Missed sin: When they said "its easier to round up CATS than humans"!!
I really feel like he should have taken a sin off for the fact that during the scene where all the baby flerkins are running amok swallowing all the humans, they're playing the song "Memory" in the background. (For those who don't know, that is a song from the soundtrack of the Broadway musical, "Cats" 😂)
😂 My neighbor back on Longisland is Ron Devito he played Rum Tugger for years when CATS was first introduced in Broadway. I worked with him for a few years and I am absolutely sick of that song! He would play and sing it over and over! But not gonna lie I cracked up at that scene. The music fit perfectly. ❤
If cats had a sense if justice they would gather their big cat betheren and slaughter the the creative team behind this move😂

This just might be the first Cinemasins video on a movie that is being released on blu-ray on the same day it's being sinned. Quite impressed with it really.
Because this movie is so easy to sin
Carol Danvers, Nick Fury, Captain Mar-Vell, the Kree Empire and their Supreme Intelligence, and the Skrulls and their Secret Invasion were better handled by the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series.
Also Hulk, Thor, Malekith, Hawkeye, Ant Man, MODOK and Ultron were all better in that cartoon than the MCU.
I need to rewatch it to remember again...
The only one on that list I will argue is Nick Fury. And only in that Pre-Infinity War, or at least through Winter Soldier/Civil War, he's on par with EMH, Fury after that point - yeah.... I don't know what the hell their thinking. I'd even go as far with Danvers that Avengers: Assemble or whatever that one that replaced EMH was called (yet seemed to still share some continuity) did a better job, or at the least made her more interesting basically being Maverick with superpowers.
_Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes_ and _The Spectacular Spider-Man_ are both great series. I'd recommend them to anyone who hasn't seen them, even though _SSM_ was cancelled before it could have a satisfying end.
Facts💯💯💯💯💯💯!!!!! For those who never got chance to experience that show, please go watch it if looking for actual marvel comic greatness before Disney/marvel destroyed our beloved characters.

Yes, the incongruence of the different level of power of Captain Marvel was jolting. Same thing happens with the Force in Star Wars - Palpatine raised a huge fleet of star destroyers from the depths of the planet. If you have that power then you don't need Death Stars etc.
Pretty sure Palpatine didn't use telekinesis to lift hundreds of Star Destroyers.... antigravity technology exists in the Star Wars universe, after all, those Star Destroyers rose under their own power.

@@Vahktang More importantly, why do people think a character having huge powers means it's never taxing to use them? Like, Jeremy asks why Captain Marvel needs a ship. Idk, maybe sometimes she likes having a normal place to sleep and shit and store her A1. Maybe her cat likes having a ship. I'm more frustrated by the fact that the Marvel/Sony relationship means they'll never adapt the storyline where Carnage takes over Carol's cat and eats her. It's weirdly similar to that Ren and Stimpy episode where Stimpy climbs into his own belly button.

He knows she can turn into energy and also control energy. Once her body is made of energy, she can move said energy wherever she wants within space (not space as in stars, space as in the areas around you), hence flight. Its just common sense

@@gingerdog8203 What is "common sense" about vague undefined superpowers received from being irradiated by an infinite stone or by walking through some equally vaguely defined magic hex? It's simply that "flying without wings" is one of the most common superpowers for some reason, along with various degrees of super-strength.

5:24 I wanna add a sin for the explanation of their powers being "entangled" because they're similar to each other. Kamala's powers are explained as manipulating energy from her ancestors' native dimension which she can do because she is half interdimensional being and half mutant. that has nothing to do with Carol and Monica's vague "light-based" powers that they got from messing with infinity stone energy. But the movie basically counted on everyone not having watched the Ms. Marvel show and hey they were right lol
the better explanation here would be that the same energy Kamala manipulates is the same energy being used to create the jump points so when Monical and Carol both touch it yadda yadda yadda. It's still bullshit but I think that's what they were originally going for before they dumbed it down to "they all do light stuff so... yeah."

Well, um, so apparently Noor is the energy Kamala draws on from the Noor Dimension (where her ancestors came from), and it's described as "cosmic, photonic and mystical energy" or "hard light".. so, yeah, light. The hard-light thing was mentioned a few times in the Mrs Marvel show.
I am not saying the movie's "explanation" makes real sense, tho!

The frustrating thing is you could have written that character with 100% less moustache twirling, and she could have been one of the best Marvel villains. Like the dude from the first Black Panther, her motivations are pretty logical, her grievance with Captain Marvel entirely justified. They coulda played with shades of grey, if they’d wanted to. They didn’t want to, and fine, it’s a family movie, but there’s a more interesting path there that they didn’t take.

Killmonger's origin story was good, but I actually thought it was very unclear what his origin had to do with wanting to give high-tech weaponry to street kids or what about his specific history earned that last line about slavery. I feel like he was actually poorly written in a few ways. It just wasn't as obvious because Jordan nailed the performance too well for most people to care. He walks in, says "hello Aunty," and suddenly he's too damn likable to care about how little he's been fleshed out.

And it was so pointless, at that. Carol later explains that the Prince can understand normal speaking tones, so, there was absolutely zero reason to make this movie grind to a halt, so we can throw in a couple of musical numbers (and that's before we get to Kamala and her magic scarf).
Even as I was sitting there in the cinema, I was thinking, "get on with it, hurry up already."
Carol: "Prepare for trouble!"

I feel sorry for Iman Vellani, she entered the MCU during the start of its decline. I hope that she manages to land much better projects in the future, she deserves better scripts.

That joke existed as a delayed response to that shot in Endgame, where all lesser-powered superheroines inexplicably find themselves in one location on the battlefield to needlessly defend the omni-powered Captain Marvel. She immediately zooms past them.
This movie has already stolen scenes from Star Wars, Spiderman: No way home, High school musical and Wonder Woman. There's NOTHING original about this movie😂
Her "needing" a spaceship is because its probably more comfortable to hang around in than just floating in a vacuum even if she can. And she needs somewhere to keep her stuff and the cat. Shes still a person, you try living in an open field with no possessions and nobody to talk to and doing nothing but thanklessly saving people all day lol
Yeah. It's basically her apartment. It seems like just an example of trying too hard to find things to sin to appease the people that wanted them to roast the movie. Another example was acting like it was impossible for her to 'really' be super in busy just because she was taking a rest at the time.

I can't believe you missed the most obvious sin: The Marvels have an enemy with a bracelet that can absorb Captain Marvel's powers to become WAAAAAY stronger; they also have a team member with the EXACT SAME BRACELET, and at no point do they consider maybe charging up that one.

I had a teacher who said that if you can't figure out how to make your movie good, you should do a 180 and work twice as hard to make the most irresponsible movie possible. The singing thing bothered me because I immediately thought "does scatting or beat boxing or rapping mean they're saying something?"
Or what if someone dressed up a really sinister message in a really upbeat happy-go-lucky sounding melody? Or likewise, how about dressing up a pleasant message in a really ominous and gloomy sounding melody? In either case, wouldn't they just simply hear the words of the message and understand you correctly because of the simple fact that they obviously understand and use the English language? At most, the musical cadence delivering those words would probably make them suspicious of your message. But I get the impression that they would definitely understand the words you used.
Anyway, yeah... Plain and simple, the bottom line is that their singing is not inherently a language on its own. Singing in English does not make it a different language from speaking in English. They're using English words to communicate either way.
You want to present them as having a language of music, then make it a wordless language where meaning is encoded into every deliberate choice of which pitch / tone / rhythm / etc. that gets used. Like a more natural sounding version of the kinds of beeps that the droids in the Star Wars universe can use for communication (which in that case is meant to be binary code converted to sound waves). They could have made the aliens a race of bird-like people and had the language sound like bird song, or they could have made them a race of dolphin-like or whale-like people and had the language sound like dolphin or whale song. It didn't have to be just humans using a human language.
Living in that planet must be like living in a Juardiance commercial hell all day everyday forever.

Idk Captain Marvel sure has started a lot of conflicts and left millions to suffer. Sin for sure.
Space is big. Travelling across space between jump points, even if you could travel near light speed, takes a lot of time with nothing else to do. Also, when a ship is travelling through space, it appears to be standing still.
While surely Carol even with her big missions and mission statements needs the occasional moments to destress, eat, sleep and plan out her next steps (and play with Goose), the travelling times seem a bit inconsistent in the movie, when they seem to be doing fairly well to arrive at their destinations within a few hours when the plot requires it (jump points help, tho, even if these may not be spread out evenly and still leave vast areas to traverse through) and they do not have a training-montage to fill the time with.
Do we know how much time elapsed inside the whole movie? Because, it didn't feel very long (based on the fam skipping their earthly responsibilities and hanging out on the space station, but also the rushed'ness of the events depicted), maybe a week or two at most?
Either way, I also would not blame Carol to be caught in a moment of seemingly idling.

Those neon lights are actually LED meant to look like neon, so they use surprisingly little electricity.
Either way, it's daylight and they are not illuminating the room in any helpful way. So I think the sin still stands, but at a much smaller scale. Perhaps .1 sins rather than a full sin.
It's not about how much electricity is being used, it's about how stupid and useless it is.
Sin missed: Someone thought it would be great to make the Villain have silver embedded in her teeth, made no sense. Also why are some Kree blue and some not?

I know this is like- all jokes. but the "None of this makes sense" sin can literally be given to literally every movie that isn't 100% grounded EVER. That's such a nothing sin. Besides that though- The only thing that saves this movie for me is Kamala Khan. I can really tell her actor is loving every second of being in a Marvel movie

Because they yanked her original one and gave it to Carol Danvers.
Correction: They gave it to Mar-Vell's son and then eventually Carol Danvers.
In the comics, she was known by a number of names: Lady of Light, Spectrum, Daystar, Photon, Pulsar. Pretty sure they mentioned at least two of those in the movie (Lady of Light and Pulsar).

Is no one gonna talk about where the frick the giant hand at 15:20 came from? Kamala doesn't have the bangles, they're literally floating in space in the shot
Almost worse is that IF Kamala could do that all along, why have Monica go out there without space suit in the first place and undercut the previous tension of Monica sloooowly catching up with Carol, when Kamala's hard-light fist was faster?
It was explained that the bangle just activated her powers, she is wearing it for fashion reasons now.

I really liked the idea of forcing Captain Marvel to face the consequences of her “I’m going to solve every problem by blowing it up with my nearly-unbeatable powers” schtick. Execution wasn’t great though, kind of a shame cause I really think that was the growth this character needed to become actually good and compelling instead of a faux feminism icon.
Honestly I think at this point it's more impressive how well they have made MCU Captain Marvel a carbon copy of Marvel Comics Captain Marvel. Everyone hates her, they keep needlessly trying to make the character popular rather than just ditching her and replacing her with one of the already popular female characters.
It's absolutely wild to me that the same studio can make something as utterly brilliant as the Jessica Jones tv show, and then make something completely shit like Captain marvel or she hulk. Like clearly you have people who know how to do this right, so why aren't they writing the scripts?
Yeah I didn't feel that she actually _faced_ any consequences? She didn't feel uncomfortable for what she had done, but only annoyed when people pointed it out? And in the end all those planets are magically restored offscreen in one sentence, so neither the Kree (who were fine with their leader deliberately dooming TWO other planets and a THIRD planet along with its entire solar system, instead of using their tech to transfer Hala to a different and uninhabited solar system with a sun and then terraforming it, or evacuating the already dead planet!) nor Captain Marvel really have to feel guilty or be put in front of a galactic court.

I actually thought it was fun and was relieved that it didn't get any Razzie nominations (the Marvel nominations went to Quantumania instead, a movie I'd have a tougher time defending). Flawed for sure but fun.
I'll defend Quantumania on the sole basis that they cast Kathryn Newton. She's fire in basically everything she does. I didn't love some of what they did with her character in Quantumania, but her performance itself was fine.

I have to say that this some of my favorite commentary from you. That is saying something considering this might be my favorite channel on CZcams. I get criticized at a steady rate for how critical I am towards movies and can't help calling things out 😅 as ironic as that may be. I know that deep down, my girlfriend actually hates watching movies with me. Surely on some level she just loathes it. Anyway, my initial point was that this commentary was exceptionally hilarious.
