Hey guys! Hope you liked the video!
Alex will be back next week for the Queen Video!
We will be doing Queen at Live Aid, neither of us have seen it, and we are more than excited to check it out, cheers my friends! 🔥😁
Told you you'd like Brighton Rock - Mustapha! is another great track, unlike anything else you will have heard.
When are you going to do 'In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited'? Maybe up your Queen to 2 or 3 tracks a week? After all there are 189 by my last count as well as many more unreleased tracks by the band and live performances too.
Oh man, you are in for SUCH a treat! 20 minutes that changed the history of music, hell of a way to see them live for the first time - brilliant choice, looking forward to it.
Steven Nodlehs
I probably won’t do 3 a week because then it won’t be as special, and I wanna explore other stuff on the channel! I definitely feel ya though!
Ian Wright
Yeah man I’m excited! 🔥😁
I personally think Queens first 3 album (before Night at The Opera) are very underrated gems and they deserve more people listening to them than the their more popular songs.
I was around when they came out. Myself and friends would cruise with them blasting out of speakers at deafening levels from eight track tapes.
Queen II being the best of all the Queen albums
I agree, Queen II is a great album!
Couldn't agree more.
one of the reasons I love this song is the way Freddie just transitions from falsetto to his usual strong voice
Great to see someone listening to the album tracks rather than just the greatest hits. This is where the real Queen songs are.
its little wonder the general public say "Queen are over rated" when all they're hearing is radio ga ga and break free, there is amazing songs in the back catalogue that the public don't get to hear, and lets not forget that Queen are actually a heavy rock band who can rock out and be as loud as anyone out there 👑✊🇬🇧
@Andy & Alex
I took a tape to the office one day with "Brighton Rock" on it one day in 1990, and the girls in the office only knew Queen from their more recent, more softer, more commercial albums. Then came this track and their minds blew away ! One said "Wow ! I never knew Queen could play such hard stuff!" - I said she hadn't heard anything yet ! ❤
This song really showed how such brilliant musicians Queen were, and actually still are. Brian May on his magic lead guitar, John Deacon' s bass guitar was fantastic and Roger Taylor on drums was phenomenal - and that is not even mentioning Freddie Mercury's vocals ! This is extraterrestrial, it really is ! Queen for ever !🙌😘😍😅
what else did you serenade the ladies in the office with? 👑✊🇬🇧
It's just so awesome watching someone take so much joy from listening to these tunes for the first time -- your reactions remind me so much of my own first discovery of these tracks and it's delightful. Thanks for sharing, man. It's always a pleasure.
The Applesauce Project
Hey friend I’m glad you like it! I loved the song a lot! I love making videos for you guys, cheers friend! 🔥😁
U gai
I'm a newbie to their old stuff too. I was a young kid when they started and never really knew much about their songs. I've only had their greatest hits albums before. I've started listening to their old albums now. They're even better than I realised. Fantastic band 😁
Well I first heard this ironically at a fun fair in 1976, slightly confused with the start, but was blown away. Sheer Heart Attack / Jazz and U2’s Unforgettable Fire i have brought this on vinyl, CD ,tape so many times the most purchased records ever. And because these are timeless classics
If you want a drum solo listen to “Keep Yourself Alive” !!!! The drummer, Roger Taylor, can even sing !!! So Try !!
Millie Ruppé
Awesome!! Thanks for letting me know, cheers!! 🔥😁
Millie Ruppé ALL of them could sing! I love roger's super high falsettos though!
Good choice - especially if he goes for this version czcams.com/video/kjdT2xeOYJk/video.html
@@Fitzroyfallz - All the dog's come running when Roger hits those falsetto notes.
I'm surprised your critters on the bed didn't go berserk!
Yep!! Check it out
One of my favorite early Queen songs. Excellent mix of guitar, bass, drums, Brian's solo was phenomenal. Your reaction was spot on. This song is pure rock. The abrupt ending on the LP leads right into finger snapping....Killer Queen! Another masterpiece. No one song the same. 🎹🎶👍
i live in Brighton. it's often called 'little London by the sea'. i first came her to attend university as a mature student in '83. i loved it so much i stayed. it's got loads of colleges and so lots of young people. plus it's where Londoners come to party. it's the gay capitol of the UK and 'alternative' people are almost the norm here.
This was the song that hooked me on Queen! Brian uses 2 echoes (originally a tape loop called an Echoplex) to repeat the original riff in the same way Freddie later did vocally in The Prophet's Song, building up harmonies. Listen and try to follow the original line! In concert this often went on for 10 minutes. Still love the raw energy of the original though!
Ian Wright
Damn that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing I’ll have to try that! 🔥😁
I'm so glad you reacted to this because it's a less well known queen song but one of my favourites! All of them are amazing musicians! My favourite song from this album is Misfire, which is rather short, but very upbeat and great! One of the reasons all their songs sound so different is because all the members compose songs
That's right, it's not just the guitar on this track, it's the whole band, and I especially like the drumming here. The song was used in concerts to make room for Brian's solo which he took in different directions and probably improvised a lot. He used the delay effect extensively.
And yeah, Mustapha! Won't be the first reaction though, somebody did the whole Jazz album already :D
Polux Saurus
Thanks for the background on the song a bit, and damnnnnn somebody told me I’d be the first, oh well haha, cheers friend!! 🔥😁
@@andyandalex lol I told you, when you would have been the first! BTW it's possible you'll still be intrigued about it even after hearing it :D
Excellent tune. "Brighton rock live at Earl's court 1977." The solo is twice as long and even better
John Duval
Awesome! Thanks for the tip! Cheers friend! 🔥😁
Freddie is singing both male and female parts in this song in case you wonder why he is singing high and low. Body language next. Robk Reacts has done Mustapha
The Queen & toy collector
Gotcha! And damnnnn somebody told me nobody has done it!! Oh well lol! Cheers friend! 🔥😁
@@andyandalex he is doing full albums, he is up to the Game, The Hero on the Flash album is a good heavy rock song
Great album, this is the first Queen album I ever got, I was 10 years old, I it got for Christmas 1975. When I was a kid, my whole life was Queen, Pink Floyd and Rush, it was an amazing time for music
watchtheskies
You grew up with the good tunes my friend, cheers! 🔥😁
How nasty was it to have Night At the Opera and 2112 coming out so close together? We were beyond spoiled.
Ditto
The Live Killers version is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the record version.....Brian May basically channels god, lol
J C
Damn!!! I’ll have to check it out, cheers friend!! 🔥😁
Yeah dude, in the live killers version Brian has an echo effect on his guitar that is insane, you'll definitely be pleased, lol
J C the live solo is better, I quite the studio version for everything else
Hammersmith
I love this, love this, love this song! The sheer joy and complexity of Dr. May's mind is encapsulated in this song. May is my favorite guitarist and probably my favorite musician. Glad to hear some real respect for Roger Taylor's drumming. No one talks about a drummer's range. Think for a minute of the range of his styles across the multitude of genres and he always sounds musical, it always makes the song fuller, and it is always displays exquisite taste! Thanks for reacting. I would recommend Dead on time and Stone Cold Crazy for some more hard Queen.
parkviewmo
Thanks for the thoughtful comment friend, I enjoyed it! And thanks for the suggestions! Cheers! 🔥😁
Brian refers to Rogers drumming as musical too and I think that’s a great description. He brings so much to each song with his drumming and vocals.
Brighton Rock is so AWESOME!! Check it out live too! AMAZING!!! Brian May is straight up a rock god!
This song is Brian May's baby. It includes an unaccompanied guitar solo interlude, which used delay to build up guitar harmony and contrapuntal melodic lines. The studio version only contains one “main” guitar and one “echoed” guitar for a short section, but live, May would usually split his guitar signal into “main” and two “echoed”, with each going to a separate bank of amplifiers. He played this at nearly every concert and in later years the guitar solo got even longer to give the band a break. This song is not as much about Brian's guitar abilities as it is the music innovation. No one else could do this because they didn't have the "Deaky" amp. that the bass player, John Deacon invented. Thanks for the love, my friend.
Tom Crawford
That’s awesome man thanks for that backstory! And no problem I loved the track, cheers friend! 🔥😁
For many years I thought the fairground sounds at the start were a Queen invention however my brother showed me another band (I think from late 1960s) that used the same sound.... so it must be from some sound library..
@@neilloughran4437 Three Dog Night?
kdbadk three Dog Night ❤️ I’m having Joy To the World at my funeral.
@@kdbadk Would love to know the track!
I love to watch you listening, it's like a whole new experience, loving it all over again!
The more you listen you more you miss this group.
Queen really flexes their muscles on "Let Me Entertain You" and "Dead on Time". I think you will enjoy both songs!!!! Love your channel.
Yes to "Mustapha". It has a Middle Eastern feel about it. Most of it isn't sung in English. Freddie was raised in the Zorastoran faith and it comes out in this particular tune!!
Darrell Waller
Awesome thanks for those suggestions, and sorry for the confusion, I’m gonna our up a video for Live aid next week, and will do mustapha the following! Glad you like the channel, cheers man! 😁🔥
Great choice. One of my all time fav Queen tracks.
As is the case with most Queen songs there is the literal sort of interp and the secondary interp - a song about meeting on holiday - the guy has a fling with a girl - and gets back but can’t continue the relationship - in case his lady discovers what he did on his holiday. :). But who cares the Brian v Brian delay solo is the gold.
Just listen to as many queen songs as you can. You can tell straight away which member wrote each song, yet no two queen songs are the same
Anna Jackson
That’s awesome, loving the journey so far!! 🔥😁
Then you’ll love the rest of all their underrated songs, the majority of which are fantastic.
Thanks for putting the album cover up so I could stare at it 😂
Eleanor Walker 2004
Haha no problem!
The live versions are even more involved. Oooo Mustapha! Great!
Now you see why Brian May is a guitar virtuoso! Hey Roger is also one of the best in the world ever.
We’re having fun now! 😁🤪🥰
Peggy Henderson
I’m thinking I’m going to do live aid next, and then mustapha the next week! 🔥😁 but yes they are legendary! 🔥😁
Looking forward to Mustapha. You touched on every Queen song being different. Well.. Strap in and enjoy the ride. Appreciation!
Dark_Helmut
Thanks friend!! 🔥😁
The song is about Jimmy and Jenny on holiday meeting and falling in "love" at a fair. Hence the fairground noises at the beginning. Jenny's parts are sang in Freddie's high register. Jenny falls in love with Jimmy and writes him letters. Jimmy replies that he must "away" because if his wife found out he would be in trouble.
Simple song by Brian that showcases his "guitar choir" where he overdubs guitar parts numerous times to get an almost choral sound. Every album prior to "The Game" boasted the fact that no synthesizers were used, but the overdubs made it sound like maybe they were.
And, yes, you are correct about Roger Taylor. He can drum! And has a beautiful singing voice.
This is my favorite Queen album. It's so diverse and, in my mind, is the point where Queen becomes the Queen we all know and love. Stick to this album for a bit. It has a lot to offer. "Stone Cold Crazy" will blow your mind.
But, if you are doing "Mustapha" then I am on board for that. Fast song that will put a smile on your face. What Queen song doesn't make you smile, though?
Peace
Bryan Burton
I’ve heard a lot about stone cold crazy! And I think I’m actually doing live aid next week only because I just saw the movie and want to review the real version while it’s still fresh in my mind! Will keep doing these older tracks though, cheers friend! 🔥😁
Bryan Burton I’m pretty sure it was Brighton Pier hence the name Brighton Rock or it’s an image to the book
hold up I thought actually that jimmy and Jenny were kids lol
This was a driving song and when it came on the radio someone would invariably yell out "Crank it!"
you haven't heard "flick of the wrist" yet!? it's only 2 mins long ... "A dig in the ribs and then a kick in the head ..." :-) keep on exploring queen!

For your own pleasure, do listen to the Live Killers version of this, which includes a timpani solo as well :)
Mustapha is indeed a very interesting track, looking forward to your reaction!
Happy holidays to you Andy :)
Jorma
Thanks a bunch! 🔥😁🤟🏻
As a lifetime fan of Queen, the Live Killers album was my first introduction to a lot of their earlier tracks, including Brighton Rock. Jorma is completely correct in that the Timpani drum solo addition added so much to the guitar solo interlude. Keep the reactions coming.

Queen at the rainbow 1974 much better show or houston 1977
@@andyandalex ..Mustapha isn't 'all that', actually. It's all right, but it's a 6 out of 10 when it comes to Queen ( IMO, of course).
Dead On Time... very good guitar riff
Martin Zemko
Thanks for the suggestion friend! 🔥😁
Woah more instruments were played here...great talent queen...nice to see this in their concerts..
Did you know that Brian still plays with younger bands from time to time? Like, one time he performed The Black Parade with My Chemical Romance (and was naturally the best thing about that performance since they aren’t the best concert band BUT that song was partly written to honor Queen and the lead singer incorporates a bunch of Freddie’s moves into the performance so that is tear jerking). Brian also wrote some stuff recently in honor of his work with NASA on the New Horizons probe.
Well done again, my friend. I really enjoy the fact that you do those not so well-known songs. I personally love the older Queen stuff. And I promised I would keep nagging you until you finally do White queen, both studio version and the Hammersmith 1975 version...so here I go: do, do, do!😉
Btw, looking forward to your Mustapha reaction although it is definitelly not one of the best Queen songs. But is surely original. And yes...don't believe people who will try to tell you it is in arabic. It is total gibrish which just sounds arabic (with some real words only).😎
Pavla Gebouska
Thank you very much!! And I will get to white queen for sure!! Don’t you worry!! 🔥😁
Yeah, early Queen is the best Queen ... well, until 90s Queen😥.
please react to It's Late or All Dead, All Dead.

It’s Late. Sublime, just sublime. Can never play it just once. It always goes on repeat. It’s possibly my favourite Queen song in an impossibly tough competition.

Or their thrash metal one Stone Cold Crazy. Before thrash was even cool lol. If it ever was haha
🤓I’m a full on Queen nerd. Mustapha love it ! Not only does Queen rock opera they chose from all musical genres and incorporated them into rock. Mustapha rocks middle eastern music. You can pick any music format and Queen has done it.
This was always Brian's chance to shine in live concerts. The rest of the band would wander off stage, get changed and have a beer while he noodled with a loop machine. Good times!
Every look on his face is dynamic and funny. He is genuinely enjoying Brian's guitar run. This is the ''reaction''.
Roger Taylor is amazing on drums and his vocals are awesome as well. Brian can seriously play guitar, he's amazing. He plays his guitar in different ways, but he has a very distinctive sound. It's almost like his guitar has a unique voice that you can tell is Brian May's guitar playing. Another good song to play is March of the White Queen. His guitar is mesmerizing in that song. I think you will love it. I've only listened to the live version from Live at the Rainbow. The song as a whole is awesome, with Freddie singing, performing and playing piano as well.
Freddie would definitely appreciate the cat! Lol.
You remind me of my nephew listen to this.... Your reactions are priceless to this being your first time with this song. Yep you're hooked.
I love how this guy enjoys listening to queen's songs.🤟
Man I was raised on Floyd and Queen and the like. I can say with some certainty that I have never heard this before. That guitar solo was epic. There's an interview with Brian May where he talks about his guitar and its sound. Think he said its to do with extra pick-ups that he installed while building it. Apparently he designed and built the guitar with his dad in his dads shed. I'm sure someone on here could tell you more than I could on the subject 😁
A H
That’s awesome man, I’ll definitely have to read up on it more, cheers friend! 😁🔥
@@andyandalex totally right Brian and his dad built the red special and brain built in pick ups and other things thats why the sound is so unique
Bri also plays with a sixpence coin, not a pick. They are no longer made but a few years back arrangements were made to recreate a sixpence, but with Brian’s head on the face of it, instead of Queen Elizabeth.
I reckon she didn’t mind much as she had Bri play “God Save The Queen” on the roof of Buckingham Palace during her Golden Jubilee in 2002. Roger Taylor and the rest of the musicians stayed down on the ground to accompany him, which was a feat in itself. It had to be timed precisely because of the distance from Brian, otherwise it would have sounded terribly out of sync.
Queen have done a lot of great music throughout all their albums, but they did two original albums that as a whole are their most outstanding, Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera, and they both really need to be played from start to finish for full impact and effect. Though Opera is commonly considered the better of the two, for me Sheer Heart Attack is their masterpiece, up there with the very best albums by any other artist, ever. My recommendation, Andy, is that you play that album all the way through (Brighton Rock opens it) for an experience I guarantee you will never forget. It'll blow you away like it did to me when I first heard it. when it was released 44 years ago. And it still does
Wonderful and exquisite!!🤗
Lmao this guy bopping his head to carnival music, made me subscribe instantly.
Fantastic, one of my favourites by queen; also remember alot of digital delay on 🎸 😀👍

Hey friend I’m glad you enjoyed the video and like my comments and faces haha! Posting Live Aid next week! Very excited! Cheers friend! 🔥🔥
Thank you for giving Roger his due. He usually gets ignored by reactors. In fact he could sing an entire song using his falsetto and he would still be ignored.
Just discovered you guys, love watching your reaction to songs I grew up with, Brighton Rock is one of my faves
The echo system they used on the guitar in the main solo is the same system they used on the vocal part of Prophet Song
Queen is a lot more than their pop stuff they play on the radio.
i can understand why the haters say Queen are over rated if all they are hearing is radio gaga and 'break free, there is so much more to Queen than the stuff that went into the charts! 👑✊🇬🇧
I always liked Queen’s harder rock and it was a great day when I heard this. I get a lot of flack for saying this is what Eddie Van Halen heard and tried to do.
Queen, king of thrash!!
Awesome video, probably my favorite song of all time, or at the very least my favorite by Queen. Really like your content man
If you liked that version of Brighton Rock you're not going to believe what Brian does with it on some of the early live recordings.
Then try finding Brian May's early instructional videos on how to play it live using reel to reel multi-tracks. I saw them live in Liverpool in the 70s. Still the best concert I've ever been to. Never thought I'd ever find myself cheering on an insane rock version of the Three Blind Mice nursery rhyme.
Queen doesn't ever want to repeat things, they want to change it up for every album. They are professionals and they have a lot of ideas between the four of them and each of them writes completely different styles of music. Brian likes hard metal type rock, though with that said some of his pieces are so soft and beautiful. Roger is totally rock and roll, John has his own style and Freddie is all over the map with what he likes but he writes mostly ballads about love and pain or so he says. Freddie also said in an interview when asked how much music does he write? His answer: "About 12 songs a day." Can you imagine the songs by him that nobody has ever even heard?
Glad you u enjoyed that. It's a simple song about a seaside romance ,a bit of back and forth between two lovers. While I appreciate it, it's far from my favourite Queen song ( I find it a bit too self indulgent ) but as you say it's something different again.
richard scales
Thanks for a bit of the explanation, and yeah it’s not my favorite but I definitely enjoyed it! 😁
Hahah, indulgent. Well, they were very young.🤣
Having 4 different unique song writers in the band gave Queen a huge edge that most bands dont have. It helped give them so many songs that varied between the 4 members music tastes.
you are hearing the best band ever, with the best voice too¡¡¡
The ending of the last track on the previous album Queen II which is "7 Seas Of Rhye' is an old British song called 'I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside' which dovetails into the start of this track which is the sounds of a funfair at the seaside, which is what Brighton is, a seaside resort. Clever buggers that Queen huh?
I sooooo love this song!
take it from this old lady if you like this you have to listen to brian's solo in the live show Hungarian Rhapsody. Tha t is so cool
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the guitar during the solo is not double-tracked, it's played live on an echo effect pedal, so that he's playing against himself in real time. This is just blow-your-mind in the Live at Wimbledon version.
The guitar solo is incredibly amazing and probably Brian Mays best solo, but Freddie’s vocals on this song never really get talked about.
queen yes i love them brilliant music
herman janssens
Yes this song was great! 🔥😁
If you like Brian's guitar, check Brian May's Starfleet Project. It's only 3 songs. The title track is a cartoon theme song, the other two tracks, Blues Breaker (a jam to get use to playing together) and Let Me Out. It's Brian May and 4 other musos, including Edward Van Halen and Phil Chen on bass. I think it is at the end of Blues Breaker, if you listen close enough, you hear Eddie's top E string snap, but he still finishes his solo on the other 5 strings.
It's great seeing your reactions and reliving these songs again for the first time!! Great channel!! I'll throw in a recommendation for Seven Seas of Rhye. It's the song that made me fall in love with Queen.
The chorus parts of the guitar for some reason make me cry, also "it’s so good to know there’s still a little magic in the air"
The official video has lyrics. Highly recommend.
durban73 37nabrud
Hey thanks! 🔥😁
Hey Hey, your facial expressions are priceless !!!! I gotta tell ya, you like this , you have to seek out Liar Live 1975 Hammersmith Odeon. Brian and the Band take the paint off the walls!!!
Michael Roberto
I like the studio version of Liar, I’ll definitely have to check that out!! Cheers friend! 🔥😁
oh yeah, of course the studio version is great, live though they take it to another level. Freddie always said that a live show show be something different than the studio, people can stay home and listen to the records so they would give 120% live. And you dig Roger Taylor's drumming, wait till you see and hear this version :-). Cheers back at ya!!!
The live version is so much better and totally worth it
Notice how Roger Taylor's brilliant falsetto transitions to Freddie's vocals on the word magic in the early part of the song - Roger sings "ma" and Freddie cuts in with "gic" - clever stuff.
Believe it or not, that's actually Freddie singing both parts. I read a detailed discussion on the song awhile back and it explained the transition. Watch their 1986 Wembley show. There's a vocal solo by Fred where his falsetto is even higher. Blew me away.
no way, that is all freddie's vocal, nothing to do with roger 👑✊🇬🇧
Andy, youremind me so much of myself. When I was your age Queen was my favourite band and Pink Floyd my second.
Class tune xx
Written by Brian May, “Brighton Rock” tells the story of two young lovers named Jenny and Jimmy meeting in Brighton on a public holiday. Mods travelling to Brighton on bank holidays was a popular narrative at the time (see The Who’s Quadrophenia).
The song includes an unaccompanied guitar solo interlude, which used delay to build up guitar harmony and contrapuntal melodic lines. The studio version only contains one “main” guitar and one “echoed” guitar for a short section, but live, May would usually split his guitar signal into “main” and two “echoed”, with each going to a separate bank of amplifiers.
Original Working Titles for this song were: “Happy Little Fuck”, “Happy Little Day”, “Blackpool Rock”, “Bognor Ballad”, “Southend Sea Scout”, “Skiffle Rock and Herne Bay”. Session engineer Mike Stone is the likely culprit of some of the titles, though the band members themselves frequently employed working titles during the song development process.

As a side note, it may interest you to know that Queen's guitarist, Brian May, holds two PhDs in astrophysics, and when he's not doing music, he works for NASA. He headed the New Horizon mission; an unmanned probe that was the first fly-by to Pluto, Thule Ultima, and is going to be the third man-made object to leave the solar system and enter interstellar space.
NASA was saying "We need to build a piano size machine, send it to a planet 3 billion miles away that we never visited, travel for 9 years, fly past the planet at 38,000 MPH, take hundreds of photos, get all the data possible, and then fly further into space and visit things we barely know are there before traveling toward the stars and still collect data along the way."
Brian May said "Hold my beer."
Hi Andy. Would also recommend 'Now I'm Here' from the same album, as well as the opening two tracks on Queen II (as they blend into one) 'Procession/Father to Son'
Now I'm Here Hungary 86...John and Brian go at it
If you liked this studio version Andy...You must listen to it live. There is a drop dead cut of it on the live album 'Queen Live Killers'
