  • SPE 6.7 Powerstroke High Flow Oil filter housing with CAT oil filters.
    Through years of testing at SPE our team has developed an oil filter housing that not only utilizes CAT filtration but also adds the huge flow needed to keep these engines alive under extreme conditions.

    Just gonna throw this out there because I see the keyboard mechanics starting already. The restrictions that create pressure in the system are the bearings and piston cooling nozzles and the rifling galleys in the block. Make more flow after the pump and through the filter is only helping matters. You always always want the least amount of pressure drop through the filter in probably every filter application. I’m sure someone will come up with one that u don’t. Nice job as always guys making power strokes great again. Also little food for thought,why do you think it is that ford never gives us a oil pressure gauge? They use a dummy switch for a reason … where in the circuit does that dummy switch go? Do your research for the answer and you will see that what spe has done will only help everyone

    So that stainless steel adapter means it’s for the cat filters. Is that removable to go back to ford filters as a worst case scenario. Or only for cat filters. Thanks.

    I read a concern for the filter bypass valve. Cat has the bypass in the mount, Ford has bypass in the filter… both focused more towards cold engine & oil, not dirty oil. Is there a concern for colder climate, cold engine starts if lacking a bypass valve.

      @@richardbowles7690 no, didn’t get any reply… thus I won’t use CAT Filters. I’ll take notice of lacking a by-pass valve. Obviously important if both Ford & CAT include in their designs… if not present, that’s a concern to me if 2 highly innovated Companies think it’s important enough to include.

    • @SPEMotorsport

      If you see some of the casting variances that we have seen on the factory housings you would understand. Some of the engines we have torn down over the years with bearing issues whether main or rod bearing problems usually had casting flash or misshaped passages in the filter housing. Its a bottle neck in the oil system if you look at all the other passages in the engine (on the pressure side) they are machined not cast. So yes it may not be a problem for everyone but it can be for some. We like creating the best products we can based off of data we personally see and or experience. If you look at our comparison photos its very evident that the machined passages are more consistent and larger, there is no down fall to that.

    I am always looking for better filtration and overall performance, but alot of folks are saying that since the cat filters dont have a bypass built into them, you could get oil starvation on a cold start. What are your thoughts on this? I like the higher performing filter media, but I am worried that combined with no bypass could be a problem on a cold start.

    • @jforu33
      @jforu33 Před 9 dny

      It's not the Bypass valve you should be worried about. It's the lack of a Flowback valve that holds back oil in the engine to prevent dry starts (especially in cold climates.) that you should be worried about..

    • @SPEMotorsport

    Do the CAT oil filters have an anti drain back valve on them?

    • @SPEMotorsport
      @SPEMotorsport  Před rokem +3

      No, The CAT 1R-1807 oil filter was designed to function vertically so it doesn't need an anti-drain-back valve. It is not needed in the 6.7 PSD application. The fl2051s was designed so it can be used in different mounting locations for different applications. We designed our housing to be perfectly vertical.

    What are the recommended oil change intervals running the cat filters short Vs long?

    • @SPEMotorsport
      @SPEMotorsport  Před rokem +1

      That's very relative to the type of oil and how your using the vehicle. We always recommend having a 3rd party lab test the oil periodically through its use to gain a base to judge off of, as far as mileage/engine hours. On the flip side increasing the capacity will always increase the life of the oil because you have more oil in the system. From Testing we found the oil degrades long before the filter does. Being the filters were designed for much larger capacity applications this makes sense.

    • @SPEMotorsport
      @SPEMotorsport  Před rokem

      The Dragster is used as an extreme test bed its not designed for that application. Oil pressure is the same, technically better because at higher volumes their is no pressure drop across the housing. We have been testing this for over a year in work truck applications with very good results.
