  • Speak French with Confidence with my 4-step methodology: bit.ly/3qMPU7L
I always found, and still do, it difficult to know how to say looking forward to in French, and how to say can't wait in French. There's a sort of mentality different between English and French that shows when trying to translate these. French people don't really know how to help. But they do have two phrases that they use to express the emotion, that I've deduced from a lot of time listening and speaking in French. We go through them in today's video.
One thing's for sure, don't use "excité(e)" unless you're sure about what you're doing!
And a funny anecdote about sandwiches. Yum!
    Enjoy!

What do you think of my acting? Is it something I should do more of? I won't be offended if you say no.😂

Une autre expression très courante pour exprimer son impatience est d'utiliser l'adverbe "vivement" associé à un nom ou une proposition :

I love the circumflex fact. Then it makes sense in Etre's relations to Estar and Esse (figuring that Etre would then be Estre). I'm glad I joined as a supporter!

One phrase I have learned which I think you have probably mentioned elsewhere is "Il me tarde " eg "Il me tarde de te voir" I can't wait to see you or "Il me tarde déjà" ( I can't wait already!) I just find that particular construction easier to memorise. eg."J’ai acheté une nouvelle moto. Il me tarde de l’essayer." I've bought a new motorbike. I can't wait to try it out. "Je viens d’acheter une nouvelle robe. Il me tarde de la porter ! I've just bought a new dress. I can't wait to wear it . ( not that you would say that last one yourself of course Alex !)

re. Your point about overusing j’ai hate, innerFrench has a video about why the French don’t express strong emotions in speech as we do in English.

Thank you for this! I’m kicking the rust off my French for a vacation this year and was trying to communicate with the hotel before hand. Glad I didn’t directly translate how excited I was!
