What blows my mind about so much music from back then is that so many bands would have these crushing, metal-like songs, that were WAYYY different from any music that came before-hand, and then the same album would have an incredibly soft and beautiful song on it. It was such an incredibly experimental time for music.

  • @sherryheim5504

Brian tears this song up! John is thumping the bassline, the drums are perfect throughout and of course, Freddie's voice is great as it always is. The best way to start an album. Queen chose the order of their songs on their albums with a lot of attention to detail because they believed that an album was to be listened to from start to finish and it should be a logical progression.

One of my favorite albums for sure. Their 1st seven albums have been in my regular rotation since the late 70's. The production is pretty raw on the 1st album, but the 1st through the 5th are all chock full of the no-holds-barred "Bohemian Rhapsody" vibe. The 6th & 7th start to veer into more traditional territory but still have a very healthy dose of Queen's traditional flair & originality. And their's lots of good stuff in the rest of their catalog, but IMO the 1st seven are classics.

Brighton is a town in England. This album is absolutely killer. So glad you hit this. I love Brian May's guitar work here. So cool how he plays with an Echoplex and does harmony lines with himself. Too much.

It's Late is your next Queen track. Been trying to get y'all to do that one since the dorm room days. Get your shit together and do it. Promise you won't regret it.

I remember on the album cover it said "No synthesizers were used on this album" because of the guitar tones used. I saw them on tour opening for Mott the Hoople. Didn't know much about them then but I sure liked what I heard that night. Great stuff.
