Even with your clear, articulate, lovely explanation I had to watch these a few times to understand things.
Thats intended to be a compliment to you and an homage to this bear of a game.

Great job breaking down the Defensive fire and Advancing fire phases in a very clear and concise well explained way. The Defensive fire phase is one of the most complicated rules structures in the game and you made a fantastic effort breaking it down, bravo

Just a minor correction, at 14:26 you state that subsequent first fire is prohibited when crossing a hindrance. I'm not sure where you are drawing this from as subsequent first fire can definitely be fired through hindrances with the applicable modifiers as it is only normal range and closest target that must be adhered to

In your example of the Advancing Fire phase, you talk about underlined firepower getting the Assault Fire Bonus. It would have been better, to have a sample counter where the fire power is underlined, rather than the range. This might confuse newbies with the underlined range for spraying fire.
    Really enjoying this series, thanks!
    Warm regards, Rick.

one addition at 17:09 when talking about the Defensive Fire Phase proper, All infantry smoke will have been removed at that stage and units will be affected accordingly

Help! Just getting into ASL; what rule book should I buy? Is the pocket edition complete?

The pocket edition is for Full ASL. I believe it has everything in it. The full rules are much more complex. These Starter Kit rulebooks use a simplified rule set and introduce unit types in each set. Set 1 is infantry. Set 2 Ordnance, etc. It's designed to give you a staged approach to learning.
