Thanks @AndersErickson for sending me your Bartender's Blend coffee!
The Irish Coffee was first created by a chef/bartender named Joe Sheridan at Shannon airport. During the 1940s Joe prepared a round of spiked coffees for some weary travelers and after one patron asked "Is this Brazilian coffee?", Joe replied "No, it's Irish coffee!".
A writer sampled the Irish Coffee while transiting through the Irish airport in 1952 and upon his return to San Francisco he shared the drink with his friend Jack Koeppler, then owner of the Buena Vista Cafe. They didn't know the exact recipe so they trialed and tinkered until they replicated the drink. The cafe became famous for their Irish Coffees and now serve 1000s each day!

lol From the "let's go to the bar" to the sliding the ingredients in from out frame defo an Anders' tribute.
Cheers, Steve! Really like the feel of this vid 😂 So happy you enjoyed the coffee and cocktail!
I’m very glad I revisited the Irish Coffee! Thank you!
Ooooffttt the dream team
He even paid homage to your way of introducing the things that go into the drink! Cheers to both of you legends.
Any chance your blend will ever be available outside the US?
Both your channels are my "go to" cocktail channels. Thank you both!
I enjoyed how you used some of Anders' signature phrases at the beginning of the video.
Wow! My two favourite bartenders collaborating. I adore Anders, but I love you too, Steve! 🤶🤶
Love to see Anders making his way onto channels like yours :)
The journalist that brought the Irish Coffee to the B V was Stan Delaplane, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
Got your book! It is amazing. Great job!!!
The Irish Coffee is one of my favorites. And this is some good coffee and great technique!!!
I've honestly never had a good Irish Coffee...until today! And now I've had 4 great Irish Coffees!
@@StevetheBartender_ That is the way they hook you. :)
well few month ago i was in ireland and visited some some stills and the irish whisky museum and they said that the original whisky for irish coffee was powers. and the important thing for irish coffe is that the whisky used is pretty oily because than the cream tops better.
I subscribe to only 2 Bartender's and don't like to overwhelm with too many so Steve and Anders sharing ideas makes my Bartender choices perfect for any drink, any season, and all I need for amazing history and Drink choices.
Saludos desde Puerto Rico!!!! Ya me llego tu libro!!!!! Es excelente.
Good vid Steve. Love the book as well❤
Great video! I have actually had the good fortune to witness the pageantry of the Buena Vista line of Irish Coffees being made before me. It's worth the flight! (depending on how far away you are)
Was in Ireland this past june and in an empty pub had a bartender invite me behind the bar to make one with him to learn… basically the same recipe here but with espresso… best Irish coffee I ever had and make it every Sunday morning
🖤Love that hand grinder🖤☕️
Yum, coffee & whiskey! Bought the 3 bag bundle!! 💪🏻 You had me at coffee/Black Friday sale lol 😂☕️♥️ Two of my favorite CZcamsrs! I love both yours & Anders’ channels! Very cool to see you guys collab! 👏🏻🙌🏻 Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving from us celebrating here in the States 🥰🇺🇸
Nice one! Would love to hear your thoughts on the Irish Coffee once you receive the beans!
Oh yes! I absolutely LOVE Tullamore Dew! My favorite 😍😍😍
Love to see you back, Steve!!! Missed you a lot, and that's a great video to come back with! Cheers!
Thanks Dimitar! I didn’t go too far.. 😁
@@StevetheBartender_ Glad to know but I hope we see more regular content on the channel next year! 🙌
Lovely coffee cheers
Nice Anders bottle slide
Been to the Buena Vista SF many times for the Irish Coffee - it's an institution. Then to Ghirardelli 2 blocks away for a chocolate milk shake
Steve, you make me happy
So cool, all you need now is the stately grey hairs to give that true Anders feel.
I love the instinctual shaker tin tap on the hand grinder around 4:05
STEVE!!! This looks soooooo tasty!!! You look like you've done this before!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
I've only made a couple of bad Irish Coffees before... until today! Now I'm obsessed with them... so good!
Hell yeah Timemore C2 grinder! That's my daily work grinder.
It's amazing as long as you don't want to make 4 espresso back to back! How do you drink your coffee?
@@StevetheBartender_ most definitely! That’s a workout 😂 I usually do a V60 pour over with the grind setting around 18 clicks. So medium fine. I prefer the Timemore over my Baratza electric grinder to be fair!
Looks delicious
Exceptionally good!
Aww. I'm almost sad man. We didn't get the classic Steve Smile while you were grinding the coffee. Cool to see you actually suggest fresh grinding coffee. Some people don't suggest that but it DOES make a difference
Tullamore dew is my favorite drink, love it neat
Omg you guys should host a competition together like the Mr. Black! You two are the only bartenders I watch and I love you both! 😅🤣
Thanks Dr! The Coffee Cocktail Challenge is my creation - Mr Black was the major for the first 2 years! 🎉
Always a great warming drink
Great content 👌
Thank you 🙌
I've been using Paddys but I'll try Tullamore and Powers next holiday.
Little dusting of nutmeg on top and that sounds amazing 😁 (And yeah, save the cream for a Dominicana 😘)
Jameson is the goat for Irish coffee 🐐
Hey Steve, thanks for doing this. Being an Irish man i am partial to both Irish whiskey and an Irish coffee ;). I'd love to get your thoughts on an Hot Whiskey, another popular one in Ireland.
Buena Vista uses white cane sugar (2 bits) and 4.5cl whisky and they say you shouldn't use molasses based sugar like demerara. Maybe demerara doesn't change the viscosity of the drink enough, I don't know.
Hey Steve, I've been watching your videos for years and using your recipes for friends. If possible, could you do a prebatch video? I know the negroni is a classic go to but aperol and campari taste bitter to me (similar to how cilantro tastes like soap to me) and I don't see a lot of great sources on prebatching.
Do you sweeten the cream?
I can't hear Guatemalan blend or Ethiopian without thinking of the Duncan Hills jingle.
Tullamore Dew is the Irish whiskey I have on hand… I see you Jamesons in the back there
Steve: "i'm using tullamore dew because its what i have on hand"
Me: looking at the bottle of jameson and teeling in the background "hmm?"
In a glass not designed for Irish coffee put a metal spoon in the glass before the hot water and it will stop the glass from cracking.
Would adding a teaspoon of Amaretto affect it in a good or bad way?
If you like amaretto then probably a good way 👍
I love coffee so much, but would you believe I’ve never tried an Irish coffee? Lol
I find it way too funny that he says he is using Tullamore Dew because it's the Irish whiskey he has on hand, while a bottle of Jameson sits right behind him.
Because I have it on hand AND it’s the whiskey used at Buena Vista Cafe.
@@StevetheBartender_ No no I know that. It was just funny that I noticed the bottle in the background right when you said that.
I love Steve
How can u dislike Irish coffee, its liquid gold.
That and the swedish version
Kaffe Karlsson
Coffee, baylees, orange liquir and creme.
Both are just so damn too dessert drinks
Link for the glass?
It’s in the description 👍
@@StevetheBartender_ My bad didnt scroll enough. Thank you brother!
The Dead rabbit ,they have the best irsihcoffee😀
yooooooo what kind of van do you have
Mercedes Vito!
4th!?!?!----->YESSSSSSS!!!!!
My automatic English subtitles thinks that you actually said "Tullamore Jew"
I've been getting in to making better coffee for a few weeks now. So I could be wrong. But blooming coffee in a french press seems unnecessary, right?
“Allowing your coffee to bloom allows the CO2 to escape, so the remaining water can fully absorb the flavor in the beans. This creates a fresher taste and brings out all of those fun flavor notes that different beans and roasts have to offer.” savorista.com
As for the sugar, I would never use "white" sugar as such, always either demerara or at least in Finland *everyone* (me included) like to opt for brown sugar (white sugar with added molasses); gives it a way richer flavor/texture profile. Also 40ml whiskey ;)
Funny how Irish Coffee is probably 99% known to everyone who's ever had a drink, but still you get 99% different version whereever you go :D
Hai
Original is with brown sugar
Why did it end so weird without you even tasting it?
I deleted the last 30 seconds of the video yesterday because the retention drops off really badly. Using it as a test case to see if it affects the views. I removed it in CZcams so I can undo it.
@@StevetheBartender_ Ah okay I see, thanks for getting back to me!
30 dollars for a pack of coffee? You must be joking
That’s incorrect. It’s $20 for a pack, $18 if you subscribe and $15 with the buy 3, get 1 free deal.
Milk foam …please. Not cream
What happened to your app? I saw it in a recent video on CZcams but cannot find it @Steve the bartender
It was in Shannon Airport, where at that time all Trans-Atlantic flights stopped to refuel. It's also where the concept of Airport Duty-Free was invented.
Baileys and similar Irish Cream liqueurs are derived from it, but interestingly they don't actually use Whiskey. I believe that's because White Spirit/Vodka gives more stability and a longer shelf life.
Anyway. a very nice video about a real classic.
Unfortunately, I don't think Joe Sheridan was really rewarded.
