A lot of modern cars that come with keyless entry, can usually have it (keyless entry) disabled by certain button combinations either on the remote or in the car. This immediately stops anyone trying to intercept the signal, as there isn’t one. You then don’t need a faraday pouch / box, and you press the button on the remote to unlock the doors. Hardly difficult 🤷‍♂️
Range Rovers (for example) have had the ability to have it disabled by the owner for a long time, but most obviously don’t do it. I don’t understand why owners don’t simply use this option and remove the threat? Ignorance? Laziness? Arrogance thinking it won’t happen to them maybe?
Yes, an alarm will help, but who looks out the window these days when yet another car alarm goes off? And what are you sposed to do when it does? ... Run out and confront 3-4 tooled up lads with nothing to lose? And in the unlikely event you do give them a kicking, Plod will be around to arrest you, instead of thanking you for doing their job 🤷‍♂️

During first lockdown I had an RS parked on the drive. Keys in a faraday pouch.
Woke to hear banging thinking it was next door. Son came in and said he could see torchlight around the front door. I looked out the window to see a gang of 4 getting into a black Range Rover.
They had tried to break in by forcing the door jamb. And apparently tried around the back of the house.

Expensive alarms *DO NOT STOP THEFTS* - they only change the way something is stolen and in most cases create a far more harmful situation and put the owner at *MORE RISK* from attack to get the keys to deactivate the alarm.
They would have attacked you. Always have a walking stick or umbrella at the top of the stairs and by your bed, maybe one of those with a spike on the end by the front door. If anyone did break in and fell backwards down the stairs as a result of you switching the lights on and startling them, they get everything they deserve. A Chief Constable once told listeners on a radio show "dead witnesses can't talk" - he is right.

    • @Bond2025
      @Bond2025 Před 5 měsíci +8

That is *ALL YOU NEED* now, it fools most people that take their gadgets along. They are buying expensive programmers and car theft kits with lockpicking tools and are stumped by a hidden switch. Many are still defeated by removing the fuse for the 12v supply to the OBD2 socket, they plug devices in and there is no power. That is if you have not hidden the socket out of the way.
You can go one further and stick a double pole switch for two circuits to really annoy them. Maybe the fuel pump and something else you choose. Some car alarms have a feature that will allow you to program a button press sequence to start. You have to remember to "press left indicator, press hazard switch, press AC on" before the car will start - but all that can be defeated too.

As someone who had their car stolen at the end of last year just after Christmas, I now have an alarm system fitted and I have a disklok, wheel clamp and pedal lock. It might sound excessive and long winded but the more things you have, especially with the visual locks, the more of a deterrent it is to the thieves to not even bother trying to take it and honestly it takes seconds to put the physical locks on and off, and would you rather take a few extra seconds before driving your car, or wake up to find you no longer have a car? The police are absolutely useless as well because realistically they already know they’re not gonna find your car so they don’t bother to look for it.

    • @Bond2025
      @Bond2025 Před 5 měsíci +4

If they want it, they take it ! Alarms are of no use and only aim to slow people down as some will tow or lift the car, but if you are faced with a knife or group of people are you really going to get yourself injured? The steering wheel covers are not that good, neither are wheel clamps as the lock is the weak point. The problem is that as cars become more electronic, that's the weakness. Modules are not all coded to the car and not all data is encrypted between modules, if it was it would stop a lot being stolen. We have gone back to the days of a front door key opening every Ford.
For example, the Range Rover is the easiest to steal as the module that is replaced is in the boot under a plastic cover. People take their own programmed to their own key, get in the car and then take one control module out and put theirs in before driving off. A similar thing happens with ECUs. BMW are terrible, you can get in using tools from an auction site! Once inside it is a case of programming your own key and driving off.
Most will carry and plug in a GPS jammer to defeat that system too. They sell for £20. There is only one system that sends out a VHF/UHF tracker signal, but people have to go out hunting for that using the last known cell site.
In most areas, excluding all the high value stolen to order for gangs and exports, the trend for stolen cars can be worked out from using sites that sell insurance write-offs in some regions! You only have to look at what is being sold most and then similar cars start being stolen to order to repair them. This happens a lot. I have a cut'n'shut and accident repair shop by me that was well known for stealing cars to order for parts they needed.
Most stolen interiors end up on auction sites, most parts end up in breaker yards and scrap yards. Always be suspicious when main dealers have a few months wait for parts, but a scrap yard can get you anything same day!
Years ago it was Rover cars being stolen by reaching under the front wheel and pulling down a connector, we have not moved on much. There are lots of well publicised ways and sites showing all the weaknesses manufacturers are deliberately exposing people to and doing nothing about.
Some things you can do -
      1. Relocate the diagnostics socket to somewhere else in the car, just move it out of the way.
      2. Remove the fuse that supplies 12v to the OBD socket.
      3. Use a RF shielded bag to put your keys in.
      4. Have gates that lock, use those retractable posts.
      5. Fit floodlights with PIR
      6. Fit CCTV and Ring Doorbell - if only they would bring out a 4K one!
      7. Don't use a popular company for alarms as where and how they fit them is also over various web sites!
      8. Don't rely on just an alarm, use immobiliser techniques such as RFID tags and button press sequences to start etc
      9. Use an old Android phone hidden in the car as a tracker - very easy to make yourself.
      10. Don't fight gangs of armed people as a car can be replaced...
The number of cars I see recovered with expensive alarms is incredible, they don't do much to protect against the criminal gangs.

What's worse, especially with modified cars, is the quality of the insurance underwriters on offer. we spend ages shopping around for the best price when we should be checking the reviews of the underwriters.
Unfortunately, we have lost control of our borders, our country, and our justice system. This situation is only going to be worse over time.

She said it would reduce my premium by £52 per year so just to recoup the cost of the tracker i would need to keep the car 8 years and that doesn't include the monthly subscription. No thanks

If every car model from a manufacturer had the same security it wouldn't be that secure, thieves would find a way around it as they would all be installed the same. If you fit your own/get your own fitted, you can hide it somewhere different and make it harder to get around, and they won't know what's making it secure. Just disable keyless entry, it's useless anyway, check which fuse from the fusebox to pull out or disable it in the menu if you can, and stick your keys in a tin box at night.

The Organised crime aspect of this type of theft should see the courts treating as exactly that in the courts, when/if the cops catch them then it shouldn't just be a case of TWOC, they should be charged as part of an organised crime and given much stiffer sentences that may act as a deterrent rather than just telling them they are a naughty boy and make them pick up litter for a few hours

Car theft is getting out of control. So let's post a video on CZcams to show the public just how it's done so they can steal cars too.

Hears why, poor security and people leave car keys right next to the front door. Plus when caught nothing happens to them

If there is a person smart enough to design these security systems, there is someone smart enough to break them.

You don’t need these security systems nowadays… with the condition of the roads 🤦 you won’t be able to drive far

Whatever you say.. The crime rate increases only due to lack of effectiveness of policing systems

I know first hand that police no longer investigate burglaries. If a car shows up on anpr or they find it as a result of an incident that's the only way you will get it back. Its as though they just let the insurance pay the customer out. If you don't have insurance. Tough. Crazy times.

You can watch anything but if you have to see pollution in rivers lakes and sea then it's hard because of one constantly failing component called turbo now when latest testing news with smaller diesel engine with Kompressor or with supercharger results are showing 3.3l per 100kilometer and even if you take it as diesel hybrid you still would remove mistake from system and end up with same KW or HP.

I'm hoping I'll be in the situation where I have a car worth protecting... Pandora is an option. I've also got Automatrics MTrack in mind, their CZcams channel is superb. They're able to track and locate plant equipment, Range Rovers... anything with one of their trackers, as they're based on GPS, GSM and Radio signals. Worth a look if any of you aren't sure which system to go for. Although, stopping the 'bandits' from taking your car in the first place would be a good place to start!

I would tend to go with Automatrics MTrack, a far better system and a whole UK wide team of people ready to go out and find your car so they get paid a bonus. They *WILL* find it too, in next to no time. I have seen them in action many times and they have even found cars in metal containers.
If you have a high value vehicle, Automatrics is the one for you. There is no point in just having an alarm that makes a lot of noise as no one will go out, but one that is busy sending tracking info via various means does help.

I have a Pandora and a S7 tracker connected to the Pandora so if the alarm is triggered someone from the tracking company rings my mobile to notify me. On average once a month they try to nick my car (keyless Golf R) always between 3.30 - 4.00am the alarm gets triggered. I've had the car nearly two years and they have failed to get it, best £750 i've spent. Sorry but as far as i'm concerned if you can spend 30k plus on a car ( or any performance car for that matter) and not think about security you deserve all that's coming. Wait till you see quotes for your insurance premium the following year. By the way i turn off the keyless function on the Golf every time i leave the car, there's a button on the front door handles to do this.
