We asked the locals of Edinburgh what their favourite food spots in the city were, from filthy street food to traditional Scottish classics. They gave us an extensive list. So we went up for a couple of days to try as many as we could. As well as drinking our way through their favourite pubs and bars. This is the Only Scrans guide to Edinburgh.

On the "haggis alays gets a bad rep" thing, I have found that almost 100%, those who have tried it, love it. Those who have not tried it, hate it.

I live in Edinburgh and have been a few of those places. Did Bucks bar two weeks ago it was AMAZING!! Did the hotwing challenge and won the hat and had the chicken burger with the blue cheese it was insane! If your coming back, bring ur golf stuff and I’ll take u to Dalmahoy for a round m8.

In the summer you should try the Beach side eateries at Portobello. Civerino's have a shop down there called Civerino's Slice which is extremely popular. They sell the massive 1 slices of Pizza that you get in the US.

The best pint of Guiness in Edinburgh is definitely not where you'd expect it, its in the Western strip bar.
Also for Sports bars you can't look past Footlights which has previously won Scottish Sports bar of the year multiple times.

When we first started drinking, 20 years ago, our go to place was Globe. Double jack and cokes for £2.50, how could you go wrong 🤣
There is an el jefes near me in GGW and another one at the other side of the city too. Rate their spicy margaritas but it is my favourite tipple. El cartel in Edinburgh is really good and I would say is better for Mexican. I’m excited to try the place with Chicago style pizza next time I’m over that way. I’ve been to Chicago a few times and the pizza pie there is just nothing like I’ve ever seen here. Thundercat in GGW have a Chicago style one but it’s not like the ones I had in Chicago. Be interesting to see if Edinburgh has a better one- they must do something better than us 😝

“The pint in here was just over a fiver, very reasonable”….and this is why I’ve not been out to the pub in nearly ten years. I’ll be 40 in December and in my early to mid 20’s I could get pissed and a taxi back home for £20 all in, even now a crate and a munch costs about £25 and I have the luxury and comfort of my own home lol
Me and my mate tried everything except el jefes and makars. Great recommendations all around all though oink was very disappointing. Just dry pulled pork basically. Civerinos lasagna tho. Pfff wow that tomato sauce was so good. I’ve never eaten something with tomato sauce and thought that was the best thing. Wow Blown away. I’m trying my best to replicate it at home😅 from copenhagen btw and Big ups for this review
Kays bar is the best pint of Guinness in Edinburgh. The video was good but a lot of these places aren't where locals would go, apart from Civerinos.

It's great to watch you guys eat and drink your way around my hometown. I love seeing your admiration of haggis, truly a flavor to be loved or hated, I love it... wish I could get it here.

What do you mean - "nobody comes north of the border"? Edinburgh has more visitors than any other UK city outside of London. The population literally doubles during the Festival and the Christmas Markets, mainly visitors from England. And these days, the city is also busy through the rest of the year as well.
