Thank you for the video. It's always very helpful. Although I have some convincing to do, I believe these skills will also be helpful for the convincing. My problem is that there are regulations we need to comply... but my colleagues are completely against it. As the regulations are final, I doubt there is room negotiate for a different outcome. We cannot come to agree to a half compliance to regulations. I can, however, try to listen to their worries and see if I can change their minds or perspectives.

First, haggling is a form of negotiation that is often a hassle we would prefer not to be entangled in. Second, if your enemy is able to walk away then you have lost.
When husband & I were newlyweds , we literally had the window argument upon going to sleep over & over. Some nights he’d see it my way, other nights I’d sleep on the couch. Eventually I discovered & could afford cashmere.
Focus on Interests, Not Positions Effective negotiators focus on the underlying interests of all parties, rather than merely their positions. Hi little bit better. You're great as usual, but Imagine inviting your paymasters suggestions on way forward. He will return you to your desk with a promise to "fix it" soon as his way fwd. My paymasters act like that.😅😅
I don't know how much this technique works in real life. Then another issue like the video didn't share how to improve our negotiation skills and including thats thing I think it's really worth.

What if there is only one room so that you can open the window or not open the window in first situation? And in second situation, what if you are the only one person who is going to cut and distribute, then the other person who was not there at the time of cutting has an issue?
Just turn the heat on and open the window. The librarians dad will come get triggered for wasting electricity. The other 2 men will get uncomfortable and leave.
What if the negotiation is regarding someone’s inability to recognize their faults or n a relationship? You have to talk about them thus making the conversation personal. Both sides have to be willing for negotiation.

I like you work and i know you really like to help people i need to know what tool are you using to generate such amazing animation and tank you for your help
Interesting, the video talks about ‘fairness’ but every book I’ve read about negotiation always say to avoid the topic of what’s fair. In ‘Never split the difference’ the author made the example that if someone took your family member hostage and demanded $100K, what would a fair price be to get them back? The answer is $0 because they shouldn’t have kidnapped them and the $100K is completely made up.
Yeah totally agree, and that example about orange directly highlights that splitting the orange 50/50 what is considered “fair” is not a good idea, if only it was discussed prior then both sides would have gotten a 100% of what they wanted.
This is the best explaining video I ever watched. Her voice also very helpful. Thr content itself just excellent!

Wonderful and useful
The first example is a bit of a cop out. What if they both want to stay in the same room with the door closed. Now that’s a situation.
Same question I wanted to ask.
You might encounter other similar situations, just apply the same principle onwards.
That's easy. Hand them both a knife and find out who really cares

The underlying assumption is that the actors to the negotiation are not bad actors . In case of bad actors , it’s a clear case of win or lose.
