- Many dreams came true when the original "The Love Boat" ensemble reunited aboard Princess Cruises MV DISCOVERY PRINCESS for a week of celebrations in honor of the hit television show. On 27 October 2022, a Q&A by cruise director DuVaul Gamble was held in the packed-to-the-rafters Princess Showroom with cast members Cynthia Lauren Tewes (“Julie”), Ted Lange (“Isaac”), Fred Grandy (“Gopher”), Jill Whelan (“Vicki”) and Bernie Kopell (“Doc”). The first part of the show (and this series of videos) is dedicated to the late Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain Stubing. Each of the actors shares touching and often funny memories of Gavin and they are all captured here from one of the best seats in the house. Oh Peter, this is Gold! How I would love to have been a pax on that cruise. I have always wanted to meet the beautiful and talented Lauren. Lauren was on a Princess cruise here in Australian waters some years back and a friend of mine was aboard...I was jealous as heck, and my friend didn't even know who Lauren Tewes was - life is not fair ;-) I remember sailing on the original Princess ships 1970s/80s - those were the days :) Lovely to see the original Love Boat crew all together once more - most precious - long live them all. RIP Gavin, we loved him here in Australia.
Wow, so happy to know how much of an impact the show had in Australia, too. I got to visit with Lauren at a cocktail party that was held for the cast and media and she was very down to earth. Thanks for watching and posting here. I hope to get the second part up in the next day or two but also hope this video gains some more traction first.

One of the best shows, ever! You could feel the love from the cast when you saw the show. They were and are a class act. And Gavin personified that class as well as any of them. They weren't just a cast, they are a family.

I was just watching the Love Boat today! I love that show. I would have loved being on this cruise to see the cast. And I like DuVaul too. We cruised on the Discovery Princess to Alaska about a year ago and he was really funny.

Gavin born on the same year with the late Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev.
Jill Whelan who played Vicki on The Love boat grew up on that show she was little when the show was running I remember her going from a little girl to wearing beautiful dresses
In my experience in the motion picture industry, having worked with thousands of people who worked in front of camera, there are two real actors on that cast. These two had actual talent, appeared in movies, onstage and on camera in a variety of roles over years--Bernie Kopell and Gavin MacLeod.
Agreed -- they were and are both extremely talented with a wide range of stage, screen and television performances on their resumes. I don't disparage the other cast members, but I do think Gavin and Bernie were/are very special.
I saw an old episode of Bewitched that had Bernie on it and I saw Gavin on the Andy Griffith show. I love spotting actors on those old shows when they were so much younger.
So sad to see everyone gather without Gavin McLeod 😢
He was very much missed.
