Baja: Edge of Control HD - PS4 (Honest Review)

- Today, I'm going to be reviewing the 3 year old game Baja: Edge of Control HD for PS4. Even though this is a late review maybe it will help you decide if you would like to get yourself a copy if you haven't heard of the game yet! I hope you enjoy the game play of Baja!

The career mode is really the highlight of the game, you can get sponsors, purchase upgrades, overall it's much more content packed than just racing.

I feel like this game was so far ahead of it's time ...the maps are huge and for back then the physics are pretty good
I played this game just 6 months after I was born, it’s my childhood love for baja that kept me playing. The game has so much in it and it’s still a really old game (the non-hd) and even though the steering for the first time is strange, you get used to it and it’s not as challenging or frustrating as other newer games like DiRT5 or Need For Speed.

That game is based on the annual race they do in Baja California is the biggest non stop off road race in the world, the Baja 1000 search it up
Its based on all aspects of baja not just the 1000
If anybody is wondering, I’m almost done with the career. I’m playing on easy (they only give you easy or hard) and I’m playing in a Series X my thoughts are:
The game is the closest thing we’ll get to another Motorstorm. It’s more arcade than simulation in regards to physics (in single race mode, they offer simulation as an option, but I didn’t notice a difference).
It’s probably because I’m playing on easy, but they give you so much money and it’s very easy to fully upgrade your car early and you still have enough left over to buy your next one.
I like the vehicle damage. It adds some strategy to the race. Should you stop at the pit now or wait for the next lap? Will you be able to catch up? Etc. My only problem is the AI rarely if at all stop at the pit which would put you at a disadvantage. How is it that my truck is beat to hell and their’s isn’t? It hasn’t been a huge problem, but I’ve noticed it in the later races.
Rubberbanding hasn’t been a problem. I can count the amount of times it’s caused me issues on one hand. Again, this is easy mode. Not sure about hard.
I love all the different vehicle classes. It’s really different types of trucks and buggies, but they’re all look unique and they all have different styles you can choose from. I don’t think they have unique stats, I think every car has the same stats. I’m not sure. There is an option to tune your car in the garage, but I’m dunno how it works and just ignored it the whole time.
There are tons of tracks. They have different locations and maybe a dozen tracks per location. I’m not sure if the exact number but in career, I seldom race the same track more than once.
There is a free roam mode where you just drive around and they got a few different maps for that. I didn’t spend much time in there but there are some things to discover I think. Not much. But it is fun to just drive around and jump off of mountains lol.
I could hardly hear the music. I had the engine sounds on too high, but eventually I just turned the music off and cranked the engines up. They sound really good in this game lol.
Lastly, the game looks beautiful. The deserts are picturesque, sometimes they got setting suns that bath the desert in an orange light, sometimes they got clear blue skies with dark clouds hanging over the mountains. It looks like a screen saver on a computer lol. The race tracks are covered in tire tracks and give it a well worn look, and the vehicles themselves are nicely detailed. As you take damage, the panels on your cars fly off and expose the roll cage and engine. They come off in square pieces. I dunno if that’s realistic or not, but it does the job well enough. The pieces get left on the track and you see them again the next lap.
All in all, it’s a very fun racing game. It does a good job filling the hole left by Motorstorm and it’s a cool off road racing game in general. It’s not much of a simulator. It comes off as one. If you saw a trailer it looks like Dirt or some other Rally game. But I prefer arcade racers and it’s got my seal of approval.

This. Or what about Smugglers run? I would love that remastered. The split screen was so fun with friends. My kids would love that and I would play too. To me, this game isn't even as polished as the old smugglers run either. And that was PS2!
The HD remaster is on PS Plus Extra now. Really fun racing game.

A live stream doing a Baja race would be cool! Yeah the difficulty in the game can be very easy but when you get all upgraded it's more challenging. An there are some cool cheat codes to like back in the day for it...

I went out and bought this game and I have to say am loving it,so much character in terms of handling and scale, it’s so sad that they didn’t have the time to polish the game I believe with an additional 6-8 month of development this would be an outstanding game! One question how does it feel with a steering wheel?

Great video !! Baja edge of control originally released Sep. 2008 on PS3 & Xbox360. HD released in 2017 for PS4 & Xbox 1 . I like that we have the same Logitech G29 steering wheel , definitely the best in it's class as well as the best bang for the buck 💵 ( works on PS4 & PC, the G920 works with Xbox & PC, however the G29 has more features & buttons on the wheel at your finger tips ). I just love mine , makes drive games and Sims so much more fun & realistic . Great video 👍 keep'em coming 🏁 💪😷✌️🇺🇸 what rig do you have your G29 attached to ?

Yes on the car damage the gauges on your right side of screen tell you what's damaged and that you need to pit. On rally an Baja races when your car is damaged a helicopter will land about a half mile from you an repair your car by pressing triangle button! It's very realistic so don't just go balls out or you'll damage the vehicle lol.y

One thing I don't get about this game. If you play the Baja mode (and probably the rally mode also) and set the opponents to the hardest difficulty you find that all of your opponents are probably going to go a lot faster than you are, even if you limit them to the same class as you, which is fine. However, when you reach the end of a stage the game then tells you that you were a minute or two faster than everyone else. Am I missing something here?
I do really enjoy playing this but the disparity between what you see in game and the end results does ruin the appeal of playing those modes for me, which is a shame because I was quite excited about giving it a shot.

Actually.. I re installed and tried again but not using the stupid vw beetle... the other vehicles in the class are miles apart and actually make it enjoyable
