April Is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This year's theme is Building Connected Communities. It resonates with me as an employment lawyer and mediator, as well as a survivor of sexual assault and polyvictimization. Too often, entities who share a mission of raising awareness and preventing sexual assault:
- Work independently of each other
- Compete for the same resources
- Fight for the spotlight
We need to work together.
Here are three simple actions you can take this week to connect your communities:
1. Talk to your loved ones about the statistics and risks of sexual assault.
2. Listen to their stories as they experienced them, not as you think they should or how you would.
3. Support their healing by providing them resources.
