Accidently creating a immersive mechanic domino effect that allows cats to involuntarily get drunk is tight
I read that in pitch meeting guy’s voice.
@@vineethsai1575 just as planned
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
And it was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Waow waow waow waow
I like Kingdom Come: Deliverance's depth. When you steal something in a village, it makes a huge difference whether it's an apple or the sword of some lord. People might recognise the sword even in other nearby villages whereas you could sell the apple in the same village. Also guards might look for the thief and frisk you. It's incredibly immersive.
I got kicked out of a village at night for not having a torch and I never did work out where to get said torch.
Lol torches are easy to purchase breh
I really wanted to love that game, but the combat at the very beginning is so damn frustrating.
Fr it ain't like the typical RPG, where you succeed stealing the entire village, and expect them not to notice something is missing next day. That happened to me.
@@Scotty2Balls the combat doesn't get any easier. It's easily the most frustrating part of the game. Not to mention the buggiest. The number of times I would end up inside another character model was insane.
The Dwarf Fortress story was even crazier. The background was that at some point cats started dying fomr alcohol poisoning left and right, not just getting drunk. As explained, they strolled through a fortress's tavern, got beer on their paws and ingested that when cleaning themselves. The actual issue did arise that the amount of liquid (in this case beer) was saved as whole units, whereas a single unit was something like a litre. Any creature in this game can not only be drunk, as in having a fixed state, but they have their blood alcohol levels calculated from ingested amount of alcohol vs. body weight. Now imagine a tiny light-weight cat ingesting a whole litre of strong dwarven beer in the short time it took for the cat to clean itself. Poor things. The problem was fixed by adjusting the way liquid amounts are saved in the game, allowing cats to only drag the actual tiniest amounts of beer around that would realistically get stuck on their paws. Now they can still get tipsy, but are not likely to die from intoxication anymore as cats are not as susceptible to alcoholism as others might be.
Project zomboid is insane with the depth of its mechanics. They keep adding more depth to the game and eventually they plan on simulating an entire zombie outbreak including having every single zombie having a backstory including where they lived, who their family was, and what they did before they turned
It appears he confused, complicated for the sake of being complicated as meaning it has depth for half of this list. Quite a few of these games have day old puddle levels of depth but overly complex mechanics for simple things. A few of them definitely have depth to them but there are literally thousands of games that have more depth than Tarkov or Virtua Fighter and it beat out EVE online... a game it takes over a year to grasp at amateur levels.
Yeah wonder why its not in this list, richest game for machanics I have ever played. Half of mention games have nothing to do with "rich" gameplay. It looks more like he is advertising something 😅
seeing NPCS with backstory isn't depth, it's just fluff. last time I played it, it wasn't nearly as deep as Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. Would be nice if they changed it but it was a very surface level game at the time
@@GwenActually it's not exactly backstory, it just means that every zombie actually has connections and existed in the simulation which helps create a more lifelike and interconnected world. Like for example trying to find the keys to a car and checking a zombies ID and then finding where they lived and finding the keys in the house. Stuff like that becomes more likely to happen
It has a lot of depth, but I think its depth is also a bit overstated. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but it looks a lot more complicated than it is. The depth of mundane mechanics comes at the cost of depth of core mechanics.
You forgot to mention that Dwarf Fortress recently got a Steam release with a HUGE visual overhaul, it's now incredibly accepting of new players and very fun to play and watch as your Dwarves inadvertently cause mayhem.
Tbh the steam release is my primary drive for saving up for a steamdeck.
This might actually make for some quality streaming content.
Just to get an idea of how large and detailed the insanity is, look up a long-running Dwarf Fortress game called "Boatmurdered" (just google the word).
It's a world that was created, and different people took command of the fortress for one in-game year, then passed it on to another player, and so on. It spirals into madness.
Also, look up "merfolk farming". Basically merfolk are a sentient intelligent speaking race, that are pretty friendly. They breathe water, and "drown" if they're in air for too long. But in old versions of the game, since they're fantastic creatures, merfolk BONES had high trade value.
A lot of players realized there's profit in it, but refused to butcher them because they're an intelligent friendly race.
*Other* people not only butchered them, but discovered you can turn huge profits by building elaborate coastal pens to breed them and slaughter a captive merfolk population... entire discussions and guides were written on optimizing farming pens to breed and slaughter a sentient race with maximum efficiency, making their fortresses extremely wealthy O.o
Tarn (the dev) actually got mad that people were doing something so sick, and that the community was discussing it with such joy and gusto. It's looked at as a situation where some people became so decadent and evil that they angered "god himself (the dev) XD
Dev had no choice but to lower to value of their bones to near nothing, and make the game so that sentient creatures can't be butchered for parts.
@@cykeok3525haha wow
Redfall has absolutely insane depth! The enemies can spawn all over the place! I’ve seen them inside objects, poking out of walls, or even underground.
It even has a tiered loot system. I don't think I've ever seen a game use such a complex system like that before. GOTY.
> insane depth
> enemies can spawn .. even underground
I see what you did there XD
@@cykeok3525 That was unintentional but good eye! Haha
XD 😂😂😂
Wait, redfall has enemies? It's been about 3 hours and I've not encountered any yet...
I would say it's noticeable that Gameranx is putting in the effort of highlighting unusual games, to a higher diversity. Like it. Thanks for helping us finding new games to play 🙌
To be honest, as a massive fan of both Rimworld and Slay the Spire, this video actually barely scratched the surface of what makes them deep. No real explanation, and all the gameplay footage is from the first 10 minutes of both games. Pretty lazy actually.
@@johnvarley4561 my dude, this video is 13 minutes long, takes 1 minute for the intro and whatnot, we have 12 minutes now, so around 72 seconds for each game. You aren't gonna explain anything to anyone in 72 seconds so why bother. This video's purpose is to pique your interest in the said game and so scratching the surface is enough.
I cringe when I see that word, even when used in a perfectly normal way, as it is here. 😂
Seeing Rimworld was a nice surprise since it is such a niche game
This is the most dogshit normie list of all time
Mine for this list is DCS. I tried playing the flight sim. It was so complicated, I couldn't get the plane off the ground. The flight check list was insane. Brakes, flaps, oil pressure, oil temp, fuel pressure, hydraulics and on and on. The level of detail on those planes are crazy. I can see why they sell them individually for a hundred dollars or so. Hats off to real pilots.
Yes this
thats a game not a flight sim. you'll notice the dif. missile, guns, shooting other planes down very easily.... game...... sims are meant for ultra realism bso there's nothing to do but fly.. I'm a pilot, fcs is pretty close but.. far away in some factors
@@harleyme3163 you clearly have no idea what your talking about. Go watch some videos. DCS is a study sim.
@@harleyme3163 DCS=Digital Combat Simulator. Combat flight sim. They also do ships.
The fact MSFS made it and not DCS is silly asf
I am quite surprised that Project Zomboid is not in this list since it is insanely in depth for a game like it.
Same! I love Zomboid.
I'd like the game to come out. I've had it since 2015. While they have made many strives of improvements; the game needs more ways to generate income and have a larger development team so updates don't take 6+ months.
Came to say this.
@@wiertech9 Well, You can add mods
@@johnsonbro4944 not good enough.
Divinity is great cause you can do things like combine a tomato and a hammer and make tomato sauce. Everything interacts the way you think it would. It’s like they accounted for everything a player might try to do
Idk, I went to wal-mart to get some tomato sauce and when I combined a tomato and hammer they kicked me out and threatened to call the cops.
teleport. one of the most versatile spells in the game. good for movement, great for combat. I carried an ornate chest filled with junk and would just drop it out of my inventory then teleport it onto someone for insane damage and watch them die.
Kenshi deserves an honorable mention too. Can overwhelm the player on the first runs and is totally open to play as you wish
Love Kenshi, played 100+ hours a few years ago and just started playing again so many things i still haven't done
I really hope Falcon never stops narrating these videos. There is just something to perfect about the way he narrates that feels like...relatable, and soothing at the same time.
At first I did not feel as you do. I have since really warmed to him.
Not to mention, CK3 has a huge modding scene, which adds so much more to its depth.
Literally all map games are deep as hell, and I love it, that feeling when you executed a plan PERFECTLY, so fucking satisfying
never tried mods, but I was going trhough this video, and was getting pissed CK3 isnt getting mentioned. Deep game, but also approachable, since you essentially play as one man, and you always get tips what to do. One of those rare strategy games, where expanding your emipire is not always the best option, because it gets so much harder maintaining domestic peace. Conquer too much stuff too fast, and you will get slaughtered by your own peasants.
I dont reccomend the tutorial though, tutorial makes it look to be way harder than it is, I mean game is hard, but understandable to play, where tutorial makes it look like you will need to figure out space agency formulas.
Good game, I heard it had SOIAF mod.
@@YurieSnowie same with Stellaris to me. Something just naturally happen like your neighbours forming NATO-esque pact and you are locked and screwed, and you will scheme for hours to brake it and weaken them all one by one. That stuff to me is way more satisfying than swinging light sabers in third person games, thats just me.
Try Millennium Dawn for Hearts of Iron IV. Is so immersive that you can get lost even if you played and mastered the base game.
Hearts of Iron 4 is probably their game with the most amount of depth.
I really do like the "pauses" where you can just sit and enjoy the gameplay, it doesn't feel so rushed anymore 🤗
Divinity Original Sin 2 was so freaking good.
The depth, the mechanics, the interactivity, the combat, the music, all of it.
It's the gold standard that all RPGs should strive for. :)
for real. i have went through a dozen playthroughs at least and still play the game. friggin love it.
Well... Now it's been "surpassed" by Divinity Original Sin 3... ehm... Baldur's Gate 3 :D
@@WalterLoggettibut really its not - sadly
Pleasant surprise to see VF being mentioned. But true, even back in the VF2 days, when the move lists were much smaller it still had tons of depth and characters like Akira is really hard to master, but could potentially counter any move (losing only to Aoi when she was introduced in VF3) .
It's definitely one that most vasual players think it's stiff and not very fluid, but when you see high level play, it looks like a completely different game, just this years Evo Japan VF Tourney had some amazing matches.
to me tekken was more complex every limb had a button left punch right punch and same with kicks, thats why i preferred tekken it was more control over what i do, the 10 hit combos were complex too just learning those was deep.
@@deeplaysgaming4754 Tekken is easier to pick up and play, that's been its major quality and draw, the design of the buttons representing limbs is actually an intuitive idea, as a series I don't think it's bad or lacking in-depth by any means.
But VF as a game is very much driven by a stricter gameplay design when it comes to what characters can and can't do and high level play is amazing to see. About VF, the gameplay elements such as hitting a character on the ground, it's not realistic, but it's more consistent, same with dodging to the foreground and background, the timing is strict but the game behaves more consistently and gives audio cues to confirm the dodge and later entries have also leaned harder on allowing for Tekken-like combos so it's not like it hasn't been influenced by Tekken or vice versa. It's very common between the franchises.
While Tekken has more freedom of hitting an opponent on the ground and lots of moves that can pick you up from the floor and continue to combo which imo sometimes feel a bit like BS, or side dodge isn't always the most consistent, so it's something you either adjust at high levels or never really enhance your skill.
10 hit combos are nice and a great challenge to memorize and pull off in battle but it's hardly used in higher level play, either because of gaps in the attacks that you can jab out of it or opportunities for low parries which can lead to big combos.
"clip", "clip", "clip"...... You can tell Falcon is definitely more of a gamer than a real life shooter.
I cringe every time I hear it, I instantly went to the comments after hearing him say it multiple times in a row. I knew someone was going to say something lmao
Omg, i was literally about to say this but I wasnt going to be nice about it lol. Its the "nails on the chalkboard" kind of thing for me.
what would the correct terminalogy be? thank you 🙏
@@Agent-Foxy who cares🤯
@@jpxs9121 probably magazine(for like assault rifles. I think maybe clip may be appropriate for hand guns, but I'm not 100% sure on that).
Oxygen Not Included is one of the most complex games ever. It definitely should be on that list.
Yes
Yep. I'd argue that's even more complex than rimworld.
I own this game but have never actually played it. I just buy games when I come across recommendations online from various sources, a big one being Gameranx, lol. I also browse through whatever games are rated Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam and just buy those too. >_>
That said, I discovered that buying games and playing them are entirely different hobbies.
@@salchipapa5843 same i have around 50 games i never played😂
Factorio.
Successfully completing a mission in DCS World using a full fledged F/A 18 module is by far the most complicated gameplay I've experienced. It took literally months of practice just do be able to designate targets and manage radar waypathing
As someone who has a PPL, I can tell you Fligt Sim is as realistic as you can get, and you can learn almost everything and then almost take them skills into a real plane. (just not landing, there's too much 'feel' in landing). I even used it while studying in order to practice radio navigation.
There's a game called X4 which is a space game with super deep mechanics. You fly around, do missions and it escalates so much that you can establish your own empire, compleet with fleets and territory battles. Its a hard game to figure out, but it's incredile
its also a genre
X4 is a genre now they refer to RTS and Paradox games.
@@Legion849 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate)
Nemesis system is underrated and criminally underused. Thank WB for that...😢
Yep. Gotta thank patenting for that on wb.
lol
There's also Freespace and I mean, for it's time, it was very complex. The engine has gone through leaps and bounds thanks to the Freespace Open team, but during it's time it had 30 plus commands just for target aquisition, and you need a lot of them. Sure weapons are simple enough, but each weapon has three damage categories: Hull, Shield, Subsystem, and each ship had subsystems that if you took them out would affect the performance of the ship. You could also pick off turrets off of capships individually, and the larger ones have their own flag which prevents you from destroying them with basic guns (you HAVE to use a anti-capship weapon on these to finish them off) or they take less damage from your weapons, and in FS2, really big ships had special flags which reduced overall damage by a flat rate unless you hit it with a weapon which had a counter flag. The engine also quite literally supports plot armor in the form of events which are built into each individual map. And in FS2 they added nebulae which have constant lightning storms which can jostle your ship's electronics.
Finally the game is built on a unique and realistic physics engine which includes moment of inertia that is available to modify for each individual object - this is despite the game being used to make an arcade shooter in the vein of X-Wing, which is partly it's inspiration.
For commenter's edition, you can add:
- Factorio (most well known on the automation genre)
- ANY JRPG where half of the screen is stats (maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 3?)
- ANY survival game with long endgame mechanics
- Project Zomboid (as mentioned by everyone else)
And dont forget the deepest one of all - game of life, 1 drop of water has about the same number atoms as there are stars in the observable universe. The possibilities are endless, fully ray traced, and perfectly balanced. No need for update patches. What a game.
That skill web in PoE was what drew me to buy into the early beta, the synergies of the skill gem system was just icing on top. It works for cult of meta types but also for folk like me who take skills and actually experiment to see what they can do with them to hell with being an "optimal" clone
PoE is the gold-standard of ARPG's, but imo they went way too far. The amount of knowledge you need to make a really good build is staggering. I really hate the idea of using build guides, and I tried making my own builds over and over. T10 maps was the furthest I ever got, and I still have no idea what half the mechanics do. I still play it once every few seasons because it's an incredible game, but I feel like the dedication and time it takes to learn the systems is kinda ridiculous. I started about 8 years too late though.
cookie cutter meta builds are so boring to me too. I'd rather have a sub-optimal _cool_ build/character/weapon than just using the same thing that everybody else does.
@@SpaceMissile that's why I have so many characters in PoE: I keep making weird builds and trying them out. My current favorite is my totems -only build haha
@@SomeUnkindledAsh I mean it doesn't take that long to learn the game, its just that there are too many shit sources of information, like literally 90% of poe builds on youtube are shit builds but a new player doesn't know that, and they are led astray.
Rimworld is a story generator and if a game was ever made to be modded its this one. Rimworld will take what ever mods you have and build a unique story around them. Rimworld of magic? now raids have spell casters. It's truly an amazing game.
Great video, Falcon. Also props to the people behind the scenes, who make it all possible.
Divinity 2 looks like my type of game. Would've never come across it if it wasn't for y'all.
It's amazing :) you definitely need to play it
Baldurs gate 3 (being made by the same studio) is also something you should keep an eye out for. That game looks like it'll even throw divinity original sin 2 out of the water which is a big deal
Best RPG ever made imo, up there with New Vegas.
Escape from Tarkov is simultaneously the most enjoyable, addicting, and downright riveting video game I’ve ever played, and also the only game I’ve ever played that makes me so mad I had to quit for the sake of my own sanity.
ive taken a good break as well but now that they are taking the time to tear out the bad code fix it and also upgrade to unity 2021 a lot of the issues will finally be fixed and a lot of exploits that cause cheats will disappear
I think every player prays to the game development gods daily for EFTs future.
It’s also the only game I have ever played that gives me the amount of. Serotonin and adrenaline rush, nothing ever like it. That’s why it’s so addicting.
Honestly DOTA 2 deserves a mention here. Objective is simple but hero knowledge, itemization, and player roles take years to master.
Divinity 2 is one of my favourite games ever and being able to play the whole campaign in local coop was awesome.
Cant wait for baldurs get 3 to get a console release
I found Slay the Spire a couple of months ago and I was instantly hooked. The level of thinking you have to develop is close to the one chess players have. Super fun, super hard and quite addictive tbh.
I enjoy it when I want a thinking night.
Idk I'm surprised to see it on the list I don't think it comes near any of the other games. I'm currently on ascension 14 on the huntress maybe it gets harder later
@@monyfornow How's it going 10 month later? i've beaten the game on A20 on all chars, 1200 hours into the game, and i still feel like a noob.
I'm surprised Kingdom Come Deliverance wasn't on this list
I don't think most people have actually given the game a chance, it's deep and takes a lot of focus.
Oxygen Not Included is pretty in-depth with how many different systems you have to intuitively understand and monitor at any given moment.
Zomboid and Kenshi deserve a spot on the list.
I own almost all of the Paradox games, but I’m afraid to play them. Not because they’re too complex, but because every time I do I can basically kiss the entire day goodbye 😂
Rimworld is incredible, it scratches that Dwarf Fortress itch, without being rediculously complicated. The new DLCs made it even more indepth, with survivors having beliefs and social stature. If you wanted you could create a religion and then make one of your survivors the "god" they worship😆
The most in depth survival games that come to my mind are Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead and Unreal World, which merge survival games with old school rougelikes (in other words, ACTUAL rougelikes).
There’s also a stupidly in depth mod for classic Doom that turns it into a tactical shooter. Here’s a description of controls I used when recommending this game to another CZcamsr to give you an idea.
there’s of course the typical doom controls and GZDooms inventory controls, lean controls like System Shock, and a reload that if you hit once fdiscards the mag and you have to hold onto the reload key to hold onto the mag, there’s a weapon sight that sways to imitate actual weapon sway, you have to brace your weapon on walls or your own knees (by crouching) to increase accuracy, you have to check for bleeding or you won’t be able to heal to full health and you have to take off armor to bandage yourself to fix it, BFG blasts and the energy from explosive barrels will eventually revive dead enemies, imps can set you on fire and you have to put it out ether by going to water or by spinning your mouse while crouching (to imitate stop drop and roll), weapons can jam, the berserk pack now has the side effect of making it to any damage that you take when you use it hits you all at once when it wears off causing a bunch of debuffs (and probably something else I’m forgetting). Basically while I enjoy this mod I think it’ll still be a perfect P A I Nmass video topic.
cataclysm mentioned
UR was unreal and Qud is maybe my favorite game, definitely my favorite roguelike. Cogmind is pretty good too
For most games, the part where you have a hard time is my favorite part.
In games like Far Cry, I enjoy the first 3rd of the game, where I have crap weapons, no perks, don't know the map and have to be looking over my shoulder all the time. I like having to be sneaky and tactical, having to run and hide sometimes.
The beginning of No Mans Sky is the best. I like needing to work and search for what I need, dealing with un-unpgraded ships and weapons.
Once you figure out the sucess loop of the games and have superior equipment and abilities, it just becomes a route.
I agree about FarCry... FarCry 5 companion system was epic.
I would give my two companions each a Helicopter and their perks
would be auto heal and benifits & they would rain fire as ur hunting
on foot. 5 & esp the NewDawn sequel would epic from a gameplay pov.
Yeah the twin villains were beyond hated but atleast you hunt them.
@@CT-nb5lm yeah you could put Cheeseburger and Peaches on and take a nap while they cleared the map 🤣.
I always ran Grace and Boomer. I tried Herk but he kept point-blanking the rocket launcher 5 feet from me, killing us both 🤣.
Even then, that was too easy. But by then I was OP and going for mayhem anyways.
My favorite tactic in New Daw was hucking a steak into a base and letting the cougars and bears distract them. 🤣
Far Cry mayhem is epic. Even in 6, the mayhem was top notch if you set it up properly. I would ghost-ride a tanker truck with C4 on it into the front gate of a compound and set it off, then start lobbing the chem bombs in so the remaining men went berzerk on each other.
Watchdogs 2 is pretty epic for mayhem too. Just call the cops and a rival gang on a group and just spectate as reinforcements keep rolling in. 🤣🤣🤣
You can get a good NPC war going in Ghost Recon Wildlands too.
Rage 2 is awesome for mayhem too. The weapons and powers they give you... its superior to Doom in my opinion. Running 35mph with an 8 guage shotgun into a crowd.... man thats a good time.
Once upgraded, you actually run faster than your car 🤣.
Def Jam: Fight for NY had a pretty complex system as well. Combining different martial art styles would change the stances and move sets depending on which one came first.
Agree. They should really make a remake of the first game
Nah, ffny was the best (2nd of 3)
I forgot all about Def Jam that was an amazing game, I still listen to walk with me by joe budden just because of that game
For a future commenter edition my suggestion would be Amazing Cultivation Simulator. It looks a bit like Rimworld at first but branches out a bit once you actually establish a sect. The simple explanation of what it's about is that it's like Dragon Ball where there are distinct power levels you can train towards. Well for one character type, once you start to get the hang of that they start introducing more along with plenty of other systems. It also has a bunch of other crazy stuff going on that could easily fit other lists.
when you can die simply by building a room incorrectly, yeah. Its deep.
I love/hate that game. You even need to know freaking fengshui when building because that affects the characters.
Glad to see Path of Exile here.
As an example of the ridiculous depth in PoE, I have a character that solely uses totems. No other magic, not many weapons, just totems. And it works and it's fun🤘
If I hear falcon refer to a magazine as a clip one more time, I’m going to lose my ever loving mind
Drunk Falcon and big haired boss Jake are my boys for my daily fix of gaming goodness 👏🏼
Warframe could have been on this list too. On the surface it may just look like a looter mmo, but as u put more and more hours in, u start to realize how deep the game is. The modding system, The eidolon hunts, liches , railjack and many many more aspects makes it a very complex game
I Love warframe
Game is such a shitty terrible waste of time
It has A LOT of content but it doesn’t have depth like some games make the player feel. Like, as an example, collecting all that fish doesn’t destroy the ecosystem, or the economy… but it will help get you some reputation.
This channel will NOT talk about Warframe for some reason. I have never played a game that ticks so many boxes. And I've been gaming since the 70's ( first system was Odyssey 2 )
Love warframe but got tired of the grind eventually it just felt like a job and all the new content when it came out just felt like my previous stuff was being outdated and I had to go grind again
Kerbal Space Program. This game madr me fall in love with space exploration, rocket science, orbital manoeuvre, rendez-vous mechanics. It is so good !
You guys should give Noita a look! It's a procedurally generated Alchemy focused combat/platformer roguelike... but that barely scratches the surface. The game has one of the most complex magic systems ever. And so many layers of hidden secrets. It's totally worth checking out! I believe it was only a Steam release.
Yeah, i thought it would be in the top 5.
Divinity original sin 2 is a very underrated game. It deserves more love and attention. Crpgs looked really boring and tedious to me until I played dos2.
Its not an underrated game.
Its a game that is rated 10/10 on GameSpot.
People talk about this game first whenever a Crpg is concerned.
DOS2 definitely not a underrated game. It got a lot of praise on release, even before release a lot of people talked about them because they got funding from Kickstarter.
@@respicio2990 Just because it's a good game and rated properly doesn't mean it can't be more popular given how approachable it is even to people who don't play crpgs a lot
I've been playing Ghost of Tsushima lately and I've spent more time doing all of the side missions and I got around to finishing Yuriko's story and it was one of, if not the most intriguing and heartfelt side missions I've ever played.
I'd love to see you guys put it into a category related to "side missions that were better than main missions"
or something along those lines.
Great idea!
The Paz side mission in Metal Gear Solid V that unlocks after completing the game should be high up on that list. I actually almost cried from playing that side mission.
For non-video games, Magic: The Gathering is super complicated when you get into the details. It does now have a video game version as well, though that's a limited version of the game in a few ways.
Well it’s a game where they’ve added new rules twice a year for 30 years. How can that still be going?
X4 Foundations really needs to be on this list - it isn't THAT obscure! One that is obscure would be Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children. It plays somewhat like X-COM but with a ton of mechanics. Crafting, capturing/training pets, building robot pets, eating different types of foods before a mission, multiple classes per character, and so on.... but the real hugeness comes with the skills. There are sooooo many skills!! There are skills anyone can use, skills for specific characters, skills for all types of pets, skills bonuses that happen when you equip certain combinations of skills, and so even further on!
Yeah I was thinking lack of X4 and Arma were both surprising.
Yeah arma and x4 not on the list is kinda a crime. I watched like 15h of youtube guides and played for like 40 hours and i feel like i still dont know what to do in x4
Depending on how you play it, modded Minecraft can end up becoming very complex. You have modpacks like GregTech which can involve spending thousands of hours automating everything and mods like Hex Casting which provide completely programmable and Turing-complete magic
Just the Redstone itself is pretty complex, for a game where you "just stack blocks." I don't really think that but have heard that said before.
Among the most ridiculous Minecraft things I've ever seen was the team who created a computer inside Mincraft, complete with processing power and a basic display, using primarily redstone interactions. Then they programmed a basic version *of Minecraft* and ran it on their computer in Minecraft.
Yes. Minecraft is capable of running iterations OF ITSELF within the game itself... Try that anywhere else.
Cultist Simulator gets pretty deep and complex for something that just looks like a card game.
Paradox games are the only games I have ever played where they seem to get harder as you learn more about them
I love this kind of game, the ones that you can get completely lost in and before you know it hours have flown by. Thanks for the list.
Where is NOITA ? I was really surprized that you didn't add it ! Each pixel of this game is individualy being simulated .
Gameranx is the only good list gaming CZcamsr anymore
Just an FYI, very few modern weapons use "clips" to hold rounds. Modern weapons systems rely on magazines to not only hold the rounds but protect them whereas a clip is literally just a metal clip that holds the rounds in way that they are exposed and easy to insert into the built in magazine of the weapon.
Love me some STS and it's so hard to pick my favorite character because they all play so differently but poison silent plus some shivs is one of my favorites. The defect frost slots and focus is so op. Like the game is so deep to the point that sometimes you just need to skip taking a card just because if you kinda already got you deck where you want it and don't need the fat in it.
Thanks for showing one of my favorite games some love
Dude. Divinity is like playing fully fleshed out DnD. Skill checks and all. I love it, so complex
Yes, BG3 will be so dope. Never jumped on early access, just gonna experience a finished game.
@@TheRealUcanUwill same here. I can’t wait bro
Caves of Qud is a good one too. The number of builds you can do is staggering and the ways you can interact with the environment is amazing. Not the prettiest but those mechanics are top notch. In early access but the updates have been non stop.
I recently played persona 5 royal and it seemed pretty deep. Felt like a new gameplay mechanic was added every hour
Slay the spire is very good. I was surprised at its many play styles. Very underrated game indeed.
Does The game Kenshi counts? I find it really complex and fun
definitely
Oi, how can you stand that game? Lol I tried to play it and it just wasn't for me
@@patmalloy3569 I think is not for everyone, I really enjoyed it and manage to go from scratch to a huge clan needing some mods to expand even more, but like I said it might be like root beer I guess, not everyone's taste. Do you find it hard to play or not fun at all?
@@Grimixx not fun at all. Boring. I even did some studying to try and learn how to play it
Rdr2, no other game has made me feel like I am actually playing as a human being. I loved the realism mechanics and thought they deepened my connection to the gameplay and the world. Not to mention Arthur is the best videogame character ever imo.
Mass Effect comes close, but it's also an older game trilogy. There's a reason so man people have a dozen or more play throughs. The Legendary Edition really did give the game some new life. Still very much worth playing. And if you love a game were you begin to see the other characters as real people, like in RDR2, then you will love Mass Effect. There's a reason that N7 day, (November 7th) is such a big thing, and why Mass Effect 4 is one of the most anticipated games being worked on right now.
Immersive is not in depth, even if they go hand in hand a lot. Rdr2 is a fantastic game but doesn't scratch the surface of this list.
@@hiiipowerbass2337 I disagree. It depends on how you view the game. If you try to earn the gold badge on every mission, first time through, it is very in depth...and realistic. You have to think on the fly...unless you cheat and watch a bunch of play throughs so that you know exactly what to do.
The realism is off the charts. Like, you can't just throw a dead deer on your horse and ride around with it forever...you have to get it to the butcher fairly quickly.
And that's just one thing. Is it the deepest, most complex game ever? No, but it's plenty deep, if you play it without walk throughs.
@@leroyrussell8766 You're still misunderstanding, it's not about realism or many mechanics making a game in depth. It's about single mechanics having very in-depth systems
@@hiiipowerbass2337 I'm not interested in arguing semantics. RDR2 is a quite complex, but it can't do everything. No game can. Star Citizen, when it's done, is going to be amazingly complex. It already is, even in Alpha. But it can't be 100% realistic, and complexity still has limits...or people won't play. Star Citizen's lack of hand holding and complexity will be too much for many people.
Being insanely complex does not necessarily make a game better. People sometimes forget that the point of a game is enjoyment...fun.
RDR2, Mass Effect, etc...are insanely fun to play.
The atelier series. The alchemy system is as basic or complex as you want it. Between setting up base materials with certain traits you want, that will flow into a future object you are crafting. And then theres elemental proficencies and requirements, special rare items, and honestly to beat the ultimate superboss of each game, you NEED to max out every stat with equipment you crafted by mastering the mechanics of alchemy.
Nice, those complex mechanics are really needed and expected part of the games, and sure thing help the immersion. I like the most the Divinity part, with all these physics correct interactions. It is like in the old games, where you expect to be able to do something, but cannot - here they fixed that.
I never realized how many complex games I like. Does Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead count? If so, maybe you can add it to the next list.
It does. Project Zomboid also goes in the same category
Complex and comprehensive titles are already *chefs kiss*, always gets the bang for your buck.
it counts, but sadly it has the most jank ass control scheme newer players really wont be able to easily get into it.
@@unironicallydel7527 That's true... maybe Caves of Qud would be a better pick, just for accessibility.
Divinity 2's stealing from the shopkeepers trick is insane if you pull it off right. You can leave the first area of the game with over 100k easy.
[LONG COMMENT BUT I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN THIS BETTER]
i wish you added at least 1 esport in here, and we all know dota is king when it comes to amount of depth in terms of mechanics and unique interactions with skills/items/heroes/pve, theres so much to take into account in every game like timings, map control, builds, keeping track of your opponents levels/item/skills, and in fights you mind you and your team and your opponents positioning, skill use, regen, theres just so much i feel like im flooding here. And 120 heroes each unique in their role in a game but alternate builds/roles are possible due to the way the game is balanced, aside from skills and items there are aghanims scepters/shards that could add a new skill or improve an existing one, those items can be bought or dropped by roshan/tormentor depending on the state of the game, talents, neutral items, man i could keep going but theres just so much. It doesnt even feel like other games in the same genre (mobas) come close in terms of depth and i can say that because of the recent massive update, it feels like icefrog wants to reinvent the genre itself.
Then theres Apex legends, the closest game that i feel like can rival dota in terms of mechanics that can be balanced and tapped into, and multiple different variables ensures every match is unique, its just not as mature as dota is but its got a lot of potential, like a lot.
[THIS COMMENT CAN GO ON FOR DAYS IF I DIDNT RESTRAIN MYSELF WITH THE MECHANICS IN DOTA LIKE IT BLOWS MY MIND]
Good on the writers putting DF at the top. As a pre steam player and pre 2012 player I love the fact DF is getting all the support now and love
Tunic would be my choice. That guidebook mechanic and slowly picking up pages to fill it out was so incredibly cool and deep
I knew gameranx was dumb but calling a magazine a clip is funny
@@Jownzy tough talk coming from a guy with two first names.
Virtua Fighter was a fun and difficult game. Playing it on a Sega Saturn controller was definitely a challenge. I was just thinking about this game on a previous Gameranx episode. I'm glad you guys mentioned it! Always the best gaming content. 👌
I loved Sega Saturn and Virtua Fighter when they first came out.
@@gameANDchange sold my saturn for a playstaton tekkens left/right punch and feet mechanic made it more complex you could hit a right punch then left then same with kicks and mix up attacks wheras vf controls were like one button for punch one for kick but wasnt as intuative. also the 10 hit combos that used the left right mechanic to make some amazing combos.
In Divinity 2 you can actually combine nails with your footwear to make them resist slipping on ice surfaces during combat
I often think about the Atelier Franchise when it comes to this topic.
Most of the Atelier games have a ridiculously simple alchemy system. It's simple, but it can get really, really deep and involved to the point that you will find yourself staring at menu screens for hours working hard to make the best possible gear that you can make
I love the depth of Divinity: Original Sin 2. It's the kind of depth I wish Skyrim and Fallout 4 had. At least you can mod it in.
Same!! At least we have New Vegas for that.
All fun and games but Minecraft has redstone and no mechanic can compete with that
True
when your mechanic is literally electrical engineering
i remember making a redstone code lock door once in high school and I was so proud of myself.
To be honest, I'm better with redstone than with electricity itself... but, I felt Redstone so much harder HAHAHA
That’s true, but you can spend hundreds of hours in the game and never use it. It’s an option but isn’t essential to the game like this list
THANK YOU for the Virtua Fighter mention! I got big into VF4 when it first came out and boy did I fall into that rabbit hole!
Really happy to see Slay the Spire on Rank 4. for a game as simple looking as this, there is so much going on. i sit at 1200 hours and eventhough i have beaten it on the hardest difficulty on all characters, i still feel like i suck at the game and only started to really get into the depths of the mechanics and consistently winning strategies. a Masterpiece.
Mount and Blade: Bannerlord... there is so much to the game. The system of learning how to smith things, the character development, the kingdoms and the politics of it... the economy and where to place your workshops to maximize income...also the number of different ways you can go about "winning" the game.
Some go MUCH DEEPER
Football Manager deserved to be on this list. That game has an insane amount of depth and you can choose how many of those systems you want to do yourself and how many you want your staff to be handling!
There's a new procedural generation city detective life sim called Shadows of Doubt where you can enter every building and gather evidence on every civilian. Very abridged summary, it goes pretty deep as well. Just read some of the Steam reviews
"ammo in the clip"... yes, Tarkov does have some guns that use clips, like the SKS... but most guns use what are called magazines
☝️🤓
Well actually ☝️🤓 - you, probably
@@efuntadegbayi89 only ignorant people would make fun of correct knowledge. stay stupid, i guess.
War thunder
It’s almost fun
Realistic damage models, so you have to pick where to shot the enemy vehicles. And that means knowing those weak spots, and knowing how to maximize your own armor
Cat's getting drunk is both genius and hilarious
I know it's not popular in North America, but Football Manager series deserves to be on this list.
I put so many hours into slay the spire. Such a good and frustrating game
Game is comprehensive af, can relate with putting a lot of game hrs lol
Divinity is a weird one, it feels less like the system has endless opportunities and more like the devs just manually input each and every option you could think of in there. Achieves basically the same thing and rimworld is also good at that. Surprised Arma didn’t make it in here but tarkov did, as many if not more movement keys and flight simulation can be turned up to flight sim levels with endless mods for equipment and vehicles from ww2 to modern day.
I like how, of all the Paradox games, you pick arguably the most beginner friendly/least deep one.
I know right? Hearts of Iron on the other hand....
Sad you didn’t try and get into why Virtua Fighter is deep. Here is some thing that come to mind:
- complex move lists with throws and moves specific to being side turned, back turned, near a wall etc.
- many characters have multiple stances with different move lists
- things as simple as throw breaks require very specific mind games and understanding of the opponent’s move set
- Difficult execution
- overall meta game system complex, way more complex than the regular rock paper scissors and add 3d movement to that
It’s an amazing game if you give it your life. Super in depth and well made. So yea like a few 100 people play it in the world seriously….😂
Nioh 2 is the most rewarding game to master I've come across in a long long time. Every weapon is so different from one another they each have more depth than many soulslikes have in their entire game.
also think it would deserve a spot on the list
Nioh 2 has no depth. It is just Dark Souls rip off.
@@mackesaulice it's inspired by Souls but the mechanics have origins more in Ninja Gaiden and are far far more in depth than any Souls game (the 3 stances + all those yokai abilities + ki pulses etc) I love the Souls games and the rest of their library (especially Sekiro) but yeh Nioh 2 and Sekiro take the top spot for my favourites in the genre. I haven't tried Lies of P yet but I hear that may also be a good contender.
@@mackesaulice It does have depth. See. I can do that too.
Did you even played Elden Ring?@@thishandleistacken
Slay the Spire: one of the deepest card games ever!
Shows some of the most basic fights from the start of the run. :^)
Just show any random ten seconds from an A20 spreedrun.
Flight Simulator is so realistic I was learning to fly for real and it actually taught me how to play the game. I'm dead serious.
Imo Hunt Showdown could be an honorable mention here. The amount of mechanics, game systems, and interactions in the game is pretty impressive.
I really want to try a 4X Strategy game but they all seem so daunting
I'd recommend trying total Warhammer 3. It simplifies things a lot.
@@bruhder5854 Thanks man, i'll have a look
You could give Ozymandias a try. It is relatively simple, but the game systems interconnect well and a playthrough does not take more than 60-70 minutes on a small map.
Wait was Age of Wonders 4 a 4x?
SCUM needs to be on this list! It has in-depth systems, like how for example within the health system there's macronutrient and vitamin percentages, it's awesome! (it's an apocalyptic survival game in early access, but has a very active and transparent dev team!)
its been in early access since like 2018 though, might be a pass for most people
@@unironicallydel7527 It has, but they are actively developing it and working towards release! It's why I mentioned how the dev team is active and communicative, seeing as many (if not most) early access games do not have teams like that.
Scum is still moving towards release, slowly maybe, but moving forward all the same! The EA is also why they aren't marketing it yet.
I'd say give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised.. I was anyway :)
football manager deserves a shout, it is very realistic on a managers life
Some games I'm surprised didn't get a mention; Black Desert Online, it's incredibly complex for an mmo with lots of different systems you might never touch even after hundreds of hours playing. X4 Foundations is another that deserved a mention, the economy system along is just mind boggling, even wars in distant regions of space can impact the economy or a single station being destroyed that's critical tot he local supply chain and that's without even getting into the inter-species relations. Project Zomboid should definitely have been mentioned too, because of the massive scope the game has for emergent gameplay with the skill systems, ai mechanics and different choices you can make. I could probably keep listing games, but then I'd be doing your jobs for you. This needs a follow up vid!
