- Hearts of Iron 4 has some interesting mechanics with the main one being how they handle nuclear bombs in the game. To be honest we all know how bad they are in game and really not worth the investment you put in to get them!

Oh I know all about the history of nukes, and I don't want two nukes to take out an entire country but at least make them be to take out at least a division. And if Paradox is worry about balancing, just make it harder and longer to build nukes. I mean it shouldn't take tens of nukes to take down one single infantry division.

The French Army was actually pretty strong. Their tanks were much better than the Germans at the time. Their manpower was comparable and they had the BEF to back them up. They lost because of terrible planning and incompetent leadership, not because the army was terrible.
France mobilized over one million men in the span of a few months during WW2. I'm aware of all this, I was just referencing the classic "French Surrender" memes.

It wipes out most units in a province and does more for capitulation
Nukes could be the perfect solution for the end-game madness, when u have to fight majors with 600+ divisons in 1948 and ur game runs slow af.
U could just bomb the major cities and and turn down their war support and stability. Or even let them start a civil war if they refuse to surrender

Meh, I feel like the randomness of the nukes makes sense. Provinces are relatively large compared to the size of nukes, especially 1940's nukes. You gotta consider that these bombs are barely comparable to nukes today. Also divisions are only about 9k people like you said. They could be anywhere in the province. There should honestly even be a possibility for divisions to go unharmed when their province is nuked, aside from an organization hit
yeah but with proper reconnaissance you could chose to bomb the wandering armies an eradicate them in one hit, or you could chose to bomb the cities, leaving the armies relatively okay. here it is just...random.

Fun fact about Belgium: Belgium provided uranium to be used in the first nuclear weapons ever used under the condition that they would be used on Berlin. Germany, of course, surrendered before the nuclear weapons were ever finished and so they were used on Japan

Nuclear bombs are not as powerful as you imagine. From a tactical perspective I think Hoi4 has it right. For the planning of Operation Downfall, the US was going to drop 7-15 nukes on the defending forces on X-Day to help in there landing.
They would take damage, but would also not wipeout defending forces tanks, bunkers, entrenched infantry. The other factor is that WW2 troop density is a lot lower than the centre of a major city, there would simply be fewer people in the blast radius. The final factor is that you have to exclude all deaths from cancer, later on, this is of no tactical value.

no, it won't. For surrender to happen there should be someone to surrender to, knowldge who dropped the bombs and that the war will contunie. Dropping 50 nukes into the same crater won't help. Dropping nukes until surrender after you've nuked their centralised goverment and haven't even sent surrender ultimatum won't help either. And lastly, if you don't have forces on their land to actually show to local populace, who's won, they'll just go on with their lives.
The strategic use of nukes is different, we have very little information about there ability to force a surrender. How do they work in Hoi4? Do they lower stability or war score? If so dropping 50 should bring it close to 0, game mechanic wise I think.

but you steel need War Score to force surrender ie your people on their territory. It lowers the amount needed significantly, but you still need to participate. Remember how T-54/55 was supposed to counter absence of nukes in USSR hands with it's superiority in tech and with nigh unlimited numbers?

All you got to do is enable nuke debugging, pause the game, click a unit about 10-20 times with the nuke, and unpause, they will be wiped from the face of the earth! You can also do this to as many units as you want before unpausing

Vanilla nukes are actually nasty in numbers. Air superiority for a brief moment --> air fields in target province are gone, and so is the industry and infrastructure. It is very hard for real armies to keep supply on a front like this in the end game.

If you pause the game and clicke the nuke button multible times it will let you nuke a province multible times instantly and only a few nukes can kill every single division on the province.

by the way if you pause the game from my memory it allows you to drop as many nukes as you like and most units take like 10 nukes to die
ehm one thing, isn't the damage of the bomb changed upon the plane you use to deliver them? I mean I used it as France against germany during my playthrough to get the achievement of holding france with no capitulation till 1948 and whenever dropped on a german 15 to 20 unit stack it added some 120k to the german death count. It was also there I found out that germany can apparently sustain 17.5 million losses and still fight on as long as France is the fricking enemy.

To kill units you need to span 20+ on them, okay maybe more like 10 but you need to stay on one unit at a time and spam it. Or else they get reinforcements and won't die, so yeah, pro tip!
Plot twist! The units are actually to scale and they are barely effected by the nukes because they are each the size of a VEARY large city.
