- Fred Armisen didn't come up through improv or standup comedy, but he did have a history of impressions and characters which made him perfect for SNL.

He wasn't attached to the outcome. He was grateful for every moment. Master of manifestation.
How I wish I was like him in this regard!
@@psychekaleidoscope7665 Yeaaah... keeping my heart light is probably the crux of the matter. I'm a natural worrier. :-D But thanks anyway.
Armisen is one, chill dude.
Thanks for the synopsis, Captain Landmark
Thought so too
I like that he wasn't nervous for his audition, his mindset was like "I got nothing to lose so why be nervous, just have fun.'
Must be nice to just choose not to be nervous
Fred is so authentically himself and a comedy genius.
Gutter Punks for life! Love Portlandia
Facts
The way he’s talking makes him sound like he’s still extremely thankful to this day
Fred Armisen just seems like a really cool and like genuinely good person. He's so funny but so down-to-earth I wish he was my friend lol
Talk to the women that have been in his life and you will get a different perspective.
yes, seems to be. he has quite a reputation of being sociopathic.
@@rdecredico Source?
@@Leatherfacet Google it.
There are many credible sources.
@@Leatherfacet…. 2nd and 8th hand accounts
And his feet didn't even touch the ground.
I was on a subway platform once and was about to pass him and my reaction for some reason was to touch his shoulder as he passed bc I was thinking “is that Fred Armisen?!”. He turned around as we passed and smiled at me. It was such a cool moment
Fred is such a sweet guy. Happy for his success
'best call ever' thats awesome
There are many very talented, deserving people out there. Good to see that some get their shot and they succeed.
I love that Fred's kind of the whole "not nervous" thing happened to Bill Hader too. Both these guys at some point in their SNL Audition were like ... yeah man I got nothing to lose so might as well -- cause snl was a different career path. Idk its kinda sweet.
Fred is one of those guys that made every sketch he was in that much better. It takes a truly special person to be able to pull that off.
"Let's sit down in this Sequoia seating arrangement."
I just laughed so hard at this; just HOW he said it.
“I saved the number…I saved it as ‘best call ever’”. 🔥
he saved the number as best call ever im crying
Something about this interview makes me feel so hopeful. What a beautiful person.
Best call ever. How very simple and genuine
Marci Klein...thank you for bringing Fred Armisen into our lives!
I could listen to Fred Armisen all day.
Fred Armisen is the Philosopher King of Comedians.
So glad they took a chance on him. His humor is so non-traditional and off-beat he might not have made it otherwise.
What a gorgeous slice of Fred's memory! Love this story!
My favorite moments of SNL are Fred and Bill Hader together, cracking up about each other and breaking character and sketch.
These interview, and ones similar to it about how casting can work, give such perspective into how preparation, attitude and confidence can make all the difference. Thank you for posting this.
I love Fred... even his characters seem genuine.
He has so many good characters, the amount of characters on Portland is alone is amazing, and all of the are so different
Such a humble and sincere man!
He is my number 1 favourite male cast of snl...i admire him so so much, he has so interesting personality and the talent..no words
Armisen is one of the most underrated comedians of our era.
His face in 3:44 is just pure disbelief. Like he never really expected the call. What a guy.
Love that his big take away was being in the same space as George Harrison & meeting Lorne, who knew him! That was a great episode too!
Thanks for posting! Fred seems like a very cool guy.
I have no idea about how he is in a professional standing, but all I know is that I met him at a festival in California in 2019 when I had a head full of LSD and he was extremely gracious and kind. Here's hoping I make it into a stand-up bit of his.
Such a great story. Amazing to hear this after years of loving everything he did on snl. One of my favs
His monolgue on the episode he hosted is my favorite of all time..
It's so great. That, and the Tommy Palmese one man show sketch are all time bests.
I'm so happy! I've been waiting so long for an Off Camera episode with Fred!
I love Fred so much. He deserved it because he’s brilliant
He fully immerses me in every character he plays.
Changing Things same here 🙂
The very first time I saw Fred on SNL I knew he was very talented and would eventually do something great. Portlandia.
RaisedByCats Portlandia is the best!!
@@vicknikkole I know, right! Credit to both Fred and Carrie.
I still re-watch all the episodes to this day because they're so good! Happy others share my enthusiasm.
Fred is my favorite forever. Favorite what you ask? He’s just my favorite and that’s it.
How can not not have a good day after hearing this?
I'm more impressed he could finish dinner with everyone and not say anything. I'd have to quickly lie and make up a reason to leave so that I could tell someone.
I can’t ever take ANYTHING he says seriously. He’s the best deadpan tall-tale storyteller ever.
so grateful for him on SNL, brought me so many laughters
LOVE this story. Fred is an inspiration.
Very humble and gracious.
Such a favorite on SNL and so much more!!! Portlandia fan, loved Netflix special and loved him in The Promotion.....
So sweet & humble.
LOVE Fred Armisen ... his impression of swinging a bat is priceless
I absolutely love him! He's talented and caring
Great storytelling facilitated by a fantastic interviewer 🙂
“It’s your problem if...” 😂👍
That was just Amazing!.Good for you and fine work.
Love this story! Fred is a gem.
Fred seems awesome
One of those faces that just makes me laugh. He doesn't need to say or do anything.
Gosh, I love him
Oh Sam you are a true gem, thank you so much for doing interviews like this, Im working on a documentary (very early planning stages) but I know I want to base alot of it on interviews, and watching how you interact and ease your guests into a comfort zone that enables you to connect and bring out inspiring and sincere reflections is like cerebral cheesecake for my mind.
The light shines
What a fantastic story. I would love to have his attitude about life.
Gotta love the fred.
Ooh Mlep ( Clay ) nos🥰
Best. Call. Ever....so sweet ;)
What an amazing story.
THAT is AWESOME!!
Imagine that rush of excitement when she asked him about his possible deal with Comedy Central.
Love love love Fred. ☺💋
God, I love Fred.
.. best call ever
love your talks 🧡
Fred I love how you played the blind senator......
Fred we love you.
Legit made me cry
Wow what a great story!
Fascinating. great story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Honestly, if I could ever be interviewed on this show, that would be my moment
Love this!
Amazing that the character around which he built his successful audition is the one that never really clicked on the show.
Him and Darrell Hamond were Incredible Impressionist .
How can u not like this guy?
Wonderful.
I love this
His ‘Regine’ character is so wacky. Lmao 😂
Fred and Tim Heidecker are my favorite human beings
punk rock drummer? Awesome
Yeah he’s actually a really talented drummer
He played with Devo a year or so ago. I have to admit I'd probably love to have lived Fred's life, except I'd avoid Portland entirely, knowing what it became after that TV show made it look like the homeland for snotty adult children. Now guess what it's full of!
Check out his old band Trenchmouth from Chicago. They made a few records in the 90s. They never got huge, but were somewhat known in the DIY punk scene.
His audition is the closest thing to an Andy Kaufman piece yet.
"Venezuela has the best patients, because of gun."
"Viva venezuela!"
Its hard to believe Fred. Always.
In an alternative universe the Smashing Pumpkins did replace Jimmy Chamberlain with Fred and he was the drummer on Adore.
This was in 2001 and its before texting? What kind of phone did he have?
Cute story. Good for him
The man can tell a hell of a story, doomed to succeed.
Bummer the jacket messed up the audio here. Great interview.
Fred Armisen rules
Right.
pROPS tO tH3 hUMaN t0ilET!!! Fred'sdaMANN
Fred Armisen is probably the nicest human being.
Unless you are dating him.
rdecredico Why is that?
@@arsakellariadis I am not sure.
Maybe because he is a misogynist?
@@rdecredico That's a pretty serious accusation. Where do you base it? Also I was under the impression that he was gay. Maybe I'm wrong.
@@arsakellariadis I am not the one making the accusation. Use your google machine. Google his history with women.
Sometimes it works out....
I didn't see Flash Gordon.
