@@f3nixfire The music industry is a joke when it comes to awards. They like to award big names or over actual quality. Sometimes those line up, but not often. Thats why people like Beyonce get nominated every year even though nobody could name a song of hers in the last 5 or more years. They just have a select group they pretend is amazing no matter what and they get every award. Its basically just a circle jerk of music industry elites

The lead singer, David Draiman was born in Brooklyn, NY to an Orthodox Jewish family. His Grandfather, who survived the Holocaust, was a famous Temple cantor, as was his father and father before. David was supposed to follow the tradition. Even attending Yeshiva. He obviously went in a different direction and much of his family didn't accept it. Many of Disturbed songs carry deep meanings, suicide; addiction; recovery; It's worth watching an interview or two. David and the rest of the guys are soft spoken, funny guys.

Their a 4 person group. The drummer was on the thunderous drums, one member was on the keyboard and the other was playing the acoustic guitar. The rest of them were an independent orchestra, who also did a fantastic job. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best, if not the best, live performance of all time. Just incredible!

-David Draiman: "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right."

My interpretation of the song The Sound of Silence.
This song is written with two different perspectives or consciousnesses singing
it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very
long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective
of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the
    perspective of the awakened.
    Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence
Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in
the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing
something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted
the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware.
In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone
under the Light of truth, because they refused to buy into the lies the
dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in
the armor of dark, a tear in the matrix, if you will and in that moment they
saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
    No one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence
And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds
    (awakened Ones) telling
those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy
those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle way,
but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of
being attacked by those that controlled the sound of silence.
They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not
to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became
aware of the Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time,
    it really pissed them off.
"Fools," said I, "You do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them
Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead
remained in the sound of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence."
The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the
things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet.
They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by
consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through
their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the
people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship
sailing into the Light at the end?

I am SO happy to have found your reaction. You truly appreciate music (“Both Sides Now” is a song my Dad introduced me to and became a personal anthem in my life along with “I am a Rock” by Simon & Garfunkel). The reaction & conversation & vocal teacher notes were all wonderful. This song gives me chills & I’m glad you did too

It doesn't matter what music genre you prefer, I'm yet to meet anyone from any music genre that doesn't like Disturbed's The sound of silence.

I've been watching a bunch of these vocal coach reviews, and very few even mention the fact that he gave this amazing performance, SITTING DOWN, because he was so sick at the time. I'm not a vocal coach, but I'd love to hear a professional opinion on the difficulty of getting that kind of projection, while seated.

I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis ... Excellent ........ David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning.
The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.

Loved the analysis. I looked into Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah because of this. I'd put it in the top 3 versions of the song. Rufus Wainright's version is my go to, but I think that's because the song is so interpretive. Jeff Buckley's version is softer, more vulnerable, which can relate to Samson's weakness. Pentatonix' cover shifts the conversation from being about Samson to being about Samson and Delilah in verse 3. Rufus is more like a passionate narrator.
