    Many drivers dont carry simple tools and multiple times I have helped them because I do.
    Retractable utility knife(very small, no reason not to carry this).
    Multi bit screw driver (you can unscrew screws from tyres and its useful to have for general things)
    Small adjustable wrench.(I once re-attached someones trailer mudguard they had ripped off, with just this tool)
    Small set of pliers or a locking grip plier( I have used this also to save tyres, break seals)
    A small box that you can fill with universal bulbs for headlights and trailer lights. (untill everything switches to LED this is still useful.
    Box Tape, you can repair a slashed trailer curtain or attach a side mirror that someone has knocked off while you parked at the side of road.
    A length of rope is useful to have, its handy if you can just leave in the truck.
    Mallet. . . .you can manage with out this but if you use the same truck throw one in the tool box.
    If you struggle with closing container door latches use a short length of scaffold pipe for more leverage on the handles or improvise with the mallet.
    Other things I can think of, not mentioned in video:
    Travel mug, spare charging leads in case one fails, paracetemol, sunglasses, spare gloves: you can put a dry pair on instead of gloves you used 10 minutes ago in the rain.

    Agree with Andyb, that was a cracking list. Head torch is useful, it leaves your hands free, gaffer tape also got me home. I found a stainless steel thermos flask was useful, any hot water left over was put in it for later use . If you can get hold of an army ration pack they offer a better alternative to pot noodles due to their high nutritional value. Outdoor equipment shops and web sites offer a vast range of useful gear. All the best for Christmas.

    That's a cracking kit. I really liked your bag by the way with a pocket to have a maglite. I carry a Philips trucking atlas. Or I should say keep it in the cab as it huge blasted thing but very detailed. I always have two head torches, one in cab & one in bag. But as I say great kit - water is vital for me as my old girl overheated a few weeks back due to a leak rad pipe. Gaffer tape & water got me home 😀😉

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  Před 6 lety

      +Andyb2379 yep I had a blown intercooler last week that was drinking water like it was going out of fashion, you can never carry too much water. Very interesting video, Kev.
    Only one thing to add, and it’s something I heard from a Canadian. Always chuck a couple of tea lights in your car/truck. The heat generated from a tea light can keep you warm in a confined space for hours at a time.

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  Před 6 lety

    • @19thewanderer
      @19thewanderer Před 4 lety +2

      Tea lights are dangerous in a confined space, they will soon burn off all the oxygen in your cab. When I was trucking many years ago, a young driver lit his camping stove and fell asleep, Police found him dead the next day.
      Also a candle burns carbon molecules. If you sleep with a burning candle in a closed cab, it will have limited amount of oxygen. The Candle will continuously consume oxygen and convert it into carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Slowly the amount of carbon dioxide and monoxide will start increasing in the cab. You will start inhaling air having high percentage of carbon gases. It can also lead to death, because they are poisonous.

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes you highlight a very good point regarding naked flames in a confined space. Always good to maintain ventilation and never fall asleep without extinguishing first.

    I know it's older video, but taking some "emergency" food is smart no matter. I know here in the States, you could get stuck at a shipper / receiver most of the day. Or stuck out on the road behind an accident, and having something to eat so you're not starving. Even seen others asking truckers if they have any food or water, for elderly people. They might need to take it with medication, or they are getting low blood sugar. I like the tuna / chicken salad snack packs, not as bad on the salt levels. Compared to a lot of the soups and noodle cups.

    We'll have to start calling you "MacGyver the truckie"! Took me a bit to work out "HGV". That, "Lorry" and "Artic" are foreign terms to an Aussie! I wish you Poms would speak English!!! Haha.
    At my work (not in the trucking industry), we call maglights "Yoube sticks"......You be f*cked if we hit you with one!
    Loving the videos, by the way. My stepson does long distance trucking. Brisbane to Sydney (900 km) and Brisbane to Townsville (1450km). He drives a rigid though, not a semi (feel free to use google translate for Aussie to British words!!!)

    All that tea, coffee, pot noodles and super noodles and 1 bottle of water! How about a survival blanket and some Kendal Mint Cake. A multi tool and maybe a road map would be useful. Lighter fuel if you’re broken down out in the middle of nowhere and your gas runs out or you have no power you could take a phone battery booster, charge it up at home through usb then plug into your phone to charge up the battery if needed.

    It won't be long before truckers start taking a portable solar panel for eg if it was to snow heavy and no power in truck a solar panel would charge phone etc and there are solar showers than can be heated naturally and portable toilets are common in the states now and it won't be long before truckers start using them over here
    But as truckers are starting to take drones with them in cab etc they will soon be able to send their drone to a local shop to get groceries alternatively could be good to get amazon prime so that a trucker that knows where they will be parked up for the next 2 hours etc could even order amazon fresh (groceries) to be delivered to the gatehouse of the drop they are on the way to and or a deliveroo takeaway to be delivered to truck
    Technology is making all this possible it only needs a few truckers to experiment such ideas to see if it's possible etc and comment on time ordered and time food arrived etc
    And you can get a portable solar panel and a portable toilet for truck for about the same price as a good truck satnav etc

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  Před 6 lety +1

      +numberplate guy great comment mate, solar panel isn't a bad shout, I already have a solar power bank that works very well.

      Exactly
      The uk is miles behind the truckers in the states
      They have the lot
      A good youtuber to watch for solar ideas is a youtuber called
      Will prowse
      He know a thing or two about solar and what it could run etc
      It won't be long before uk haulage companies put 8000w of solar on the trailer roof per fridge trailer so it can use stored solar to run the fridge when on daily rest etc
      If all trailers had solar panels on all of the roof eg 30? Solar panels etc
      The trailer could run the truck via solar instead of the truck running the trailer etc

    The only thing that you might want to add is a small amount of extra cash - just in case you empty your wallet or leave it in the car. It's better to have too much money on you than not enough.
