- Hi fantastical beings!
In this finale I will be swatching all the paints in my sophisticated Sennelier watercolor palette. They are a honey based paint and quite something! Let me know what you think and what color is your favourite. There are also 3 colors by non Sennelier brands - Schmincke, Holbein and Roman Szmal.
Enjoy!

Just a note- I travel with Sennelier paints from the tube, in pans. I do not have them more than half full, but they’ve never been messy. However, my palette has time to cure/dry, I’m not sure that would be the same if they were pored “the day before”.
I probably have an equal number of Sennelier tube paint/pan paint. I like the formulas for different reasons while working, but in the final product I rarely see a difference.
My favorite paints😊 Sennelier offers half pans that are fully dry. The tubes generally don't dry down when poured out.
I have a Sennilier pallet of about 55 colors. It’s my fav watercolor at this point but I never let them dry out. I keep them in the fridge and make sure to spray them before I put them back when I’m done painting. They always stay wet like they’re just from the tube but that’s the way I like them. My paintings are noticeably nicer when I paint with the Sennilier. Lately I’ve been experimenting with using transparent colors only..
Sennelier was my first love when it comes to watercolor paints and I have collected most of the line over the last many years. For artist-grade paints, Sennelier in the 21 ml tubes is also an excellent value. When my husband and I went to Paris, I visited the Sennelier mothership across the street from the Louvre, and it was a great experience. My favorite colors include Yellow Sophie, Helios Purple, and Chinese Orange. I had to buy Yellow Sophie to see what it looked like, and it didn't disappoint.
Thank you for this interesting and visually appealing video. I’ve done a couple of things to dry the paint after pouring into a pan. One is to place the tin in an unlit gas oven. They stay a little warm all the time as a result of the pilot light. It’s not too hot to do damage and really accelerates the drying. The other thing I’ve done is to place the closed tin in a warm window. It dries much more quickly this way than just letting them sit ambiently. Have you tried glazing with them yet? That’s where they really show their luminosity and uniqueness. May your enjoy these unique paints in many ways.
That Chinese Orange is so pretty, I might have to see if I can grab a tube next time I'm at the store! This was a fun journey, and I hope you've enjoyed these paints as much as you hoped since you made this palette.
Shell pink for me 👍
Yesss I'm still such a fan of shell pink
These seem so nice! Never tried the brand myself, I'd like to try their half pan formula someday :) I think all colors look nice. But this emerald and chinese orange look special!
Yeah they are a real treat to work with! And that chinese orange really is unlike any of the colours I already own, truly lovely.
I'm not sure where many artists are getting the idea that Roman Szmal watercolors are NOT honey-based, but they are and do contain honey. Thanks for the video. Phthalo Turquoise is my favorite.
O, I have to say I was kind of getting the honey based ibes off of the tackyness of misty morning but I have to confess I didn't dubble check. So it's very good that you are correcting that bit of misinformation in the video. Thank you! Do you usually gravitate toward the turquoise color or did Sennelier just really hit it on the head with their turquoise?
Your videos have been very helpful, especially since we can't all go out like we used to and depend on internet pirchases
Ah that's so nice to hear!! Happy to help😊
That blue between the Shell pink and the Violet (Manganese?)- gorgeous
The purple is the cobalt violet deep hue from sennelier and the color you mean is the Delft blue by Schmincke. I broke my own rule about not buying any more paint for that color haha it is just the exact perfect blue :)
@@myfantasticalimaginarium1890 Delft Blue - I'm in love! (I guess I will have to buy it although ...I shouldn't buy no more colors. But Schmincke is a german Brand, so locally for me so I'd even support the economy here 🤭). And I'm really impressed by that Cobalt Violet! Great selection of colors in that palette!!!
Started with mission gold, now I have 35 large tubes of Daniel Smith and I am done!
Hahaha yeah you have to draw the line somewhere or you keep buying more and more paint :)
Are there any yellows suitable for skies?
For sunset skies you mean? I think the 517 indian yellow would be really great for that.
Just started a gigantic mixing chart of 35 d.s. colors, to replace 2 obsolete ones! Exact color? I can do eet!
Good luck!
It looked to me like your white balance changed each time the brush appeared in frame. It's possible if you backed up the camera a wee bit it might not do that so badly? The color of the brush was so big in frame that it was making a big change.
Yeah I noticed that too Jenn, keen eye :)
I am pretty sure the Roman Szmal paints are honey based. Many came to me sticky and I had to stick them in the freezer to remove the wax paper easily. I heard you say that the one you had here was not. There are a lot more paints that are honey bases. I used to think it was just Sennelier and M. Graham, but there are others. I love your musical selection for this video. Thanks for sharing. My favorite color is blue... always blue, even my car is an ultramarine blue (ultrasonic blue mica) so the French ultramarine pb 29 followed by the greens and cobalt violet deep.
I looked it up and they indeed say they use Linden honey. Thank you for telling me! I love when youtube video's about paint have a calming effect so usually go for some chill music, happy you like it.
Purple
Yeah the purple is nice, too bad there weren't more purples :)
awww, No color descriptions while swatching … :-(
Ah I can see how that can be annoying when watching and seeing a colour you love. I did add the colors in the description. Will be mindful to add them to future videos.
