    This limited edition Roman Szmal Aquarius set has been made with Polish watercolourist Krzysztof Ludwin. Made with high-quality gum arabic and glycerin, linden honey, distilled water, and pigment. Produced in small batches that are tested for performance qualities. Range contains a selection of unique tones created exclusively by Roman Szmal. Every pan is hand filled and labelled with watercolour paper. Excellent for professionals or beginners .
    Roman Szmal is a new brand from Poland launched in 2019 Aquarius Watercolours. The paints are a honey-based range, with 140 colours. In 2020 this was extended to 165 full pan colours with an additional 25 colours. There was still a huge proportion of single pigment colours (all but 26) and some unique pigments for watercolours.
    In 2021, another 15 colours were added to the range. Every pan is wrapped in a hand painted watercolor label and the swatch card included is also hand painted and signed by the painter. This brand is known for its unusual range and high pigment load.
    Escoda versatile size 10. It's a long round brush that's semi-firm with long tapered bristles. My favourite brush: Best price on this is..

    I have their entire ( ever expanding) range of colors lol. I absolutely love these paints, every year I get their newly released colors, to add to the original 140 that I got from Roman Szmal. I actually have their entire color range in the Sennelier 100 full set wooden box. I have them with the Sennelier paints i poured into full pans, that Sennelier box is HUGE. These paints are top notch and they get their pigments from kremer, so its nice to be able to buy the same pigments they use ( if you make paints like I do ) plus you get to know where they sourced their pigments from. It's not a " top company secret recipe " type of things that large companies do, they typically hide EVERYTHING!!. I get alot of cobalt and cadmium pigments from Kremer, to make watercolor paint. I just saw your reply about finding the sticky metal tray thing to put in your new Brass palette... thats awesome you found something to make them stick in with magnets 🙂 Its much more convenient that way. Alot of the time with the Roman Szmal paints ( when you 1st get them ) They are wrapped in that wax paper inner wrapping, so the wax from the paper sticks to the top of their paints. So that's why some times it can be hard to get them started, gotta break through that wax layer lol.

      can I get a link for the 100 Wood box set? I would love that. lol I'm totally in love with this Roman Szmal set. I ordered more of their paint today. I went through to find granulating paint that came out in 2021 and 2022. and yes totally found something to use below a magnet. This way i can just add magnets to all my pans and easily switch them out. It was either that or velcro which may have been a complete fail. lol

      Woah! i had no idea they were kremer pigments. Where did you find out that? I also make paint but Kremer is not cost efficient for me. I am so interested though. Maybe i should pick up some roman szmal aha

    I love these paints so much. I purchased a lot of colors and the jane blundell palette during the Jackson's sale last week. The Ocean Blue and Misty Morning are also unique colors along with the ones you mentioned. How amazing is the Mineral Violet as well right? Really enjoyed seeing the swatches....thank you! I think I see a few colors I need to add to my collection from these. 🥰

      OMG yes. I'm glad you liked it. I thought this might have been too long but I literally watch these while i work so I don't mind them being long. haha. I love hearing about the colors and seeing what other people think. I ordered more paint today. Cobalt Sea Blue, Aquarius Cobalt Blue , Cobalt Blue Deep, Cobalt Cerulean Blue, Quinacridone Gold ... What did i miss?

    For anyone looking for ceramic mixing items at extremely low costs, look at the local Asian store. I recently purchased mixing bowls (small) and some 4 tray mixing plate like items. Thank you for this video! I just ordered 20 new Roman's off Jackson's to add to my already to many watercolor paints.

      @@JacquelineJax HI! Sorry for not being clear. I meant the flat porcelain dishes. You had a small one that you were using for mixing and a large one that was inside your Schmincke box, sitting on the Schminck porcelain palette.

      @@awatercolourist ahh. Those are square flat dishes. Like hors d’oeuvre plates that I got at a HomeGoods store. They usually have little circles that are really good that are used for washes and I bought the squares cause they fit in my studio so well. They also fit in my easel draw

    I’m not sure about the Roman Szmal paints. I got their Quin Gold, Quin Maroon, and Quin Burnt Sienna. I was not impressed. They take time to rewet, they are not strongly pigmented and they do have fillers. I tested the paint in a small container of water and found filler deposited at the bottom of the container. I’m still not sure whether I’ll buy more of them.

    • @JacquelineJax
      @JacquelineJax  Před rokem +2

      Interesting. I'm so in love with them. I guess its like anything else, we all have our favorites. What color didn't rewet? Mine are smooth, creamy and don't dry quickly. I can rewet them with a light spritz. I use Daniel smith which is hard to rewet for me, Schmincke which is amazing and lovely to work with, granulating colors do rewet slowly on al my brands thus far.. Sennelier is insanely smooth and fluid and then QOR which is so fluid and never seem to dry. lol

    • @awatercolourist
      @awatercolourist Před rokem +1

      @@JacquelineJax Thanks for your input! All of my 3 paints did not rewet easily. But I’ve noticed that you mentioned you had the same issue as well. I have a couple of M Grahams and a few van Goghs and some handmade paints that I got from Egypt. The handmade paints and the M Graham rewet very easily, the van Gogh a little less so, but they rewet better than the Roman Szmal. The most disappointing thing, though, was the use of fillers; I did not expect that from Roman Szmal 😢. It’s not as abundant as in the van Gogh paints, but then again, van Gogh is a student range and Roman Szmal are artist quality.

    • @JacquelineJax

      @@awatercolourist Which colors by Roman Szmal didn't rewet well and which colors demonstrated filler in the water. Was it sediment, granulation or cloudy water??

    • @awatercolourist
      @awatercolourist Před rokem

      @@JacquelineJax I only have three Roman Szmal paints: Quinacridone Maroon PR206, Quinacridone Burnt Sienna PO48, and Quinacridone Gold PY150/PO48. All three require some scrubbing or pre-wetting to activate them and all three showed a white sediment when left in some water. The way I test this is I fill the cap of a spray bottle (these caps are conveniently small, about the size of half my thumb) with water then I load my brush with paint and then I clean it in the water inside the cap. I then leave the cap so that all particles in the water will settle. Fillers tend to be heavy and fall to the bottom within an hour or two. Pigment particles will usually take half a day to a full day. I have a Winsor and Newton paint and two M Graham paints; none of them contained white particles.

      Ability to re-wet as well as how sticky they are (honey based paint) can be effected by whether you live in a dry or humid climate. That might be why your experience is vastly different than the others.
