    People don’t realize that Brian May is a shredder. On their earlier stuff I’d say his guitar work was showcased a little more than most of their “glamorous hits” people usually hear on the radio…but make no mistake, the guy can really fly through the neck of a guitar and he is one of these most accurate guitarists I’ve ever seen

    This was Brian's baby. Yes, Freddie sounded great on this (Brian gave him a great lyric too), but everybody shines here and the energy is infectious. The part where it's just drums and guitar and Brian kicks in that EchoPlex just floored me as a teenager and I had just started my first band (I was 14 when it was released).
    Thanks for this reaction!
    BTW: Does everyone notice the whistling at the beginning is the tune at the end of 'The Seven Seas Of Rhye' from the end of Queen II?

    A few years ago I was in a guitar store and the guy behind the counter told me that he thinks that Brian May isn't really able to play guitar. I didn't even argue. I just nodded, smiled and hurried to finish the stuff I was there for. Never argue with morons... Smile and wave. Smile and wave
    BTW. it's not just Freddie. Every single member of Queen has written hit singles. They were all fantastic and they all could play multiple instruments. Except maybe Freddie, who mostly played the piano (and similar instruments) although he has played guitar on Crazy Little Thing called Love despite only having basic skills. Please don't focus on Freddie so much, Queen was a band comprised of geniuses.

      i hear/see a lot of deep purple, sabbath and zepplin sneer at Queen as if they are irrelevent, Queen can be mentioned alongside any band in rock history and are more versatile than all of them, sabbath could'nt come up with seaside rendezvous or good company, Queen could do anything, on stage they could play the most gentle accoustic or blow the roof off with something loud and heavy, as roger once said we liked to blind them and deafen them in the first 10 minutes 👑✊🇬🇧

    Freddie was indeed a genius. But so were the other members. All 4 had input into a songs recording (with some exceptions). Although the song writer would wield the most sway. And since all 4 of them wrote songs the recording studio could become a warzone. They would all fight tooth and nail with each other. But like true friends do. You brush it off and move on knowing that it was all part of the process of creation. Queen was especially guitar heavy for the first 2 albums. Then slowly started transitioning into more radio friendly music. But every album still had a good hard rocker or two. Brian was nicknamed the Governor by Jeff Beck for all the amazing guitar riffs he created. High praise coming from such a respected guitarist as Beck. Cheers!

Queen, Deep purple, Sabbath, Judas priest, Rush, and Iron Maiden were the push and impetus in this paradigm shift of the early 70s to late 70s. It took intestinal fortitude for these gentleman to forge ahead and tell the record labels "We know what we are doing" and we cannot be shaped to what Colombia, RCA, Capital, and Decca, want us to do. It was a non violent but powerful revolutionary path they hewed!

    Queen’s members all graduated from British Art Colleges ......in many early Queen songs they used words I never heard from any rock songs pre Bohemian....their studio albums were too complex to duplicate live either because of vocal or instrumental parts of songs...because of this when seeing them live in the seventies it came up short of perfection....one example in doing Bohemian during the Momma Mia part of the song that was all pre recorded....Kenneth

    When you say ''and Freddy says lets do this 'n' that'' Brain May (guitarist) must have written half of Queen's songs. You can spot them. They tend to be heavier. Surprise.

    Freddy was great but he now gets too much of the credit since he passed and moved into legend. Every member was important. Example, this song was not the “genius of Freddy”. It’s a Brian May song.

    • @shaggyisbae
      @shaggyisbae Před 3 lety +4

      Exactly, A lot of Brian's credibility diminishes for the sake of Freddie being a legend.
      He did a great job on this song, but Brian just killed it.
      Same could be said for Roger and John, they deserve equal recognition as well.

      @@sergeinester6261 I guess sooner or later _ALL_ artists kind of run out of gas when it comes to originality & creativity. That's okay though. Queen packed more quality into 8 (or 9) albums than any other band(except _maybe_ Zeppelin).

    • @ZENOBlAmusic
      @ZENOBlAmusic Před 3 lety

      They did not go commercial, music is always changing, they changed with it. They always still did rock songs well. Even Hot Space still has a hard rock song. Queen always experimented with different genres and styles. Even Queen II has 60's sounding pop songs. Innuendo is one of Queen's best albums, The Works is also a good album. Queen were always experimenting with ideas and sound, not everyone likes funk, R&B, vaudeville or pop but music does not automatically become bad when you add those elements. Hot Space for example was very unpopular, it was somewhat of a commercial flop at the time. But it was actually a big experiment and risk that the band took, people were burning disco albums and dance music albums at the time, there was a big movement against that type of music, so it was not done for commercial reasons.
      Funny enough these days Hot Space is Queen's 5th best selling album.
      There are a lot of people who love Hot Space these days, it is not my favorite personally, but it depends on which style of music you like. If you don't like a lot of different styles of music, then you will not understand everything Queen did. But on the positive side Queen has at least one or two songs that anyone can enjoy.
