I've spent 100s of hours playing Skyrim, maybe even over 1000, without getting bored, and STILL haven't completed the main story. That's the mark of an excellent game.

My only game I had over 1k hours is warframe. In its earlier days, there was so much to do with customizing your warframes build and looks (fashion frame) to be able to last longer in survival like rounds with friends. You always felt powerful when you had to constantly revive your friends. The best part was that you could farm platinum (premium currency) by simply playing the game and aquiring rare items, and then you would negotiate a selling price for your rare items. Loved that game!
Yeah gotta agree, there's a HUGE amount of content (and grinding) to keep you busy in Warframe.
even the hack and slash games like devil may cry, bayonetta, nier automata, etc. has balance enemy difficulty so its not too hard and not too easy, so its fun to play. but i don't know why some people loved to play the easy game like that
even if its made for low level but i saw the gameplay that had the high level their weapon is also 1-shot enemies, so i don't know what's fun about one-shot enemies like that, i totally understand if 1-shot enemies like diablo or path of exiles because they had bunch of enemies like hundreds or thousands but warframe is not a horde enemies but u can 1-shot them
maybe for people who just want to play free game only and never played dmc, tales series, god of war, bayonetta, nier series, etc. feels that game was fun but for someone who played a lot hack and slash games that game is too easy so its boring to play

The Civ series deserves at least an honorable mention. Between Civ5 and Civ6, I've played over 10,000 hours.

@@alextorres5490 civ 6 is really bad. Took me over a year just to finish my first playthrough i was so bored each time i played, could only play for a few minutes and had to quit, hated its graphics, its design changes form Civ 5.
Civ 5 i literally play for 10 hrs straight sometimes it can addict me so good... if the AI wasn't so stupid and could play smart instead of just requiring cheat mode type advantages, the game would be perfect.

@arabgamingtv1261 It doesn't have the plethora of mods like 2 does yet, and that is the only issue imo. Other than that, I would say it is a perfect sequel, and the mod issue will be remedied with time.
Edit: I think 3 is superior to 2. So yes, go for it!

@Daniel N yeah the building bit of Fallout 4 was also my least favorite aspect of the game... everything was fine in my opinion however I'm more of a fan of Skyrim so 🤷🏼♀️
My father in law has probably surpassed 1000 hours in Fallout 4 multiple times. He loves that game.
It's kind of mind-blowing that NMS is 6 years old, the free updates they always provide make the game feel like it just came out 2 years ago

I've sunk aprox 800 hours in NMS around 2020.
Would drift again with all the new patches till date, awfully doesn't have the time anymore.
So what interesting things do you do in the game? Are there cool npcs? I just never got what the actual gameplay loop is in NMS
@dgayle2348 There isn't one gameplay loop, but dozens of little loops that occur simultaneously. The main one is obviously just look around and see new things, but they added new things to find that spin off on themselves. There's space combat, where you fly around and fight various factions to earn resources and money, during which you can find larger ships that you can purchase to create a fleet for a separate purpose such as expeditions or to help your combat. You can trade with people as a merchant or farmer which you can get started by looking around and finding plants or trade goods. You can stumble upon wrecks that you can explore for resources or monsters that you have to fight and much more. All of these happen independently of each other and you can focus on them if you want, but none of it is actually necessary for game completion. In fact the final mission is literally just to explore the universe.
Very glad you mentioned Path of Exile on this list. It is the only game, other than perhaps Guild Wars 2 (and almost Skyrim), that I have spent nearly 3,000 hours playing. It is truly one of the best games to sink hours of your life into. Once you reach end-game maps, if you have a decent build and can clear maps well, then you're set. This game has one of the most enjoyable endgame experiences in any game I've ever played!
What is the endgame? As someone who's never stepped foot into PoE, to me, it kinda sounds like you just run the same maps over and over and over. Is there more to it, am I grossly over-simplifying it, or is that somewhat accurate? I've been tempted to hop into it, but if the only endgame is to run the same maps over and over for shinier loot, I'm gonna pass.
Endgame mapping only revolves around a number of maps. The content variety of its maps all rely on what stuff you like to do. Choosing those “stuff” changes the outcome of each maps, enemy buffs you have to build around with. Its what makes mapping content rich. Plus, theres a lot of side content to play with. When you get mapping burnouts, you can play other contents ie heists, delving, expeditions. And if that bores you too, fresh start a new build. I went from 0 to 500 hrs in the span of 2 months and that is a very rare thing to happen to me. Games i can think of that took hours from me as an adult would be darksouls, dragons dogma, hades and fallout nv. Adult life really makes you choose what games is worthwhile putting hrs into.

Skyrim is definitely the old, but final milestone of it's kind lol. It's the one most people perhaps were first exposed to the concept of modding. And maybe even encouraged a new generation of community-based creators (your steam workshops of the world, etc.)
There's something to be said for a game as old as that and yet that you can find so many passion projects that sprouted from it! And of course, into other games, like F4/Watch Dogs (the original)/Cp2077 & so forth.
Was just about to comment on Skyrim. I just started playing and without mods I would be so turned off. Don't get me wrong, I love grinding and doing quests to get good weapons, but the perks-level ratio is so 🫠
Add in the mob mentaility of 5 against one in fights (I hate having followers) and I was dying too much to enjoy.
Being able to add new storylines, homes, people, tweak system mechanics (Better merchants with a resonable amount of money :0) and the game is so nice. Best part is a pc isnt needed. I'm using a ps5 and despite it being the offical community (not nexus) things are so great.
I started modding games in Skyrim haha.
I got it working in x360 rgh some mods(they was simple,like new water or timecyle) after this I I got a pc and started modding more games
I love Skyrim. While I like Elden Ring Skyrim is still my number 1 favourite RPG. I would spend hours outside of quests. Walk around the towns I have houses in. Read books by my houses' fireplaces. Cook and eat. There's so much to do in Skyrim and it feels like a living breathing world.
Sadly most the passion projects it spawned are fan made. You'd think the industry would jump on the darkish high fantasy genre and give us tons of dragons yet they're still underused

I did an "Iron Man" file on Fallout 4 (Survival mode, restart the game from exiting the vault if you die) that took me months to get down, so definitely spent something like 2000 hours just on Fallout 4 alone throughout various files. When I finally succeeded, I had every non-radiant quest done that I could do and 800 hours logged. Fantastic game, I don't know why it gets the hate it does.
It's not a bad game, but it's a bad RPG. It tells you exactly who you are and what your goal is. Compare this to Fallout: New Vegas, which opens with you getting shot and leaves you to decide what you do next. They cut down the dialogue options to four and didn't tell you what you were going to say until you already said it, leading to choices people didn't want to make.

Asheron's call was the o.g. of the monthly update system. It came out in the late 90s and did a massive update once every six months or so but did a content and story update once a month. For an MMORPG that's pretty good. 🤘 The game has been shut down for a while but it was pretty legit back in the day.

Terraria is up there for me. There's so much to do on top of the mods, it's so easy to just get lost in exploring and prepping for boss encounters then creating your own base and gathering materials for the settlers. Just so good

I'm playing it right now after a few years not having touched it. Without really trying and losing worlds/characters over the years I have almost every achievement and beat the world on Master. And I'm at 400 hrs.
I can't imagine doubling that time without just starting new characters and speeding through it, but that can apply to any game.

i played witcher 3 after playing rdr2 and horse riding is pathetic in witcher. after 10 hrs i quit the shit
I did all the game had to offer in 300 not much after that.
I have never been able to get back into gaming after Witcher 3. I was so spoiled by it. Nothing matches that feeling.

@@raedshow981 yes, horse in witcher 3 is shit. it cant even jump small hurdle. sometimes it gets stuck in stones and in small space. its nightmare to get roach out of that situation.i started watching witcher series coz game sucks. and series is awesome. my guess is only story saved witcher 3 which stolen from books

Really glad to see EU4 on here… I’m not much of a gamer, but I’ve sank hundreds of hours into that game without even realizing it. You get lost in those campaigns once they get going
Edit: also worth mentioning that you can get a $5/month subscription for access to all the DLC content for EU4. It’s worth it if you love the game, it adds a ton of mechanics and options at a very fair price compared to what it would be if you bought them all outright
I read the title and thought, Factorio has some potential.
And it made it to the top. I really like that. Also games like oxygen not included where you don't know the outcome every time you play, is also engaging.
I don't think I've put 1000+ hours into any single player game I'm sure with things like Skyrim or New Vegas I've probably passed 500 but I don't think it's reached 1000 yet. Now with my current favorite multiplayer game Titanfall 2 I've passed the 3000 mark and it's still fun.

It mostly depends on the person. In my case, I'm someone who can enjoy things they love many MAAANY times without getting bored in the slightest. I've played Skyrim for 2000+ hours by now and I still enjoy it and also I still find places I've never been to. I actually haven't even completed the Dawngaurd and Dragonborn DLCs before the 1000h mark. xD
skyrims like a 50hr to maybe 100 hr if you screw around with mods a bit game. I'm also not sure how you'd get 1000 hrs in skyrim, it gets boring pretty fast even with mods...
Though without mods the game is a total throw away... it shows you how bad Bethesda really is, if they actually made it without mod support none of their RPGs would be even a second thought cause they are buggy, broken and have dated gameplay even at their releases.
@@webbie7503 Well... people are different. Skyrim just doesn't really get boring for me. Of course I'm not only playing Skyrim. Well... at least the Steam Replay thingy for 2022 said that 19% of the time I've played something else last year. But every now and then after or even while playing through something else, I do get the desire to play Skyrim again and I start a new playthrough. That's how I got thousands of hours in Skyrim. It just doesn't get old for me and thanks to modding the graphics and gameplay is perfectly tailored to me. That also helps with enjoying the game and getting lost in this beautiful world yet again.

Endwalker is among the best expansions on account of it making everything else retroactively better, anyone who has actually played knows that.
Yeah. Shadowbringers is still the best, but Endwalker was great. And it just made Shadowbringers even better by adding more depth to things.

Back in 1998, i crashed my left leg and now it has metals in it. Luckily, Jagged Alliance 2 had just come out and within the 3 and a 1/2 months that i had to live with a cast and crutches, it kept me sane. It would take me around 150 game days to finish one game and got me hooked. Finished it at least 3-4 times while i was out of work. Even today, 25 years later, people are still playing it, with the 1.13 mods it's a whole new game, endless replayablity value. I have over 3000 hours in Mass Effect 3, mainly because of the multiplayer and a lot of hours on stealth series, such as Thief and Splinter Cell, as well as the first Deus Ex. But i have put more hours in JA2 than in any other game. And not even an honorable mention :(
Just came to say playing Final Fantasy XIV is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had 1000 hours was only the beginning.

I've played on and off since the PS3 relaunch but only really dove in two summers ago (I also was not/am not a MMO guy I'm a FF guy) and I got absolutely hooked. There's the base game and then 4 expansions that have come out in the years after I had already beat the base game and it's good very much a decent FF story but it's worth it to establish the ground work for the entire world they build off of it. Each expansion tops the last it was wild to play like a decade of their work concurrently and feel like they had weaved the whole thing on the spot right in front of me everything matters everything feels planned and thought of and that makes it feel like actual events actually happening in an actual world and belivable story of the warrior of light.
It was really all I could think about all I did I would work, come home and binge tf out of it and again I'm not an MMO guy I wasn't high level raiding I wasn't crafting (all of this stuff is cool and fun tho don't get me wrong) I was there PURELY to see what happened next. I can genuinely say after I got into heavenward there was not a dull moment I couldn't recommend it more.

Whenever I watch someone play any Final Fantasy game on Twitch, I am instantly bored to tears. All those incredibly long and unnecessary conversations with NPCs would drive me bonkers.
I never thought Stardew Valley would captivate me the way it did. I think it was the mastering of fishing that kept me coming back.

I whole fully support this statement. I myself had managed to get level 53? - 54? on my Paladin. I liked the Red Mage too due to its burst-type damage. I tried getting into the Samurai class too, but I just can't get into it. Paladin all the way. Was going to work toward unlocking Dark Knight, but my free-to-play duration was up. Would love to get back into it tho. the only issue is money.
I started FFXIV by playing free trial. Right now I'm 32 levels.
The atmosphere is great but I'm always doing quests, quests, side quests and MORE quests.... Where is the fun fact in this game? Should I enjoy to making quests? I didn't get the point they gave to us.

And yes...lol it is known to be a very tedious and rather boring start to the game.
I always made a joke I was just the freaking personal mail man for the scions.
But it is no joke, once you hit Heavensward (lvl 50) the game just....it gets so good.
You will actively be more interested in the story and be more engaged in the lore.
Thankfully they have greatly lessened ARR so you can get through it much faster and believe it or not...with less errand boy quests XD.
Personally, seek out the raids when you can.
Such as (maybe you have already done them? ) the crystal tower.
Which is mandatory now...but holds fantastic story and important game lore.
And is one of the best ways to really meet the ffxiv community.
I would highly recommend focusing on the MSQ right now...dont worry about side stuff as much.
You can always join an FC to make the game more interactive with players, as well as reap some benefits from it. (Such as exp bonuses, travel costs are lowered etc...)
But most of all. Don't be afraid to take a break. You don't want to burn yourself out...which can greatly diminish your interest in the game.
It's supposed to be fun.
Not a chore.
Take a few days to play another game, or another hobby etc...
So take a step back when needed, if you want to keep playing
do your daily roulette, (I like wasting time in there myself to help sprouts) visit the gold saucer, do a challenge log, visit some of the other players in game clubs or events.
Its OK to take breaks.
It sounds like your getting close to the end though. So hang in there! And maybe...cya in the game :)

I want to point out that you can play Warhammer 3 the big map without having any other game, and it's the most complete game of the three, some factions haven't aged well but they're steadily getting updates. Honestly if you're starting get W3 and grow your collection from there. You can buy dlc from the other games without having them, although you need them to unlock the base races from those games.
Just as a heads up, the fully combined Immortal Empires map is part of the base game now for Total War: Warhammer III. If you want to play as a specific character from the older games, they can be purchased separately but you can play the full Immortal Empires map with any of the WH3 base game characters just by purchasing WH3 itself. No need to own all three games to unlock it anymore.
I would add Terraria and Minecraft to the list, those games are a time machine

I’ve been a no man’s sky day 1 and I love that it’s getting a second look now that the developers have non stop put work into their creation. A large studio would just ditch it, but they’ve put everything into making their game the best it can be
I agree, but after a disastrous release like NMS had, a small(er) studio like Hello Games would have been ruined if they didn't follow through. Bigger studios could probably get away with it. Not arguing with you, just saying 😂
I put over 3,000 hours into Phantasy Star Online back in the day. Probably over 5,000, but I didn't keep track. I do remember having over 2,500 on one character on the GC version. I miss that game a lot.
Oldschool Runescape is definately in my top 3 games to spend 1000+ hours immersing yourself in.

I remember RuneScape omg...I played when it only had the 3 original servers lol...I even remember bluerose13x was like the highest level at the time before they even added the wilderness...I was pretty up there but still a little behind bluerose lol. The best armor you could have at the time was rune or mithril I believe...good game...thousands of hours lol.

I think one of the more interesting things I saw for Factorio was someone who built a factory... that eventually just built itself and expanded itself through in-game logic over time.
Lol!! It is so true. I spend easily as much time playing WITH the mods in Skyrim, as I spend actually playing the game. But honestly, Skyrim should have been on the list. Eleven years later, and I still play more of it than any other game. It is the archetype of what a real computer RPG should be. A world you can truly live in, as whoever you want to be.

One thing that will always be relevant in Gaming, is people would rather spend hours in a game world sometimes then dealing with the reality of this world. It's an escape, that's much needed sometimes.

Well, for them they probably have it all panned out. Got to play so many games a week. But after watching them for many years…. They just repeat the same games over and over … the same triple A games. But, then again, they sometimes have videos like this one where they take a risk at mentioning different games then the ones they always are “safe” with.
No it's actually very obvious when falcon hasn't played the game because he will mispronounce every single name in the script.
You make it sound like they have played every game they talk about to get the information they bring us.
I've always figured that they get the info from either people telling them about things or various other forums and CZcams stuff.
You don't gotta have all this knowledge in your head, you just go grab it from someplace when you need it.
@@Seth-Halo It helps that they're already well versed in various games. So if they have their own writing team then that's probably why it's so fast. If not then they can just hire content writers/freelancers.
That is their job, sure they do it great and all but the amount of time needed comes there obviously.

I think it is worth adding Satisfactory, for the excact same reasons.
I remember seeing a job ad for being a tester for Path of Exile and one of the requirements was a minimum of 1000 hours because theres so much to learn in that game lol
Factorio is sooooo addicting. Every time I pick it up again I can't put it down. When I'm not playing I'm watching videos or reading about the game. When I'm not reading about it I'm still thinking about it. I'll be laying in bed thinking about things I can do to optimize my factory or build new setups.
The Dragon Age Trilogy should be in this list, because of The Keep. With it, the games talk to each other, and I'm STILL playing them because of this. I make tiny changes to the spacetime continuum and then follow them to see how far they ripple out across Thedas and how much they affect characters. Easily 1000+ hours.
Good catch. I have forgotten how many hours I spend in them, but it must have been a LOT. Especially the very first game in the trilogy had gotten me hooked, and I played it with several origins. Contrary to a lot of people I liked the second game more than the third game. Dragon Age 2 just "clicked" more than the Inquisition game. Don't ask me why...

If you like Factorio, there is a high chance you will like a game called Satisfactory. It is essentially a first person view version of a factory builder. Very easy to get lost in while unlocking new machines and buildings to use new materials and all that good stuff! And some aliens to fight!
i have easily spent over 10,000 hours on skyrim within this decade alone.
the modding scene is addicting and it's always fun to start over and do some other playthrough.
speaking of, i really gotta get back to it, i'm playing a new story mod that just came out and i can't wait to try it out.
Excellent list, some of my favs on here. Rimworld and Stardew, I'd also say for Paradox games I love Stellaris.

If ya like stardew valley, I’d suggest trying core keeper. It’s still in early access but it’s chill with a little more grinding and fighting than stardew.
It's kind of sad that the best games to play in 2023 mostly didn't even come out within the last couple years

PoE went from great 1.x to garbage in 3.x. D2R and Grim Dawn are far better.
Wolcen and Lost Epoch recently got big updates (endgame and multiplayer respectively) but haven’t played them in ages.
Great list as always. Loved all the entries and I have spent thousands of hours playing more than one of them. I do think that Guild Wars 2 and Satisfactory are additional worthy candidates for this list. I can't even begin to tell you how many months total game time I have played GW2 and every new update in Satisfactory usually means another several hundred hours of gameplay for me. :D

I have way too many hours on ck2/ck3/vic2/eu4, and no playthrough has felt the same. If you want to get into paradox games I would recommend starting with ck3 as it is the least complicated and you can definitely get into it without dlc although I would definitely recommend getting the royal court and tours and tournaments dlcs if you do enjoy the base game
Modding is definitely getting more accessible with things like nexus collections. I downloaded 3 collections for cyberpunk, and then just added like 10 more single mods
I am so glad Final Fantasy 14 is the thumbnail for this video. I have 1300 hours through Steam and counting. Makes me even more excited for FF16 with Yoshi P being involved

FF14 is the first game I've put 1000 hours into and the only MMO I've been able to actually keep coming back to and playing.
Lol, I feel that part about modding Skyrim. Bought it on launch day, but I've never finished the story. It's been years since I last played it, but every time I did I'd load it up with mods until it broke irreparably. Good times! I've actually been thinking about it again lately. I love those open world games I can really sink my teeth into, and currently don't have one. Checking out the mod situation since I last played Skyrim is really tempting, save for the many, many hours it takes to set that up.

I was so excited to see ffxiv on the list!! I’ve easily put 1000 hours in over the last 1.5 years or so. The story is incredible and the endgame content is so fun. I’ve spent more time creating outfits than fighting things🤣 it’s so easy to sink so much time into it and I don’t regret it at all
I love leveling the crafting and gathering jobs. Very fulfilling
I played FFXI when I was younger after a year I checked my in game time it was 1/3 of my life but that includes late nights in which I had fallen asleep for a few hours. It was bad.

@victor_734 Just doing simple math over 2900 hours. I don't remember exact hours now. That was over 10 years ago. You could type in /time or something like that and it would show you your logged in hours.

I have spent so much time in Fallout 4 building settlements. Get some mods for more stuff to build and no boundries on how far you can build and it's a blast. I have whole cities in the sky, cities in a huge glass box, etc.
There's a few games that I've spent over 100hours playing. Most of the NHL games, the Crew 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Octopath Traveler 2 (as of last night), and some others. Some games are so easy to play through multiple times and just get lost in.
Ahh. Nothing like sitting back with a new gameranx video and having Ray Liotta's younger brother tell me what games I should play next.

Spend 3 years in Rimworld And it's one of the best colony management and strategy game I have Played so Far
Off the top of my head, Civilization VI and games like it have endless replayability. I could see The Witcher 3 on this list because of the world and playstyles you can deep dive in to and Mass Effect 2 as well just because it is what it is.

Kenshi is my guilty pleasure to sink a ton of hours into. Highly recommend it if you enjoy open world sandbox games with RPG and strategy elements.
I was looking for that comment lol, Kenshi is a super deep and complete game, but it can also feel highly unfinished due to some bugs and lack of animations sometimes.
They're apparently making Kenshi 2, I'm really excited to see what they'll fix from the previous game.
Also, there is a game called Gord that will come out this year or maybe in 2024, might be worth checking while we wait for Kenshi 2
Good choices. Another one i have spend hundreds of hours in is left 4 dead 2. Just a perfect coop game and many modded servers. Also fishing planet if you are into fishing can give you and incredible amount of hours, chilling and catching fish.

No man's sky is phenomenal in VR! If I didn't get VR sickness I'd play it all the damn time.
If I didn't have kids, I'd never leave the VR. Lol! It definitely does make No Man's Sky so much better.

As I’ve just 100% stardew I’m looking for somthing new to play and with the hours on stardew being 1220, I think I might move to another 1000 game. I love games with great progression, exploration , challenges , looting , online / offline raiding! My mind is forever on the hunt for that 1000 game to sink in to!!

Glad to see that four of the games listed are played by me and my partner - she currently has just over 2000 hours in Stardew and Rimworld, and I've got about the same in Skyrim and Path of Exile......
But that's not the heaviest play of mine - I have a little over 10k hours between platforms in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3d......
I've spent soo many hours on Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, that game can be played non stop cuz, its always soo random, and It takes soo long to complete it, just constant fighting, attacking & defending castles & towns, trading, attacking bandits, defending caravans, one campaign can last 100+ hours depending on your playstyle & luck i guess. Really amazing game.
i just got this on PS5 for no reason other than it was $20. not sure ill like it

Half of my drive is composed of games I played once or twice. I don’t feel like erasing them until I need the space, but deep down, I know have have a dozen better options available.
Oldie but tales of symphonia I have so may hours on the old GameCube version im really happy for the remastered version for the ps5 it's one of my favorite games. The music the story. Ugh ❤
You no longer need to own all 3 total war warhammer games to play the big map. If you buy the 3ed installment you now have access to the huge map. Just need to buy the races now
