (16, 30, and 56mm).
Whoahhhhhhhh - No mention of the Tamrons LOL I'm going to have to check those out
2:37-2:40 That's an Oscar right there.
Almost my setup! I just use the 10-20 f/4.
@Jason Vong
Make a video on only OSS / optical stabilizer lenses for Sony E-Mount APSC please 🙏
Jason, thanks for the overview of lens. I just purchased a Sony a6700 and added the Sigma 18-50 2.8 lens. I’m also looking at a Sony E-mount FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS Lens and was wondering if there is any concerns with a full frame lens on the a6700 other than the side and weight?
The alternative and for still photographers often better choice, for the 70-350, is the Tamron 18-300mm.
Hi Jason! How about the Tamron 18-300 instead of the Sony 70-350?
Nice video Jason . Thank you so much . The way u speak is truly awesome. I have one query . I do not travel a lot only twice on a year . I have Sony A 6000. Kit lens and sigma 60 mm 2.8 . If I have to ask u that which single lens u would like to advice or recommend for my Sony A 6000. Just one lens if I have to keep along with the 2 lens I mentioned . Also sometimes I use canon eos lens with adapter on Sony . Thank u in advance
Assuming the backpack you talked about is the 15l, in which the crane m2 (and m2s) fits perfectly, does the crane m3 fit too on the sides? I'm considering upgrading my M2 to either the M3, the m2s or the DJI RS3 mini and fitting in that backpack is a very important part of the decision
Just need the 11mm then got other 2 for my a6600 thx for vid
My kit soon will be the Sony 11, the Sigma 18-50, and the good old Sony 55-210. I'm replacing the manual Samyang 12 with the Sony 11, and the Sony 70-350 with the 55-210, cost-neutral fortunately. Why will I do this, especially with the tele zooms: the 70-350 is a really big piece that I use very rarely. So I prefer having the compactness of the 55-210 over the image quality plus of the 70-350...
I would change out the signa 16-50mm for the tamron 17-70mm because of the longer reach but also because of the built in stabilization 👍 also... I would trade out the wide prime for a wide zoom. Mostly for the Sony 10-18mm f4 OSS.... This way i would have covered 10mm all the way up to 350mm with stabilization. And no gapes in the range 👍🙂
The Sigma 10-18 F2.8 has been released recently, i think that would be the lens to go now if you want wide angle versatility and fast aperture while staying lightweight. No OSS though...
@@schnubbel76 hi, i recently ordered the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8
... Also upgraded my camera to a6700 😇🔥🔥🔥
What will be the full frame travel kit please ?
I would take the Sony 15mm 1.4 G, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 and the Zeiss Batis APO-Sonnar 135mm 2.8
Jason - I find all I need is a APS 24-400 mm lens.
Why not the Tamron 18-300mm? Stabilized, even has some macro features. Yes it's big but for it's reach and image quality it's perfect. Love comparing different setups/recommendations, so all good. Cheers and great video.
I use this tamron and I love it, it allows me to learn about portrait, macro, and a bit birding. even I attach it with raynox for a macro 1:1 magnification ratio or more. Hiwever, when the sky gets darker after the dusk, then I change it with my sigma 16mm f1.4.
Was that "crazy reach" at 8:55 ? Yes, yes it was
i have an a6400 and i only use the zeiss 24mm f1.8, it's an incredible lens
Yeah to these 3 lens choices but my additional lens could well as the Sony E 50mm f1.8 as my solitary indoor studio lens
Excellent topic and video. I agree with your pics. The middle zoom is tricky, though. I’ve had a 16-70 Zeiss for years, so I’d probably keep that. But, because I find I use the 50-70 range so much I’d probably get the Tamron 17-70 if I were buying today.
The Zeiss 16-70 was hard to give up!! It was unfortunately stolen from me. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise because the Sigma came out with their 2.8 and for the price, I had to choose it over the Zeiss again
@@JasonVong The 16-70 was my daily driver the past 4 years. I just picked up the Tamron 17-70. I haven't used a Tamron 2.8 in that range since my a100 days. I'm considering selling the 16-70 and picking up the Sigma 18-50 but it's so hard to give that one up!
A6600 body paired with a Samyang 12mm F2, Sony 16-55 f2.8 and the Sony 70-350
Looking to upgrade the Samyang to the new 11mm lens
now that the sigma 10-18 f2.8 is coming would you still recommend the 11mm f1.8?
Jason Vong, great video! I hope you can answer my question, we are planing to buy the Sony a6700. We do mostly geocaching videos (as you can check on our channel, with some close ups and sometimes low light environment, as well as landscapes on the b-roll). Do you recommend us the Sony 11mm F1.8 Lens for the a6700? It's ultrawide, so I'm afraid to get that Eye Fish effect, that's something not acceptable for us, as we want to make our videos more cinematic. What's your opinion? Thank you.
… my travel kit is „Sony only“: 10-20 F4, 15 F1.4, 16-55 F2.8 and 70-350 F4.5-6.3 and of cause the a6600. 😊
Just curious, what is the 15mm f1.4 for? Low-light situations?
@@madebyPure … jep, street photography in the evening or at nighttime and of cause a bit astrophotography (but I’am not a expert in that case, just for fun).
@@TW-iu9zy makes sense, cool!
@@madebyPure … yes, after 3 years using the a6600 I love the IQ and would not switch. But I hope next year we finally will get a successor with the new menu and better ergonomics.
6600 over 6400? If your doing photo and video?
How about the Tamron 18-300 f3.5/6.3 with vibration compensation? In my opinion that's the best travel lens for sony apsc right now, $700, 27-450 FF equivalent, paired with a 35f1.8 oss, 2 lenses, there you go ;)
I think for travel the full frame 70-300 from Tamron (at a lot less weight and half the cost of the Sony) makes the most sense for most (APS-C or full-frame shooters). I sold my 70-300 G for the Tamron, and see little if any difference in image quality. I sold it for the weight difference. Of course for those who want stabilization, that's different. I'm using the Tamron now with an FX30 BTW.
The Tamron is 545g, whereas the Sony 70-350 is 625g, so not too big a weight difference, but agree their is a big price difference. The full frame Sony 70-300 is 854g, so a lot heavier and even more expensive, and so not such a great option for APSC.
That could make sense if you want to switch to full frame some day in the future. If not, i dont see the point in sacrificing the extra 50mm of the Sony 70-350. The price dropped a lot since release, today it is 600 Euro in europe on amazons black friday sale while the Tamron is 429 Euros. Wich is of course still cheaper but not as much difference than before and the build and image quality of the Sony lens is amazing. I think it is worth it, if fullframe is not necessary in the future.
Tbh i completely agree with this line XD
My 16-55 is glued to my a6600 but it is pretty big. Still the sharpest APS-C zoom that ive used on my Sony.
I have the 18-50 sigma and thinking I really want the 16-55 instead , I really would rather have it wider
My travel kit is 18-135mm and sigma 30mm f1.4
04:25 Ohhhh there is the mention of my trusted @Tamron LOL
you were about to have your pitchfork ready!
@@JasonVong 😆 🤣
How does the 70-350mm fair in comparison to other G quality lenses, do you think it deserved that G or is the aperture hurting it too much ? Thanks
Laowa 9mm ultra wide, Sony 16-55 G, Sony 70-350 is the BEST TRAVEL TRIO!!! Change my mind!!
What camera body you use ?
Hi Jason, great video as always, thanks. I wished there was a video like this one at the beginning of the year, it would have saved me some time, I'm sure it will do great. But at the end I ended up with a similar all around compact hybrid camera kit for (what I was looking for), Sony ZV e10, Sony 10-20mm f4, Sigma 18-50 f2.8, Sony 70-350, Crane M3, Sony vlog grip (it's enough for me). I went with the PGYTECH system not only because the beetle which performs pretty well but because I hate screwing and unscrewing thinks from my camera, so i drop a clamp in every thing a use the camera with , the tripod, Sony grip, and the Crane M3 which I manage to balanced it pretty well with the Sony 10-20mm and the Sigma 18-50mm. I even can put the gimbal on the tripod, or the Sony grip with the gimbal cause I added two plates at the bottom and the side of the gimbal, and on more clamp to the gimbal tripod :D a bit expensive all the system but man! no more screwing and unscrewing tings, it's a pleasure. I also added another plate to the smartphone adaptor so I can mount it everywhere as well. I hope this information is useful, it was a try and error thing.
Haha I’m sorry this came out late! The new 11mm is the biggest inspiration for this video because there are none simply like it and it’s finally out! It would be tough making f4 recommendations but finally, I can recommend something decent!
Thank you so much for sharing your exp with the beetle! I will have to test it out and see for myself. It’s a shame Peak Design never streamlined a solution like this with their own square plates. But PGYTECH has been coming out with some nice QR solutions!
@@JasonVong I agreed, I was very close to pick the 11mm but I decided to go first with the more versatile 10-20 even at f4, if i see myself using a lot any focal length from 10mm to 350mm or missing a couple of step of light I'll get a prime like the Sony 11mm, 15mm or Sigma 56mm.
And yes, it's a shame because I looked at Peak Design first for a QR solution but ended up with PGYTECH (I didn't even know it existed) and in my opinion it is a cool and solid QR solution.
@jason - Falcam is coming out in August with a new plate for the M3 that is Arca Swiss compatible. Look for part 2858! I'm getting it!
NOOO WAY! thanks for letting me know!
What is the beginner level camera? Do you have any suggestions?
A couple of amazon reviews of the Crane M3 gimbal say that the audio recording wires connecting to the gimbal don't work. Have you tried this?
Would you swap out the Sony 11mm for the sigma 10-18 f2.8? How bout the sigma 70-200 f2.8 for telephoto?
This was a great video. And way to call out Sony releasing the Fx30.
Ulanzi released an arca swiss compatible quick release adapter for the Zhiyun Crane M3. However, I don't like some of their design decisions, and it is not compatible with the Pygtech backpack mount, because the safety mechanism doesn't work.
Great vid. I have a Sony a6400 with kit lens, Sigma 24-70 Art, and Sigma 105mm Macro Art. I had the 18-50mm but felt I needed the better zoom and less of the wideness for my style of photography so returned it. Looking to get the 56mm f/1.8 next or maybe something with OSS. Thanks again!
How does the 18 50 fair In i.q with the f.f counterpart ?
