The cops in this road have been on heightened alert because of recent numerous fatalities there due to idiots street racing with tuned cars.

1.) What authority does HP have to check the car
2.) How would an LEO know wtf is illegally modified by looking at it.
Probably the lack of a front plate gave them grounds to pull them over.
Probably looking for an aftermarket exhaust system without catalytic converters, that would be illegal..
If they suspect you of having car mods they can ask to look. But if you refuse I think they can have your car towed so they can get a warrant to look anyways
@@captainsparklezx13from what ive heard you can’t refuse when they ask to look under your hood, because it’s considered a roadside inspection (CHP has authority to do) not a search. but they need probable cause or a warrant to look inside the car

Naw its in Ukrainian gas tanks right now
He's enforcing the law, it's his job. And those particular laws are there to help keep the roads safe and not a race track.
He literally only checked for a catless down pipe. Front license plate was purely an excuse to pull him over since he had no other probable cause. If that license plate was on that bumper this would have 100% been an illegal stop just to check for modifications. These money grabs are getting out of hand, CA is running out of excuses to bother enthusiasts. That’s why they always sound so fucking giddy giddy n happy just to “check under your hood for a few seconds”. Always trying to play the nice guy, fuck off CHP. @@SpeCifiC0507okay bootlicker, he pulled him over for missing a front plate and that led to him looking for illegal modifications. Definitely saw a nice car that he thought might be modified and targeted it
I left California and moved to Michigan in the mid 1990's. Since being here I have never been pulled over for any modifications on my cars or motorcycle.
The thing is - him doing a visual check is just for downpipes. Either full downpipes or LDP he can check to see. But that is only if the owner decides to get cat-less downpipes. If he got aftermarket downpipes wit cats, it'll just look stock. The other thing is - most cops are just profiling cars. They pretty much go after specific cars that just look "racer". If you are in a M car, Civic Type R, Subaru, and etc... they'll pull you over just cause. You are more likely to get pulled over in a blue M2 than a highly tuned BMW M340i sedan.

Nice to see a channel driving HWY 9 and Skyline Blvd. That sucks to know cops are hanging out there now. You used to be able to mob those roads without much fear of cops sitting around unless it was a holiday or something. I love the Santa Cruz mountains for driving as there’s so much variety - you’ve got Skyline if you want fast sweeping turns where you can maintain a high average speed all the way to the tight technical roads like Page Mill. Starting at HWY 92 near Half Moon Bay, I once drove Skyline to HWY 9 and down into Saratoga in 22 minutes… in my fathers Lexus ES330. Not exactly a pinnacle of performance. Ahh to be young again.

Same thing happened to me way back in 2006. I had just purchased a brand new subaru sti and on the way home from the dealership I was pulled over for illegal exhaust and equipment. I had under 20 miles on the car. I was ticketed even though I tried to tell them it was new car un modified... I followed the officer back to the station and walked in and explained the circumstances to the police chief and all ticket were thrown out then I filled formal complaint on the officer for harrassment and sued him for unlawfully detaining me.

He said he was out there looking for reckless driving.. Yet pulls you over for no front plate, which is the dumbest thing to pull someone over for. This has to be Cali. I would never move there. I wouldn't have even gotten out of the car. He has no idea what he's even looking at under the hood.
Failure to comply could lead to revocation of your drivers license and/or seizure of the car. Operating a vehicle on a public road is not a constitutionally-protected right - your license and registration come with terms. Just like you can refuse to take a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer, but in most states that's an automatic forfeiture of your license. If you wanted to drive your car away from that scene, you would've popped the hood and got out.
"I don't think there's anything but we're gonna take a gander anyway" wow.
It’s funny because actual criminals would not drive around in bright blue so the fact that they pull over so many cars to check for loud exhausts is crazy, they have to suspect you of a crime not try to create or find one
The stop for the lack of a front plate is a legit seizure. After that - at least in California - the officer is free to inspect the vehicle for anything under the state vehicle code, including emissions equipment. It's no different than if an officer in your state walks up and checks the expiration date on your inspection sticker. The only difference is that California law says he can get under the hood to inspect. The trunk and the cabin would intrude on 4A rights, but an inspection under the hood does not (again, in California).
"I don't think there's anything but we're going to a look anyway" This cop is out of his tiny mind. You should have outright refused that on the spot and taken him to court if he forced the issue. The settlement alone on 4th amendment violations would have more than paid for the time and trouble.
Cop could have towed his car to search under the hood later after he got a warrant. Legally, it doesn't count as a search, it's classified as a road safety inspection.
@@HazyTown01I'm sure that's what they call it but it's looking in your stuff, period. How no one has challenged this yet is beyond me. Cop flat out stated he didn't think the guy did anything wrong. That doesn't meet any criteria at all for a detainment and search of anything. Detainment and search are both very clearly defined legal terms, regardless of what a bunch of circus clowns in a local or state legislature voted on.
@@HazyTown01i dont see how he could have towed his car. all you tell him is you dont consent to searches. the engine is under the hood which means he would have to go into the car to inspect the engine

Had the same thing happen to me when I first got my 2004 STi, 1st year the STi came to the US. Brand new, no plates, all stock. CHP pulled me over in stop and go traffic for modified exhaust and looked under my hood for mods. Albeit the stock exhaust was considered big at the time. Let me go after 5 minutes of asking if I modded in any way.

"I don't think there's anything, but we're gonna take a gander anyway". Leave it to the CHP to outright tell you they have no probable cause but inconvenience you with a search anyhow. They know full well this state is so anti-car that they can do anything they want to screw with motorists.

As a non-American, I just feel there's no point in buying a sports car in America. You're only going to get yourself tickets, headaches, and trouble with the police. Whatever opportunity to enjoy the car will be promptly ruined by the cops. Better to just drive around in a small-engined everyday gas-saver and leave your petrolhead pleasures for when you travel to Germany and have the opportunity to haul ass on the Autobahn.
That's stupid logic. Getting pulled over here isn't nearly as common as it seems and even when you do get pulled over its not that much of a hassle (provided you don't live in California). We have some amazing roads here and 95% of the time you can still fully enjoy the car without being caught by police.

Hes talking about the G forces. Normally 2nd gear pulls harder than 3rd which pulls harder than 4th. In cars with larger turbos or boost by gear setups it is the opposite to a certain point. Btw, the new M2 is one of my favorite new cars. I do reject many of the tenants of the new design that exist for BMW profit that will fail like clockwork. If you take a deep dive into the architecture of the car design...I am an automotive engineer, that car taps all the bases on high part replacement costs as it gets out of warranty. Replacing the instrument screen will likely be $3K and it will fail at some point. That is design intent.

The “like” counter was off the scale here. Like omg 😂
Bro in the passenger seat is like stop talking dang
Per Findlaw:
“Police may stop an automobile if they possess a reasonable and articulable suspicion that the motorist has violated a traffic law.
If the reason for the stop is a minor traffic violation such as speeding or a faulty taillight, the officer likely would not be permitted to search your car without more reason. However, if police arrest you for conduct arising out of a traffic stop, a search of your vehicle will usually be reasonable. This is called a search incident to arrest.”
The stop was definitely legal. The stop can be used to check for plain view signs of another crime. He’ll look for any signs of impairment, plain view signs of controlled substances, weapons etc. But in this case he saw nothing that gave him a reason to suspect that the car was violating CARB. Note he never mentioned excessive noise. There was no Dinan sticker on the car. He had no PC for anything beyond the original stop.
Thats one thorough cop!
