I have the 20hp and I get near 28mph+,but I have a pure flat bottom 1648 which is much easier to plane and way more stable then a semi v,I also run a 11 pitch prop on my engine.These suzuki's are so darn nice,quiet. I know what you mean about Pina taking the side cover off to access the oil filter. Good thing is once the 20 hr service is done the next one is 80hrs. You will love your engine,the more you run it the smoother it will get. When you get like 50+hrs on it they tend to shake less and run smooth as silk. I'M thinking of keeping my 20hp for a while then getting the 25hp suzuki which is such a sweet engine. Good luck with your engine.
I just did a top speed and full review video on the 2017 15hp Suzuki. Great engine! I have a 11 pitch prop on a 16ft custom LT10 gheenoe. Top speed with 1 person is 28mph and with 2 people with gear is 26mph. But it's a much lighter skinnier boat.
Tyler,if you want give a guess (how shallow can you go with this boat with the motor tilted up,I hoping 8 inches to a foot,I’m just thinking ahead when my pond I go to starts to dry up in August/September????

Same boat I'm running 1648 alumacraft with 1990 ish evinrude 15 hp getting 24 with gear. Solid setup
did your alumacraft 1648 come with the battery/gas tank cover making it solid in the back behind the rear bench seat?

So depending on the load in the boat, I would say a foot of water is very doable . There is not much draft on these.

Will it plane with 2 people in it? It is a 4 stroke correct?
Chris M yup I had no issues with it planing with two people. Yeah it is a 4 stroke
I have the same motor mine will plane with 3 adults and all my gear but 18 mph is what it runs I have to back off because it hit the rev limiter
