  • New 12GB Nvidia RTX 3080 - Do We Need It? NVIDIA quietly announced a brand new 12GB version of their RTX 3080 card, but will it be more of the same low stock and high price gouging. GA 102 is now in 5 SKUs for NVIDIA and it seems like they are trying to get the most from that chipset before even thinking of moving forward.

    I am a light gamer and I got this card from Microcenter two weeks ago (it was the last one on the shelve when I got there -- really happy). I am going to be using this card for Deep Learning mostly, that extra 2GB will make some differences in speed during training. We can training at higher number "batch size" which makes requires less iterations per EPOCH. Sorry if you're not similar with those terms, but basically it would make the training time a little faster. However I would much prefer the 3090 with that 24 GB :D. Have a good one.

    I wonder if this shortage will cause long-term harm to AAA game studios. Many of them depend on having the best graphics available at launch, but what if the market of gamers who can run said games decreases? I've skipped some of the newer multiplayer games because friends have said that they are unplayable for them even at lower settings.

I have been looking off and on for 2 years now and still haven’t found a card that I would buy. I’m not finding anything at a reasonable price all on its own. (Brand new!!) I’m at the point I’m just going to buy it in a pre build because then I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth!! So if the 12 gig 3080 is in the pre build and it’s not that much more! 2 x 3080 FE at MSRP in SLI is the best bet with 20 total GB vs 24 in 3090 but performance in supported games is way better, I still have an EVGA SC2 1080Ti 11GB still able to play High to Ultra on Most Games, due to personal scheduling I missed out on Best Buy's Restock at MSRP 2 months ago, it Drops on Fridays, there is prior notification, there will always be a line but you get there at 6 - 6:30am when the even starts they ask you what card are you buying and based on availability will hand you a ticket for the card you want and only 1 per person at 7am or 8am and you enter the store and buy your card, you also have the option of coming back before 12noon that day and present your ticket to buy your card, at 11 - 11:30 am an additional line of people forms inside the store waiting to purchase cards that are being held till 12noon because a ticket was handed out, 3080s were $699.99, 3080ti were $1,199.99 and The 3090 was $1,499.99, New MSRPs may be higher now

    Meh, I remember the MSRP of the RTX 3080, then look at that, no, just no. I will use my GTX1080 until the price is right or it dies. If the price is not right and it dies, I will plug something in to get a display and stop gaming. If everyone was like me on this, scalpers would not be an issue and prices would not be stupid high. They cost what they do, because people will pay it.

    I think the question isn't "do we need it" but "can we get it" :) At the current GPU shortage, every new card is welcome at the right price. But the real question is - can we get it? Because the average gamer will have no chance to buy that card..... Believe me or not, I prefer to spend my money on 2nd hand car instead of a new video card. 😄

    • @JimzJimmy
      @JimzJimmy Před 2 lety

      right price or not depends on the perception of the buyer. Its demand and supply rule in the end and MSRP or not won't be a standard for pricing an item. In the end, either you buy it with scalped price or just wait until don't know when.
      If you think the cards are WORTH your money, then buy them. In the end, you will get what you pay and worth of each card depending on you.
      Miners said, "hey even if you sell it at the scalped price, it's still worth my money".

  • @linchester8464
    @linchester8464 Před 2 lety

    many of us are still GPUless because everywhere is out of stock and scalpers are charging crazy prices for the GPUs heck like you said older Gen GPUs and used GPUs are selling at inflated prices.
    Many report/rumor the RTX3050 is gonna be sold at double MSRP, so even one of the mid range card is gonna be 500 bucks and same case with the AMD RX 6500 XT.
    The only saving grace for us now is waiting for AMD RDNA2 APUs unless scalpers decide to wipe out all stocks of the APU.

    No. Nvidia is continuing to ignore the consumer on this one. We don't care about Nvidia putting out new cards and keeping up with their competition because they are still not able to supply the market with the cards they announced 3 years ago. I'm not playing the game. I'm going to run my 1080 ti until it dies or I can buy a card at a good value like I was able to in 2017. If Nvidia hasn't cleaned up their act by then I'll just check out altogether and pick other hobbies.

    Nvidia is killing PC gaming by doing this. Sure, PS5s are not easy to get either but at least their retail prices haven't spiked. I have a decent PC but you're getting way more value for your money getting a PS5. A $1500 graphics card that's outdated after 3 years? Yippee... Meanwhile console graphics and performance get better and better during their life cycle. I mean just look at BF4 vs BF1 or BFV on PS4.
