I remember my first week tramping, I took too much and not enough. I've got what I need to rock up to the rig with on Monday down to an art now though.
Done day work for 7 years and I start tramping on the 31st July because I've always fancied giving it a go. Nervous but also excited about getting my own truck and making it a proper home away from home.
Love your honesty, someone like me looking at this world it is really helpful to see the vlogs from current truck drivers 👍

Hey Billy just found your channel, good work my friend . Myself, I am over 20 years experienced HGV class 1 driver. Please, never ever forget to take your time, take as long as you like to be safe . Look after other road users and take care of your kit .Don't get cocky no matter how experienced you get and keep a clean licence. Good luck my friend.

Well done Billy keep it up, I done the skills boot camp also, got a shunter job with the company I worked in warehouse 10 years for. Been doing it 2 months now and enjoying it. Go out on the road sometimes. Like you say it's not easy in the beginning but practice, practice, practice hey. Well done on completing your 1st week tramping.

Just found your channel mate ,I've only had my class 1 for 6 weeks now and it's very daunting going into driving full time as I was in my previous job for 30yr but hopefully I'll get there lol . Ps good luck mate and hope it works out for us both 😂😂😂.

Only just come across your channel looks a good watch so far. You asked were you were at about 14:30 into the video, I'm guessing you'd just come off or crossed the M20 and heading up the hill on the A249 towards Sittingbourne. I've stopped on that stretch of the road before and it was a sod to get going again as was fairly heavy at the time.
Good job you done a u turn or even got the chance to do a u turn before low bridge ahead. You could easily get stuck to turn around if it was a narrow road and mounting traffic behind you.
On the road heading either into Gloucestershire
So you're in the truck driving all day then when you finish you stay in the truck all night?
So you pay for a house or apartment you don't live in? Or just live in the lorry?

Tramping aint for everyone as they say its a way of life is Tramping
Intrigued by this Billy its something iv always fancied doing but im not sure if the arse has fell out of the industry with the influx of new drivers at the moment? what sort of pay are you getting for tramping for instance? what hours in the day are you doing? - currently work in construction doing steel fixing i earn around £20/£22 an hour leave the house at 6am start work 7.30am to 5pm have two 30 minute breaks (one unpaid) and then get home about 6-6.30pm depending on traffic so out of the house for 12-13 hours a day and get paid for 9 hours, its self employed so no PAYE such as holidays or bank holiday pay etc although you do get a tax rebate in april each year which amounts to around £3500. Im 37 now and im wondering if its time to have a change, work outdoors so you get soaked during winter or freezing cold and in summer you roast alive in the heat and its HARD graft carrying heavy steel about all day back bent etc absolutely cream crackered at the end of the day/week.
I’m class 2, been tramping for 8 years. I get £30 per night tax free, it adds up, but I’m on salary so there’s no overtime payments. Some days I do 12-13hrs, others 8. It depends on where abouts I am. You’ve got to enjoy your own company, and on my job I can go a full week without speaking to anybody in person. I would also say, get away from the truck if you can on a night. I’m lucky, I have a bike to ride and also walk/run, so in a way it suits my life. The company I work for are a great company, who never question my judgement or the order I do my work in. I’ve found that the company you work for makes a massive difference to your life. I worked at a place before where they tracked you all the time, and rang you if you went ‘off route’. I’m probably in a minority of actually not minding my job. Good luck for the future.
I'm about to go for my licence and was looking to get into this. Is there any advise you could give me before I embark on my venture...should I get experience on day work first or ?? Any advise would be appreciated
Keep watching the videos buddy. But small advice would be, have an open mindset to the Jobs and just keep your head down 👍
Is 8/900 a week after tax achievable whilst tramping? Thinking of getting my class 1. Any advice would be brill, cheers mate
It is possible. You would need to put the hours in, and possibly look into tramping. But I guess it depends on the line of work you do and who you work for 👍
@@billyhgvuk Thanks for the reply Billy I’m 26 with no home commitments looking at jumping straight from my car license to class 1. I hear tramping is where the bigger money is. All the best mate
What's the pay like? I'm beginning the process of getting my C1 license
Pay all depends on the work you do, and who you work for. I can only give you a rough idea. It’s around £15 - 20 per hour. But like I say. It depends on where you live, company pay different rates and line of work. Hope that helps :)

Good luck but it's not worth the money you can't buy back time and you spend alot of time away from family and friends it's not a good life
