Fun fact, this video was recorded in the closet and the video was shot in the kitchen. They hired someone to edit it, and the whole thing was done for $400. Won them their first of three Grammy awards.
True ! True ! True ! I love these singers, always thrilling and powerful ! :) Another Grammy for DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRYS, by Tchikofsky's Nutcracker, sound only, no words.... AMAZING !
yer the closet was actualy a room under the stairs(i know people in the USA call it a closet),but they filmed it all for under $500.
Super interesting thanks !
There's no EQ in that. Avi Kaplan is a classically-trained singer and is a true basso profundo (a singer with an extremely low range). At a concert in Japan, he broke the sound system because it couldn't handle the lowest note he had to sing in one of their songs.
It's studio, all their voices have some EQ lol.
@@imperius5765 listen to their live "daft punk".. it sounds literally the same
@@lilithesg2270 I dunno, I've noticed Avi's voice sounds different from studio to live but maybe that's just me
@@RosheenQuynh Having seen them live, if anything it's richer in person.
@@Calisto9 When I said live, I meant without any equipment but I believe you! 😍 I've seen him solo in concert but not when he was with PTX ☹
DISCLAIMER: No Musical Instruments were harmed in the making of this Video.
And no one’s ears or heart ❤️
Love this!!
Well, maybe a mic or speaker or two.
@@TheaMidnight I disagree, my heart is still trying to recover from being swept away by Avi's bass! 😂
@@thomasarussellsr This 😆
One thing I really like about this video is that it shows off not only Avi's vocal range but also his beatboxing. Most of the time he's off camera when he does it. He does a good job backing up or playing off of Kevin, the main beatboxer. Kevin and Avi are awesome to watch and listen to. Kevin's 'drum kit' is just amazing.
Try their original "LOVE AGAIN", Avi (the bass back then) takes you to church with his voice while Mitch (Angel voice) makes you believe it
Yes i love "love again"
Hmm. I always seem to be the only non-fan of Love Again. I actually didn't like any of their originals until the 2015 album, where I liked most of the originals on it.
@@Wiley_Coyote that's fair. The quality definitely got better on their original songs, but Mitch could sing the worst song ever written and sound beautiful to me so...😂😂😂
Yes please!
@@mcholman5677 Yeah--especially if the song has a good bass solo for Avi.
They deserved that grammy...honestly, the chills...mind blowing
This song won PTX their first Grammy (2015) in the ‘Best Arrangement, instrumental or a cappella’ category.
They literally had to create that category for them.
Mad talents
Such a great medley... this Grammy was 1000000000000% deserved
Folks have already mentioned Avi's natural talent as the bass, the guy has blown out speakers during sound checks by accident. If you like the bass stuff- which, why wouldn't you - you should check out Voiceplay's cover of "The Oogie Boogie Song" and Home Free's cover of "A Man of Constant Sorrow".
Also, Natural Disaster is amazing.
No autotune was used, that's just pure talent. And yes, Avi's voice really is that deep.
Pentatonix is the world's best a capella group ever! Home Free is a close second.
I have seen lots of people react to this video with shock, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone react to it with the same level of sheer JOY in the music as you did here. Delightful to watch, and it made me dance right along with you.
How about those minor 9th chords at the beginning? Avi is doing overtone whistle-note singing throughout, and Kevin is doing snare drum rim shots! Amazing!
Avi did the overtones and deep bass for the Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack. You can actually recognize his voice in the clip labeled "Wallace". That deep voice is really him.
Your reaction was almost 100% identical to mine. I was seriously SHOCKED when I found out that there were no instruments, that was all their VOICES!
I grew up in St Louis in the 70's & 80's listening to a mix of Acid Rock, early Metal, Punk, Goth, New Wave, Funk, and classic Motown, so my music collection has a little bit of everything, including techno and the stylings of Daft Punk. Pentatonix's rendition of some of Daft Punk's biggest hits... what can I say, just like Prince, it makes me want to Laugh, cry, and DANCE all at the same time. Glad that you took the time to check them out!
First of all: props to you for that great intro! About PTX? Out of this world and there’s a lot more where that came from. Do more PTX and you are in for a treat!
Pentatonix are amazing in general but this one has always been one of my favs
Pentatonix is awesome......more please.
You have just started a journey that will end in total amazement. Ptx should rule the world xxx
Cool intro! And even more cool shout outs in rap!! If you listen to the original Daft Punk pieces, you'll be amazed how PTX was able to execute this. Right worth the Grammy!! But if you want to see them rapping, do check out their covers of Macklemore's "can't hold us" or Arianna Grande's "Problem"
They really made an awesome medley of Daft Punk’s songs. If you don’t know who Daft Punk is they are a French electronic music duo that formed in 1993 so they have been around for a long time! This song is a mashup of many of their greatest hits. It is a song mashup of Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World.
I liked your live intro mate, greetings from regional Victoria in Australia 😀🇦🇺
Loved your reaction!! Can't wait for you to react to more Pentatonix!!!!
He's a basso profundo AND a duotone (able to sing two distinct notes at once)
Your joy watching this is awesome. Thats how I feel listening to this song time after time
I loved watching the moment you fell down into the Pentatonix rabbit hole, your enthusiasm with what you were watching was great! They won their first Grammy award with this $400 video😊
Pentatonix sound of silence and amazing grace
Awesome welcome intro, thanks, Northern New South Wales , Australia here...
Hard to believe they've been together almost ten years now.
Avi's a true basso profundo, going down to a true D1 without growls or tricks. Very rare and really cool!
The song is a medley of Daft Punk songs, arranged and peformed by Pentatonix. Daft Punk is a French electronic duo.
I love how they sound the exact same live. They are by far the best without all the technology everyone else uses
Best welcome ever
PTX aha star vista... Here avi's earphone busting bass voice.. awesome
Hallelujah is also a good song to watch
If you'd like an incredible headphone experience, listen to Hallelujah (official), Gold, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody..etc.. They are quite an experience!! Loved your reaction! Subscribing...
That's a good list. Most people would have forgotten Gold, but I love it. I'd add Cheerleader (just a fun song), Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy (another Grammy winner), Come Along (very dramatic, in a good way), and Shallow (the best cover of that song).
Mary Did You Know
Natural Disaster. That song is Avi at his best.
@@Wiley_Coyote Love your list as well.. forgot about Come Along.. one of my very favorites!!
Excited to see another person discover the supernatural gem that is Pentatonix. They have a LOT of content out on CZcams and it is all good. Most of it is downright mind blowing. If I see you react to more I will be back with a subscribe for you!
I've seen them live twice and they perform this pretty much as you hear it here. Avi's voice is unreal though. It shook the walls.
They rock every single time!!
Avi always gettin that holla for that bass drop [our work is never] "over". I get it. People be in shock when that video be playin and I hit that note right in front of them. They be wanting to know why I ani't sing in no group. I tell em, too damned hard to catch a break, and at mid 200s on that scale, you know I likes to eat.
06:02 "Hold up man, hold up. Hold up. That is too deep." Great reaction.
Dude, best intro ever. I had to subscribe if you do something like that in the videos everytime, I'm passing your video everywhere man
Enjoyed your reaction wholeheartedly 🤣 Daft Punk is a master creation
YEEES PTX FINALLY! I waited so long for that one :,) I’m here for your metal reactions but ptx is awesome too!
Well you certainly had fun with that. LOL Glad to see people discover what we love as well.
I came for the reaction and loved it before Pentatonix even started! OMG that bass!!! YES! (and 5 strings, too!!!)
Are you kidding me? I am blown away by your channel man. I'm a huge Pentatonix fan and look for reactions to their music and I have to say, your videos are easily my favorite out of the past 6 years following these guys. Thanks man.
Your intro made me feel like I was transported to the 1970's +80's and was listening to a funky radio station I love the production quality I'm an all rounder when it comes to musical prefrences but this styles this feel hits different than half of youtube and it makes me feel funky fresh (I must've been a musician in that era in a past life but sadly i'm too young to know it through and through but the fact you have the capability to make a viewer feel like they was there is a star quality)
Welcome to the youtube era of the return of funk lets bring about a new music
révolution with something old and something new for your musical minds to chew feel the soul of the music once again with passion, cause with some of the music out there today god knows we need a revolution!
I've always said that every man on Earth probably wishes he could sing Avi's bass lines and solo at least once in their life. Best acapella since The Manhattan Transfer and Take 6...Love your bass too, Sir! Keep doin' what you do!
Yeah!
Pretty sure that wasn't EQ, so much as voice? Avi's bass is unreal!
So true. There's a live performance of this song on CZcams that proves this. And yes, Avi's voice is indescribable and unbelievable.
Here's the link for that off mic performance :-)

The effect he was talking about was actually done by Kevin. Still though, I think that was all him.
@@daleharden1749 No, he was talking about the bass level, or maybe suspecting autotune. Avi has a very resonant deep voice, _basso profundo,_ which someone unfamiliar with the group won't know. NO AUTOTUNE, EVER, WITH PTX!
EQ isn't the same thing as whether or not Avi's voice can sing that note or sing it in a resonant way. It's just about bringing out certain frequencies in the master. A cappella bass and beatbox always go through a high level of EQ, compression, and such to bring out those latent aspects of the sounds. I know this because my a cappella group has worked with the same producers that PTX works with.
The fact that every sound comes from their voice/ bodies makes it that much more amazing!
Please, please, please do more Pentatonix...you will be hooked!!! They do everything with just voices, (except for Kevin's cello which makes the odd appearance). Apart from that, NO instruments or voice manipulation. Loved this reaction video...New sub here! Beat boxing is ALL Kevin & the bass is ALL Avi.
Avi has blown sound systems in concerts. They do this live and it sounds the same. They do as little editing as possible. You have to go to one of their concerts. You will be blown away. Avi left the group because of family issues and Matt Sallee ( chosen by Avi) is the new bass
He was chosen by Avi? Didn’t know that
No, there was an exhaustive audition process. He may have been recommended, but he wasn’t “chosen”... The other members and mint team made the call. Many tried out...
@@fritzk3627 I've heard that he was at least Avi approved
Avi was friends with Matt. Matt has gone to one of their concerts and they became friends.
I originally came here for the reaction but then I was pleasantly surprised and blessed to hear this creative and one of a kind intro.. no going back now
Yaaas! Nothing hotter than a bass. Love this intro. More please!
I love bass players. It & drummers are my favorites. No instruments No reverb No auto tune. New sub following PTX...I'm a Pentaholic
I think this is one of the most satisfying reactions to Daft Punk I've ever seen 😊
Yo man have to listen more of Pentatonix: Hallelujah, The Sound of Silence and Bohemian Rhapsody
so great to hear your talent as a bassist from a fellow bassist and get your review.. spot on
That lower note you hear by Avi aren't even the lowest a voice can get. For proof, watch Voiceplay's rendition of the Oogie Boogie song.
They sound this good live also!!! Avi is the best, everyone of them packs a punch.
💥OMG!! PENTATONIX IS THE GREATEST ACAPELLA GROUP IN THE WORLD!!!
😎👉YES!! All those sounds were made with their voices!!
3 Grammys (this song medley won them their first Grammy)
18+ MILLION SUBS
BILLIONS OF CZcams VIEWS!!
This is the original lineup (the guy who sang first Mitch and the girl Kirstie change their look a lot so don't get confused when you see other videos)
The guy with the beard Avi is the ONLY member that left and was replaced by Matt as the groups bassist!!
The guy with the white hair is Scott
The beatboxer is Kevin
💥MORE PENTATONIX PLEASE!!!💥
That's all Avi. Opera trained and awesome!
That is one awesome intro! Yeah! Vibin!
1:50 don't you dare listen. Keep the groove up my man. Loving your playing
There's a really good "Sound on Sound" interview piece with Pentatonix's lead mixing engineer, from a few years ago. It's fascinating, talking about how they are walking the line between making sure that they can perform all of their material live with minimal processing, and on the other hand being a *pop band* and having expectations about what pop sounds like. www.soundonsound.com/techniques/inside-track-pentatonix
Do not change a thing about your intros. It’s all heart. It’s what made me sub, G.
Loved how your joy of this compilation showed through! You The Man!
I loved watching how much you got into this song! You seemed to have a blast.
I know a lot of others have probably suggested things for you to react to, but their cover of John Lennon's Imagine is probably a good choice for the current times. It's beautiful and really hits you in the feels.
They won a GRAMMY for this song.
Yours is by far my favorite reaction to this song!!
Dude! I hit the subscribe button 60 seconds into this video. Once I heard that base, I was hooked! Looking forward to more content.
Wow... thanks so so much 🙏 and thanks for the sub... i don't take that lightly.... i will do more. Thanks
Great reaction! Love this video, I can’t even count the number of times I’ve watched it. Thanks for appreciating PTX, they are awesome musicians.
I'm here, from Republic, Mo. Thanks for all the great music!
I love seeing Unc get down with this.
You should check out Pentatonix's "Run to You," one of their originals.
I love this daddy react as if he just a little boy who met a toy he really2 wanted during xmas. It is so precious 😄❤️
Sorry. No EQ. Recorded live on an iPad in the bass’s,Avi, closet. They received their 1st Grammy for this.
It was recorded in a closet, but it wasn't recorded on an ipad. The audio quality is too good. They used an xlr microphone, which you can't plug into an ipad. Maybe it was recorded on a laptop, but not an ipad. Also, there was eq. Maybe not a lot, but was eq, just to make the quality a little better. That's just how music production works.
Have you heard their version of Bohemian Rhapsody? Yes it’s a cappella and it works.
love your energy this was amazing :D
this is the first time I come to your channel & if ALL your intros are like this I am HERE FOR IT!! my man, your talented & you have blessed my ears with JUST your intro today, thank you!!!
Wow.... thanks so so so much 🙏 man... this makes me feel so so good ... thanks always for watching 👀 peace ✌
Just phenomenal... Another great react, OG.
I had a blast viewing this and your reaction
YOU GOT BASS SKILLS. GO AHEAD. YOU, MARK KING, JACO, STANLEY CLARK, LEWIS JOHNSON, LARRY GRAMM, FLEA ECT..... NICE. YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT MARK KING, LIVE AT WEMBLEY 1986 BASS SOLO. HE KILLS IT. CONFUNKTION, BOOTSY, YEA. YOU FIT RIGHT IN THERE. MAJOR PROPS. GOD BLESS YOU.
Yo man that opening funky bass rift was kickass. First time here I'll be back!
Niiice, glad you were able to react to something like this. Deffo something unique
This was so fun.Your my favorite.Thank you.
I have that same Squier bass. I love the phenolic fretboard, and the eq switch designed for slap is really great.
Best intro on CZcams!
Maaaaaaaan i f love your energy and your attention to details
I find it really interesting when a PRODUCER can sot down and really enjoy a song, LOL. His reaction was certified GOLD :)
6:09 IM CRYING lol This is literally always me trying to go deep like that hahahah
A live intro? Bruh, that was awesome!
Intro is lit..... 🔥
Watching from Pikeville, Tennessee. Love 💕 your reaction. Have fun 👋😺
I thoroughly enjoyed your intro!
Since Ben Bram won a Grammy fo this as well, for Production I honestly think he was who put it together on the technical end? Recorded and put it together per their vision for the video? Pentatonix has quite a lot of vlogs on their Official Channel showing them working out ideas they come up with during Arrangement sessions and then once they have an arrangement you often see them gathered around Ben (while Ben is on the piano) trying out their ideas and saying "what if..." then suggesting something he thinks might work better when it comes to his area of expertise in the actual recording of an arrangement and putting it together in a way that they can perform it live exactly as it is recorded. And they'll say yeah that's a good idea or how about we do this? And it goes back and forth like that. I know they've had other videos shot by other companies but Ben is their main go-to guy when they've come up with an arrangement and want to run their Arrangement past the person who's going to be recording it And putting it together. He's become an expert in the industry of how to record acapella musicians correctly. It's so fascinating to me
He's definitely an unsung hero. I don't know if pentatonix would be where they are if it wasn't for him.
watching from New Zealand mate - love the intro
Gave the like when I heard the intro for your channel! It’s great!!!
What an intro. Lovin' it.
Well since you were wondering in the beginning. Arboga-Sweden is my home town
I love his reaction
