- After a year and a half with our first duck hunting boat, we decided that we needed something bigger. So we got a bigger boat! This new boat is a 1648 Alumacraft modified V with a 13hp Honda engine and Mud Buddy longtail. We think this boat is going to be a lot better for us, at least for the next couple of years.

Congrats! I’m curious about seating 4 guys with only one bench. You just sit on bottom or will you be putting in another bench?
The middle seat was removed before the previous owner bought it. I doubt we'll add anything. It's really nice having the entire floor open. The back seat is pretty useless as well because if someone is sitting there its really hard to run the motor without wacking them in the head. The guy running the boat stands up, the other three sit on the floor with their backs against the sides.
When I used to run a long tail I broke that ball type throttle. I replaced with a bicycle brake handle and cable. I think BPS sells the metal handle with the cable for $50
Yeah, like I said in the video, we plan on getting a clutch or brake style lever. I'll check out BPS.
looks like a nice upgrade what's your plans for the 14'boat. Sounds like your duck hunting is a lot like ours, local birds are gone and waiting for a fresh flight of birds to come down.
We're going to try and sell it to make a little money back on what we spent on the 16. But we aren't rushing to sell it. If we don't sell it, we'll keep it for certain situations. Without the motor, it's a good boat to carry into spots.

How fast does your new boat go, I have the same size boat and motor as you that i just bought and im only getting about 8mph without a load. I though it would be a lot more.
We haven't really checked. Our old boat hit 10-11mph with two of us in it and no gear. Our new boat is faster and more powerful. Empty with just me it runs pretty quick. I'd say 15mph.
how does the 1648 handle rough water , does the floor flex much ? thanks
It does, ok, but not great. We are still very careful in high winds. I took it out completely empty across a white capping lake to retrieve a wounded duck. Dumbest boating decision of my life. The floor does flex, especially when the boat is empty in rougher water. If it still had the middle seat it would be a lot more rigid.
what speeds are you getting and how does it ride?
Haven't ever checked it with a speedometer. It's faster than our other boat and that ran 10-11mph with 3 guys and no gear. I think we're probably around 12-13 with 3 guys and gear. It "flies" if its just me in it.

Hey could you do a give away for the old boat? I think it’d be a great idea. Someone who can’t afford a boat and is starting to hunt I think it’d be a great starter boat.
Unfortunately I don't think that will be possible. I'm only a half owner of the boat. Ryan and I split the purchase of the boat.
