This is the opening theme from Heathcliff, captured from DVD. Enjoy.
NOTE: Yes, the "Please Remain Seated" shtick was done a very long time ago. At the time they were ok-ish, but are now obviously cheese-incarnate. These intros have since been removed on all newer videos, so if you run across an old "Please Remain Seated" intro, I already know that they suck. If you want to make a sarcastic comment about them, at least try to make it a clever one: I can take a good-natured ribbing with the best of them, but comments suggesting that I should do away and/or have relations with myself will only be removed.

@@shaydowplay7992 Mel Blanc was the voice of the original bugs bunny and looney toon characters in the 1930s and 1940s. He passed away in 1989 at age 81 and if he was alive today he would be 114 years old. Heathcliff was his last role performed in the late 1980s and was actually cancelled due to his passing. They did manage to create 86 episodes however.
Cause of death was emphysema due to smoking

He went from perfectly recalling his experiences as a veteran of the Greek Civil War (1946-1949) to not being able to recognize his family or to remember his own name. I was born in 99 and used to watch this, probably because foreign cartoons were still a novelty so we got whatever, the theme was so catchy my grandmother remembers the tune even if it's a strange hard to pronounce name for our country

I found it fascinating that Heathcliff and Riffraff never meet other than the credits. One of those What-If moments that will be left to our imagination.
I vaguely remember one or two episodes where they do, but they wanted to keep the stories separated so they could have their own style

They did meet before and they was about to fight
The reason they never met is because DiC Enterprises made the Cats and Company shorts BEFORE they acquired the rights to Heathcliff. The whole show was intended to be just the Catallac Cats sans any sign of Heathcliff. But it was eventually decided that the show would sell better with a known property, so they got Heathcliff whose rights had just gone up after the cancellation of the Heathcliff and Marmaduke Show by Ruby Spears.

This song has been stuck in my head my entire life.
So many 80's kids here reveling in their childhood nostalgia, but despite being born Y2K, I myself hold this to a special place in my heart too. Enter 2004, when DiC (Creators of this masterpiece) did a Promotional Collab with General Mills. There were 5 different DVDs you could get with 1-3 sample episodes of 1-2 of their cartoons packaged with cereals. This was bundled on Disc 2 alongside The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3
I remember it perfectly too, I was a 4 year old kid, having just moved from Las Vegas to Panama City (Florida) because my father was still active duty. I'd gotten this out of a box of Cinnamon Toast crunch and watched it for hours upon hours in that TLF apartment. I'd watched it so much it actually stopped working about a year later
All this to say, DiC made something special with that promotional stunt and this series, bringing forth multiple generations through both general hijinks and being a total hood pimp

I used to love to watch this when I was a kid back in 1988-1989.
Heathcliff is Garfield's brother. He was trained in the ways of gangstership, and managed to make a gang. However they are doing a race or contest of some sorts in which no one wins, because it never stops. He also made us realize that he could win this contest with us. Heathcliff overall is a weird cat.

The artists who created this cartoon are the same people who created the Inspector Gadget cartoon. Thus, they came up with the ideas for 'The Gadget Mobile' and 'The Mad Mobile' both in which I always wanted a chance to drive for myself when I was a kid! Coming up with the idea for the vehicle in this cartoon was probably pretty easy for them!

TruTV aired reruns of Heathcliff during the early 2010s. I remember watching some of these episodes as my dad was getting ready to head off for work.

the lyrics make perfect sense if you ask me. they simply flew over your head as a kid and adult.
the first part of the lyrics simply describe heathcliffs character and the second half describes or summarizes the plot and antics involving all the cats in the show.
the last line" he should realize he can win it with you". To give an educated guess, its refering to the viewership of the shows rating as the show heathcliff can only succeed with audience watching.
I always thought this was the best theme song, but the last line "You should realize he can win it with you" seems rushed and a complete non-sequitur. It's like they wrote a longer ending and the producers were like "we need to shorten the theme song", so they just chopped it off and threw in that line.

I loved watching this growing up. Is it just me, but I feel the more simplistic the time period was the more fun it was. When I was a kid, born 88, kid in the early/mid 90's. This show was on an old VHS tape that my Dad taped for me. Our parents did cool things like that, and we didn't worry about picture quality, we were just like ``Heck yea! Thanks Mom and Dad!'' Life was the bomb back then. Video games were exciting, but simple. Technology was expanding, but it was simple. No political correctness, but we didn't go overboard with it either. We had pristine quality animated films like ``Land Before Time'', ``Aladdin'' and ``The Lion King'', but with the awesome retro shows of the day like this one, ``Scooby Doo'', ``Smurfs'' and ``Inspector Gadget''. Remember we too, we grew up in the era when 2 of the biggest video game characters were gaining popularity, Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, both of which had their own shows ``Super Mario Bros. Super Show'' This was another I watched on VHS and ``AoStH'' and ``Sonic the Hedgehog Saturday Morning''. Good times when we were kids.

Yea, but I didn't watch Captain Planet that much. Most of the cartoons back then didn't worry about being PC. Captain Planet was one exception.

it didnt start getting bad again till social media became a thing in around 2010-2011
Its just gotten worse every year to the point pretty much every thing sucks and isnt enjoyable now.

@@ArkonBlade I think too that you don't care as much when you're a kid. You don't realize you're getting the woke narrative. A lot of 80s and early 90s cartoons had moral of the day segments. They often centered around global warming themes. I honestly don't find them offensive if I watch them today. It's simple stuff like don't litter, don't cut down all the trees, etc. But the stuff today... terrible.
I remember this theme song from my childhood days, and that was well over thirty years ago. Catchy. Memorable. Fun times.

A NICE MEMORY OF MY CHILDHOOD in a lovely decade known as the '80's. I used to come home from school and watch this everyday on channel 2, then flipped over to 31 for He-Man, and Channel 20 for SuperFriends.
Oh I so fondly remember this show! And Cleo was an absolute babe!
It's something that I tell people, non-verbal cues can convey so much personality even if the character doesn't look human at all. That's why classic Disney has such a strenuous focus on eyes and facial expressions.
I'm watching reruns on Pluto tv. As a kid I never realized how high maintenance and demanding Cleo and Sonja were to heathcliffe and riff raff

True enough, Heathcliff was the last major, original character ever voiced by Blanc. In the 1980s, Blanc was called to reprise some of his older roles, such as the Looney Tunes characters, Barney Rubble, and Cosmo Spacely, but had few other roles. Blanc died in 1989, and his last (posthumous) role was the voice of Spacely in "Jetsons: The Movie" (1990).
Seeing this intro really drives home for me how much animators avoided pandering in kids' cartoon shows between the 1950s and the '90s. They basically made these cartoons for themselves, and kids enjoyed them anyway because they were still funny and colorful. Just look how much pop-culture reference stuff (most of it nostalgic or geared for adults) went into HEATHCLIFF: besides Hanna-Barbera's TOP CAT (alley cats depicted as hustlers), they also paid homage to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS (humanoid cats in leg warmers) and FAT ALBERT ('70s-style hats). What a popcultural education I got watching this! As Walt Disney said, "You're dead if you aim only for kids."
As a very young child, I still vividly recall thinking the lyrics were "Heathcliff, Heathcliff, wally-woo, terrifying, stinking poo". We used to sing it all the time, lol.
I remember reading on a cartoon forum that originally the intro was going to have different lyrics (but the same tune). I can't remember all of the original lyrics, but the beginning was something like 'heathcliff, heathcliff, you're so cool. heathcliff is an anim-ool. heathcliff, heathcliff, is a cat. heathcliff's real proud of that'.

Back in the early 80s when this was on TV, a lot of us were coming of age, feeling love and romance for the first time. But we still liked cartoons and every day, if we were lucky, WPIX-11 would give us....HER! I meant lucky cuz she wasn't in every episode, but when see was, HALLELUJAH! I mean, JUST LOOK AT HER!❤❤ Boy, she sure made us feel all warm and tingly inside. Believe me, it was hard NOT to have crushed on her. She was the cartoon girlfriend you wish you had. Yes, we all grew up, but we'll never forget that wonderful feeling, watching her mince across the tv screen in another crazy adventure!
