This was the first of three Grammys plus two more nominations for Grammys. Pentatonix Kiss From A Rose will hopefully be their fourth Grammy later this year!
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for Pentatonix! They truly deserve all the recognition they've been receiving.
This was their first Grammy.
Love Again is similar vibe, but it is an original and Avi and Kevin absolutely kill it!
Definitely check out their recent cover Kiss From a Rose!
Lady is Kirstie, which rhymes with "thirsty'. Blonde baritone is Scott; Mitch is brunette tenor/countertenor fashionista; Kevin KO beatbox, cello and another high tenor; Avi (long hair, often a beanie) was the original bass. Matt Sallee, who also plays drums sometimes, stepped into the bass role in 2017. You saw him sing third in PTX "Sound of Silence"
Daft Punk was a French duo who specialized in techno/EDM style music. Their career lasted nearly 30 years, and they never appeared on stage on in videos without helmets or masks covering their faces - their identities weren't known for sure until after they broke up in the early 2020s.
This mashup from PTX has 7 Daft Punk songs: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, Around the World.
I knew I had heard of them before.
@@OLDMANHUDA They've got some good collab with The Weeknd. They also produced some songs with Kanye on the Yeezus album
Their first grammy! Also they have originals as well. Enjoy.
Love your rewind moment!
thats dope.. heard they shot this video for $400!! what a deal
Also if you don’t know. Every sound your hearing they are making. Check out this version of it to understand Pentatonix daft punk mix private performance
its amazing how they do that!!
Another mashup I like is New Rules x Are You That Somebody. You wouldn’t know that they were two songs.
Im going to check it out
The high voice is Mitch. When you get surprised by his singing, you are Mitch Slapped. The lady is Kirstin. She is an alto soprano which is a very wide range. Scott, the tall blonde, is a baritone but ranges from bass to tenor. These three sang together in high school as The Trio. They formed Pentatonix by adding Kevin, the beatboxer and Avi, the bass. Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over as bass.
I appreciate you highlighting the unique vocal ranges of each member. It really adds to the dynamic of their performances.
"Alto soprano" is really a term Scott made up when introducing Kirstin, but it actually describes her range very well! She is technically a mezzo soprano, but has always been able to reach into alto range when needed. As she has matured, her voice has gotten somewhat deeper and warmer, so she can cover pretty much anything a "normal" alto could cover - but she can still hit those highs when needed, as she did in "Seasons of Love" from a couple of years ago, and "Please, Santa, Please" from last Christmas.
Avi also has a 5 octave range that people forget about because he mostly does the bassline.
The one with the angelic voice is Mitch Grassi. He is so amazing. We pentaholics have a love for Mitch.
i love his voice!!! it is so beatiful!!
@@OLDMANHUDA Mitch has solo music under his Messer persono. Maybe one day you will get a chance to check that out.
Pentatonix does rap also, check out "Can't Hold Us" (Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cover). Great Reaction, subbed for PTX.
ok I will .. getting on it now!!!!
The songs are Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder Better Faster Stronger
You say you like Rap, R&B, Rock & Roll, Country". Pentatonix does all of those and many many more genres. They have Grammys in Ballet, Country & Western, and electronic music (this one). They are the only acapella group that has ever won a grammy singing a song with no words, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The one that you say has "The Voice" is Mitch. He is one of about 10 counter tenors known in the world with a 7 octave voice range.
There has been one change in people. The original bass was Avi, the guy with the beard, from 2011 to 2017. He left amicably and was replaced by Matt in 2017.
All of the members agreed that they can pursue other singing opportunities as long as it doesn't interfere with their commitment to Pentatonix. Kirstie sings quite a bit for Disney, Kevin sings, plays the cello, and beatboxes on his own social media, and Mitch and Scott formed a duet group called Super Fruit that has some fantastic music videos. I believe they call themselves Super Fruit because they are both gay. Scott is married and Mitch is single.
Here is a quick down and dirty video about each one of the group: czcams.com/video/n30-eB6tt_M/video.html
You're right, Daft Punk was a group (they just broke up recently). This is a medley /mash-up of 7 Daft Punk songs: Technologic; One More Time; Get Lucky; Digital Love; Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger; Television Rules the Nation; and Around the World. The solo by Kirstin Maldonado is from "Digital Love." The high tenor is Mitch Grassi, the bass is Avi Kaplan. The arrangements are by the group along with their long-time collaborator, arranger Ben Bram, who is credited on the Grammy this won.
There was a band called Daft Punk, a duo who did mostly EDM. This song was a medley of Daft Punk songs. Actually, there were 7 songs.
Happy to see you with Pentatonix again 😁 You're enjoyment is infectious and I cannot wait for you to see more of what they can do. They won a Grammy for this in 2014 and they've just been getting better their entire career.
More to come!
His name is Mitch
This was filmed in their very early years. They won a TV competition called the Sing Off and was supposed to have a label when they won but the label dropped them a week later. So they got creative and did their own thing....They made this video in the apartment closet and kitchen and only spent $400....and they won a GRAMMY for it. Legends!
The super crazy thing is they do this live. You should check it out....mad skills
Yes Mitch’s voice is special! They really are spectacular at mashing up songs! Speaking of Mitch and Glee he was on Glee as one of the performers when they had a competition. lol. Please check out their 90’s dance medley, I think you’ll love it.
Another similar song is
Love Again with great costumes!👍👍👍👍
Watch some of their live stuff to see they are just as great live! I suggest starting with AHA! and POP SPRING. The most recent great live one is KISS FROM A ROSE. It shows how they have matured as a group and watching the process of their growth is amazing. To hear Kevin sing, check out IMAGINE. To hear their lightening speed rap, check out CAN"T HOLD US. And on Kevin's channel check out DOWN.
Yep, you're officially a Pentaholic now! You're going to love it!
I always have to post this to new reactions to this video:
Mitch: I found a great sweater to wear!
Scott: I'm going as Jack Frost!
Kevin: I'm doing Geordi La Forge from Star Trek!
Kirstie: I think I'll be an avatar!
Avi: You guys are gonna wear clothes?
El DeBarge! Give me some Rythm of the Night all day long! 😅
Loving your reactions!
They made this video in Avi and Kevin's apartment. It cost them $400.00 to make and they won their first Grammy for it.
That's dope.. i love a move like that.. what a ROI
Wish people would stop saying this. It took them $400 to film and record in the apartment *after their planned studio time fell through* - not because they couldn't afford it. Then their raw footage and audio tracks were professionally produced into the video we see here, presumably for whatever the going rate was at the time. It was also just about 2 years after the original contract fell through - video was released November 2013. Yes, it sounds really cool, but it's 75% untrue.
Do a search for Daft Punk side by side. It's amazing how good how Pentatonix did with this mashup. They really deserved their Grammy.
I definitely remember El DeBarge and it’s great to watch someone new find Pentatonix, welcome to the club
man the voices are legendary!!
thry are my favorite accapella groups ever to grace the planet they are angels sent from heaven
The members of Pentatonix
In this video we have, in order of first appearance:
Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), the clean shaven dark-haired guy who keeps singing "One more time," is a natural contratenor with a range of just over six octaves. Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, said Mitch has "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Mitch moves seamlessly between chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice, and all the other members of Pentatonix agree that he's their best singer.
Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. Scott is the guy with white hair and eyebrows; normally he's blond but he'd recently decided to bleach his hair when they made this. Scott's range begins somewhere in the middle of a normal bass range and extends up through a normal tenor range. When Pentatonix's bass has a solo Scott can and does take over the bass's harmony line.
Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, bearded white guy, is a lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo (his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances), but his range extends upward to about the middle of a normal tenor range. Avi is also the only member of Pentatonix who is no longer with the band; he resigned in 2017 for a variety of personal reasons, but he's since gone on to have a very successful solo career. I highly recommend subscribing to his CZcams channel: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic
Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, the only woman in Pentatonix. Kirstin can sing anything from low alto through coloratura soprano, and she has fantastic whistle notes on top of that. Recently Pentatonix has begun describing her as an "alto soprano."
The fifth member of Pentatonix is the black guy wearing the visor: Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Somewhere there may be a better beatboxer than Kevin, but if so I've never encountered him or her. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper and an excellent dancer. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on the cello and once on the saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place.
Not in this video: Avi was succeeded by Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass, who has now been with Pentatonix longer than Avi was. It's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing. To find his current range I recommend listening to a recent live stream of "Hallelujah," though you should probably watch their official video of "Hallelujah" first so you can hear what it sounded like with Avi singing the second verse. You can find the recording with Matt here: czcams.com/video/FqphhPapkoc/video.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL
Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, and it will blow you away. His lowest notes don't blow out speakers (though they may do so in a year or two), but on the high end he reaches the upper end of a tenor range. I believe he has the largest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present.
they won their first of 4 grammy's for this... :). keep enjoying the rabbit hole... ;)
Your comment was "Whoever came up with that mashup was dope" - their arranger, the sixth (non-singing) person, is named Ben Bram. You hear five voices but you also hear Ben's talents. All of the singing members CAN and DO their parts of arranging for the group. But Ben Bram often has his hands in the mix.
My guy, that was such a great reaction! I throughly enjoyed that.🎶💕🦋
check out their newest one- "Kiss from a rose.." featuring Kevin (the beatboxer) Cello-boxing!
Welcome to the rabbit hole.... Btw. PTX doesn't do covers..... They do Upgrades.
El DeBarge!! OMG!
So much fun watching you discover this group - keep the reactions coming!! :)
Love seeing how much you enjoyed this PTX Song ...
They have an Original song, "Love Again", which is also ADM (A capella Dance Music) ... I think you might enjoy it!
I remember El DeBarge, surprised me when I found out he did "Who's Johnny" from Short Circuit.
Just commented under your Sound Of Silence reaction with some suggestions, and then I see you posted a new one lol
And in Amazing Grace, you can hear how beautiful Mitch’s voice is in a lower register
Oh & 2 suggestions to add would be 90’s Dance Medley & Dreams (by the Cranberries)
The Prayer is a must...The Prayer
TALENT !
Love your reaction ! Yes if ypu keep exploring their music Seems every cover amazing. . Their my favorite group. . This was taoed in a members apt bathroom and used their pantry to cut it together and developed it all them selves, ive heard it cost them total of @ $300 for everything. And this was their 1st

Oh no matter your colir race relgion $ stats music brings us all together and sir you know goid when you hear it. Keep having fun and i will keep watching !
Mitch first guy you saw, and Avi the bass have referred to as generational voices by Ben Brahm, unofficial 6th member and arranger for PTX.
⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡⚡
El in the house!!!!❤❤❤ Pop Spring is a great mini concert with original music
It's a mashup of Daft Punk songs...
Thanks for the reaction!❤
Subbed for more Pentatonix
Mitch is the soft voice
Love your reaction to PTX. You should do their Evolution of Michael Jackson, or do the Pop Spring performance, it has 3 original songs and the Michael Jackson Evolution. Then you can see how good they are live.
Please check out their covers of "Havana" and of "Say Something"
The "new" guy was actually their 1st bass but had to leave in 2017. Love Matt but Avi was like hitting the superbass button. Daft Punk Medley for sure.
You must react to their Imagine cover ❤
Your reactions are so fun! Loving how much you are enjoying my favorite group 😊. Mitch does have a one-of-a-kind voice- I LOVE his voice the most 💜. You’d probably really like 90’s Dance Medley. New Rules x Are You That Somebody, La La Latch and Pure Imagination xChristmas Time is Here are 3 excellent mashups. Subscribing for more PTX fun!
If you want to see some fun rap and see what we call Babytonix, (early in their career) check out their version of Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Pentatonix cover is a blast.
All Daft Punk songs...Kanye sampled DP (without their permission, btw). So PTX didn't put Kanye in there, it was still Daft Punk.
My good sir, you MUST check out Daft Punk! They have so many good songs! Also, this should technically be called a Daft Punk Medley, as the uses a number of songs from Daft Punk.
some of the songs in this include:
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
One More Time
Around The World
Get Lucky
Technologic ((I think? I need to listen to them again, myself...))
Phoenix
Digital Love
Also, some of the songs (One More Time and Digital Love) were on an album that was made into a full anime movie, Interstellar 5555, done by Toei Animation!!! - The movie and album share the name. I love that movie so much!
Bass is Avi and beatboxer is Kevin
Mitch…you have been Mitch-slapped!
i love those little video clips you insert! la la latch is another excellent mash up. mitch, with the high voice, can go much higher; he can rap too. check out their cover of 'problem' at the 3FM radio station, done live in studio, to hear mitch rap. i love their original music too. they can sing country, pop, k pop, religious/christmas, songs in other languages, plenty of songs with other singers/groups. half of their music i wouldn't listen to but their spin on it draws me in.
Glad you enjoyed it.. i love their music as well. very talented group
Do we have another pentaholic inbound 😁
Indeed you do!!
Check out, The Prayer, Imagine.. please
Totally dig the content. Technical point: the video you are watching is set to a low quality. It stutters and drags.
He's not new. That's Avi. The only bass singer until he left the group and Matt took over. The beatboxer, Kevin doesn't do bass at all...only the kick drum.
It's funny in your intro you say "I love all type of music" but you don't know who Daft Punk is...LMAO... MY NAME IS OLD MAN HUDA AND I LOVE ALL MUSIC BUT TECHNO....lol
