    i find it funny that where sanctuary hills is in the game, is actually in the middle of minuteman park in real life. the wooden bridge still exists. obviously there is no town in the middle of the park. but the road layout is accurate. maybe you could do a video on fallout locations VS real life locations.

      the problem is vault-Tec is an American compony, so it wouldn't make sense to come out of a vault in, say, scottland yard, but I do think that if the game francise was sound forward a couple hundred years, it would be a story of fighting off foreign invasion. it would make sense for other, more untouched countries to try to take over and recognize america, and I can see that sort of gameplay. However, there is one possibilty. if a fallout game took place in alaska, we could see travle to china, and experience a still wageing war. just a thought.

    I know this is pretty old but I'd like to mention that some nuclear missiles can contain multiple warheads and scatter them across whole stretches with a single launch. Lower yield devices also leave a lot of the radioactive materials that make up the core intact and the blast would spread that material as even more fallout.

    As a point of order, another major deviation between the Cold War of the real world and the Resource War of the Fallout universe was the latter was an actually, long running active warfare that covered large parts of the world. Supposedly even before the bombs fell Europe was a huge mess. And since the fighting was over natural resources, especially oil and the components to create high tech doodads, and the various governments seemed to have little regards to human life of their own people and even less for foreign nationals it's reasonable to assume that the Middle East and Africa devastated by conventional warfare long before the bombs were dropped.
    Basically, it's not accurate thinking of the war leading up to the bombs dropping like the Cold War. It's more like if World War II had ended with a massive exchange of nuclear arsenals that had been built up over decades.

    I have, interestingly, seen a few discussions regarding how the popular understanding of MAD is... not entirely accurate. A _lot_ of the fear of Global Annihilation was really just fear-mongering on the part of the military-industrial complex.
    Basically, MAD was never about targeting random cities and wiping out civilian populations. It was specifically about hitting the other side's missiles and military targets. Not even... infrastructure in general.
    Why?
    Because A.) We never had anywhere close to the nuclear arsenal required to "wipe out all life" and B.) because after you've spent all your nukes... you're defenceless. Conventional military action is still possible. In fact, you don't even fire all your nukes. Whatever survives the first wave then becomes your bargaining chips to try to force negotiations and to defend yourself against invasion if they fail. Because nuclear exchange was never actually about Wiping Their Civilization Off The Map, everybody who lives (and it will be a lot of people, with guns and tanks and bombs included) will be able to look at the aftermath and, say, go "holy shit you targeted civilians like a monster, now that your deterrent is gone we're going to rightfully fuck you up".

    • @mikoto7693
      @mikoto7693 Před 2 lety

      I cling to the logic that nuclear war can’t happen because it’s impossible to wipe out the enemy total nuclear weapons stockpile because most of them are kept aboard stealth subs. Launching nukes absolutely will fuck up both sides. It a terrible fucking idea.

    According to the pre-established lore, as i understand it, the U.S. military actually had china under siege after the battle of anchorage, and were using their new and unique invention of powered armor to decimate the chinese army within their own borders (mr. trump would be proud). This included several military campaigns, including the Gobi campaign (hence the name of the sniper rifle variant found in fallout NV) and I can only assume that this led to china retaliating, with the U.S. following suit, decimating not only what was left of china, but also the U.S. populations that were probably gathering around the major cities at that point.
